No complaints. Today was my first trip to Croutons. I found out about the place by searching for salad spots near my new office here on Yelp. Trying to eat healthier always seems to lead to very few options when eating out. I got 1/2 Albacore Tuna Salad Flatini and a small Croutons Salad. When it comes to a quick soup/salad/sandwich place I really can't think of a place that does it better...even Panera or Corner Bakery. And did I mention today is Tuesday - free brownie Tuesday, actually! Ok, so that doesn't fit in with the eating healthier but it's the size of a mini muffin and super gooey. I had the Frank's Spinach salad which was delicious with fresh sweet strawberries, real crispy bacon bits, feta cheese, red onions, cornbread croutons and their poppy seed vinaigrette. Talk about fresh and filling! I got the "regular" size salad ($7.50), which was way more than I can handle and my friend got the smaller portion ($6.30), which was perfect for a lunch meal (I however get to take some home with me for a late snack = Thumbs way up). But their fresh soup of the day, cream of artichoke, IS TO DIE FOR! I'm licking the cup as I type and trying to savor each moment. It's fresh ingredients, light and packed with artichoke flavor and bits of the artichoke hearts. I wish they had this everyday. I go here for lunch almost 2-3 times a week for their salad and panini combos. Their salads are consistently fresh and crisp. Urban plates is pretty good as well, but I think croutons is more simple and executed a little better. Staff is always friendly and it's very quick and cheap. If your looking for a good salad, look no further. read more

I had a late lunch today with my friend Amanda who suggested this place. It's nice, clean and small. Thankfully there is plenty of seating outside. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. I ordered the combo sandwich/salad of Turkey Artichoke Flatini and Napa Valley Salad. Both were good. The ingredients all seemed to be fresh and they were light on the dressing for my salad which I liked. (I hate when my salad gets drenched in dressing.). Plus both items came out quickly. I also liked how large the cup was for water. (Sometimes when you order water at places, they give you a tiny cup that you have to refill multiple times.) I am a fan of Croutons. Their Vegetarian Panini and tomato basil soup are both incredible. The tomato basil is also surprisingly healthy. Check out their interactive nutrition guide I just wish they had healthier bread choices, because the focaccia bread is not the healthiest choice. I should probably just order the salad, but I am in love. The staff is wonderful. They move so quickly and offer the best customer service. I convinced my office to add Croutons to our catering rotation and all of the meeting goers seem happy about this change .I would like it if they got some kale and quinoa to the menu. I come here at least 3 times a month for lunch, it's THAT good!!! The ingredients are fresh, the service is friendly and speedy, and the food is delicious. That's a recipe for the perfect work day lunch!!! My menu favorites are: Mediterranean salad, Napa salad, southwest chicken salad, turkey and artichoke paninni, and I always order the tomato basil soup. I've never been disappointed with the food!!! I have been here once before and had the same experience. The first time I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt because they were really busy and it was at the peak of the lunch hour. Today I thought, I'll give this place another shot because after all, salads are my favorite thing to eat for lunch and I have been craving a god one. It was still very busy as I walked in but still the line moved swiftly and the food was being cranked out. I order something different this time and patiently wait the short while until I had the bag in my hand walking out the door. The place is nice and well-kept even during a lunch rush. Once again I open the plastic box that contains my salad and it looks yummy (just like last time), but as I take a closer look it looks a bit overdressed and all the toppings seem to be just on the top and not mixed in the salad like I asked. I think, no big deal I'll just mix it a bit more and it'll be fine. I take a bite, and another, and another and not only is the salad a bit overdressed, but the lettuce tastes like it's been sitting out a while and has lost it's crisp. Kind of like when you eat the salad at a restaurant and want to take rest home but when you go to eat it later it's all soggy. I'm immediately disappointed because when you get your hopes up for something and it falls flat, I feel like I wasted money on something I could have made (badly) myself at home. After this, I would not come back or recommend this place because while I let the first time slide, the second time should have been on point and changed my mind. It's a real bummer too because I have been waiting for a good salad joint to open near my work. I really hope they pay more attention to detail and not let their quality suffer just to get more $$$ through the door. I am regular here because I work a mile down the road. If you are looking for a healthy sandwich, soup, or salad joint this is the place. My favorite is the panini, particularly the chicken pesto or southwestern. You can grab a combination of a soup, salad or sandwich, soup or salad, sandwich. And top it off with one of their brownies. It may look crowded when you are there for lunch but I always find a spot to sit inside or outside. I always bring my co-workers here and am not afraid to make a destination for business meetings. As far as service, this place is on point. Their staff is quick at the registers and hardly ever get an order wrong. The food is always consistent and I rarely wait more than 7 or 8 minutes for my food. If you sit outside they will bring the food out to your table and often times they will give a free brownie to their customers. Now you see why I am regular here. Oh and their chicken with wild rice soup is killer. Only challenge at times can be finding a parking spot at the busy lunch hour but I don't fault them for that. read more

In an industrial food court right near John Wayne, Croutons is my healthy Oasis surrounded by a Flame Broiler, Taco Factory, a Carl's Jr., and a MacDonald's on the other side of Main. Some may baulk at their higher price with most meal options ranging in the $8-$11 area. I prefer paying a little extra for less-processed food that doesn't make me feel like a greasy blob by 2pm. It's very easy to leave feeling full and satisfied. I would recommend any of their salads but if you need to order something warm, I recommend their paninis and a cup of delicious soup. read more

I happen to stumble upon their soft opening during my lunch break and was offered their 50% off promotion. This place looks fresh and really clean cut. I was quite pleased with their vast healthy salad options and a variety of fancy sandwiches. But to pick one I settled on the Margherita Chicken specialty sandwich. It is an oven roasted chicken breast with fresh basil, sun dried tomato, provolone cheese, basil pesto mayonnaise. The chicken was very tenderly moist and every slice looked like it came from a perfect cut of chicken breast. The sandwich was top notch in flavor and the meat they use is definitely Boar's Head. I also ordered a cup of their chicken and wild rice soup that turned out to be very rich and creamy. It was a warm and hearty thick chowder. This place is fantastic. The employees are incredibly hard working. Coming from the food and service industry, it's hard to stay energized and accurate during lunch rushes, but these guys just keep going, and with a smile too! Not sure why this place only has 4 stars, maybe because of the prices? I'd say it's reasonable. 11 bucks for a sandwich and nice sized salad. The portions are larger than you'd expect, and the quality is amazing! I've been here a few times now and tend to enjoy it. This last time they got my order wrong -- I ordered the barbecue chicken flatini and they gave me the buffalo chicken flatini, but I wanted to try the buffalo chicken anyway so I didn't really care. But then I started eating it and remembered that I'd had it before and didn't like it much. White meat chicken with buffalo sauce is just wrong to me. It'd be fine if the meat weren't so dry. This place is very good. I have tried different sandwiches here (chicken margherita, chicken pesto, buffalo chicken, turkey artichoke, etc). They are definitely good... right amount of sauce, meat and other stuff. The salads are very tasty and not very ordinary. The granny smith salad is very good; it includes granny smith apples, chicken, greens. The southwest salad is also very good. More than anything at this place; I like the soups. They are not plain at all. The tomato basil soup is my favorite. It is not watery and plain. It has a very good tomato taste with the right amount of basil and some cheese. You have to throw in your croutons to get the full flavor of the soup. Another yummy one to try is the Corn chowder. It is creamy but not too thick and has a light corn flavor that blends well with the croutons and everything else in it. definitely a good soup. My only complaint about this place is that it can get pricey, especially if you eat out for lunch every day. The food is good but definitely cannot afford to eat here often. If prices were a bit more reasonable, i would probably be eating something here everyday. Portion size compared to price is not very reasonable. read more
