I have ate here a few times. The 1st time was awesome but it went down from there. Always do drive through and they never give you napkins or utensils unless you ask. I fell in love with corn bread fritters but not anymore. Last time too greasy and this time got half qty of last time and same size ordered. Tried Daddy D's the other day and found it to be just ok. I had a combo plate with pulled pork and brisket. I found both meats dry and a little on the bland side. I think all the fat had been cooked out of the meat and when the fat is gone, the flavor is gone. I tried all 3 of their sauces (Sweet, Hot and NC vinegar), they are all ok but I've had better. On the positive side I found the service to be friendly and efficient. The décor and vibe of the seating area is fun and typical of a BBQ joint and is a nice place to be. I'll be trying them again because they are close by. I hope they can improve the quality of the food over time. read more

I saw this place because we just moved into the Meridian at Broad Street... I think we now found our signature quick fix dinner spot. It was so good! With restaurants, you have to be careful. Some smoke their meat the correct way. Some bake their meats with some liquid smoke and call it BBQ. I have been to places where they took 15 minutes to cook a rack of ribs. This place DEFINITELY smokes their meat! It was nice and juicy and tender too! I had their Mac Daddy sandwich. The Mac and Cheese got lost on the sandwich, but it was overall very good. I really liked their potato salad as well. We sat at the bar, and had absolutely no trouble with service. It was also cheap as well, like 2 people can go there for under $20, which is really nice. Ordered some food online through their website for pickup for dinner; 2 brisket sandwiches and a banana pudding. Great website experience by the way. I've lived in North Carolina for 3 years and have not had a good experience with BBQ (crazy huh) until Daddy D's. The brisket was delicious, the bun and coleslaw were absolutely perfect compliments for it. I had the sweet sauce, and boyfriend had the mild. Both were delicious, and we look forward to trying the rest of the sauces too. The sides we got were BBQ Boiled potatoes, and mac and cheese. To be honest, we did not get to eat much of them because we were absolutely stuffed from the sandwiches. The potatoes were a bit different than I was used to, but still good. We frequent Daddy D's about twice a month on average as we all crave their wings and I have a slight obsession with their burnt ends. My husband and son are avid wing eaters so we have tried them everywhere around town. Luckily there are some great wings in FV but Daddy D's wins across the board! Reasons why we love them: beautifully dry rubbed, lightly smoked, and paired with a ranch lovers favorite runny buttermilk ranch. Occasionally we order something new to try out the rest of their menu. The brisket salad is consistently good and the portion is generous. Their homemade cakes are always good and change daily from what I can tell. The absolute star of the show are the burnt ends though. Meat prices are still high so the price and portion will reflect that but don't hate the player, hate the game as they say. Order the burnt ends sandwich, add the pickled veg for $0.50, add the coleslaw for $0.50, and slather both and load up with your favorite sauce (sweet for me) and have a few minutes of bbq bliss. read more

We tried this place yesterday and thought it was amazing. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We got the pork rinds as an appetizer and they were great. Not too salty, warm and crispy. We all got bbq which was good as well, both chopped and pulled pork. Added some of the sauces at the table which tasted good. I like the sweet sauce the best. They also had mild, hot and eastern. I had green beans as a side and they were well seasoned. Others had okra, which were crispy and tasty. Mac and cheese and hand cut fries. We enjoyed everything. The prices were reasonable. Generic Pork/Brisket/Chicken BBQ place. Food comes out ~pretty unseasoned/definitely unsauced. They want you to add your own at the table.. Which, I get it, makes the "most people" the "most happy". Many BBQ places are like that.. But often, especially with pork, this leaves the meat dry/lacking. I'm a vinegar-based, tossed as soon as its separated from the gristle/chopped- kind of guy. Light toss, not heavy "pooling", (like a salad), so many people get that step wrong and get turned off from vinegar.. +I do like they have Chopped BBQ as an option, rather than just 'pulled'. Chopped is more authentic in my opinion. No alcohol, just tea/soda. No veggies other than green beans/collards/fried okra. Wings- smoked, then fried? The cook on them was great. Only downside, no "hot" or "buffalo hot" option. Just 2 different "Hot BBQ" sauces to choose from. I guess sticking close with the BBQ theme. Good for the restaurant for sticking with the theme, just a lil personal let-down, because..they were better than all the bars in the area. +++++ On the plus side, wings came with--BY FAR-- the best Blue Cheese dressing I've ever had in my life. Our first time here. Loved the brisket and sweet tea but the rest was just okay. Very good restaurant atmosphere for a strip center restaurant. Service was also friendly and attentive. For sides we got green beans, potato salad, cole slaw and jalapeño corn bread. Honestly we wouldn't order any of those again. Just not tasty. Hubby didn't care for the bbq either, it just didn't have much taste. There are just better choices in town and close by for this kind of food. read more

I order delivery from here all the time and when I find a restaurant like this that has a staff that truly cares about the quality product they serve I like to switch up what I order. Today I tried a lunch house salad with brisket. It was delicious and the best part was all the ingredients were all ready cut up into bite size pieces ready to dive into!!! I love this!!! Also got the pulled pork cheesy fries. They sell the shoe string fries and I would rather eat a steak fry BUT when they put the pulled pork and cheese sauce on them it turns them into the BOMB!!! Great barbecue and brisket. Have had many awesome meals here and glad they have moved in and hope they stay. Would have been 5 stars if they hadn't started getting chintzy on their sauces. My wife and I went in last night and ordered a half pound of barbecue, quart of Brunswick Stew and pint of okra. We asked for 4 sauces but were told that we could only have 2 per 1/2 pound unless we wanted to pay extra (kid pointed his finger to a sign). We spend over $20 bucks and barely get any sauce. The brisket was great. The waitress was great. The Mac and Cheese was not completely cooked and not cheesy. It had NO flavor. I asked for my okra crisp and it was soggy. The waitress said something to the cook about it before she gave it to me in the to-go container and I couldn't hear their exact conversation but read the body language of the cook (guy) and he shrugged his shoulders, said something, and pushed it back to her. I'm currently attempting to cook the okra in my oven. When you spend $30 for a meal, the cook should attempt to get it right and not have an attitude with the waitress when she tried to correct the order. Not sure why it was not corrected. And now not sure why I left a tip when my to go order was not what I wanted. Edit: The okra was so over-salted, it tasted like I was eating just salt. I have eaten here before and the okra was great.
