Swung by for a weekday meal with a coworker shortly after landing. D4 was easy to get a seat with a view of games of interest. Service was quick and friendly. We were hungry and didn't have to wait from order to drinks, soups, and entrees. You might not think of Irish Pubs for French Onion, but it was tasty. Less surprising was the (good) quality of the fish and chips.

D4 was just what we needed on a cold blizzardy night! The space is beautiful and our server was so kind and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and give us suggestions. We started with the poutine which was enough for our group of 6. It was delicious, so flavorful and lots of gravy! I had the shepherds pie and it was also very very good. I enjoyed a hugo spritz with my meal with was also very yummy. Great experience, we would all 100% eat here again!

Amazingly delicious, love a good Irish pub feel with a pint of guinness to throw back with some great food. I wish I didn't have to share the poutine it was so good. The D4 burger was cooked perfectly, and the pretzel bun it was served on was the best I've ever had. Our server gave great recommendations and was always there to help! It was so cozy in the little area we were sat in.

I've lived in the Streeterville area for almost 6 years and this was my first visit to this gem? It was epic! Met my friends here. Juliana was our server. She was friendly, attentive and on point! It was a special occasion and she brought it. We all ordered the fish and chips. They are famous for it, as I'm told. I can see why. Huge cod filets in perfect batter. Crispy exterior and moist fresh & tender filet of cod on inside. Fries were more than perfect. Coleslaw was good but cut back on the carrots. Also, not crazy about their version of tartar sauce. Luckily, the fish needed no tartar sauce. I'm not a fried food person, but I would make an exception for D4 again and again. Thank you for a great meal and extremely amazing service from Juliana. I will ask for her table every time.

We specifically went there for an Irish Breakfast and was not disappointed. I was even able to have a good pot of tea. Set us up for a day of exploring. The folks there were lovely and the service was great. We got there at opening and it was very quiet. By the time we left some folks had started to come in to watch soccer on the tvs.

Overall this place is good! Great service and pretty clean. I'm not sure about parking as I walked here. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. They have great drink options that mix beers and liquor or mix ciders with liquor. Love when places offer that on the menu! The Brussel sprouts were good but could've been a little crispier. The fries/curry chips we got were loaded fries and had coconut curry, cilantro, sour cream etc. they could've been really good but they lacked toppings. But I liked the idea of coconut and curry together on fries. Overall I would still come back!!

Had brunch here this morning with my friends, and when we walked in the place was empty. I was a little bit nervous, knowing that this is Chicago and there were not many people in the restaurant. By the time we left, the restaurant was packed and I can see why. I had the huevos rancheros and oh my God they were so good. The eggs were cooked perfectly and I save every bite I had until my meal was complete. When I was finished, I wish I had more. If you get the fish and chips, it is a huge portion so you could easily split it with two people. It was crispy in outside with flaky inside. Definitely too must have for brunch. We made reservations, so it was nice to have. In the summer I can see this place being packed and their bar seemed to be a popular spot as we walked out after brunch.

    Lunch special

D4 was such a gem not far from the river and we were pleasantly surprised that there was a lunch special! For $14 we all good half a sandwich and our choice of soup, fries or a salad. I chose the Caesar salad and Turkey BLT which were both spectacular. I loved the sourdough bread that came with the sandwich. My friends got the soup of the day (potato and bacon) and another got the French onion soup. Both were great!

Well this was a pleasant surprise! March '25 - after walking through some sleet and snow I entered D4 and grabbed a spot at the bar. I was immediately greeted by Marco and poured a nice drink. Within minutes, I was served some incredible chicken noodle soup! You can tell this was homemade - it absolutely hit the spot on a chilly night. After some pleasant conversation I opted to take a sandwich back to my hotel. Marco advised me to swap the bun for a pretzel roll. Boy am I glad he did! The sandwich was excellent - my apologies for not sharing a photo. Overall I found this to be a very comfortable spot with high quality food and service.

This place is the perfect upscale Irish bar. I came for happy hour and the menu is very reasonable. They really know what they're doing with a pint of Guinness. I got the chips and salsa which were a little spicy to my untrained palate.

Overall great dining experience at D4! The chicken tenders are to die for. Brussels sprouts didn't miss either. Waiters were very attentive and service was quick to get out food and drink orders. Recommend a bit more seasoning on the fries. Other than that, you'll see me back soon!! Great spot for a casual drink or bite to eat. They also accommodate larger parties. Very cozy feel in the winter with an indoor fireplace and bookshelves with books! Also doesn't hurt that they have a few games streaming around the place!

Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short. Getting into the bar requires walking down a very steep staircase, which seems like it could be a safety concern, especially during the winter. I had planned on ordering food, but the smell and overall atmosphere changed my mind. The staff were great, but because of the cleanliness concerns and layout, I wouldn't return.

Toward the end of the night, two of my friends left, and the remaining two of us paid our bill and were finishing our drinks while waiting for our Uber. At that point, the bartender came over and told us she needed our table for a large group. The table wasn't reserved, and we were clearly just finishing up. We told her we were about to leave anyway, but the way it was handled felt really abrupt and rude. What made it worse was that she immediately brought a group over to take our table, and even they were apologizing to us because they seemed uncomfortable with how it was handled. I've worked in bars and restaurants myself, so I completely understand needing to manage space, but there's a way to do it respectfully, and this wasn't it. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression, and despite having been here multiple times before, I won't be returning.

We ordered the venison burger and, honestly, I was hesitant at first because I was worried it might be too gamey. After we sat down, our server took her sweet time getting to us and was largely absent the entire visit while the servers for the others tables were attentive and present as I've come to expect. We started with the Crispy Brussels and Burrata Toast which was an amazing and fun combination of flavors textures with the sherry glaze and pickled onions providing a perfect counter to the richness of the cheese. Our second course was the Gage Caesar which we've had before and have enjoyed sharing multiple times, but this time the lettuce was full of grit as if the prep chef did not even bother washing the lettuce. The server never came by to check on us so I had to wave the manager to complain about the salad. The server also never checked to see if we wanted refills on our cocktails so we placed our orders with the manager. The final dish was the venison burger which was perfectly cooked and seasoned if you like venison, which I do so we enjoyed that greatly. The condiments that came with it were perfectly matched to balance the game of the meat and the fries were perfect as usual! The server then FINALLY got more involved with our dinner and was predictably perky and present at the end, something that always irks me when they have been otherwise absent for the meal. The ONLY reason they are getting 3 stars instead of less for this visit was the flavor of the food and the response of the manager in dealing with the lack of service (and the gritty salad). I would give the initial server a zero if I could.
