For the price point ($7.50 + tax) and portion size for a simple dou hua or shaved ice (TOO SMALL), this place is a complete ripoff. I got a strawberry shaved ice eaten in-house, which was slightly cheaper than the tofu pudding but it was laughable how tiny the serving bowl was. Plus, there were only like 3-4 quarters of 1 whole strawberry served on top of the whole thing which consisted of an excessive amount of some artificial strawberry-milk like syrup that was too sweet and too pink. The added yellow and red jelly bits didn't add anything to the item. The bigger letdown was the tofu pudding. Since I've had dou hua on the streets of Taiwan for cheap, I was hesitant to order this because of the big price tag but decided to try anyways. I asked for it HOT and to-go. The picture showed soft tofu + mung beans + tapioca pearls + sweet potato/taro mochi/dumplings + possibly some herbal jelly. I waited maybe at most 10 minutes for my order to come out, and was surprised at how tiny the portion was-- literally just a small soup container -- that I asked the cashier girl to be sure. I'd recommend getting this either way as this is one of the most popular desserts in China and the main focus of this chain. You can't realy go wrong with any of the toppings or bases, but I personally prefer always getting bubbles, mochi, and red bean on mine. I came here for dessert, and I built my own. I got herbal jelly as the base, and I added red bean, taro mochi, and purple yam mochi. The herbal jelly was microwaved, and I know this because the outside was warm while the inside was still cold. The mochis were good and so was the red bean, but I suspect I didn't need to add both taro and purple yam because I also had sweet potato ones, so ordering one mochi probably just comes with all of them. The dessert was definitely on the pricier side at $10.17 post-tax, although it was quite large and could be shared between two. I found the coconut milk strange; usually in these sorts of desserts, the herbal jelly is liquid and not actually jelly so it serves as the soup base, but I guess this is how Sweet Kingdom does it. We ended up buying 6 different desserts, including their signature taro mochi/red bean soupy dessert. Though all the desserts looked beautiful, they were not that impressive by taste. I really really really have to disagree with some of the negative reviews of this restaurant. I was skeptical at first due to the negative reviews and almost avoided this place. Thank goodness I didn't. This place is pretty much the only place in the area that serves this type of Asian dessert. I got the Soy Pudding special no 2 and it was absolutely delicious. The taro was tender and the soy tofu was just the right amount of sweetness. The cute little mochi bites were just the perfect amount of chewiness (Q-Q for the Asians out there). I've tried a variety of things on their menu- drinks, shaved ice, soups. They're all okay and not bad, just no wow factor. Fairly close to the Chinatown train station, it's an alright option for some unique desserts and drinks. There are a few seats around the entire tea parlor. Papaya milk tea captures the subtle, dry sweetness of the fruit fairly well and is a nice pick up on a hot summer day. On the other hand, the green tea and taro milk are decidedly less tasty and seem to be powdery. Haven't tried their herbal desserts or stews yet but this seems to be the only place to get it in Chinatown.
