I went here with a buddy who ordered an Oberon Ale. I asked for a Goose island and our waitress said okay. Comes back and asks me if I'm sure I want it because it's in a bigger bottle. Of course that wasn't a problem because I love beer. She comes back with a bottle of goose island Halia sour ale, costs 26 dollars (the most expensive bottle of beer on the menu) I came in for a burger and a beer and ended up paying 43 dollars. Manager would not knock anything off the bill or comp it. Just lost my business because on top of that, my burger was not cooked to what I had asked. I asked for medium and got well done. Visited during an hour lunch break during a work conference at the Marriott. Just my kind of bar! Dive bar vibe with inexpensive food and good beer. number of visits 10+ last visit ~ summer 2012 Crunchy's is somewhat of a local favorite in East Lansing. To start out with the best part, the beer selection here is awesome. It's definitely a great place to go for a great selection of craft beers. I enjoy Crunch's because of the beer selection. It's definitely a dive, not really a problem, just what it is. The place is very small. At night it's usually crowded and you often have to wait to get in, which can be annoying. Depending what time you come, a mix of students and older customers frequent this bar. They have buckets of beer...not a bucket filled with bottles of beer...literally a mop-like bucket filled with beer. You need 4 people to get it (I think you can get Miller Lite, Labatt, and Labatt Lite) and the buckets of beer are kind of legendary in East Lansing. They do Karaoke a lot. For me, this is a minus because it gets very loud and can be annoying. The service is bad and seems understaffed. Overall, this is a good place. I could give it more than three stars if the service was better, but with the terrible service I can't go higher than three stars. read more

Not a fine restaurant. It's a crappy college bar. We waited 50 minutes: politely, in an alley, as large groups passed by us and were admitted by a door man. No organized wait list. When we complained to the owner, he was pompous and patronizing. Again, college bar. Not. Anything. Else. Hilarious uppity crappy bar owner. Very confused. I taught special ed. That how he spoke to me... Like I was an impaired child. I was asking for fair treatment. He lied to our faces. He was not a man of integrity, however, because he would have refused to serve us all. Instead he chastized me to apologize so he could get money from our party. Apparently the customer is not always right. I've spent a great deal of money here in the past. Not tonight and never again. Lots of nice places for adults with nice doormen and nice owners. That's where you should spend your money. read more

We had a party of 7 in town for a "work thing" at the Kellogg Center. Easy walk to Crunchy's where I'd been once before. Great selection of food and drinks. It's not up-scale, rather a down-home neighborhood bar/restaurant. Some places will stay in business in E. Lansing due to the volume of students alone. This place will do well because the food is actually excellent. I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for a casual evening near MSU. read more

I have been to Crunchies quite a few times. They have a great selection of beer, very good prices, and a good 'vibe'. It isn't a big bar, but sometimes that hole in the wall feel is exactly what you need. Two big issues though is it is a terrible place to watch a game (I am a big sports guy so that bothers me) and the customer service is awful. The last two times I have been there the servers have treated me terribly. Lack of respect, don't give you the time of day, ect... Add a few more plasmas and get better servers and this place is the best small bar in East Lansing. read more

I absolutely love the atmosphere of the place- it's a classic burger joint in East Lansing, and can only remember one mediocre meal there in dozens of times eating. I recommend the atomic burger medium rare with Cajun fries-it's juicy and delicious! The only downsides are having to wait outside in the cold occasionally and slower service when they get very busy, but that's normal for many places. read more

Generally I think Crunchy's is OK, but that's only if I'm going with a group of friends to order a bucket and it has to be during summer when they're not even remotely busy. Otherwise the bouncer starts acting like a jerk if he thinks they're near capacity and you just want to go join your friends. I have loved this place since college days (80's). Incredible beer selection and fabulous atmosphere.

I think this may be my favorite place on planet Earth. Where else can you go and pay under $10 to drink beer all night with your friends? Crunchy's has the best deals with their buckets- be it with food or with beer. They also have the best activities. I love karaoke and I wish I could go every night. While it does it crowded and you do often have to wait in a line, that just shows how great it is. Everyone wants a piece of Crunchy's. Plus, any restaurant that has a strong social media presence gets an A+ in my book. Absolutely go to Crunchy's during your stay in East Lansing. Order some pizza nugs and a bucket of Labatt. Atrocious décor, still smells like smoke from the old days, ugly tables, worn out chairs, mowed down beer stained carpet, but you will never find a better charred hamburger anywhere in the world. Went on a Saturday evening about 6pm, it was busy but we didn't have to wait. Crunchy's is a typical local college dive, noisy but with really good food. We had the fried pickle spears appetizer which was really superb. We split a Crunchy burger and onion rings both were very tasty, the service and the food lived up to the good reviews we read prior to deciding to give Crunchy's try tonight. If you find yourself in the area, by all means, drop in for a bite I hear they also have some really good beer. read more

I resisted going because quite honestly I'm just not a fan of burgers and less of a fan of college burger joints and there are so many other options in this area so why go? I'll tell you why--it's okay good but the atmosphere is kinda nostalgically irresistible. I'm not an MSU grad but I was charmed nonetheless. I was visiting Lansing for work and decided to follow a Yelp recommendation for Crunchy's. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere, they have a very active Karaoke stage, a very elaborate beer list and when I was visiting it was during Michigan Beer Month, which was really quite wonderful. I had their signature hamburger and a big mug of beer. The food was done exactly the way I expected and the beer was quick and cold. The serving staff were friendly and quite fleet-of-foot as they have quite a bit of territory to cover. I did run into only a few negative things, parking is a bear, the nearest lot is curiously overwhelmed with rather grumpy signs pointing out that the parking is for the Biggby next door. That they can't share the lot is kind of dumb. The other bit is that the entrance to Crunchy's is in a rather tight alleyway between Crunchy's and the next business, an auto detailing place. It's not a problem, and there is a video camera pointed at the alley for security sakes, but if you are going after dusk it may be best to go in numbers. Not that crime is attracted to alleys, but it's something to think about especially if you've had a bit to drink, it's late at night, and you are on your own. read more
