I freaking love Da Spot. They have two locations on UH Manoa campus: one through Sakamaki as a food truck that sells smoothies mainly and some vegan entrees, and the other in Saunders Hall that sells the rest of the entrees. I used to stop by their truck between classes all the time to order my Peanut Butta smoothie. They make that thing thick and the best thing is that it's filling for $3-6. But aside from their yummy smoothies, is their delicious food. Their main location is on S. King St across of Longs Drugs, and honestly sometimes I just park there and walk across. You have the option of getting one to two choices, but really the one choice is just as big. Get the saffron rice--make the most of your visit! I've tried most of their entrees but the ones that are my go-to's are the Coconut Lemon Herb Chicken, the Moroccan Chicken, the Miso Chicken, and the Eggplant Parmesan (in that order). So the menu is finally posted for the Ala Moana location at the Lanai and I was pleasantly surprised to see the maintained the prices and a lot of the menu items they have at their location near university. I like this place because they really differentiate themselves from a lot of restaurants serving pan Mediterranean food. Flavors from Morocco, Egypt, india, etc. all very healthy and flavorful. It reminds me of the diverse culinary adventures I used to find in my hometown of Queens, New York City. They use a wide assortment of spices. Their desserts and smoothies are delicious too. Wanted to eat an açaí bowl and this place was the closest to where I was driving today. So I ordered one and when I got there it was ready and I was back in my car in a few minutes. So here's the review. Wow. It was delicious. Probably one of the best I've even eaten. The granola was a tasty with different seeds in it. Then the bananas. Strawberries and Blueberrys were sweet and fresh. It was refreshing and for sure I'll be back. One thing the plate lunches looked great. It's hard to find places these days that don't break the bank. Da spot's prices are so cheap and you get a lot! I got a "mini" plate but it's what other places would call a "regular." My mini plate came with 2 scoops of rice, yellow curry, side salad. So good! Next time I'm definitely getting the regular for just $2 more. I believe regular also comes with a side (like potato salad...so many options for these!). For my side salad, I got the papaya dressing (they make) and it was soo good. Not too sweet. I am really conflicted updating my review but this is the third time I have ordered thru Bite Squad due to social distancing and the same issues have happened! So I ordered 2 plates of food, paid an extra $2 to have the avocado herb salad. Bite squad called said they were out of avocado salad, no problem I will get the tofu poke instead. About 10 mins later bite squad called again and said they ran out of salad for my second plate and if I preferred the pasta salad instead, okay again no problem. When bite squad came and I opened my food there was no salads at all .. in the plate. Like there is empty slots where the salad would apparently be. I am a chef, I work in kitchens for the past 10 years and have been working with bite squad for the past 3 years. I don't understand how you leave an actual slot in a takeout box empty. Your food is absolutely amazing, but your bite squad communication on what is available is off. I like Da Spot. No, wait, that's an understatement - I REALLY like Da Spot. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for smoothies for a long time, but only at the recommendation of a friend and fellow Yelp Elite did we hear that their food was delicious. The first time we tried their food, I ordered the plate with coconut chicken and saffron rice. I opted for a side salad of avocado and tomatoes instead of the standard romaine that comes with the plate. My boyfriend and I shared a coconut smoothie, and we were in bliss! The second time we ate here, I wanted to order their gyro sandwich, but the counter person told me it would be a 20 minute wait. I couldn't possibly wait, as I was hungry, but I hope to try their sandwiches soon. I got the plate again, but this time with Egyptian Chicken and Thai green curry with chicken. Both were ono! My only qualm is because the spices are exotic, sometimes I end up with a sore stomach later. This, as far as I know, is not a mark of the quality or preparation of the dishes, but rather my stomach's reaction to unfamiliar spices. I've been to da spot a handful of times and always order their açaí bowl. Today my dad and I had ordered a smoothie and a bowl. I was really looking forward to their inexpensive and large bowl but when I ordered it (after waiting about 15 minutes) it came out a lot smaller than normal. I questioned the worker and she said that it always looks like that and that they don't normally serve that much. I asked my friends who also go there quite a bit, and they even said that when they order theirs, it's usually double the size. I was very disappointed in how they could serve this to me, especially when the customer before me had ordered 2 bowls that were almost double the size of mine. I took the bowl and ate it but was also disappointment in finding that there was not a lot of honey and hardly any granola at the top and bottom. I had been craving Mediterranean food for a while now but did not want to spend an arm and a leg on it. For the price, the amount of food and the flavor is quite unbeatable. I got some Thai coconut curry along with a spicy Egyptian-style white fish. It came with a side order of salad and complimentary lemonade or iced tea. The lemonade and ice tea were dissapointingly watered down. However, the curry and fish were so full of flavor and spices. I also enjoyed the saffron rice. The service was great. As it was my first time, I asked the server for some recommendations and she was very helpful. The ambiance is nothing special, just an open garage/shed area essential adjacent to King St. Fair warning, I did have the runs the next day after eating this meal. HOHmg I cannot get enough of Da Spot and I can't believe this Yelp Page is unclaimed! Da Spot takes me back to some fond memories of working with amazing people on our videogame Wao Kanaka. During the entire summer of 2018, Da Spot catered for our cohort (they were conveniently right up the street) and EVERYTHING was amazing. EVERYTHING. In early 2020 before the pandemic news hit I was going there once a week to grab a smoothie and even those are great. I ordered the falafel rolls x2, with double sauce and cheese added. Paid for it, since they made sure they got all items at the register correctly. I got NO sauce and NO cheese. Didn't find out til halfway back over the Pali. I order the Haupia Craze, with lilikoi syrup and mac nuts. The girl kept saying so the haupia sorbet? No, the Haupia craze, with the lilikoi syrup. Oh, so the haupia sorbet with the lilikoi. No, the Haupia Craze....rinse and repeat 2-3 times. When I went to eat later, I discovered...a tub of haupia sorbet with MANGO sorbet topping. Couldn't even get their own mistake right. They did have a reasonable selection for vegans..which I am not, but it's easier to get lacto-veg by looking for vegan food. At first look, it's in a garage, but since it had good reviews on the news, I have been wanting to try this place for a couple of years. Well, it's not fine dining, but It did not disappoint! John helped us, and since it was our first time, he gave us a taste of the different sauces. Thank you, John, that made it so helpful to choose our dishes. The food was flavorful, well seasoned with just the right amount of spice. I like spicy food but the dishes were not hot, just pleasant to eat. Plates come with 2 scoops of rice if you want. I had saffron basmati rice and browm basmati rice. I think there was some wild red rice in it. Whatever it was, it was onolicious. The prices are affordable, more so because of the amount of food we got for our money. We both took home leftovers. I plan to take my husband there next week for lunch. read more

Yesterday was the first time I've been to this spot and I was surprised. We went with my husband's aunty and she's on this ornish diet, which is pretty much like being a vegetarian. So we went to Da Spot thinking that everything would be vegetably kind of food. But it wasn't like that at all. First of all, you have probably passed Da Spot a million times on the road. It's right across the street from Long's in Moilili. I never knew what kind of food they had there and the sign outside didn't really give a clue about it either. Another thing I thought was, oh no, there's no parking there. But actually Da Spot has some spots in a parking lot just down the road. You can park in spots 5-20 in the lot next to Willow's. The food like I said wasn't all vegetables. Sure there was a lot of salads and stuff but they also had a good fair share of meats, chicken, and curry. The place had a whole mix of different kind of cuisines I think. It's categorized as Mediterranean but my husband had thai coconut curry, and they also had miso chicken. I ordered the Egyptian chicken. I'm not sure how to describe the taste, but it was well seasoned and had a lot of flavor. I ordered the regular plate which came out to $8, which is a pretty good deal since they give so much. My husband got he combo plate which was $10 and you get two different items. He got the coconut curry and some spicy chicken. He liked the spicy chicken but didn't like the coconut curry. He said that it was too coconutty for him. I also noticed that they had 36 different types of smoothies so I decided to try one. I got the Da Kine smoothie and it was really good. It was pretty reasonable priced also. It was $3.00. Overall Da Spot was an interesting experience and I might try it again because the prices are reasonable, but it really was a place out of my comfort zone. I'm not a big fan of Mediterranean food, as I've had two bad experiences at two other Mediterranean restaurant, but to my big surprise.............I really enjoyed my grindz when my coworkers suggest we go to "Da Spot" in the Moiliili neighborhood for lunch today! Where is Da Spot located? If you know where the Longs Drugs (Moiliili Branch) is, Da Spot is just across the street (on South King Street). There is free parking available, just look for the big yellow sign on Hausten Street (see pic). The parking lot is just before the Willows Restaurant area. After parking my car, my coworkers & I just took a short hop, skip, & jump to Da Spot. Upon entering the establishment, you basically walk up to the counter to order your food after looking at the wall menu, or checking out the pre-made hot foods that were available for the day. There is no table service, so it's basically order you food, pay at the counter, then look for an open table to sit & eat. Don't worry gang, the restaurant is pretty spacious, so finding an open table during lunch was not an issue, although they were quite busy today. I could see that they had a lot of foot traffic, so a lot of people just came in to do take out. After looking at the pre-made hot food items, I decided to get the Tomato Garlic Herb Red Snapper ($8.00), and my coworkers got the Malaysian Vegetable Curry ($6.00), and Thai Yellow Chicken Curry ($6.00). All plates came with a starch (Brown Rice or Saffron Rice), and a toss salad. What can I say about the grub? I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty my meal was! The Tomato Garlic Herb Red Snapper was delicious! Nice tomato garlicky flavor, so good the sauce, I had to get more of the sauce to put on my rice! Saffron Rice is not something I eat all the time, but when I do get it..........I really enjoy it! My coworkers have been here before, so they kinda knew what they wanted to eat when they came here, and apparently they really liked the food here, so that's why they turned me on to this place today. The verdict? I will have to agree with my coworkers on the delicious grindz here!
