    The Mediterranean Nachos

I asked the people around me where should I eat for lunch and I was told to come here - Crest Cafe. I thought it would be packed coz it was lunchtime, but it was surprisingly not crowded at all. Being my first time there, I then had time to look at the menu. I ordered the Mediterranean Nachos, but because I don't eat meat, I asked for the chicken on the side (to which I could later give it to my dog). I also ordered a can soda. When I got back to work, I got the pita chips in one box, and then the "topping" on the side, to which I thought that was thoughtful so that my chips would not get soggy - but after taking my first bite, that assumption was incorrect. In my eyes, I believe it was incorrect because what they read as "chicken on the side" it was read as everything on the side. As when I took the first bite, I got chicken in my mouth. Because I could not eat chicken, I spit it out once I realized what it was. I tried to wash and cleanse my palate with the (supposed cold) soda I had also ordered, but that was also a fail as the soda was warm. A total waste of 25 dollars.

    Garlic Chicken Wrap

I come here all the time during the week for lunch and it NEVER disappoints. They have a variety of entrees to choose from but my go to is the garlic chicken wrap. It comes with lettuce and tomato, but I add red cabbage, cucumbers and onions which is no charge. They also have various side sauces and I love their jalapeño and garlic's sauces. They are full of flavor and taste so good with the wrap. Though the wrap is around $16 with tax, it's worth it! It's a good size, taste delicious and always well prepared! Also, the service is great! Very friendly and quick! They get busy but are well organized and you never have to wait too long.

First tried their downtown location years ago but since the hours there are very limited I have made Crest Cafe in Elk Grove my to go spot for whenever I want a quiet time alone with some amazing food. Crest cafe is very unique to the point that I came here straight off of a flight from Paris because I missed it so much. I can say for certain this place is in my top 5 restaurants in the world. I don't see why people aren't lining out the door for this amazing food and ambiance. Impeccable! Pictured are some of my favorites that I reorder again and again.

Crest Cafe is a fan favorite among my coworkers so I finally got the chance to try it Thursday! I ordered the Pita and added lamb gyro and added onion, cucumber, and the garlic aioli and tzatziki on the side. When I opened it, I was very impressed by the size! The meat was delicious and very flavorful. For the price, very worth it! I do wish the gyro pieces were a little smaller to make it easier to eat in a wrap, but overall, very good and I'll be returning!

    Falafel tacos with sauce
    Monica L.

I came into this place for the first time during lunch. I had some catering at an event prior to coming here which included the falafel taco. I fell in love! It is a vegetarian dish, but so yummy! I also added the lunch buffet, which was more than enough for me, but I was not disappointed in the flavor at all. I had the veggie samosa and **kisses fingertips** perfectly hot and goes well with the green sauce in the photo. The butter chicken ,or whatever that was , had so much flavor and I loved it all! I would most definitely come back. I over ordered, because I thought I was ordering one taco, but it is really 3 per order. I don't know how to read yikes! The service is quick, and the location is pretty neat also. It is on k st. so plan your parking accordingly as the roads are sometimes closed off during events or at night!

This is my favorite place to go for lunch on a work day. They have very limited hours so I'm lucky I work nearby but they do have a location (with more hours I believe) in Elk Grove too. My favorite thing to eat here is the chicken shawarma tacos but all of the wraps and other tacos are delicious as well. I highly recommend trying this place if you are able to and getting chicken shawarma in some form. This place is kept clean and nice inside but it can get pretty crowded during lunch.

    Gyro pita

This is the highlight of having jury duty. I alternate between the awesome Mediterranean Nachos and the gyro. Today I went with the lamb gyro in a traditional pita. The meat was seasoned perfectly and there was plenty of it. I really enjoyed how tender it was. One thing I thought was really cool was that the lettuce and tomato was under the meat. This had the effect of keeping the produce in place and not falling all over the place. Truly a little thing, it shows they care. They had nice little tables outside. Great day to be outside and soak in the sun. The indoor area was nice and clean. Not too noisy either. I got dismissed from jury duty so it will be another few years before I get to go back. I don't usually go to downtown.

I wasn't very impressed. Food was only ok and spendy. The restaurant was clean and service was totally fine, but I found it to be very mediocre.

Samoon is an Iraqi white yeast bread shaped like a diamond or a canoe. The origin is likely from Georgia then brought to Iraq by Armenians immigrants. The first baker to make this bread in Iraq was named Simon, which translates to Samoon in Arabic. My CHICKEN KABOB SANDWICH on Samoon bread with house garlic sauce was so delicious! You have your choice of garlic sauce or tahini sauce, but Hameed told me that the garlic sauce culturally pairs with the Samoon and the tahini sauce with the Pita. You also have your choice of toppings: lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, and pickles. I think the yummy default is to order everything, but I said all but the onion. Wow, who knew that dicing cucumber elevates it to a new level of taste and texture! I mistook it for zucchini. I am all eager to order or make Jerusalem Salad or Israeli Salad now, a salad prepped with those same toppings, except the lettuce. Restaurant is uncomfortably warm with the bread oven, but nothing beats eating food freshly baked and prepared, so I decided to eat my sandwich there. There are just a few tables inside. No outdoor dining. Most people order to go. The savory PIES come in two shapes: a large round and a smaller diamond or canoe shape. Given I have been dreaming of Georgian cheese bread, Adjaruli Khachapuri, for years, I opted for the boat shape and got one MEAT PIE and one CHEESE PIE. The meat was spiced. I heated each in the toaster oven for a few minutes. Fun to eat! Very reasonably priced. I googled the Middle Eastern word for hand pies: Fatayer. The dolmas were also fun and convenient to eat. 10 in a box. Dolmas are marinated grape leaves stuffed with a seasoned rice and rolled into little cigars. Restaurant offers 2 juices made in house: 1. Freshly squeezed OJ that was bright orange in color 2. Fruit punch made with grape juice and black carrot juice Restaurant offers 3 kinds of baklava for dessert! 1. Walnut Baklava 2. Pistachio Baklava 3. Bird Nest Baklava (Arabic: Osh El Bulbul) At home, I enjoyed my Samoon with BABA GHANOUSH and hummus from Mediterranean Bakery. Baba Ghanoush seemed more special to me than the hummus. I did appreciate that the hummus came garnished with a few chickpeas. I also ordered a 1/2 pound of beef shawarma to go. It needed 20 minutes to finish grilling on the rotisserie, so I explored Alibaba International Foods market and the Kind Bean Cafe & Ethiopian Cuisine restaurant in the same plaza. Beef shawarma is marinated in a spiced paste. Lacking all the fresh vegetable toppings, I couldn't assemble as delectable a sandwich at home. If I can tear myself away from the chicken kabob sandwich (kabab, kebab, kebob), I'd be interested in trying the other meat sandwiches: beef kabob, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, chicken shawarma, and beef shawarma. I'd also try salads: Mediterranean Salad, Greek Salad, or Beyrotiya Salad (chickpeas, tomatoes, and cucumbers in olive oil, garlic, cumin, and lemon juice). I procrastinated too long writing this review, so my memory may be failing me. The co-owners of the restaurant are all from the Mediterranean area: Sudan, Lebanon, and Iraq, I believe. Thanks to Hameed for your kind hospitality and food preparation. I'll be back for the Samoon and sandwiches!
