this is my first time at this store and my 2nd time shopping at this type of stores. I have to thank both Heath and Ivan for such great customer service they gave us. Being a novice with motorcycles these guys made me aware of many things, they answered each and every question, they were knowledgeable and patient in explaining differences and features of the items we were purchasing here. I HIGHLY APPRECIATE their professional knowledgeable and friendly service! We ended up getting two riding helmets and other goodies; I received plenty of new info on how to care for it, what to expect and several other useful info. I stopped by here a few months back to look for a new pair of gloves. A staff member immediately greeted me when I walked in the door and asked if I needed any help. I told him that I wanted to check out some gloves because I wanted a pair that offered more protection than the gloves that I originally bought just to take the MSF course. I told him that I wanted to try and keep the price under $100 if possible and he immediately showed me a number of pairs of gloves that met that criteria. I appreciated the customer service since it would have taken me quite a bit of time to sort through the various styles and brands gloves to find the ones that I need. Customer service definitely gets an A+. So why the three star review? The store just seemed cramped and the selection left a lot to be desired. I wanted to look a few different mesh jackets since it was right in the middle of the hot summer season at the time. They had a bunch of cheap Bilt jackets in a variety of colors, but only one other mesh Alpinestars jacket with the only color in stock being black. The Alpinestars jacket was actually the one I was scouting out online, but I don't like to ride in black due to safety reasons. They offered to order it in a different color for me, but I declined since I knew I could order it for a cheaper price on Revzilla and also get reward points back as part of the purchase. There is definitely value in shopping for motorcycle gear in a bricks and mortar store vs online because fit is generally very important for most riders. I think most people don't mind paying a few bucks more for their gear in order to avoid the hassle of shipping stuff back and forth to an online retailer due to sizing issues. I just wish this place has a better selection of more name brand gear rather than a ton of the Bilt junk that they stock everywhere. read more

All of a sudden, my 2007 GSX-R 600 won't start.. barely cranks, the display is dimmed like there's a low power supply, and when I press the ignition it cranks.. I figured i'd try and give the battery a little juice. I called Ron, he said bring the battery down. I dropped it off with him, he tested it and it was low around 10ohms, normally supposed to be around 13-14. After 3 hours, I came back.. he had plugged it into his trickle charger for free, he re-tested it and it was 11.5/12, still low.. crappy battery! I took it home, installed it and the bike still won't start :( don't know whats wrong, when I press the ignition my bike dies! the electrical system dies and it won't fire. FAIL. either way, Ron helped me out and charged my battery for free, nice guys! read more

I was looking for a reasonably price pair of boots and Cycle Gear was the only place that really had them. It's a plus when a retailer has the things that you are looking for. However, the service was so-so. I was greeted when I came in, though the chap that greeted me really didn't seem too happy to do it. I did get some help after shuffling through the inventory for a few minutes. The gent was nowhere to be found after that. At the end, a half-hearted "thanks" after I purchased my boots. I've lived in Pleasanton for a long time and was very excited to have a local motorcycle shop. When they first opened I was less than pleased with their customer service and selection of merchandise...granted it is a small store. However, my most recent experiences have completely changed my mind. I went in to buy a complete set of gear as mine was showing its age. I probably could have been upsold on an expensive set of leathers, but I wasn't. And the set I was sold is quite nice. They even let me stay past closing time to make sure I had what I needed. After taking the gear home, I noticed the jacket was missing one of the armor pads. I went back and they said they thought they had seen that particular pad around behind the desk somewhere, but rather than have me wait until they found it, they just gave me one out of another jacket. Nice! A few weeks later I was riding home from a nice Sunday ride and the zipper on the front of my jacket popped open then the zipper slider just fell off! So, I rode 30 miles back to the shop one-handed while holding my jacket closed with the other hand (it was cold out). I pulled up to the shop after they had closed and the doors were locked. But as one of the staff was letting someone out, he asked me what I needed and told me to come on in and they'd get me taken care of. They had another jacket my size, and just replaced it on the spot. Double Nice! I am usually VERY unimpressed with most customer service in retail environments these days. After my first couple poor experiences there, I had decided to stop shopping there. But, their proximity to my home was too close not to reconsider. I'm glad I did. They got me right to something in my range of price but then I was a kid in a candy store and bought all kinds of stuff! Chris said it happens sometimes as it goes with the biz. Really pissed. Drive from Modesto to pick up a online reserved helmet priced at 105 and when I arrived he had both helmets were priced with a red tag 80 dollars each. Store manager Jesse couldn't honor price because he said it was a mistake and he had all fox helmets in that color for that price. He got so upset that he slammed a helmet on the counter. Keep in mind I was with my mother and my two daughter. This guy should get fired for his lack on professionalism and customer service. I won't step foot at cycle gear again thanks Jesse! read more

I don't know how anyone has had a bad experience here. Only time I can think of is if they didn't have something go their way. I've come here several times, and always gotten amazing customer service. James has always been a great help, and Sterling (I think he spells it differently) helped me a great ton when I came in after getting my permit to buy some gear. Big shout out to Taylor, who really took the time to make sure I understood what I needed to fix up my brother-in-law's old 2006 Ninja 636. I wish I had gone to this location first before going to the san jose one to buy my first set of gear. Granted I only came here to return some things I bought online, but their customer service here is much better and their staff are friendlier. Best of all, the atmosphere is much more relaxed, as in if you need help they'll be happy to help, if not go ahead and cruise the store yourself and try things on (no pressure, no salesperson following you around). In San Jose, I felt like some (not all) the salespeople were just trying to earn commission on higher priced products. And I don't even know if they work on commissions... but at this store, this wasn't the case. I will give a minus 1 star for a lacking in small sized gloves and some other apparel. Some people are just smaller built and its unfortunate they don't accommodate us folks a bit a better. read more

Cycle gear is a great store with all the best motorcycle stuff you can want. Its really the only non Harley gear store there is except online. Only thing is if you order tires and get them mounted and balanced you might get the run around. I understand people are short staffed these days however it's taken cycle gear an extra week to get my tires put on the rim. First they say Monday no problem but then all ve of a sudden it became Friday then Saturday then Monday I missed a really good ride that I had been planning on for a month. Also I commute on my bike. Mostly the service there has been excellent but when I try to get my tires done they're always short staffed the only really negative to the store. Don't offer the service if you cant do it. I feel like there holding my tires hostage. Would be a real pain in the ass to go grab everything and take it somewhere else to get it done THANKS cycle gear !!! read more

I just purchase a Sur Ron X (electric powered hybrid between dirt bike and electric mountain bike); my first motorized two wheeler. I still have a lot of learning and research to look forward to, which is why I initially planned on coming into Cycle Gear to just look around and get a feel for the products out there (helmets, gloves, jackets, etc.). Upon walking in, my girlfriend and I were greeted immediately by VINNIE, who asked me a few questions and quickly ascertained why I was coming in. He brought me over to the helmets and educated me on the range of products offered and helped me quickly narrow down what I was looking for. He did the same thing with gloves. All the while, he was extremely friendly and was cracking jokes left and right, which made the whole experience more than easy but actually enjoyable. He told me about the products, answered all of my questions, and then gave me some time and space to think about and try the products. I bought a helmet and set of gloves and feel good about my purchase. I was in and out in 20 minutes, and now I can check two of the most important items off of my shopping list. This as other customers have said used to be a good store. I don't know if the management has changed or what? But my brother has been a lifetime customer and friend of the old owner he must not be there or the management changed because I did not get any sort of treatment as I am accustomed to you. On when I was younger I was nationally ranked we used to call it formula one which is now Moto GP. I spent so much money in the stores back in the day before the existence of the Internet and one shop buying but after my recent experiences with the product quality and customer service and the fact that I called right now because I have a flat tire my tires I have to order and I asked if they had a used tire and they told me that I could not have a used tire that they throw them away that's awesome as I used to be able to get a tire and mount it myself in a pinch like this but that was when cycle gear was a place where you could get gear for your motorcycle not a place to waste your money. I recently bought and then returned full length top chest protector from fox from cycle gear it was garbage it was falling apart I returned it and bought one off wish.com for $18 to best one I've ever had it's got a little stem loops that hold your pads in place the fox didn't have wish.com blues cycle gear out of the water thank you this is my review read more

I have just picked up a brand new AGV helmet from this place. No matter what the other people say, I really like this store. First of all, Rae is the nicest girl I have ever met who is working at mortorcycle gear stores. I am assuming she is nice to any customer. I have never seen she showed uncomfortable expression to riders. She is smiley, friendly, patient even if I took time to choose stuff and most importantly "smart". She can handle multiple customers at the same time without any trouble. Ron. This big guy is extremely sharp. He is very knowledgable regarding the products they carry and can provide the information you need. I think this word is appropriate "reliable". The quality of the store is determined by the people working there. I always think if the sales people are excellent, you will like the store and even the product. If Ron helps you and Rae smiles at you, you may become happy for a whole week as I do. read more

Piss poor customer service, even worse selection. Save yourself the frustration (and some money) and buy from Revzilla.com. Had a bad experience at this location about 5 months ago. Fast forward to 2 days ago, I decided to give them another shot and went in to look at gloves. I don't like glove shopping online because I'm very picky about fit. They have rack after rack of their generic garbage brands like Bilt and Sedici, but just a couple gloves from any real brands. I was helped by a girl named Rae, the only bright spot in this review. She was super friendly, super helpful, and super patient. I tried on most of the non-generic gloves they had and she never seemed annoyed by the time I was taking. Nothing really fit right, so she suggested that I go online, see what looked good, and call her back so she could bring them in for me to try on. Awesome!!! Called back today and Justin answered the phone. Asked for Rae and he refused to tell me when she'd be available. Huh? So I explained what I needed and he said he won't bring in anything without payment. These are common gloves that are in stock on cycle gear website, we're not talking about a rare item special order. Then he said I'd have to pay for them first - in person at the store. I told him that was the opposite of what I'd been told, and he just said that Rae was new and didn't know the policy. If the store doesn't stock even a basic selection, and I have to pay just to try on items that ought to be in store, there is absolutely no reason to put up with their lousy customer service and attitudes. read more

I just was riding Livermore Valley and Mines Road on a perfect Thursday afternoon, the day before the 4th of July weekend. I usually ride old bikes but this year I saved enough to buy my dream bike, a new BMW Urban GS 1200. The bike now has less than 2500 miles and with COVID-19 has kept me locked up at home. I have been getting ready to to do a 3000 mile solo adventure in a few weeks which I as super excited to do. Anyway, coming back on 580 highway I thought I would stop in to Cycle Gear in Pleasaton off Hopyard to get some bigger soft bags and a few extra things. As I pulled off the freeway, I ran over two long sheetrock screws which deflated my rear tire within a fast minute. I was really lucky ans pulled into Cycle gear with as the last whisper of air left the wheel. To my suprise and good fortune, there was a smiling cycle gear employee assisting a shopper out with a few larger things they had purchased. He noticed I was bewildered standing over my bike. Immedately he recognized I had a flat tire and began to help me. He found the screws and holes in the tire and marked them with a sharpie. Then he left returning within a minute with another employee, Deigo. Deigo informed me that the tire mounting service was down but could do first aid to my tire with 2 tire patches that they sel to get me back home to alameda nearly 20 miles awayl. Deigo did nearly everly thing from with some help by me in the Cycle Gear motorycle parking lot right outside the door. Within 20 minutes - my tire was sealed, wheel filled to full pressure and paid my les than 7 dollar bill. I rode around the store neighborhood for nealy a half hour testing the seal. It held and I was able to ride home safely down a fast moving freeway back home. I have been riding for nearly 35 years in the bay area. This is without a doubt one of the best motorcycle parts and service I have ever recieved. I never write reviews but this is an exception. What great service with such great people. In the next days I plan on buying all the other things I need from this store for my big ride. Cycle Gear has earned another very loyal customer. Thank you again Cycle Gear Pleasanton! read more

My 2014 Ducati is my car and commute vehicle. So I figure I'm a fairly avid motorcyclist. I really don't understand all the negative comments on here. When I need chemicals, changing my wheel's tires (with ones I previously own), something quick like a motorcycle ramp, or am looking for a decent deal on an extra helmet--that's when I walk into Cycle Gear. Not when I'm looking for internal parts replacement, not to find that perfect pair of gloves, not to buy new tires, not when I'm upgrading parts on my bike to last, but when I need a "something" and needed it yesterday and I'm probably going to replace that "something" with a better "something" in the future. I've always viewed this place as the True Value of motorcycle shops. But I've never received anything other than genuinely helpful treatment. Thanks guys! read more

They had a mix of "cruiser biker" and "sport biker" gear. I.E. leathers AND textile fabric wear. Their selection of gloves is large and consists of a mix of cruiser and sport bike styles, same with their jackets. I went in for a tail bag for a sport bike, they only had one made of technical fabric (A.K.A. cordura) and it was rather small, they had SEVERAL cordura tank bags though. There were a couple of HUGE tail bags that were obviously for a cruiser/Harley. The customer service.. well.. I wasn't greeted as I entered, I spent 30 minutes wandering the merchandise trying to find what I was looking for and was NEVER addressed. Finally I took the tail bag I had found and asked if he had any other tail bags that size to which he replied "that's the smallest one I have" HELLO!? That's not what I asked, I asked if you had any others the same size because I think the quality of this one SUCKS. (I didn't say that though, I just smiled and realized he didn't care about me as a customer) Then I asked for a plate to go under the kick stand for when you're parking on a soft surface (it keeps the bike from falling over when the ground is soft). He ran to the back of the store (me following) grabbed one off the shelf and handed it to me in an annoyed fashion then hurried back up to the register. I did not like my customer service experience here at all. Thankfully the tail bag worked out OK and seems to be of acceptable quality. I'm not sure I'll go back here, you might get what you need if you know what it is and can find it yourself... BUT who knows.. maybe he was having a bad day *shrug* well all have those. read more

This is a decent place to find much of your needs. They have most chemicals, tires, helmets and riding apparel. Many times the check out counter is clogged with freshly mounted tires or other merchandise. Unfortunately, they don't carry some of the stuff I use to work on the bike, but I can always find something I need. read more

The store seems crammed with stuff, but strangely not a lot to choose from. More like a motorcycle's General Store. I saw a lot of Bilt, Dainese and Shoei. No Arai helmets, no Icon helmets or gear, and only a few Alpinestars gloves and boots. The staff is great though. The cute short-haired lesbian with piercings is very helpful. It's a great place to try on things and find your size. If they don't have something, you can order it.. and if you don't like it.. or it doesn't fit, they will keep it and not penalize you. This seems like a pretty decent place to get your motorcycle gear, including the top brand name items. From Shoei to Alpine Stars to Fox to Arai, they have a decent selection and a pretty deep inventory. I came in here not as a biker, but as a browser, and the people were still pretty friendly to me. My buddy though, who I came in here with and was a biker, seemed impressed by the people as well. So if I was a biker or if I needed to buy a biker a present, this is where I would go. read more

Nice people that work there. It seems that they have moved away from some of their off road gear and selling a lot more of the "Bilt" line of products. Customer service is good, they will spend time with you if needed. My last Fox helmet purchase was a good experience. They didn't try to push the latest on me. They asked what I was looking for in a dirt bike helmet and were able to save me money on a previous year Fox. All in all I'm pretty good with this place. read more

Mark has helped me with many merchandise purchases wether it be Moto maintenance related, Apparel, Tires, amd accessories. I havent been satisfied in Cycle gear customer service at any other locations throughout Northern California, Southern California, and Arizona until I have been to this Pleasanton location. I want to give a shout out to this cycle gear location and justin in particular. I brought in my wheels and tires for a tire change, as a cold call walk in (my phone is broken). Justin said he would start immediately and only interrupt himself if he was needed at the counter. 1/2 hour later the job was done. and it was done so well...he pointed out details to me that I haddnt known of in my 45 years of motorcycle riding. pricewise...its the usual. he even carried one of my wheels out to the car for me this was my first time @ cycle gear and I have no reason to go anywhere else in the futuree read more
