I knew what I needed to get my HVAC fixed (evaporator coil with txv) so I asked them for a quote. While most companies wanted to charge up to $125 to come out and "re-diagnose" (despite having 3 different companies come out), Cong quoted me a price that BLEW THE COMPETITION AWAY. Longer story below if you want to read, but long story short, these guys are honest, honorable businessmen. It's so refreshing to find people that still know how to do good business and make you feel secure about giving them your hard earned money. Look no further than these guys. Trust me, you won't regret it! Here's the longer story. Some of you may find it helpful: Moved into my new place in Oct 2021. In Aug 2022, bam! A/C goes out. It's not blowing cold air. I had houseguests so was eager to get it fixed. Hate to sound cliché, but yes, it was one of the hottest days of the year. Without thinking, I reached out to a company that had good reviews on yelp. This is estimate number 1. Charged me 89 bucks to come out, and told me I needed a txv valve and he could replace it for 1700. He said I could replace evaporator coil with txv for 2700 and get it replaced quicker. I was not wanting to pay that much, especially since I had just moved in, so needless to say I was disappointed. He said "aren't you still under home warranty." Indeed I was, and totally forgot about it. I wish he never said anything because dealing with the warranty company was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I called the warranty company (HSA a sub of American Home Shield) and paid 100 bucks for another technician to come out, hoping that they would replace the txv. This is estimate number 2. It said in my contract that they would, so I'm thinking it'll cost me 100 bucks to get it fixed. Bingo, right? WRONG. One of the warranty company's vendors comes out, spends all of 10 minutes looking at it, and says "you need a whole new system." I knew that was BS, but if they are going to replace my system at little or no expense to me then I'll take it! I get the call from the warranty company--apparently they will pay for it...BUT...the contractor wants to charge me over 3000 bucks in "modifications" to get the job done. That didn't make any sense to me and I wasn't going for that. After wrestling with the authorizations department at the warranty company I was able to get them to send out another tech from a different vendor for a second opinion. This is estimate number 3. This guy tells me I need evaporator coil with txv, consistent with estimate number 1. So OK cool...I can just get the coil with txv fixed at little or no cost to me, right? WRONG. Warranty company calls and says they will replace the part, but this job needs 1200 bucks for "modifications." I'm like WTF, dude. I was enraged. Not because of the price, but because this is an obvious scam. That's when I called Tran, Air. I wish I had called them first because after a month of dealing with the warranty company in this hot house it would have saved me a ton of stress. I contacted Cong on Thursday and told him what I needed. He said he would pick up the parts and come replace on Sunday. He called me on Friday and said he had a break in his sched for Saturday so he could come then. Sure enough, he came on Saturday, fixed my A/C in 90 minutes (everyone else said it would take 4 hours) and charged me almost half the price to replace evaporator coil with txv than was offered by Estimate 1. Tran Air really came though in the clutch and I am super grateful for their service. Do not hesitate to contact this company. I will refer them to anyone looking for HVAC repair and they are now my go to company for anything HVAC related.

A different tech was dispatched and proceeded to tell us the thermostat was somehow to blame. That tech then ineptly rewired our compressor and told us the reversing valve was bad and that the overflow was because the whole AC unit was due for a $10k replacement. After a lot of frustration and worry, I decided to do my own work. I bought equipment to blow out the drain myself and sure enough, the first tech had managed to clog it, because once I did it myself, the system ran fine for the rest of the cooling season. Dry as a bone; not a single pan overflow. There was $10k saved. When it came time to switch to heat mode, the system wouldn't switch. Since I was told the reversing valve was bad, I thought that might be it. So I called a different company. Their tech took one look at the compressor and said "This is wired incorrectly, someone jumped your heat and ac lines together." The tech from a different company rewired it and the system entered heat mode with no issue. They say, don't attribute to malice that which can be attributed incompetence. So when one Atlantic Coastal tech clogs the drain line, then the second incorrectly rewires the compressor before telling me the whole system needs replacement... The nicest thing I can do is attribute it to incompetence.

I was a little skeptical about Potomac HVAC's reviews originally because it had so many 5 star reviews which is hard for me to believe. Well, I stand corrected. Mike showed up within 2 hours and I jumped into discussing system replacement cost. He was honest, friendly, respectful, and professional. He said he liked to make money but it wouldn't be the best choice. He adjusted the mixing valve FOR FREE!!!!!!! Michael and Son charged me $174 for diagnosis and did nothing. What a scam! Just want to comment about today. Read on if you want. But, know that overall, I highly recommend them While I didn't catch the name of this morning's tech, I have to admit he's partially the impetus for this review. If you get him--he's tall, about 6 feet with glasses and long salt & pepper hair that's in a low bun--just know he's incredibly straightforward and blunt. Our AC hadnt been working for about 36 hours and while I IMMENSELY appreciate his coming out today, when I asked him a question about something our thermostat's been doing he interrupted and said "oh you have the heat on" like that'd been the issue. It wasn't. I had to cut him off and explain the thermostat, installed by Pepco years before we moved in, goes to that first before you click the button one more time to get it to AC. How did he not assume that? He went outside to check our actual AC unit and then came back around, saying "you've got a bad compressor". When I asked if that was an easy fix, because I didn't know, he scoffed and said "yeah, i've got one in the truck. Same blunt, kind of dismissive "why don't you know that" tone. Sorry for asking, yeesh.

Avoid Rod Miller. My experience was terrible. I am 74 yrs old sweltering in heat in Chevy Chase…read morew/ a dead A/C unit. I needed a new HVAC unit asap in my high rise condo. I called them. I made a decision to purchase, then next day the sales person called me and tells, "someone else bought my unit!" A larger company bought up stock. I make another decision on a different larger HVAC unit, (more expensive hmmm). I call the VP ( Brandon Tolbert) for reassurance this "disappearing unit" will not happen again...and he SHOUTS at ME, and insinuates things I never said. Unbelievably unprofessional and abusive. I told him to stop shouting at me, saying untrue things.....he does not listen. Mr Tolbert, lost his temper and HUNG UP on me! WOW I'm so happy this miserable customer service experience happened before I could buy from Rod Miller. I can only imagine how they treat people when the HVAC unit goes bad. Too bad, Daddy Tolbert is the President...and his son is VP wand will probably never be held accountable for his actions with customers.
