Very pleased with our cardiology experience! We just moved to Texas and needed to get set up with a cardiologist here - our 12.5 year old mini Aussie, Rio, has a heart murmur and mitral valve degeneration. CVCA was recommended through our primary care vet and we originally had an appointment for May 2025 but due to a few changes in Rio's health we moved the appointment up to Dec 2024 which was very easy to do. The appointment went very smoothly, the techs were great and handled Rio calmly and gently, making sure she felt comfortable. I was able to be in the room while they performed the tests and the techs and Dr both explained what they were doing. Dr Katie was great, she recapped Rio's condition in terms that were understandable and told me what to expect and what to look for in the future. Her new medication was sent to the pharmacy, was easy to fill and it was very simple to make her follow-up appointment in 6 months. Thank you for taking such good care of our sweet girl! read more

Actually enjoyed bringing my heart dog (no pun) for what could have been a scary appointment. It was actually stress-free and very reassuring - I had an anxiety attack beforehand for no reason! I realize not all patients are as lucky as my dog, but Dr Meier and Shannah P (nurse) were both super efficient yet helpful, kind, and gentle, and had great care and concern for my pet. We were referred to CVCA by Austin Vet Hospital for my dog Rocky. As soon as I called to set the appointment, I felt so grateful we were working with them. They were so warm, friendly, upbeat, and organized. We're no strangers to vetting (3 boxers will do that to you) and after some tough vet visits, it's so nice to feel relaxed, welcomed, calm, and comforted during a specialty visit. I have been to this location twice now. First time was Nov 2019 and then again today May 14th, 2020. My first experience....it was a bit overwhelming because I had never been to a dog cardiologist before, it's a different experience than a regular vet. Also, I was so scared for my little guy...plus we got bad news that day. He was diagnosed with heart disease and placed on medication. I felt that Dr. Andrie was very caring and was generally concerned with helping my baby get the best outcome possible. There were also two techs in the room. I remember one was very nice and has a great personality and one was VERY aloof, irritated, and seemed to bring tension into the room...maybe she was just having a bad day. You never know what someone may be going through. Who knows, but it was very evident she didnt want to be there. 2nd experience...wow, is all i have to say! I am so impressed with this office. Today my baby saw Dr. Meier(Dr. Andrie has moved to the other location). Dr. Meier is AWESOME. Due to Covid I was unable to go in this time but I have to say I am so impressed with how they are handling the disruption. I saw another review had mentioned they had a bad experience during Covid. It seems like they have completely changed their protocols since then. My experience is a tech comes to your vehicle (full PPE) and takes all of your dogs information and talks with you about the whole process. They take your dog inside while you wait in your car. When your dog is done with the appointment the tech brings your doggo back to your car and then you talk to the doctor over the phone. I was so impressed with Dr. Meier while speaking with her over the phone. I never felt rushed or like I wasn't her priority. I'm a bit of a neurotic dog parent and always have a bunch of questions and need things explained in painful detail. She was just awesome. Will always request her from now on. All of the medications and precautions given to me on my first visit have been working! My dog is responding wonderfully and even got cleared(with certain precautions) for an unrelated surgery that he desperately needs. Looking forward to our next heart checkup in 9 months! This tells me two things...1) that they take detailed notes AND 2) the techs and doctors read them. They are fantastic, except for one thing: my dog lived a long time under their care. But in this time of veterinary shortages, any assumption that a regular vet who claims to treat emergencies, can be available, recognize, treat or refer to a competent emergency care facility is false. If I had it to do over again, I wish they had said, "If your pet is in what might be any respiratory distress, take them to AVES or CTVSH or even Pet Specialists.." There are at least a few Austin veterinary emergency clinics that can't recognize what I now know to be obvious cardiac emergencies. The vet shortage is so bad, that you can't expect competent care, outside a veterinary emergency hospital. Don't trust any veterinarian that is not an actual cardiologist, if you have a pet that needs to be treated by this practice. The doctors here are great. They should make sure they give guidance on what to do if you are a long term patient, in our current vet shortage crisis. read more

I drove all the way from Georgetown to the Shoal Creed location answered the staff's Covid-19 questions about my pet and myself and was left sitting another 45 minutes past my appointment before the staff decided to tell me that they weren't going to see me and to reschedule. Bad business, a waste of precious time away from my business, and gas! The staff asked me the normal questions: have you been exposed or had any Covid like symptoms is the last 14 days? Me: No. but I was tested a while back and never had fever and tested negative, it was just allergies. The staff asked if I had been around anyone with Covid-19? Me: No. Staff asked has your pet been around anyone with Covid-19? Me: No. They didn't ask how long my dog was having heart issues and cough which has been over a year and he has been back and forth between two vets that just want to sell me more medicine rather than dealing with his heart issue...he is a 12 year old Chihuahua. I finally asked if we could see a heart doctor after a year and they sent me to the folks. I wear a mask and gloves and they are dressed to the nines in gear and would rather take pets in from folks that haven't been tested which are more likely to give it to them (if they weren't wearing gear). I am so sad that my little guy is so sick and they want me to reschedule because I don't have Covid????? read more

I brought my very sick dog all the way from Dallas to be seen by these lovely people. They were kind and took the time to explain exactly what was going on and to answer my questions. The exam and test cost less than half of what I was quoted at the pet cardiologist closer to me and they were able to get us in within a couple of days vs 2.5 months for the first available appointment at the closer place. I have had my dog on the meds they prescribed and her condition has completely turned around. She is her normal happy playful self again. It was worth the drive and I'm so happy to have found help that was affordable, informative and saved my little fur baby. read more
