A very impressive amount of draft beer on tap. The menu choices went far beyond typical bar fare. My husband enjoyed Greek chicken skewers and I got the honey mustard grilled chicken sandwich. Only negative is that the sandwich doesn't come with any side, and the waitress made it seem like it did. I was asked if I wanted fries, sweet potato fries or a mix, then at the end of the meal charged extra for my "side". Need to be more clear on that! read more

We came for dinner early on a Saturday night- it was pretty slow when we came in. We were sat right away by a host who seemed pretty lost. Our table was behind the soda fountain which was fine. Not one staff member approached us for nearly 15 minutes which would have been okay if it was busy, but absurd for how slow it was. Not only did our server not stop at our table, he walked by 3 or 4 times. After going to the host and asking for our server, we were finally greeted and given drinks. We ordered food and the waiter had given us the smaller order of fries (to split between two people which I said when I ordered). He corrected the order after ignoring us for about 15 mins. And comped the smaller order. We waited another 25 mins for the correct fries. Food was great but the service was a bit shotty. Maybe we will have more luck next time. read more

I only spend time in Waco when I'm getting paid to be there, so I'm not savvy to the restaurant scene. I picked Cricket's based solely on proximity and a desire for American food. I was lucky to get there between mealtimes so it wasn't too busy, but I can imagine the parking situation being a nightmare during peak hours. My server was nice and I was excited to see gluten-free buns on offer, but I wasn't in the mood for a burger, so I asked if I could get the club sandwich on the GF bun. The answer was yes, which turned out to be a really bad idea, on two fronts. First, it wasn't toasted like it would have been on bread, so the cheese was just cold and gross. Second, it added a whopping $2 to my already $12 sandwich. With NO sides. Yowza. I could have been on board with a $12 sandwich if it was made with fresh ingredients, but the turkey and ham on this sandwich were both from a loaf, like Oscar Meyer-style. This is a $6.50 item, tops. I was really in the mood for fries so I ordered some, which were pretty good, not spectacular, and really should be included with the price of the sandwiches. SO I walked out paying $22 for a sad-ass meal. I can't recommend this place based on my experience, but they might have good burgers. Maybe I'll give them a try next time I'm in town. read more

The food was a bit cold and the service was sub par. I joined the table after my friends and was never offered a drink. The server is didn't seem too informed or helpful when it came to ordering. My order came out wrong and let him know it was sirracha mayo instead of regular, then he argued with me it was although it was not white. Located right across from the Hilton my family was staying at, we decided to give Crickets a try. The beer selection was very good and the onion rings were great! However the main courses were disappointing. I had the chicken fried rice and the rice was not fully cooked. My mother had the brisket quesadilla, which was ok but had only a tiny amount of brisket on it. The other food items were sub par as well. Also, they don't have a changing table in the men's bathroom which is a huge inconvenience for our family. I wouldn't mind coming here for a beer, but would not recommend the dining as they are better options in the area. read more

Food is very average. Greasy, bar food, nothing unique here. Wait staff ranges from outstanding to total losers. Once had to go to the bar to ask for another beer as I walked past my waiter sitting in a booth texting. The place was practically empty no less. Bartenders are usually pretty cool, although not that knowledgeable about all the beers they sell. Which leads me to my next point.... Too many beers! Many of the sit there way too long. The beers don't taste like the lines are cleaned frequently, if at all. They would do better to cut the list by half, keep them rotating, and offer more new stuff each week. Staff turnover is high relative to others, (e.g., Dancing Bear, Barnett's). Go there if you want to play pool, drink bud and eat an average burger. Go to Dancing Bear or Barnett's if your are serious about craft beer. read more

Been here before. Satisfied then, satisfied now. Had a beer with the Fish N Chips basket. What's not to like! The server was quite pleasant and efficient. The place is quaint but huge. I recently visited Cricket's and was told that it would be a 25 min. wait for dinner but I could go to the Bar. Sat at the bar for 15 min. and was walk past by at least 7 employees. Not one ask if I could be helped. A bartender by the name of Rebecca walk past three times, acted pissed at the world but never once offered asked to see what I might want. Needless to say, I did not stay to hopefully be seated for dinner. No telling how long I would have been ignored on the restaurant side. How does this place stay in business!! JThey used to have some good weekly specials but the last time I went, they said they were in the process of "reviewing" them and stopped all specials...didn't make sense to me why they can't do both simultaneously. Its a good place that could be a great place. I loved the over 30 Texas based craft brews on tap. The location is great and has easy parking and is very accessible. The shuffleboard and darts and life size jenga are a very good diversion and a wonderful away to spend an evening. The food and the service are the unfortunate outliers here. Service wise there were three places where I just got the wrong vibe. First if you bill yourself as a craft brew house with 100 beers on tap, your waitstaff should know what a Saison is. They should know beer styles. I actually had to use my phone to investigate the local beers to know what to try because the menu wasn't a whole lot of help here either. Second when the "world famous cheddar fries" arrived I asked what made them world famous and was told "Nothing" as the waitress dropped them and walked away. Lastly we couldnt find our waitress to get our check for about 25 minutes. As for the food, don't get me wrong it is good but it could be so much better. I got the brisket grilled grilled cheese and while tasty it needed a little something to brighten the flavor. It was very muted. A chipoltle BBQ would have worked wonders. Dont get sucked in the cheddar fries are simply cheddar fries and nothing special at all. We would go back just a bit more on the patient side and would really look at the menu better. We stopped here for lunch our way back to Dallas from Corpus Christi at my son's suggestion - he had been here once before & remembered the awesome food. The menu has a nice variety - salads, tex-mex, burgers and sandwiches. We still had some driving to do, so we stayed away from beer selection. The boys played pool while we waited for our food - it was the perfect distraction after being couped up in the truck for 4 hours. We got a Kitchen sink burger, a Peanut Butter & Bacon burger and I was boring with the Mushroom & Swiss burger and a basket of fries. The burgers were amazing - the flavors, seasonings, toppings were all just perfect. I've been on a quest to find the best burger in Dallas & if Crickets opened a location in Dallas, it would win hands down! The fries were great & the Chocolate fudge cake was sinfully delicious, but the burgers are what we'll go back for. I can't wait to get to Waco again! read more

We stumbled upon this place as we were driving around after Baylor Move in Day and we weren't disappointed. The staff was friendly and our waitress was extremely nice. We ordered fish and chips, the brisket grilled cheese sandwich and the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings. Everything was delicious. Extra points for refilling our drinks before they were empty. I'm sure we'll be back because there were several items on the menu that I want to try. Went here to watch a Football Game, despite numerous TV's all tuned to same game I was told they do NOT get SEC network. So don't go here because you think it's a sport bar. Plus they had no sound on the games they were playing. Really don't like Sport bar themes that don't cater to sports fan! So you could go here for the food- we ordered the Nacho's and the Humus. Humus was adequate the Nacho's were a handful of chips on a plate with underwhelmed portion of cheese melted. Since I'm trying to watch my portions it serves me just right, but in today's world of over sized portions one might be disappointed. My wife ordered an Octoberfest type of beer and about half way through the Nacho's were informed they were out of that particular beer. End of the story, great location, good college town vibe and more beer selection than you could ever try. Just don't go there to watch a game and expect big portions. read more

crickets is one of those institutions in Waco that people take for granted but also always come back to. I've spent many nights here getting hammered with friends, and it's usually a great time. their drinks are the definition of cheap and crappy, but if you want your cocktails fancy and "craft" then take your butt down the road to Dichotomy and enjoy your exponentially higher bar tab. the food here is actually above-average and really delicious for the type of establishment it is, but it's also really overpriced. I guess the theme of this review (and rating) is one giant backhanded compliment. my head says 3 stars, and that's what you care about, but my heart says 4 1/2. read more
