We assumed it would come iced, which is our mistake for assuming. When our order came out, the matcha was hot. We went inside and politely asked if there is any chance we could get it iced instead since there was no option on the iPad. The owner herself took the drink and remade it, which we appreciated, but her attitude toward us after was unnecessary. She told us that next time we should order directly with them because we just "wasted their cups" and so on. We apologized again and explained that we would have selected iced if the iPad had actually given us that option, but she didn't really acknowledge what we were saying. What made the experience more disappointing is that I work in coffee myself, so I understand what it's like when things get busy. I chose Barista Del Barrio out of all the coffee shops in the area specifically because I'm Latino and wanted to support a Latino-owned business. I even tipped when I placed the order on the iPad, so I was disappointed with how we were treated over something as simple as an ordering-system issue.

Interesting atmosphere with flamingos galore and other things decorating the inside. Gives it somewhat of a party and fun feel. Food comes out in a timely manner even when they are very busy. Prices are reasonable. Give it a try, I think you'll like it. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. They have outdoor seating, which early in the morning is fine, but id avoid in the summer, which will likely mean you'll be waiting, depending on the time. Oh! I forgot to mention, they have very good drinks. They really are intentional about the blend of flavors, they have a little something for everyone. All in all, I cannot recommend this place enough. Well, we used to eat here, however I don't think we will anymore. We learned The Crying Onion hosts Oath Keepers meetings while eating there on Saturday afternoon. A number of armed men sporting Oath Keepers shirts and hats arrived and, after eating, brought out an American flag on a pole, pledged allegiance to it, then swore an oath to their leader. Following, they brought out a screen and began a lecture. Given that this meeting started at closing time and went ahead without a peep from the restaurant staff, I suspect the owner chooses to host these gatherings. I think it's best not to support a restaurant that hosts the meetings of an armed extremist group. There are plenty of other places to enjoy a tasty brunch in Tucson. read more
