My husband and I found our way to D'amore's Famous Pizza after a beach day in Malibu and after recently finishing Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars show. We are big pizza fans and have pretty pretty high expectations as we are still on the hunt for some great New York style pizza here in SoCal. We weren't really sure how high to set the bar with this place, but we were intrigued enough to give them a try. This shop in particular is extremely small and is really made for ordering, however, there are plenty of tables outside that are shared by the other businesses for patrons to enjoy their food. Service was efficient and helpful. The staff were able to get our slices out quickly and even brought out our slices to us once they were done being prepared/warmed up. In terms of the food, we were happy! My husband may have been the biggest doubter, but he was extremely pleased with our food stating the pizza was probably one of the closest to NY style he's had here in SoCal. As briefly noted above, this location of D'amore's Famous Pizza is an intimate space on the first floor of the shopping center. There is also a Pavillion's grocery store nearly adjacent to the shopping center. There was plenty of free parking shared among the businesses. Our order consisted of: - 2 Cheese slices - 1 Hawaiian slice - 1 Combination slice - an order of garlic knots. Loved the balance of sauce to cheese ratio. Loved their sauce flavor even more. Ingredients tasted fresh and of good quality. The crust was thin and crispy on the bottom, just the way we love it. The garlic knots were a good, warm, soft texture. I wouldn't classify them as east coast style, but they were very tasty! I can never decide on just one pizza flavor, so I get a few slices of sorts and I love their baked ziti with eggplant...so good! This pizza shop is in a strip mall on PCH. This strip mall and many others are owned by a close friend of mine. And that's how I learned about this pizza place. Right across from the ocean. So looking out, you do hear the roar of the vehicles :( Nonetheless, still amaze balls view while snacking on pizza :) a better vantage point view is if you take the elevator to the rooftop where there are several tables and chairs to sit outdoor, eat drink and enjoy the PACIFIC ocean views. Like some other places in Malibu, this particular spot does NOT offer WIFI and even if you have cellular internet, reception is poor and patchy, which is why you can't check in. I tried many ways to correct that manually, and can't. The owners of all businesses and this pizza place should offer wifi!. My daughter and I went to D'Amore's Pizza in Malibu today to celebrate the Labor Day weekend. D'Amore's sells pizza by the slice and it's fantastic. I must admit, I didn't actually understand what Labor Day was all about. I have a strong affinity for the troops, and fond memories of members of my own family who served, so I assumed that Labor Day (despite it being right there in the name) was somehow meant to honor the military's important contribution to our nation. Men like my Uncle Lucius who served during the Korean War in the fifties as a member of the U.S. Army Preserves - an elite culinary squad that prepared jams and jellies for the troops - until an allergy to fruit pectin unceremoniously ended his military career. Or my father, who did two tours in Viet Nam as a Navy corpsman. His younger brother, Drew, wanted to enlist during the war but he had a foot condition that kept him stateside. His condition was apparently the opposite of flat feet, whereby the arches of Drew's feet were so exaggerated that he could only fit into tasteful women's high-heeled shoes. Poor fella. However, I'm still not clear on why he favored elaborately-designed women's kaftans. I'll have to ask his partner - my Aunt Carl. I ordered a Meat Lover's slice and my daughter had a Grilled Veggie slice. We Googled "Labor Day" while we waited for our pizza and learned quite a lot. It turns out that thousands of American men and women have been fighting on a very different front since the earliest days of our country - a fight for justice on behalf of working Americans. The labor union movement in the United States hasn't always been inclusive, nonetheless, it secured positive rights that we all take for granted today - like not working weekends, workplace safety, the 40-hour work week, child labor laws, sick days and paid time off. The pizza was ready, so we took our paper plates to two different locations within the shopping plaza to find just the right backdrop to photograph our lunch for social media (apparently, it's something the kids do now). We then put our phones away to enjoy our slices. As usual, we weren't disappointed. D'Amore's consistently provides high quality pizza that is always served fresh and, importantly, hot enough to allow sufficient time to photograph our food in at least two separate though aesthetically cohesive on-site locations without getting cold. After a hike nearby we were looking for somewhere to eat and came across this littler shopping center. I was so excited to see that they have vegan cheese!!! We ordered the grilled vegetable pizza with vegan cheese and it was perfect. Thin crust, flavorful veggies, and the best part - we didn't have to wait long. It took about 10 minutes or so for our order to come out which was just enough time to go try some ice cream flavors at a shop a few doors down. They also sell pizza by the slice which seemed to be very popular but if you want vegan cheese you have to order a full pizza. Pizza Margarita is served with raw cold cut up tomatoes. Not what I expected on a hot pizza. In addition this place charges you a $5 fee without even alerting you for "service fee". When I spoke to cashier the fee goes to owner not employees. (Even the cashier mentioned that they have asked the owner to not do that as it pushes people to not tip) I did not agree to this charge and if notified I would've walked out and gone to the cafe instead. Seriously... no thanks. Never coming back here. Also refund me the service fee I did not agree to. Ive called your store and you the owner refuse to address it. In Malibu for the weekend I stopped here for their grilled veggie pizza and really loved it! Service was great, the pizzas are made to order and take about 20 minutes which is well worth it! You can taste the quality ingredients in the dough, cheese, sauce and toppings. Prices can get high for the smaller pizzas, I ordered a large and it was plenty for two meals and with that a great value.
