    Ube waffle was good
    Edith S.

Sisters and I vacayed on Kauai a couple of weeks back. During one of our leisurely day of exploring, we wanted breakfast. For a more local like experience, I searched for ube and ube waffle came up from the Da Reef Cafe. Perfect as it was in our way to the north side of the island. It was a rainy morning and we were lucky to grab the last spot. Customer service was so sweet. Love the ladies here. And so very helpful. Food delicious, especially the ube waffle. Fried was ono. Omelettes were good. And the best part, free live music. I guess. The musician in t-shirt, shirts and slippahs had a bar seat waiting for him right at the counter and he sat there and happily shared his talent with all the diners. And it was raining. Nice that the umbrellas were big enough to cover the four of us on the only outdoor patio dining. For sure I would come back.

We had breakfast here and absolutely loved it. They have a very nice patio with plenty of tables and umbrellas. We ordered a BLT, 2 Breakfast Be to Boxes and the veggie omelette. Everything was excellent especially the fried rice which is always my favorite. The staff are soooooo incredibly sweet, funny and friendly. We highly recommend this spot and we will definitely be back!

Came here based on last year's experience. Didn't disappoint. Staff is friendly. Business is clean and food is reasonably priced. Food is also delicious.

Da Reef Cafe is an order and takeout eatery. The ambiance is a grab and go. There is only outdoor seating. The service is very good, and the aunty taking the order is very nice and friendly. She makes you feel like you're at her home. The breakfast items we selected were excellent. Everything was prepared and cooked to perfection. Not a single item was overcooked. For the Breakfast Bento, the Portuguese sausage was slightly crisp on the outside, and very tender throughout. The scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy. The fried rice was tasty and flavorful. I really enjoyed this selection. The Açaí breakfast bowl was very refreshing with the various textures of crunch, creaminess, and fruit flavors. A very delicious and healthy breakfast. The corned beef omelette was the special for the day. The corned beef was NOT canned, but made with real corned beef and onions. Very delicious. Every item we ordered tasted great. The only comment that we had was with the Breakfast Bento. Even though the food was excellent, the quantity you get for the price did not match. The bento is small, and the price should match the quantity. If the items were put on a plate as in a restaurant, you would able to see the difference. That said, I would still recommend giving Da Reef Cafe a visit for breakfast. The service is great and aunty will make you feel at home.

We loved everything about this place. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly which started off the experience quite well. The eggs bene with fresh banana bread, pog, and the biscuits and gravy were all amazing. Do yourself a favor and stop here!

    Classic Açaí Bowl

I got an açaí bowl here and I really enjoyed it. The food was ready quickly and it was good. The prices here were decent. However, they did make part of one of our orders incorrectly.

We came to this location twice to get our morning food and coffee before exploring the island. I HIGHLY recommend online ordering!! The first time was a long wait out the door, ordering with staff at the counter was friendly and quick. You will get your hockey puck pager and return to pickup when paged. The second time we did online ordering, we almost did not return because of the crowd, but online ordering was easy and pickup was SOO much nicer. They are crowded because the food, coffee and staff are soo good. It is located on the main road with limited parking, there are inside and outside seating, but it is crowded. Bathrooms can get a little overwhelming, but they were clean and maintained in this older building. DO COME, but ORDER ONLINE.

No xbloom pour-overs being served, so I settled for pre-made drip. The barista was friendly enough but couldn't tell me anything about the coffees on her own menu -- origin, roast, process, nothing. She recommended a mac nut latte for my partner, which felt less like a recommendation and more like the only thing she was sure of. The drip came out fast and hot. That's the last nice thing I have to say. The latte comes from a second window, where a different employee was actively hostile. Busy morning, so I asked if the drink was mine. She snapped that my name was written on the cup. It was -- facing her. I was apparently supposed to read it through the cup. Here's the real problem: someone clearly put thought into the roasting side of this business, and then handed the entire customer-facing operation to people who received no training whatsoever. Not in the coffee, not in basic hospitality. You can teach someone to smile. You can teach them to answer a question without contempt. Nobody bothered. Average coffee, worse service, priced for people who won't be back anyway -- and given the volume of visitors, that model probably works fine for them. It won't work for me. Kauai has cafés run by people who are genuinely obsessed with what they're doing. Go find one of those. Serious coffee drinkers should walk right past this place.

Popular menu items include ahi katsu 10/10, chili pepper chicken 9/10, and Hawaii's own- loco moco (not a huge fan in general). They offer a variety of other options, including poke, ramen, and sandwiches, with convenient takeout and delivery available. It's definitely a local favorite due to its generous portions, authentic Hawaiian cuisine and friendly service. We ordered the fried chicken and poke combo with wonton chips and the ahi katsu (my absolute fav). The ahi was fried to perfection- crispy on the outside while rare and tender on the inside. The sauce on the katsu was absolutely fire!!! So good! Macaroni salad was creamy and delicious. And the rice was perfect. Obviously, you cannot visit Hawaii without having some of their poke- always fresh and delightfully tasty. The marinade was savory and packed with flavor.

Its right off a main road and you cannot miss it. Parking lot was a bit small, but there was plenty of parking. AMBIANCE: When I went there was plenty of seating. A bit dead, but I also did go pretty early. There were a bunch of decor of older American pop culture like Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, etc. But also Hawaiian themed decor (obviously). SERVICE: You gotta walk up to the front to order. I was approached almost immediately as soon as I walked up to the menu on the screen. The girl working was super friendly and welcoming. I made my order and she gave me a pager for when my food was ready. FOOD: I ordered the chili pepper chicken, which was recommended from the girl at the counter. My friend ordered the ahi katsu. The chili pepper chicken was good! It was crispy and extremely flavorful. It was slightly too salty for my taste, but luckily the rice does help balance it out. Some of the crispness was sacrificed for the sauce, but it was overall still pretty crispy. I loved that they used boneless chicken thigh. I was expecting bones or lots of breading but it actually had a perfect ratio. I wasn't much a fan of the mac salad. It was like a mix of mac and potato salad, but more like a potato salad. I'm not big on potato salad, so that makes sense. My friend's ahi katsu was alright in my opinion. The sauce that's on it was good and enjoyed all the flavors. The tuna was just a bit overcooked to my liking, but idk how else one would make a katsu without overlooking it too much. Maybe bread the fish and freeze it before frying? Idk man, I'm not a chef lol but the tuna would definitely be better if it was less cooked. OVERALL: Honestly, I would still come here again. I still enjoyed the meal and the service was pretty quick. Both items were both worth trying. All the flavors were there and the little things I didn't like were just personal preferences. Its a great place to pick up a lunch plate and enjoy it at the beach.

They were unfortunately out of chicken & pork tamales but we were lucky to try the veggie tamales! The reason for one star taken off was that the avocado toast was missing eggs & the macaroni salad & the fish & chips came without the tartar sauce (wrong sauce given).
