The Belgium waffle was the perfect mix of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Between that and the hot coffee and avocado toast, it was a great breakfast. It's off of a busier road in Coronado so the outside patio can get a bit noisy but the further you get inside, the more the cute decor shines and ambience takes over. We ordered the steak & eggs, crab Benedict, Jerry's machaco, and Belgian waffle. The service was great! The crab was delicious. I also had the lavender latte and it's listed as iced on the menu, but I was able to get it hot. The beans in the machaco were cooked to perfection. My only critique is that my cousin ordered his steak rare, but it came out as medium well. It was not sent back or anything because he enjoyed the hash browns and English muffin with jam so much. Food- 3.5 stars. We ordered Denver omelette and one cafe bistro special. Denver omelette was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. My husband said he liked it. I do like their home made jam. Not too sweet and good with toast. My French toast was ok too. However, my corned beef hash was not good because it wasn't cooked all the way through. It was cold in the middle. I don't think they left it on the grill long enough. I told the waitress about it and she said she'll tell the cook. Never heard back so I ended up not eating it. Place is cute but small and cramp especially inside. So if you don't mind that then you will be fine. I believe this restaurant is attached to the hotel and is located off Orange Avenue. They get busy and there was a line so be patient. We were very patient to get in the restaurant and also for the food. I understand being patient but I think they can do a little bit better in food preparation even if they are in a hurry. Would I return? Not sure. It will be a while if I decide to return. read more

I've driven past those orange umbrellas countless times. My wife and I decided to stop for lunch at Crown Bistro, on a Wednesday. Weekends are pretty crowded, but during the week, seating is generally immediate. There are three levels of ambience. There are seats under the umbrellas facing the Orange avenue sidewalk, then a partially enclosed, yet light and airy section with no wind and less traffic noise, and inside, a quiet, darkly romantic, air-conditioned and well-appointed room. I chose the enclosed section, since I'm not a fan of wind or traffic noise, and liked the outdoorsy feel of it. My entree was the Asian Chicken Salad ($14.95). At first I thought the portion was a bit small, but found it to be very satisfying, just right for lunch. The greens were fresh, the chicken perfectly grilled, walnuts, citrus, crunchies, and the dressing was out of this world good. I asked our server about it, and she said it was house-made (and probably secret). Jerry T was our server, and she was perfect, with check-backs and just all-around good and friendly service. Crown Bistro isn't exactly a hidden gem, being right on Orange Avenue with orange umbrellas, but it is an excellent place for lunch. A true disappointment. The location was beautiful, perfectly placed, and the potential seemed to have no limits. We waited about 35 minutes, and got seated next to a high traffic door full of pestering flies which invaded our food and drinks for the next hour. The mimosas(left to right) - Classic? Ok nothing special -Green apple , crisp and refreshing - Grapefruit. Awful, mostly syrup no flavor. After about an hour of being there we finally got our food. The main meals: My french toast was chewy, cold and disappointing. The other meal was napolitano Joes egg scramble and it came out literally cold. Service: Fake. All i can say. She greets with a nice smile but took forever to come around every single time and someone else had to serve us our food . We asked for a fan to get some flies out of the way, but it never came. And to top off the morning, they ran out of ice for the drinks on a 90F day in San diego. Overall very dirty very inattentive and displeasuring. For a restaurant that is supposed to be 4.4 stars, it definitely didn't even come close. read more

I feel like this restaurant makes the majority of its money on waffles and French toast. They offer so many different variations of these on their regular menu and specials menu. My husband ordered a Banana Fosters French Toast and it was so delicious I couldn't stop helping myself to large bites! Nomz I wasn't craving a sweet entree so I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. It wasn't as impressive as the mountainous French toast won't entrees. It actually wasn't that impressive at all. The tortilla wasn't fried or crisped up. It was soft shelled and a bit soggy from being covered in green salsa. The not spicy salsa was still delicious but also the only real component to the Huevos Rancheros entree besides the tortilla, egg and cheese. I will say though that the side of refried beans and cheese was my favorite part of this entree. Service here was attentive and friendly. The café was buzzing with customers. There was even a picture of when Justin Timberlake had stopped by for some food! I wouldn't come back here for food because I like fancy coffee offerings and more than just French toast. My Son's NEW YORK STEAK and EGG had a good Portion and the steak was Flavorful and juicy, the New York steak and egg came with Toasted bread which came with some of their home-made Jam, which was very delicious. I forgot to ask them if they could sell me a Jar of it, but maybe I will ask again on our next visit 'coz their home made Jam is yummy ! My MIMOSA flight drinks were very cute with those small decorations on it, but they were very light in Alcohol, but it's okay, usually I'm a big heavy drinker at night anyways. I decided to seat inside because it was a little bit cold. I wanted to try their lavender iced coffee and let me tell You it was phenomenal!!!! For main dishes I wanted the lobster Benedict eggs! That's where my 4 stats come because to be honest I had higher expectations from that! There was literally no lobster! But it was still tasty. Came in to celebrate my mom's birthday with brunch and it was such a lovely time. There is always a bit of a wait there but that's to be expected as this place is a gem. We ordered an assortment of things but I am consistently blown away by the house Belgian waffle. It's one of the most delicious waffles you will ever have. True shoutout though to the service at Crown Bistro. It was such a busy Sunday but as soon as they heard it was my mom's birthday, they came back with a birthday hat, little flowers, and brought her mimosa in a special little bird flute that she was absolutely delighted by. Sadly didn't have a great experience. Flies were everywhere, my friend ordered steak and eggs and the steak was soggy. I also ordered eggs Benedict and the eggs were hard. I did a 3 month COVID quarantine on Coronodo Island. Crown Bistro was my go to for breakfast and lunch. I can't express how much I love this resturaunt. I've tried 90% of their menu. Sadly, I only had a few photo's to share but everything was fantastic. I really love their food presentation, the little flower and sage. My favorite was the Banana's Foster French toast, it was heaven. I really liked their staff. They were always friendly and accommodating. I think management handled social distancing very well. *** NOTE TO MANAGEMENT- My only complaint is that the staff all wear yoga pants. The guests are better dressed than the staff. Yoga pants are really offputting to me and very ghetto. I'm sorry but workout clothes should only be worn to the gym not to a charming little bistro. Are they serving food or cleaning the place. Something to think about when the guests are dressed better for breakfast than the staff. read more

Service very casual but friendly , i.e. you have to ask for syrup if you order pancakes-ketchup if you order hash browns and some servers wear exercise clothing .. we were lucky to get seated on the porch because sometimes outside near the street can be loud and sunny. We are rooting for this business, but there is some room for improvement with server training and professionalism. Also maybe don't clear plates when most of the table is still eating -it impacts the dining experience. That being said-We have never had food we don't like here! Solid 4 stars and more like 4.5! We had the lamb chops, veal Marsala, penne pasta with sausage, champagne arugula salad with breaded chicken and filet Mignon stroganoff. All we're pretty solid and that order was our order of preference as well. Everything cooked pretty Al dente and flavors were all good. Service was amazing considering they only had 2 servers on all tables (small place) and their attention to water service and even the kids (getting them plastic cups and engaging with them) was amazing and appreciated.
