Just left here after visiting with my new friends from work. We were at another bar but I don't like to sit that long and so I found this place nearby on Yelp and my friends begrudgingly (DAVID) followed me here. At first I thought I led them to a hotel bar because it's below this seemingly expensive apartment building with a nice courtyard. It isn't a hotel bar though. This dude Peter bought us 3 Malört shots the second we sat down (lit) and he was with an older gentleman, three moms on a big night out, and a married couple. Got together with family late afternoon on New Years Eve for an early dinner & drinks and was surprised it was only half-full. Black & tans were tasty & well-poured, and the food was very good. We had a variety of different orders & everyone was complimentary & well-satisfied. Service was friendly and very good, the bar/restaurant had an upscale ambiance with various Irish adornments (I wonder how crowded it gets for Notre Dame game viewing). Lovely, upscale pub atmosphere with friendly servers and good food. Prices are what you'd expect for the area. I came with a group before seeing a movie at AMC and we had the poutine, sliders, curry fries and pot pie. There are some great beers on the menu, like Smithwick's, which can sometimes be hard to find. I had a whiskey flight that was nice and I really liked the sliders (I ordered one of each and liked all three options equally.) Everyone in my group was happy and we'd all come back and would recommend D4 to others. read more

Such a great place to come for lunch. First of all they have very generous portions. I ordered a "small plate" of the short rib nachos, and it was big enough to split between 2-3 people. The nachos were loaded with toppings and filled with flavor. I've also had their reuben which had a whole pound of corned beef! The reuben had a light amount of 1000 island so I added a little more to my sandwich. They provide you with a tiny jar of mustard in case you'd like to add that as well. Despite the sandwich already being filling, it comes with a side of salad or fries. Warm and cozy atmosphere with gracious staff. The booths inside are very comfy. We stumbled in off the street with no reservation. The place was packed and they seated us immediately. Our order was simple, a plate of fries for the table, some nachos which I thought were going to be beef tips (bite sized, partially charred), but it was actually like a slow-roasted beef, in pieces much too large to eat without using a fork (so silly for nackos lol). And after the experience at this last visit i will think twice before picking D4 again. Not sure why it would be worth picking a fight with your customer over something as little as whether the ice cream that comes with the kids meal is per meal or per child. But the waiter decided to give us a hard time about it when asked. We ordered three kids meals for two kids at his recommendation since he thought it would not be enough for my son... when they brought us two ice creams and we asked if we would get a third... the attitude was just unbelievable. And after much huffing and puffing he decided to bring us the ice cream but placed it in a to-go box and threw the bag on the table and walked away. Clearly not happy about having to bring us that third ice cream. Seriously?! It's the principle of it. Say so on your menu then. But that attitude we got was just not worth it. Do you really want your customers leaving your restaurant feeling so wronged and so disrespected? Well if that's the case then mission accomplished. read more

This place is a bit underrated. The ratings aren't great on yelp but I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this place. The name gives the impression that it's a causal bar environment however D4 actually has a nice slightly upscale ambiance. I came here for dinner and was seated in an area past the bar. I thought the decor was really charming with beautiful chandeliers and books lining one of the walls. They start you off with free bread which was quite good. I ordered the Carribean Jerk fish tacos ($16) which are listed as "small plates" but this dish is not small by any means. It comes with 3 tacos and is very filling. I thought the Mahi mahi fish was really good and tender. The other fillings in the tacos were delicious and creative. Some of the things I didn't like was the taco part itself was fried and thick - I prefer softer tacos. Also I think the tacos were a bit dry and also could've used more flavor. But overall I would recommend them. We also got a side of sweet potato fries ($6) which were amazing - so crispy! These are some of the best sweet potatoes fries I've ever had plus the aioli that comes with it is delicious! Portions here are quite large. Service was quite good - our waitress was really sweet and attentive. I don't think you necessarily need reservations. We came during prime time on a Friday evening and the place was busy but they still had seating available. read more

Location is very good, the patio area is nice but too small. Nice views of the courtyard that connects both Golub high rises. My wife and I split the Large dish of the Fish and Chips. Tasty and hot right out the fryer, however the batter was WAY TOO THICK, and as a result it was crispy on the edges but SOGGY on the inside. Maybe next time I'll just ask them to go light on the batter, not sure if that would be a problem for them to make it that way but I sure will ask next time. The cole slaw was off from what we are used to, it tasted a little on the expired side (or maybe they just changed the recipe) one or the two. The French fries were excellent and just the way we like them (not over cooked and just the right amount of salt). We come here often but it had been a while since we last ordered the fish and chips. We do like the fact that they give us a 10%discount with the neighborhood discount card from Golub Connect. Although other places do 15%, but it's nice to have a little kick back for supporting our neighbors. read more

After coming here for years, this place continues to be on my regular restaurant rotation list, especially this year for takeout. My to go orders are always packaged nicely and the staff here have been superb. My favorites are their D4 burger and shepherds pie. They provided a good portion of tenders. The breading tasted crispy-thick, which is usually a bland crumbly taste more often. This seemed a bit the same, but fair nonetheless. The chicken itself wasn't a juicy as I'd have hoped, but they provided three sauces which placed more taste to the touch. The fries were pretty bad though and i ended up not finishing them as a result. I've definitely tasted better tenders but they weren't awful. May be better off ordering a burger though. read more

Went for brunch on a Sunday morning, just happened upon their "now serving brunch" sign. It wasn't very busy. We were greeted and sat immediately. Our waiter came within minutes and was very nice and competent (even though he was new, he warned us ). I have to admit I was a little skeptical of an Irish pub for brunch, but ended up pleasantly surprised. Our waiter kept our nice cold waters filled. They offered bottomless mimosas or bellinis for $20 WITH an entree purchase (i.e. if you order it YOU must order an entree). Lots of other interesting brunch cocktails on the menu as well. Our waiter soon brought complimentary mini scones with butter, which were yummy. The food menu had most of the usual brunch fare. I opted for the homemade corned beef hash and eggs and it was very very good. It came with two eggs, the hash, toast and some fried potatoes, which were perfection - kinda like thick potato chips, but soft in the middle. Soooo good.
