I stopped by here last night with my wife and her parents for dinner. Cuckoo Coconuts wasn't actually our original destination but a mixup found us here instead. The "inside" of coconuts is a place that's covered with umbrellas and has walls with fun murals on them. There are a number of tables and chairs and a small bar and then a stage which had live music while we were there. Other than that the decorations are somewhat wild yet fun as it has a tiki feel to it. There are tiki statues near the entrances, some tiki mask lights and lots of wood. They also had spotlights which changed colors and then some long led drop lights with the lights moving from top to bottom. For dinner on this evening I decided to have the loco moco. On the menu it looked like a fancy version with the rice clearly having been in a ring mold with the burger on top of that and then the egg on top. Whenever it came out it looked nothing the photo which wasn't a problem because it's loco moco after all, but why have the picture then? In any case the loco moco here was a pretty solid version of it. The gravy had a nice and rich flavor to it and a bit of a peppery bite. Meanwhile there was a big hunk of beef patty and then the rice was cooked properly. The only thing that could have been improved on was the egg which was more of an over hard than an over easy. The bottom line for me is that I would probably stop by here again in the future. I enjoyed the food that I had and everyone in our group also appreciated the live music. read more

The drinks we ordered were the popular ones according to our server. They were strong. Ordered three different ones and all were strong. No complaints. Dinner went well by the way ahaha. I came here last time for live performance and did that lady have a voice. She took a break and walked around engaging with customers and asking for our purpose for being in Hawaii. We took a quick midday stroll past Cuckoo Coconuts and couldn't resist the incredible ambiance!! We got the Tiki Colada, a rum / coconut / pineapple cocktail, and the Tiki Sunrise, a rum / guava juice cocktail. It was quite empty when we went around 3pm, but hey - it was 3pm! We were still running on Pacific time. With daily live music and a colorful, tropical paradise packed away in this venue with huge umbrellas for the ceiling (super cool!!), I loved every moment being at Cuckoo Coconuts! A super lively place for happy hour. The service was wonderful, though the only thing I would say is that I did feel a little bit rushed by the staff as we only ordered two drinks although we were only one of two tables there. If you're looking for A fun night out in Waikiki, this is a perfect place to go. There's live music Saturday nights and I believe sometimes Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tables are spaced out and the ambience there is very fun. The food is very tasty. Personally I enjoy the teriyaki chicken bowl or the cheeseburger and french fries. Mixed drinks are strong and I do love that. The owner and the staff are very nice and they truly look forward to being here every time I'm in Waikiki. Prices aren't so bad and it is kid friendly. I have brought my son who is 11 and also my nephew who is a year and a half. There is parking that's a seven dollar flat rate fee nearby. It's made out of umbrellas with a couple buildings for the bar and staff. Maybe it was open air at one time. It's a bit campy. Great place to go to listen to songs you can sing along. Or if your there for an event (birthday, honeymoon, anniversary, etc). They will call on you and sing you a song. The food is basic bar food. Think fried things, burgers, hot dog, etc. My burger was ok, but not great. It was obvious a frozen patty. All drinks are served with fresh pineapple in a plastic cup. We came to Cuckoo as it looked like a really fun, unique tiki bar to spend out last night in Hawaii at. Upon arriving, there was a long line which we waited about an hour in for in order to gain entry into the restaurant (they do not take reservations). There was nothing wrong about the line as this was expected for July 4th weekend in Waikiki. When we did get to the front of the line, we were seated by who appeared to be the manager or owner. Upon being seated, we had our drink order placed by him as well. Another lady dropped the drinks off without checking in on us and when we were done, another individual dropped us with our check. Throughout our experience, we never had a designated server who checked in on us. We ordered two drinks: - Tiki Colada light rum, dark rum, coconut rum, cream of coconut, pineapple - Tipsy Tiki light rum, vodka, wine, passion fruit juice Both drinks were, unfortunately, very disappointing. They were not balanced, were very harsh to drink, and just weren't enjoyable. We chugged them quite quickly just so we could get the buzz and head out. Hilariously bad. Where do I start? Service: What? Here is a menu, order things when you're ready. Food: Reheated trash. Seriously, Costco burger patties heated up in the microwave would have tasted better. Fries were clearly reheated multiple times. When I expressed my distaste for the food, I was met with a "you ordered it." True enough. I thought I was getting food, though. Not reheated garbage. Drinks? Those were fine. Had a fun time here last night. Drinks and food prices were reasonable and good quality. I got the Hawaiian fish and chips and it was delicious. Live music was great too. It did end up raining a lot and they ended up closing early; a little after 10pm for "safety reasons." The restaurant pretty much has a faux ceiling made up of umbrellas, so when it rains, you're probably going to get wet from the splashing. I figure this must happen pretty regularly being a tropical climate, so must be pretty rough on the business. It does add to the appeal though, when it's not pouring. One strange thing was that there was a strict "No Dancing" policy. Everyone thought it was a joke at first, but it was not. A few people were asked to leave, which was a bit off-putting. Almost thought it was an act. Strict insurance policy? Maybe they had a bad experience with someone who had gotten injured? Not sure. Just odd really. The no dancing proclamation kinda made everyone want to dance more, honestly. It probably could've been explained a little better. We really thought they were kidding. Also, we had to put our order in at the bar, even after being seated across the restaurant. There appeared to still be waiters/waitresses around, but maybe they had a staffing issue? Ordered the Real Pina since i felt it was appropriate to have my first drink in Hawaii come from a pineapple. They're super pricey but little creepers! Perfect way to cap off my last night in Waikiki! There was a line when we rolled up around 8:30pm, but it moved quickly and we were seated in 15-20 minutes. The live music was so good and the singer was so energetic and fun! Her performances brought the whole bar to life and really made my night. The drinks' prices range from $7-15. Besides the pineapple drink, I don't think anything costed more than $15, which to us was so much cheaper than other bars we went to in Waikiki. This was a place we rode by and my mother-in-law wanted to go for dinner because it looked kitschy and fun. It was certainly kitschy from the "roof" of umbrellas to the off key singer who was doing her best lounge act asking where everyone was from. When ordering drinks, the server was pretty sure the bartender would not know how to make a manhattan or martini and said we better just order one of the cocktails on the menu so we did. They had booze in them but that's best can say. When we asked for water to go with the meal, they gave us 4 dixie paper cups that felt like a joke. My wife and I had the Hawaiian burger and seafood sampler. The food was edible and tasted ok enough to not send it away, but did a bit of a number on the insides later on. It was served on paper plates resting on those cheap holders one might find at a thrift store. I am giving this two stars because it will forever be a story and a reason we will not let my mother in law choose the restaurants on vacation. On my second trip to Oahu, we spent our first night sipping pina colada from a giant pineapple and dancing to live music at Cuckoo Coconuts. This lively outdoor bar under a hut was a blast. I love the tropical decors and the live music they had. It was pretty crowded so we ended up sitting by the bar. Service was quick. Pina colada was served in a fresh pineapple. I almost finished by the end of the night. The singer for the night got people to go up and dance to all the old hits she did a cover of. So many locals join in from young to old. This bar definitely attracts a fun crowd. Beside dancing, many people are just here to relax and hang out with company. It was also convenience for us because it was in Waikiki so it wasn't too bad of a walk. Glad we stumbled upon this bar. A great way to start off the vacation. read more

This place is a pretty neat spot to grab drinks and chill. We came here for a friend's going away party and I was quite taken by the unique, bungaloo-style of the restaurant. Tucked away in a small corner in downtown Honolulu, the awnings, tree lights, and tiki statues lining the entrance give this place a Jumanji feel if Jumanji took place in a safari club. The food was just alright but the drinks were pretty good. I ordered the spicy salmon poke which I wasn't too happy with because of the amount of mayo on it, but that could just be my preference. The pina colada was pretty tasty and came inside of a pineapple which always makes the experience more fun. To liven up the atmosphere, they had live music playing and the band was pretty good. At one point, the singer pointed out a couple of my friends at the table and made them come up and dance with her, which made for lots of laughs. Parking can be found over at the mall so it is a little bit of a walk to get here, though it's not too bad. Overall, this is a cool spot.
