Finding good contractors can be challenging but this is not one of those times. From working with Benny in the showroom (who knows flooring really well!), to coordinating with James on the installation. Beyond them being enormously responsive with quotes, questions and scheduling, it got even better during installation. If you don't read the entire review, ask for Chris when you use Custom Floor. Our experience was great start to finish. Custom Floor was actually our final quote after a recommendation and we happily went with them for our new carpets, and plan to have them do our other flooring as well over time. Chris was our sales person/ consultant and he was great. Chris was very understanding of all we wanted in our new carpets and what our budget was. He came to our home (in a mask and socially distant) and took measurements and talked with us about what we wanted. From there, my wife and I went into the HUGE showroom to look around at carpet, padding and flooring. We decided pretty quickly (Chris had some stuff set aside for us) and put down our down payment. Chris let us know upfront it would be a few weeks as the carpet had to be made before being installed and we were fine with that! Fast forward and Chris called me to schedule a date for install- yay!! Luis and Anderson came on time the day of install (in masks and shoe covers) and were so polite and courteous. They updated us along the way during the day of where they were during install. Luis and Anderson did such a beautiful job with our install and we couldn't be happier. Before they finished a room, they let me go through and look to make sure all was well. They finished our full upstairs in a day. Chris called me the next day to check in and was happy to hear all went well. I cannot recommend Custom Flooring enough-- especially Chris!! Their pricing was unbeatable (Home Depot wanted literally 3x what we paid for carpet of lesser quality) and the customer service was spectacular. I don't have enough space to say how satisfied we are with our floors and the team at Custom Floor. Love the LVP we got.. except the flooring specialist didn't tell us that removing carpet would cause all the door trims to be taller than the actual flooring leaving very tall gaps between door frames and the flooring. We asked that they rip up the carpet and get with our contractor before they installed the LVP so they could secure the subfloor in certain areas throughout the home so we could get rid of all the squeaky flooring. A lot of it was addressed but still feel like half the house is still on squeaky old baseboards. But the biggest issue now is figuring out what to do with all 10 door trims that all have this unsightly gap at the bottom. Had they explained that to us as a possible consequence of doing LVP we would have gone a different route. Now there's no easy way to fix this. Can't caulk it because it's too high. Can't replace all the doors. Just filled with a house with ugly door/floor gaps. read more

I just had my carpets installed! Everything went smoothly, the types of carpet I chose was perfect, saw the finished product, I almost cried. Hah! Price - Very reasonable, better than Lowes/Home Depot. Possibly better than Empire. It was the service and professionalism that kept me with this company Service - I mainly dealt with Ryan. He was professional, honest, thorough with his work. Service of Work - Ryan came by to oversee the work, and left the two workers to handle the carpeting. Both workers were good at what they did, saw some issues (squeakiness in the hallway and steps) and nipped it in the bud, saw previous carpeting work done was messy, they did a better job, and more! They vacuumed and cleaned up after themselves. They were kind and respectful. Location - Conveniently located in Chantilly, it was little drive to Centreville. Hours - The best thing? They open at 7am! Most places don't open til 9:30am or so. I had time to kill after dropping off my son. This worked out perfectly for me. Bottom line - Ask for Ryan. I bought a condo about 3 months ago that had dirty white carpet installed all over. After shopping around, I ended up going with Custom Floor. Peter at Custom floor gave me a competitive price and had the best selection. I had the Coretec Premium 7" LVP in Pinnacle Oak installed and I absolutely love it. Since it is a premium product, it costs as much as some hardwoods, but it looks beautiful and it's very resilient. I have 2 dogs and 3 flights of stairs so it was important to get something low maintenance, sturdy, and non slippery so the dogs wouldn't have any trouble going up and down the stairs. We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Custom Floor in Chantilly! We first met Benny Chung, the General Manager, when he came to our home to measure for an estimate. He seemed to instantly understand the types of carpeting that would best fit our needs with two boys and two dogs. He was extremely savvy regarding colors that would go well with our existing paint schemes and furnishings. He was an expert in the production technique for various types of carpeting and how each would wear over time. He provided an initial estimate less than 48 hours after measuring the rooms, based on our preliminary choices. He invited us to the showroom - which was so large it was almost overwhelming - to assist in our final selections of carpet brands and colors. He offered excellent advice, with a keen eye for what might look nice, without ever pushing us in any specific direction. We had a tight timeline for completion of the installation due to an upcoming delivery of large/heavy furniture. He met the timeline he promised precisely. His installation crew worked very hard and were quite pleasant to my family. Overall, this business offers competitive pricing, quality products, and outstanding customer service. I wish I could write a review of the product, but they never showed up for the measuring appointment. They did not pick up the phone during business hours when we called. Finally, I tried to call back several days later, but was told to call back, because we had a "bad connection." If they are this difficult to work with before even starting, I can't even imagine the headaches after they have my $$. No worries, I found the exact same carpet at a different store that was more than happy to take my $4,500 and get the job done. read more

Although for the most part, everything was fine, there were issues, and I would be sure to review the work more closely if we had them do anything in the future. I also think that they might be better with carpeting than with tile. Not sure tile is their 'thing'. We had Custom Floor do a relatively large room with tile, picking tile that was similar to wood, because we wanted something more durable than wood in that room. Initially, everything went smoothly. Benny was very responsive, and came out quickly, and gave us a tentative figure, using an average grade tile. The gentleman came out to install the tile, and although everything seemed fine, when he finished, we noticed that there was no transition between the carpeted area, and the tile, which there should have been. Also, some of the grout appeared to be lighter, and some darker. That wasn't a bid deal, but we mentioned it. Peter came out right away, and looked at everything, and said that yes, there should have been a transition installed, and he also noticed the slight difference in grout color. He said that he would have someone out to install the transition, and that they would do something about the grout. Long story short... the same installer came out, installed the transition, which was good, and then tried to 'color' the grout with something that he bought at Home Depot. In hindsight, we should have just overlooked the grout color. When we got home that night, we noticed areas of the installer's 'coloring' on the tile surface a quarter inch to a half inch on either side of the grout in many areas of the floor. My wife and I had to scrape whatever this stuff was, off the tile, and it was a long, and tedious job. Unfortunately, my wife had already sent the final payment, so we really had no recourse. I sent Custom an email back on Monday evening, indicating what happened, but as of this morning, there has been no response. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I wish I could give them 10 stars! Custom floor just installed hardwood floor for my basement, stairs and bedrooms. They did an excellent work from the beginning to the end. When Peter came to the house for measurement, he showed me the measurement of every room and was 100% transparent during the whole procedure. I stopped by the shop to select color and materials on that weekend, and Peter gave me the estimate on total cost. I went back to sign the contract two days later, but at the moment I received his quote, I know this is the one I would hire and I couldn't get any better deals. The rest of the process went very smoothly. They came in to drop off the material on Saturday morning and started the installation 2 days later. Everyday they cleaned trash, locked windows and doors. I'm very satisfied with their service. If you need someone to install your floor, Custom floor is definitely the shop you can trust. read more

In October of 2019 I had my 48 year old, red oak floors repaired, sanded & stained & topped with 3 coats ( third coat is extra ) of a water based polyurethane. Because a family member was currently undergoing treatment for nasal lymphoma, we had to choose the lowest VOC's. Our choice was the highly rated, BONA HD WATERBASED polyurethane over an oil based polyurethane. I stress this as I read the main difference between the two is VOC's & dry time. Also, the oil based could leave a little bit of a more yellow color, but the thickness of the oil vs water could better fill cracks. On the day of the work I got to meet the owner Mr.Lee & the technicians, Wilber & his brother. I was surprised that Wilber was expressing that he couldn't repair five, floor boards with holes that were next to each other because they would stand out too much. He would remove the wood dowels ( that stood out ) & instead replace them with wood filler & then stain with the floor. I was promised it would look good. He was able to repair a single board what was cracked its entire length, in my living room. ( which he did an EXCELLENT job blending into the entire floor, despite the highly unusual width & depth of our floor. This required a lot of careful cutting. ) For some reason he stated he couldn't do the same for a board in the next room that was dented in & also cracked, but I was again promised it would look good with wood fill. I was told they would use Minwax stain, which I painstakingly scoured through the colors trying to decide between, only to be told on the day of the job that " those charts are digital colors & sooooo off by color." Having used minwax stains myself, I was confused because I found them to be spot on. I was told " Floors are different & we can't use two coats of color because it won't make the color RICHER as it does in wood molding for door & window trims, but INSTEAD will cause blotchy areas." I was frustrated to find the single coats looked COMPLETELY DIFFERENT & had to choose a new color all over again. Later that day, I spoke with people that had experience sanding/ staining floors & agreed with me that the minwax stain charts ARE accurate for 2 coats which DO make the color richer & the technicians are cutting out the extra steps of applying mineral spirits & a second coat. On line I read that professionals often use mood moisturizer or water evenly applied to open the pours of the freshly sanded/vacuumed wood floors. I immediately called Wilber to ask how he prepped his floors after sanding & he told me, " I don't. I don't use mineral spirits, wood moisturizer or water. " I LOVED the color of the SINGLE COAT of stain I ended up choosing, but was very disappointed with the repair results, with the exception of the single board that was replaced. No repair was done in the room with the dented/ cracked floor board. The wood fill in the five floor boards were already caving in & showed too much. I was told, " You see it more, because you know it's there." To top that, I could feel ALL the WOOD GRAIN of the oak, despite paying extra for a third coat ! A neighbor let me feel how SMOOOOTH their, water based polyeurothane floors felt. They told me," It sounds liked they skipped buffing & vacuuming between coats of polyurethane. Did you WATCH them ?" Later in the day I was able to confirm on line via blogs where professionals advised those who had this problem to do just that. Buff/ vacuum & add another coat of polyurethane. I complained to the owner, Mr.Lee who had Wilber come back in a timely fashion to do that, after he brought someone else in to replace my floor boards properly which Wilber stained to match. All looks beautiful now. Amazingly, you cannot see where the repairs were done. My advice unfortunately, is that youI should WATCH to make sure no steps are skipped, but in the end, . ..Mr.LEE will make it right. read more

The estimate was returned to me via email in a timely way. The entire contract process was done electronically- very convenient. David was always available to answer my questions (I had other estimates). The work was done as expected- they had to match stain to that of wooden stairs and floor on upper level. We recently had business with Custom Floor to install hardwood floors in our four bedrooms upstairs. Excellent service overall! I had the pleasure working with Ryan and his install team. Since I already had site-finished hardwood floors on the main floor, stairs, and hallways upstairs, I had a hard time choosing prefinished flooring which matched the existing color. Ryan was so helpful to find the right color and willing to offer multiple visits with various flooring samples to confirm the matching color. The whole process was smooth and satisfactory until we found some manufacturing defects in the flooring. As soon as we found the manufacturing issue, Ryan promptly responded and tried to solve the problem by contacting the manufacture and offering repair service. I'm giving four stars only due to an unfortunate manufacturing defect, but the whole service with Custom Floor, especially with Ryan, Avan, and Wilow, was definitely five stars. I've been thinking about how to review this company. The experience was certainly not exceptional. The crew that came in originally to install my expensive Shaw carpet did a very bad job, leaving seams exposed and visible and rough edges in many places, both upstairs and downstairs. When I called to complain, they sent out a crew to try and repair the problems but that didn't work very well. Things looked pretty much the same or worse. They did however discover that there might be a manufacturing defect in the carpet. Robert at Custom floor filed a claim with Shaw who sent a carpet inspector out to assess. The inspector acknowledged along with all the installation related issues that the (upstairs only) carpet was defective (why not the downstairs its all the same carpet). Shaw agreed to refund/replace the upstairs only carpet. After several weeks we finally found out that the refund Shaw was offering was less than 10% of our total cost, so we instructed Custom Floors to replace the upstairs only carpet. This time they sent out an installation team that really knew what they were doing. No visible seams, carpet looks great. I'm giving them four stars primarily for customer service and willingness to work with us through this entire mess. But not five stars because the installation should have been done correctly the first time, and I still have to live with bad installation issues on the downstairs level. read more

We hired Custom Floors to install hardwood flooring in our family room, downstairs hallway and the office. We then hired them to install hardwood flooring in upstairs hallway, our main stairwell and the 2 steps down to family room. Peter is great to work with, however he left it up to his installers to discuss critical questions about the molding in the stairwell and on the spot decision about what depth we wanted the treads to be when this should have been discussed in detail before the job began. There are some communication barriers with the staff. There were also a few steps that were not installed correctly. Stairs are really a job for experienced carpenters and we were only satisfied after the installers came back and spent an entire 2nd day fixing the stairwell trim and finish installing a wood trim that had to be custom ordered (another surprise). We would definitely hire them again but not for stairs. read more
