This is a Mediterranean style cuisine restaurant that enjoys being on K St. This is a frequented restaurant for me working in downtown for over 3 yrs now. Gets pretty busy during the Lunch hours all weekdays. The service is prompt and delivery can take over 15-20 mins based on the rush. Otherwise there is a bring-to-the-table service as well. I always enjoyed chicken sumac at cafe Morocco and was so disappointed when they closed down earlier this year. Crest cafe is a decent alternative as theirs is just as tasty. Nicely spiced and tender. The one thing they could do to improve is to switch out their pita to something less packaged. It's the equivalent to wonder bread as opposed to one that is more artisan. Serving a nice warm homemade like pita would elevate their dishes very nicely. One major fail was the hummus. It was so flat and lacking in flavor. It tastes like just puréed chickpeas without any depth of spices. Otherwise, I like coming down to this part of town and seeing the variety of restaurants. I simply don't know any other way to say this, but I think I'm in love ya'll for reals! When Covid-19 hit Sacramento, it tossed downtown side to side and turned it upside down: downtown Sacramento became a food desert. It was very difficult to find a place that was serving food for miles. When Covid-19 started clearing up, places to grab a bite to eat started opening up too. If Covid reminded me of anything, healthy eating was definitely at the top of my mind! The challenge was finding places that offers healthy food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere downtown Sacramento was be a bit challenging. I had a very nice outdoor lunch with a friend at Crest Cafe that was flavorful and moderately priced. 3.5 stars, I can't identify anything specific I didn't like, but it isn't really spectacular. The decor is basic and a bit tired, but the kitchen is open and looked clean. The counter service was easy with a large menu up front. There is lots of seating, including outside under the trees, which is where I sat with my friend. The staff were friendly and very responsive. I had the garlic chicken plate which came with rice, greek salad and a yogurt sauce. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked, with a crisp sear and lots of flavor. It stunk up my fridge as leftovers though so I had to toss it pretty quick. The rice was fluffy and also had a good amount of flavor that I wasn't expecting. It was a good deal at $12. My friend had the salad and rice and had a 3-star experience. She suggested the Crest Cafe. Since I'm always willing to try a place new to me, I let her win (plus the "she" here is my boss) What an exciting menu greeted me. I love Mediterranean food. I had the Chicken Sumac platter (now that's something you don't find every day) For only $6.99 I had a generous serving of grilled chicken covered with caramelized onions, seasoned with sumac. It was served with garlic sauce on the side, a small container of hummus, two halves of pita and fetoush salad (romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber with a vinaigrette) Everything was very tasty. My boss had the Lamb Gyros Ceasar Wrap. It was humongous and great value at only $6.99. We both left with laden to-go boxes after eating our fill. Came here with my coworkers for a birthday lunch on a Thursday. Expect lunchtime to be busy, of course. However it's nice that they do reservations, so we had tables ready for us. The menu has a lot of good options. They also have a lunchtime buffet which isn't noted anywhere. So I guess not many people know about it. I was hoping to do the lunch buffet, but when I walked over, there wasn't much. Maybe 2 entrees, small salad bar? I ended up getting a chicken kabob pita wrap and it was a bit disappointing. Just pita, lettuce and a few cubes of meat. I had to eat it with the sauce it came with just give it some taste. After seeing the buffet bar getting more items added, it made me regret spending $13 on a small plate of nothing and a soda. Could of spent the same for the buffet instead :( read more

I want to start out by saying that I am a pretty reasonable person and I understand that shit happens sometimes. But Crest Cafe has been by far one of the worst experiences in a restaurant. I have come here a total of 3 times and each time it has proceeded to get worse. The place is always packed during peak hours and even though it is packed they still get orders out rather quickly. The first time I visited here I had an average experience, I came, ordered to-go, and left. I ordered the garlic chicken plate. The portion was huge and the chicken wasn't dry. It came with both salad and rice which was nice and overall I was pretty satisfied. The second time I came I ordered to-go on the Eat24 app during my lunch hour. I ordered the Beef Shawarma Pita. I walked about 10 minutes from work and when I got there it was ready to go. But when I got back to work and opened my container there was grease all over the bottom. It even soaked through my pita. It tasted so greasy from being soaked for like 20+ minutes that I literally threw out the pita and just ate the beef and veggies. The beef was well seasoned and there was a good amount of veggies in it. The third time, all I wanted was a Beef Shawarma wrap. I finished my workout and ordered on the Eat 24 App once again. Since the gym was right across the street I figured that even if there was grease at the bottom it wouldn't be too bad because I would be there when it was done and could wipe it off or something. The front doors were locked and they had already begun cleaning, since it was close to closing time. I knocked and the waitress let me in and asked if I ordered to-go, I said yes, she handed me my order and I left. I got home 30 minutes later and received a call from them saying that my order was ready. I was slightly confused since I already picked it up, so I opened the container and saw that it was the wrong order. I told her it's fine these things happen, can I get my money back since I'm not even going to eat this. She told me that I would have to bring it back to the restaurant because of something about the manager. So I drove all the way from West Sac, paid and parked, to bring it back. When I got there she proceeded to tell me how this happened, because they have contracts with 4 different pick-up apps, and that they have lost money on 4 orders because of this. I apologized to her that she lost money and told her that maybe the staff could make sure that the staff should verify a customer's order when picking it up just to make sure it's correct. She told me that I could either get my money back or the wrap. I was appalled, I drove all the way back and you can't give me my correct order and my money back for the inconvenience? She literally threw my Beef Shawarma Wrap away and gave me back my money. Honestly, one of the worst customer service experiences of my entire life. I understand that maybe she was following protocol or something but it seems that the owners only care about the profit and not actually about their customers. i just didn't really appreciate how the whole thing was handled. Before the pandemic, I would go here about once or twice a month. I especially love their Mediterranean fries and falafel wraps. I was honestly disappointed that they switched from Coke to Pepsi in their soda fountain, but that's honestly the only thing I can complain about. Since the pandemic, I still go here regularly. Ordering online is easy through their website or GrubHub. They usually have my order ready, and portions haven't really changed at all. Really like this place! I recommend the SOUVLAKI GREEK SALAD! I don't eat meat very often but I really enjoy and prefer the souvlaki Greek salad over the chicken Greek salad, although both are delicious. They cook the souvlaki PERFECTLY and slightly crispy which I think makes it the best. The staff are very soft spoken and very polite. The greens taste very fresh and clean. I will recommend Crest Cafe over Petra Greek any day! The only thing is, make sure to call first and see if they are open. Crest Cafe is located in the heart of downtown, next to K Bar, District 30 & walking distance from the Golden1 arena. Plenty of parking available on the streets or pay $1.50/30min at the parking garage. The restaurant has a modern Middle East look to it. They have outside patio seating and plenty of inside seating. The service is slow. One guy taking your order (you order at the register) and one cook. Our food took 45 minutes and the restaurant wasn't even busy. I love fresh, right off the stove food, but 45 minutes is a little excessive for 3 wraps, Mediterranean Nachos and Chicken Kabob plate. If they had another cook, I don't think it would have taken that long. The food - The Mediterranean Nachos I highly recommend here. It was delicious! I loved the crunchy chips (deep fried pita bread), with garlic chicken and perfect amount of dressing. The chicken kabob plate comes with rice and salad, the chicken was moist and rich in flavor but the rice was a little on the bland side and needed salt. We got the beef wrap, lamb wrap and garlic chicken wrap. The wraps were good but some sort of hot sauce would have made it taste better. The total was a little over $55 with two fountain drinks which is a great deal especially since we had so much left over food and portions are very filling. There aren't many Middle Eastern restaurants in Downtown Sacramento, so if I am in the area and have a craving for Mediterranean food, I will definitely be back. read more

The Crest Café is just OK. After visiting this busy place during lunch a few times my thoughts are; they have some good flavors but customer service and the size of the dishes are hit or miss. A month ago I was doing the "no carb" diet pretty hard so my treat to myself was a wrap at the Crest. I ran on over dreaming of the large wonderful looking wraps I had seen on yelp but when I opened my box I was pretty disappointed and was able to consume the whole thing! I saw Clay's picture, I read his review. . .why was I able to eat the whole thing, and it is very unlike me to finish my meals. . .ARGH! I will say the Garlic chicken was pretty tasty and moist. Onto today's visit, back to doing no carbs I settled on the Crest Greek Salad with added garlic chicken. Maybe I should begin opening the boxes at the restaurant but they gave me one salad dressing which was not even full. He really wanted to 1. make sure we were ordering something before I could use the bathroom and 2. wanted us to finish eating soon as they were closing soon. How much olive oil is too much to pour all over a plate of food? Crest Cafe seems on a mission to discover the upper limit. I ordered a combo. The falafel was very nice, dolmas also good, I think the baba ganoush and hummus were ok but they floated about a half a cup of olive oil over it so it was mostly a pool of oil. I tried to spoon off as much as I could but as you spoon it off it also sinks in. At first I couldn't believe it was actually oil. I had to taste it.
