And so, having a strong constitution but weak bones after a nasty bout with polio, I stop at this fine Apothecary to acquire a meager sampling of one Dr. J.H. McLean's Volcanic Oil, fortified with turpentine oils for relief of the aches. (Also cures The Vapors, Trench Mouth, Mad Hatter's disease, and grocer's itch) As I peruse the fine sundries available here, what do I spy? Oh yes! The Missus could very much use this fine item...a "Choco mousse face mask"...oh my! I say! It must come from the far reaches of France's finest chocolatiers, but is available here for a pittance! But no, I shall save such pleasures for Christmas day, at the very least! Continuing my path through the myriad whimsies the common man may find use for, I spy some large flasks of the silly new beverage known as "Sodanated Waters", (a cure for mild Dipsipbiplia and Crooked arm) by the fine brewers on the Mountain Dew, and the silly "Pep Sea"! It seems some errant knave could not find it within their fortitude to put the large bottles back on the shelves from whence they came, and instead chose to place them in the middle of the walking space meant for gentlefolk such as myself! Hmph! My journey at an end, I find myself waiting to complete this dirty business, and what do I find? One rakish fop paying his considerable bill of sale with an enormous pile of pennies! Had my Lady not been present, I would have thrashed him soundly and shown him what for! I took the Covid test at the Riverside location. I do not recommend taking it here. They do not follow the instructions at CVS's website. After you swab your nostrils, you place the swab in the tube for a few seconds and throw away it in a brown bag given to me. As the video demonstrates, the swab is placed in the tube and the top broken off. The swab remains in the tube. Also, when i finally pulled to the drive thru window, it took them 10 min just to give me the kit. All in all it was a terrible experience. Do not go to this location for Covid testing. read more

The ABSOLUTE worst pharmacy I have ever dealt with. My birth control was called in at 10:30am and by 6:30pm when I went to pick up it was still not ready. I was told I would receive a phone call when it was ready and that was 3 days ago. Still no call. I have attempted to reach them by phone more times than I can count but I've sat on hold for at least 10 minutes every time with no answer. I have had an issue with them for every single prescription I've had filled there. NEVER going back and I suggest you go elsewhere also. read more

I had to go get a Covid test before flying to Hawaii. It was a drive-thru self exam. Some of the fluid from the test tube spilled out and I asked the woman at the window if that was ok, she already had this attitude of rushing me away from the time I pulled up, so when she said yeah it's fine, I believed her. Fast forward and I had to cancel my trip due to spilling that liquid. I don't know her name but she had her hair in a bun, big fake eyelashes and light-tan skin. Could have been Hispanic or Black, either way she was not knowledgeable of the testing procedures and very rude. Most of the pharmacy staff do not look like they even want to be there. They are slow, and have the worst customer service I've ever experienced at a pharmacy. Train your staff better or hire someone else. read more

Terrible dropped off a prescription three hours ago. Kept waiting for a text. Finally went in still not done. Pitiful glad I wasn't in pain with my gum cut open, really. I went in to pick up my prescription (which I needed urgently) when they said it would be ready and when I got there, a woman told me she had never seen this request before and NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE MEDICINE as if I was lying about a rash on my face that would spread as long as it didn't get the necessary medication. A couple of nights ago, I called the pharmacy here and got Luis on the phone. It was 9:20pm, and I told him I thought I might have pinkeye, and that I wished to speak with a pharmacist about it, and asked how late they were open. He said they were open till 10pm, and that if I came in with a prescription, I'd have to wait for it to be filled until the next day. I told him I understood, and that I didn't have a prescription, I just wanted to talk to a pharmacist. Then he tells me that "hey, if you come in with a prescription, we can't fill it tonight, you'll have to wait till tomorrow!" Yeah! Uh huh. That's what you JUST said! So I repeated to him that I didn't have a prescription, I just wanted to talk to a pharmacist about my symptoms. He put me on hold to speak to a real pharmacist. Meanwhile, I drove over to the pharmacy, still on hold the whole time. As I walked through the front door, they hung up on me. I spoke a male employee at the front register (not the pharmacy,) and asked him, "Who answers the phone around here?" He apologized, and told him that if it was a rude person who I spoke with on the phone, "it was probably back in pharmacy." He didn't want to know my story, or how I had been utterly blown off, and said, "I'll talk to them." In other words, he would give a blanket statement to the pharmacy people to "not be rude," which I highly doubt ever happened, hence this bad review. I went to the pharmacy, where Luis claimed he did not hang up on me, and finally got to speak with someone: a pharmacist. She was of some help. When I checked out, the nicest employee of all (a cashier) gave me some tips on pinkeye, and what she did when she contracted it. My main issue here is this: don't blow off your customers. Don't try to dissuade them from coming in. And certainly don't hang up on them. Also, try to LISTEN to them when they're talking. Just a start. Your customers are often in pain, or they're sick. The pharmacy staff is incredibly rude! I don't know if it's because I'm young, but I am still a customer. The cashier didn't want to help me and had an awful attitude. She grabbed my medicine and rudely said "do you have insurance, because if not, it'll be $60." I forgot my pharmacy card so I said "I'll be right back, i have to run to my apartment" and then she said they were closed and slammed the metal gate in front of me. I have never been treated this poorly by any customer service employee! I looked them up on google and they have a 2 star rating. I understand why! So I have been a long time yelp lurker and recently created an actual account just for this review because my blood still boils almost a month after my last interaction with the pharmacy at this cvs location. People!!! Believe all of the negative reviews and low rating of this place because I promise you it is all very accurate. In summary, here was what happened: About a month ago I received a letter in the mail directly from cvs regarding a recall on vitamin D supplements I had a monthly prescription for. This prescription was not for me but for my infant daughter. The letter stated that the recall was due to a bacteria found in the supplements that could possibly cause serious illness and to return all opened/unopened bottles to cvs for a refund. Obviously my first reaction was concern and anxiety. As a new Mom the last thing you want to hear is that something you have been giving your baby could potentially have dire consequences. Fortunately that was not the case for my little one because that would have been a whole different dilemma. I called the pharmacy the next day to inquire what I should do with the two and a half bottles of the vitamin D and that was the beginning of the drama and sheer lack of empathy or professionalism on the pharmacy's end. The first pharmacist I talked to sounded confused and told me to call the pharmaceutical company that made the vitamin D in regards to a replacement/refund. Huh? No. The letter was FROM cvs and told me to bring the vitamins to them. She then tells me to bring the supplements to the pharmacy and they will handle it from there. Later that day I go through the drive thru and same pharmacist apparently remembers me and before I can even get a "hello, how are you?" out of my mouth she cuts me off and says she will have the pharmacy manager call me some time the following day. Ok cool sounds good. Jump to about 4 days later and surprise! No phone call. I was needing to purchase a few things at cvs the following week and figured I would stop by the pharmacy to see what's up. This is when it went from annoying to unacceptable. I walked up to the pharmacy and was literally the only customer. I stood there for a good 5 minutes before being acknowledged by two technicians who were sitting maybe 10 feet away discussing their work schedules and time off requests. This kind of stuff usually doesn't get under my skin because I have worked in customer service for the past decade so I have a very high tolerance and understanding of the fact that we are all human beings with lives out side of work. When the female tech finally came over to me I calmly explained the situation and she stared at me with a blank face as if I was speaking a different language. She wasn't really sure how to handle the situation so she grabbed a man who I'm assuming was her manager. This guy was a joke. He couldn't even look me in the face or attempt to speak to me but instead very loudly told this girl I couldn't get a refund because one of the prescriptions were from June? I tried to explain the letter I received and it was seriously like I showed up trying to get a refund on a pair of pants I bought from target. They were THAT confused. A store manager was finally called over to give the "authority" to refund this vitamin D that could have potentially put my child in the hospital. He was literally the only person that had any capability of basic human interaction. The technician finally refunded me for two of the bottles but explained she had to do two transactions. Huh? Ummmm ok? Very, very, VERY long story short, this pharmacy is tragic. Horrible lack of communication, technicians that clearly hate their lives and their jobs and need some serious training in customer service relations. My biggest issue wasn't even the money/refund to begin with even though I think from a business perspective I had every right to get my money back for something that was going to end up in the garbage. Looking back I should have just tossed the stuff because getting $14 refunded wasn't worth the headache. The thing that bothered me is that at no point in time did anyone offer an alternative supplement or consider the fact that my daughter could have been harmed by this stuff!!!! Isn't your JOB in a pharmacy to make sure people are getting accurate and safe dosages?!! Do yourself a favor and go to the Walgreens up the street for your prescriptions. This is by far the worst pharmacy ever! The staff is incompetent and my guess if most of them don't even have a high school degree. Everytime I receive a call saying my medication is ready to pick up I am told it is not when I get there. Today was the last straw and the reason I will be transferring all prescriptions to a new pharmacy. I was told my adderall prescription would be ready on Dec.9. I called on Dec.14th to make sure it was ready, to avoid the normal hassle with this pharmacy. I get there on Dec. 15th and they say my prescription is expired which makes zero sense. I ask to speak to the pharmacist and she is incredibly rude and offers no apology. She tells me I can go to another pharmacy! I also know other people have this problem, because I have heard others yelling at them. CVS you really need to take a look at this location and get a better pharmacist and pharmacy reps. read more

I submitted a refill for Flonase (you know, the bottle you stick up your nose that should already come packaged to their store and they don't even have to count pills to put in a bottle) yesterday morning around 8:30 AM and requested to pick it up at 5:00 pm. I arrived there around 5:40 PM and my prescription still wasn't ready. This is the thrid time this has happened with this location. WORST PHARMACY IN THE WORLD, hands down. In a nutshell, they are slow, unresponsive, rude, bumbling, and cannot be trusted with my medication. They've LOST several of my prescriptions(!) or have not informed me that they are OUT of a prescription I've tried to refill. When I show up to get it, THEN they tell me they don't have it. They argue with me about not having received prescriptions, and 100% of the time they DID have it. I had to CONFERENCE Ramon, the pharmacist, in WITH MY DOCTOR today in order to get meds my doctor faxed over 6 DAYS AGO and I had already told him this several times. What an ASSHOLE! The staff doesn't come to the drive-thru window promptly or answer the phone (you hold for 15 minutes). I will never, ever use this pharmacy again in my life, or visit that store for anything. I am so frustrated with this pharmacy and have finally given up. I am changing ASAP. I have asked that certain drugs be taken off of automatic refill and there they are again the next month! I have asked them to put drugs on automatic refill and the drugs aren't on auto refill so of course they aren't ready. The complaints go on and on...." Your medicine isn't ready so drive around again, oh it's still not ready so you will have to come in or drive around again." Now mind you, they had over 6 hours to get the medicine ready and days to get the others ready. Many of the staff are not very pleasant to deal with and you never see the same tech twice. Extremely poor customer service in the pharmacy. Today there was a miscommunication about a prescription for my toddler and the young girl was rudely adamant that this was my fault, and that it is "common knowledge" that the pharmacy will mix your child's liquid antibiotic with water for you. I wasn't aware that's what they were mixing (could have been other ingredients) and the bottle clearly says to ad 9mL of water. Pharmacy manager rudely told me I should "call the manufacturer about it then." Even the CVS instructions simply have "mix" handwritten on them -- was not aware that wasn't an instruction! If you cannot be clear, and you're going to be rude on top of it, maybe this is not the correct industry for you as clarity is EXTREMELY important! I don't have anything against CVS as a brand (besides that the ExtraCare is hard to use -- Walgreens cash back is so easy!) but this store sucks. Firstly, I must state that I have been a CVS customer for over 15 years and have lived in multiple states giving me experience with a multitude of different CVS stores and pharmacies. That being said, I must finally speak out on the atrocity that is CVS Riverside in Austin. I have given it four years while at university here and have suffered it's inadequacies until now. I have switched to a different pharmacy as nothing could be worse than here. The Store: If you are not immediately accosted by derelicts at the front door, then it is your lucky day as some poor customer prior to you must have appeased them. If you happen to enter without this occurrence than you will no doubt be affronted by the vagabond customers that frequent this CVS and leave it in a generally trashy order upon exiting. The aisles are always messy, some child is almost certainly crying every time, and there will undoubtedly be a long line of cretins and delinquents being serviced by a single female who has assured herself that Spanglish is in fact a language. If this female calls for help (which is a rarity), it is only to assist her in gossip and laughter with another co-worker while the customers continue to wait in line. The products that are available are usually picked over, dented, or missing their contents. Their photography center is more aptly called a corner - a dark, unused, and disorganized corner behind the registers. The Pharmacy: Most of my business at this CVS occurs here. I have never had the pleasure of a more inattentive, inconsiderate, and incapable staff in my life. Whether on automatic refill or call ahead, my scripts are NEVER ready in time. I've taken to the habit of calling an entire day in advance, asking for the scripts to be ready in an hour, and then giving them a full 24 hours to do such before picking up my medication. Regardless, even this does not give them enough time to fill them. The middle-aged Asian woman, who I have never seen smile in all four years I have worked with her, gives nigh a greeting or dismissal, but merely grunts and ignores you until you've waited at least 10 minutes for her attention. She is always in a sour mood and most likely affects the mood of every other employee in the area to be the same. There have been a rotation of poorly educated and unprepared students throughout this time that could not be more clueless to the workings of a pharmacy if they tried. Whether this is due to lack of training or lack of knowledge I cannot be sure. They give false information, ridiculous excuses, and bad customer service on a daily basis. The pharmacist, who I can only assume is either the Asian lady or the vaguely native/mestizo/hispanic man who is equally as rude as her, has never made him/herself apparent to me and has never once questioned a new prescription or pill combination or made any efforts of introducing himself or apologizing for the dismal efforts of his staff. None of them follow directions. None of them are courteous. I have asked for my medication to be taken off of automatic refill only to have it take months to do so. I have requested the brand name versus the generic only to get the generic. I have requested rushed scripts when ill and hard to find medicines to be ordered, etc, etc, all with issues and troubles on the rare occasions that I ask. If this is the service you are used to and enjoy then that is a pity. As for me, I expect more, even from the slums. Avoid this CVS if you can, it's not worth the hassle. I have definitely had better, but never worse than CVS Riverside. read more

If I could rate this CVS pharmacy store No.6945 on Riverside Drive any lower I would! It is conveniently located near us. I have lived in 5 different states and have never had an issue. Austin has been a different thing all together. I have walked out with other peoples medication, the wrong medications and so many frustrations its pathetic. The front of the house is okay and pleasant the pharmacy is located in Dante's 9th level of HELL! The pharmacist's rotate through there like the place has a revolving door. The technicians that are there, with the exception of one or two are horrendous! Most of them act like it is a horrible chore they must endure. There is a severe lack of customer care and basic lack of human kindness. They will ignore you and not even acknowledge someone is standing there. I have been trying to get a prescription filled for 2 weeks! The pharmacy kept trying to push a generic version when my doctor called to request NAME brand only. Finally, after 2 weeks of calls from my doctor, calling the insurance company and the pharmacy I got the medication. Today, I have called the corporate office of CVS and filled a complaint. While I waited on the phone, both the CVS customer service and my insurance placed calls to the pharmacy trying to figure this out. They also got nowhere. Now, I am waiting for a call from the Corporate Pharmacy Manager to help resolve this issue. For CVS, make sure you know what your people are doing and how they are interacting with your customers. Make no mistake, we are customers of CVS and there are so many other places we can go to to fill prescriptions or what ever it is that we need. I now only go there for prescriptions if I want anything else I drive to Walgreens. I don't want to change pharmacy location because of the convenience but I think now I must. I should not have to because of inept, rude and belittling individuals behind that desk. read more

This cvs never has anything you need. They will gladly tell you it will take a week to get your script filled. I will call in advance to see if it's available, but I wait on hold for 30 minutes. While every other cvs can get it filled within 24/48 hours, this location says a week. Which basically means I don't want to help you at all. Oh and be careful, they do not secure your script on the drive through. Mine blew away and I had to physically get out of my car and chase it. Great work CVS. CVS/Pharmacy May 03, 2013 I recently went to one of your locations (4405 E Riverside Dr., Austin, Texas) to have a prescription filled and received the lousiest service I have ever encountered, such audacious lackadaisical attitude and lack of work ethics and professionalism are but the beginning of a number of things wrong with at least this location. I understand that at times a clerk may get busy or overwhelmed, but never should we the customers pay for it, especially from the medical side of the world where bed side manners and courtesy go a long way and at times are the only things that make a person feel some form of comfort. I too am a very busy person and with great care plan my daily tasks and allow room for changes if needed, so I truly detest being lied to and hate that your personnel doesn't care nor acknowledge the possibility they are adding chaos to an already hectic world. I came to your drive up window and was told I'd be placed in your system as someone new and that my prescription would be ready in an hour and a half. I came back two hours later and it was NOT ready, so I politely said I'd be back the next day to pick it up. Around noon the next day I went back to the same location and the drive through window is closed, so I parked and went in and waited for my turn in line, just to find out that it was NOT ready and to give them more time to fill my prescription and was asked if that was OK, I said, "No, it's NOT ok, you've had it since yesterday." The clerk said, ok and walked off as though I no longer existed. Then she shows up later and hollers a name without even looking at me or acknowledging me and I'm in the same place she had left me. No explanation, no excuse, no apology, NOTHING. At that time I wanted to speak to a manager but knew it be a complete WASTE of time. Another gentlemen, wanted to pick up his medications and had to wait too, he told them they had had them for three days (and still NOT ready). This is why I am writing your corporation to inform you on the great personnel and services (being facetious) offered in your name. This location continues to miss the mark on customer service. From only having 2 grocery carts last year (the manager said it was a waste of money because the homeless people kept stealing them), to the photo machine being broken (store staff didn't think it was important to take 5 minutes to put an 'out of order' sign on the machine) and now, to waiting over 10 minutes after clicking the 'hit button for service' button by the perfume cabinet over and over again (the manager said the thing was put in when then store was built and its been broken for years - again, why not take 2 minutes and put an 'out of order' sign by the button??? or better yet, what about if the cashier who sees me standing there hollers, sorry lady, that doesn't work, let me call someone for you).
