This is a great local coffee shop that is busy on weekends but worth the wait. A must try for the winter months through March is the peppermint cream cold brew, it's worth the try! You can order ahead and pick up at the window or stay a while and enjoy your coffee. They offer treats from Knead donuts and have a variety of eats. read more

If you're in Newport and you like coffee, Custom House is your spot! It's worth the extra drive for a really really good cup of coffee that isn't overpriced and worth every penny. Their iced coffee is a special house brew topped off with a bit of espresso and it is fantastic!!! Really full of flavor for an iced coffee. I loved how they had out non-dairy milk options on their coffee bar too (I find places usually have just cream, whole, and skim but they had almond and oat out too!) so you can add the amount to your liking. They also had a tasty selection of muffins, everything looked so good but I decided on the cranberry walnut vegan muffin which had a bran base. I like bran and don't like my baked goods to be too sweet and this was absolutely delicious! They also sell bags of their beans to go so you can enjoy at home! I wish I lived local because I would come here all the time read more

This review is based strictly on their coffee since I've only ever ordered through online and haven't been inside. Ummm can I say, DELICIOUS! Husband had the Zombie killer- he said it tasted like a vanilla cold brew with caramel- he loved it! They even had it in a refrigerator before pick up. I had the honey bee, and it was SOO good. The first time I got it, I had ordered it with whole milk. This time I had it with skim milk... my opinion is that it's better with whole milk! Don't worry about the milk fat- it's worth the calories! read more

This coffee shop has been on my bucket list for some time now! It's the cutest, coziest little coffee shop! When you enter it looks like a cute little house. The perfect ambience. I had that instant feel welcome at home vibe even when I was greeted at the counter. The girl with the red pinkish hair was super sweet & helpful! Sorry I'm so bad at catching names! My mocha latte was absolutely delicious and the espresso was pulled perfectly! Yum! There is a cute little outdoor patio area I can't wait to enjoy when the temperature is warmer. This place is kind out of the way from the bustle of broadway st but it's so worth the trip! The staff is very kind and their coffee is amazing! A lot of options for sure. For all my fellow military fam, this place offers discounts! And if you happen to come on a Monday your drink is half off. Very military friendly and very kick ass coffee! Would recommend for all the coffee lovers out there. Being from Washington State, I've always been weary of trying coffee shops at each of my husband's duty stations. Generally, I've been pretty disappointed that the only options I have are Starbucks or Dunkin. Custom House has been such a blessing! First, I'll address their COVID-19 precautions: on point. Next, the coffee! I've only had their iced coffee so far, and it is so SMOOTH. I'm slowly working my way to trying their espresso based beverages, so I'll update my review once I have. I've also tried their Ghirardelli hot chocolate and...oh my I would swim in a lake of that. The food? I've had their breakfast sandwich, AMAZING. Cinnamon rolls? I would eat a whole pan in 1 minute, tops. The double chocolate muffin?? GET OUT. So. Delicious. Everything tastes SO homey. If it weren't for Custom House being available to me, my survival in Newport/Middletown would be slim. I hope they're able to open up the dine in portion before my husband gets military orders out of Newport! I'd love to see it! read more

I drove quite a while to get here because the outside looks really pretty and the reviews seemed great. I'm really glad I did. The employees were really nice and the pastries and drinks were delicious. I tried an iced peppermint and sweet cream latte and it was so so good! My siblings got dirty vanilla chai with oat milk and they loved it too. For pastries we had the blueberry crumble cake, a knead chocolate chip donut, spinach croissant, and bacon & tomato quiche. All were super good, especially the spinach croissant. 10/10 recommend!! read more

My husband and I came here on a Saturday morning for some coffee to go. I liked the homey, country feel of the cafe without being to stuffy. There were a few areas with outlets in case someone wanted to make a day of working in a fun coffee shop with nice people. They also carry some snacks in case you want to eat there, too! I'd definitely recommend! Their coffee was very good, and they have a few fun concoctions if you want a sweeter and/or more caffeinated version of their coffee. read more

This is a favorite of mine. It's a cozy coffee house with lunch or dinner menus. I love the iced chai teas. You can get sugar free or decaf, it's a great afternoon pick me up. It's convent inky located in Middletown. There pretty quick so you can get in and out . I work down the street and run on between clients. I noticed there open at night now which is a treat . The staff is friendly and they are very helpful. There is plenty of small tables to relax at with friends or with s good book. They stated serving cocktails with meals . This is a new addition to there menu. I've been coming here for years and have watch it grow into a nice neighborhood place to go. I would say more from the grown up crowd than kids. Sometimes it's nice to grab a bite with the spouse. I hope you try custom house and have the same great experience as I have always enjoyed. read more

I came here for the first time this July because of the RI Food Fights "ICED COFFEE Summer Celebration". My wife and I visited all 54 locations in the competition, and this was tied for our favorite in the state. The coffee was fantastic, especially the caramel flavoring we for got in the iced coffee! The line was super long and took a while, but it was worth the wait. Definitely order ahead and pick-up to save time. read more

I literally walked 3 miles for this place and on every step the anticipation went up. I'm not a huge fan of Dunkin Donuts even if I am close to the origination I rather try a local own coffee shop any day of the week. CHC has the perfect setup for working, meeting a friend, enjoying a snack and of course having a cup of coffee. I must've stayed there about 3 hours working and sipping away at my jumbo nitro cold brew which had me wired for hours. For Yelpers you have to try this place because they offer 50% off for any speciality drink which really makes this a great deal. I had a breakfast sandwich and a 32 oz. coffee and it was all well worth it. Thanks CHC staff, hopefully I can visit again. PS there's free WiFi and it's pretty strong. read more

Custom House Coffee is everything you could want at a coffee shop. A good assortment of coffee beans, pastry, a great variety of drinks from coffee types to fresh fruit smoothies and of course the Zombie Killer. The ZK blends their cold brew with caramel and vanilla and has become one of my favorite coffee drinks, delicious!!! They have seating indoors and out (great for summer, December not so much) and wifi. I wish it were closer, but so worth the drive. The folks behind the counter are pretty cool too. If you're not sure about something, just ask. They know their stuff. read more

Great little coffee shop to go and get a quick snack and some great tasting coffee. I do wish their dining room was open, but I totally understand with COVID. I got a large coffee with a chicken pesto panini and I have to say I was satisfied. Friendly staff was helpful and knew exactly how to answer every question I had about the menu. So the food was good and yummy. My daughter and I had a lovely lunch and enjoyed our sandwiches and yogurt parfait. But there was a bit of a downside... Upon checking out, with our grab and go meal, of course using a card vs. cash, the system asked for a tip (which is the norm everywhere now and I'm always a generous tipper!), so I obliged. However, the cashier was really not that friendly and asked if we "wanted a bag." We had 2 sandwiches, 2 yogurt parfaits, a banana, a bag of chips and 2 bottled waters. UM YES we need a bag lol. She begrudgingly gave us 1 small bag and didn't bag the items for us. What exactly are we tipping for? Gratuity is a "service" fee. Not an automatic. I also had to ask for another bag as she watched us struggle with bagging everything in 1 tiny bag. As said - the sandwiches were actually very delicious. Super fresh with the right flavor. I'm always happy to tip even if it's just a grab and go situation- but please, do your job. I waitressed for years and know what service is and what the tip is actually for. Ordered the iced honeybee latte, very delicious! Next time I'll order none or light on the cinnamon though, because there was quite a load of it in this drink. (After settled, about 3/4 inch of it at the bottom of the cup which you can kiiiinda see in this picture) It was great but left my teeth a mess. Lol excited to try the zombie killer next time! Husband ordered the London fog and it was so good! I'm not even a tea drinker but I would drink that in a heartbeat. Ordered in person via ordering window d/t covid indoor area is closed. Kind staff, glad I looked up menu ahead of time though because I couldn't find one upon getting up to the window. Meet the Business Owner: Bob M.

As a lifelong coffee lover, Bob's goal from the beginning was to serve the best, freshest coffee possible in a pleasant, friendly environment. He began his research by roasting coffee beans at home on a small home roaster. He was so impressed with the superior flavor of fresh-roasted beans that he decided he had to have a roasting operation in his new store. Bob got his formal roaster training from Steve Diedrich, the owner and founder of Diedrich Manufacturing, where Custom House Coffee's state-of-the-art roasters were manufactured. Bob continues to serve as chief roastmaster, roasting several varietals of beans nearly every day on our two roasters.

Custom House Coffee in Middletown, RI, is my favorite local coffee shop. They roast the coffee beans right on the premises, so you know that the coffee is fresh. I've been going here for years. My husband and I use Custom House Coffee beans at home, so we go there at least once a month, sometimes more. If you're a local and you haven't tried Custom House yet, you should. If you're just passing through and you're sick of the big coffee chains, I definitely recommend that you stop by Custom House Coffee. You won't regret it! read more

Hands down the best coffee shop on the island! They have great coffee and reasonably priced breakfast sandwiches that they heat up fresh on the spot. Bonus, they are strong supporters of our military and veterans. If you are going to give someone your money they are the most worthy! read more

The espresso was equal as good. Not a hint of bitterness. I also had a biscotti, which it too was the best I've ever tasted (I was told they're made right there on-site). My partner and I stopped in for a quick nibble for lunch on Sunday and this was perfect. My partner went with the Caprese sandwich, which is served on a pressed ciabatta with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, spinach, pesto mayo, and balsamic. It was simple and tasty, and I was lucky enough to get a couple bites! I went with the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap, which was also simple, but packed with flavor. It had all the obvious ingredients with the addition of pickles, which added such a nice briny little punch and really hit the spot. Something worth noting: both of our items were ordered from the laminated menu at the register, not in the beautiful leather-bound Aurora Bar menu, which appears to be an evening menu with cocktails and other tasty food items. For drinks, I went with an espresso tonic; the slight bitterness of the quinine plays really nicely against the bold espresso, and it's one of those combinations that's refreshing in a way that's hard to explain until you try it. One small note for the team: the Riverside location has always had a real warmth and cohesion to the staff that I haven't quite felt at Bristol. I finally get my coffee, she came outside and said my order with an annoyance in her voice & placed it on the table Avoiding eye contact. Now I finally get my coffee and it is extremely melted & pretty much filled all the way up with almond milk. Frustrated I walked away with my coffee. At this point the coffee that I paid over $8 for was disgusting and I probably had at least 2 shots of espresso less. So now I go inside and still trying to be nice explained the situation and asked if they could remake my coffee, even just a small this time so I could enjoy my caffeine. They took my order, said okay. They go in the back and I could see them whispering & making dirty looks clearly complaining about me. She finally comes back & tells me I can wait for it outside. Once again as they bring it outside, they do not acknowledge me or apologize, just put my coffee on table & quickly walked away. I don't normally write negative reviews and I have been talking highly of coastal roasters for years. I just cant believe the awful customer service & experience I had there this saturday.
