I took my Jamaican father-in-law here and he said it was legit! I really enjoyed the oxtail, plantains and rice and peas. The jerk chicken was good, but honestly, I suggest getting the oxtail instead! My one complaint is that we were the only customers ordering food and were told it would be a 15 minute wait, but it was almost an hour for our food to be ready. The lower level has a 1p person full service bar and sometimes hosts local entertainment. Parking garage is across the street with paid meters on the street. This might be the number 1 Carib restaurant in Memphis. Reasonably priced meals for the amount of food given compared to others. Their flavor has been consistent since I began dining there. Food: amazing, their curry chicken and rice and bean was unusually a bit too salty on this trip but overall still comforting. Wow! I was traveling through Memphis from Seattle, and Yelp didn't disappoint again! I rolled up to Curry n Jerk around 9pm and grabbed the best dinner I've had in quite some time. I ordered the Panamanian pasta with shrimp and chicken, and it was dope! For tyou old timers, "dope" means GREAT! I also had great service from Landon at the bar and all of the staff were super-friendly and attentive. Horrible! The food didn't match the picture. The service took and hour. And the atmosphere was loud with the party happening downstairs. But this wasn't the worse of it! They steal from you by charging a mandatory 20% tip charge for dining in and a 15% charge for carry out. Server didn't inform us of this charge. If she did, we wouldn't have ate there. Now did she deserve the 20% gratuity. No. She did not. She should've told us there was a charge for dining in. That's my tip! (Oh and if you're wondering, party size doesn't matter. You are charge even if you come alone). About the food: the rice was not fried as in the restaurants photo. It was more like a mushy rice. The flavors didn't impress me. Finally made it to Curry n Jerk. First visit was during Downtown Dining Week. Food was so good and the restaurant is beautiful with a great fine dining feel. Second trip was just as good. I know I gave one review already, but we went back to the new location and everything is STILL AMAZING! The restaurant itself is spacious and classy. They also have a lounge downstairs that is beautifully decorated. The staff was very friendly from the host greeting us promptly, the waiter who was very knowledgeable and helpful, the bartender who was amazing at his craft, and even the owner checking on his patrons and making sure everything ran smoothly. Be on the lookout for meter parking, valet parking, and parking garages. We arrived at 6pm on a weekday. The only Happy Hour they had was the Rum Punch. It was pretty good. We ordered Beef Patties and Chicken Patties as appetizers, I got the oxtails with rice and beans and side of fried plantains. The Patties are great. Be sure to ask for Mango sauce and Jerk sauce. Okay, I will start with the curry chicken dinner. That is my favorite thing on the menu. Wow! The chicken falls off the bone, it wasn't too salty and the sides are amazing. I got cabbage and peas & rice. Do it! You must not leave here without trying the fried plantains. So my dad is from the island of Nevis and I have been going there since I was a child. Plantain: Pronounced in the islands "plan-tins." Not "plan-tain," LOL!!! Another tradition is the beef or chicken patty. Sooooo good. A staple. Like French fries in America. If you get anything jerk, ask them not to cook the meat so hard. It's delicious, but often overcooked. I've gotten the chicken and the salmon. I was looking forward to eating some Caribbean food here in Memphis but was not happy with the overall experience. The waiter told me there was a QR code for the menu, I was reading thru the menu but the waiter was telling me what was on the menu. I hate when people do that, let me read the menu and ask questions if I have any. I told the waiter I wanted a Pattie and Coco Bread. Now when you say Patty and Coco Bread its normally Jamaican/Trinidadian/Guyanese style, iykyk. The waiter never explained to me nor did the menu say "Panamanian" style patty and coco bread. The waiter came to me THREE tines because he was confused about what I wanted. The chef then came out to ask what I wanted, I explained for the 4th time, I WANT A BEEF PATTY AND COCO BREAD!!! The chef then mansplains to me what it is and then goes on to tell me "Atlanta has fried chicken and New Orleans has fried chicken, and they're all different". I then ordered the "Curry and Jerk Plate (curry chicken and jerk chicken) and the curry looked correct in colour and it was okay at best. The chicken was rubbery, one piece still had blood oozing from it. The Jerk was not jerk, it was baked chicken with a mango chutney sauce on the side and a little Jerk sauce mixed in. The patty was shipped in and was the only good thing oh and the plantin' was good. Just say you're a Panamanian restaurant and that's it. Panama is not in the Caribbean. read more

Curry 'N Jerk specializes in Caribbean cuisine and they do a fine job of bringing a taste of the Caribbean up to Bluff City and with food this good, Memphis locals have a very good reason to look beyond the barbecue that Memphis is most known for and come check this place out. I am a huge fan of Jamaican food and went with their jerk chicken and it was definitely on point, especially considering that Memphis is known for their barbecue and southern cuisine much more than Jamaican food. All in all, I would definitely recommend a visit to Curry 'N Jerk. Small restaurant in downtown Memphis. It can be difficult to find a table walking in so I would recommend getting a reservation. The food here is nothing short of stellar. We went with a group and ordered a bunch of the popular items. Coconut Shrimp: Small portion size for the price. Coconut flavor not too overwhelming and it was perfectly fried. Would have been even better with a dipping sauce. Jerk Chicken Alfredo: Highly Recommend!! Jerk Chicken is cooked to perfection with the classic jerk flavor. The creaminess of the alfredo sauce paired very well with the chicken. Goat Curry: It is difficult to cook goat to perfection but the chefs here nailed it. The curry had good depth of flavor with all the spices. Reminded me of an Indian goat curry but with a slightly different flavor profile. Would recommend! Oxtail: Universally raved about and it lived up to expectations. Curry/Jerk Combo plate: Huge portion of food. The curry was well-spiced and the jerk chicken was tender. All in all a solid dish. BLACK OWNED BUSINESS ALERT Today I had the chance to visit a very talked about restaurant called @currynjerk Curry n Jerk in the heart of downtown Memphis. I've had so many people tell me about them and how I should check out this spot. I am so glad I did The menu was filled with so many items that sounded delicious but I decided to try their Curry Goat with cabbage and rice & beans. I'm so happy I got the chance to dine in with them cause baby they did what they needed to do. The seasons and spices were everything and I will def be back! The best oxtails. Let's just start there. Curry n Jerk is a decent sized restaurant of about 15 or so tables and a bar. I've been to their location for brunch (at the time they had bottomless mimosas). I've ordered food to go. But this was the first time I'd sat for dinner. I started with the rum punch from their happy hour menu. Good call. The Caesar salad's dressing seemed more of a vinaigrette instead of the traditional creamy dressing, but it was good nonetheless. Different but good. The bread is a problem. I honestly could only eat a couple of bites before knowing that I couldn't go any further. They were huge (the pic doesn't show their full size), fluffy, warm, soft and with a hint of sweetness. Like I said -- problem. Everything was good. But the oxtails? They were the star of the night. I asked for a side of grits and was grateful they honored my request although they "don't usually do that". The oxtails were extremely tender and paired perfectly with the grits. The cabbage has the correct name; they were rightly seasoned and had just enough spice. And the plantain did what it was supposed to do and made me want to order a side of plantains to go. Fried just right with a firm center. The rest of of the table ordered the 12 piece wings, fries, plantains, and the coconut shrimp. Although I didn't taste of it, they raved about the food. The coconut shrimp were large enough to fill for dinner, even though they were served 4 or 5. Curry n Jerk is Black owned and downtown Memphis. The customer service was great. Thank you to Shay for being our patient and attentive waitress. Parking can be a bit of a pain if you're looking for street parking. But you can park in the garage on 2nd Ave and walk around the corner to the restaurant. I was able to get 4 hours (more than enough time) for ~ $13. read more

Is it the best West Indian food we've had? I mean, no. Doesn't even make my top 50 list. But hey, this is Memphis. We should celebrate anything that's not BBQ or Southern in nature. I stopped in for lunch after hearing from one of their cooks how good the food is. After trying the restaurant, I was disappointed and underwhelmed with the overall quality of the food. It was not flavorful, hot, or seasoned well. The cabbage had little to no seasoning and while the portion size was good, I ate very little of it. The beans and rice was precisely the same. The Jerk shrimp had a few seasonings which were visible on the shrimp, but somehow the texture of the shrimp were tough. My bill came off to $45. I don't mind paying for food. I simply expect good food. The customer service was good and so was the ambiance. I didn't get remotely close to "authentic Caribbean cuisine," flavored food. Everything pictured is what I left.
