Me and my companion order the lunch buffet along with a two sides one was hush puppies the second was fried okra. I started with my first plate of fried chicken , Mac and cheese and Cajun shrimp. The Mac and cheese was creamy and delish, the shrimp was good but had a spicy after kick to it and the fried chicken was tender and juicy. They also served cornbread muffins along with the buffet. The hush puppies and fried okra both were truly handmade and breaded , the okra was tender and hot out of the oil. This is a truly hidden gem and you only find out about it from word of mouth or tourist apps like this one. There are better times to go than others as this place is always busy, The strongest points are the fried pork chops and the fried chicken of course, both perfectly cooked hot out of the fryer, there's a fun rivalry between two of the family members over who makes the best cornbread, If I order off the buffet I always add fried okra which is perfect there, there's a little salad bar and then you get into the sides, pinto beans, mashed potatoes, collards, green beans, the green veggies are where soul food stands out a little different from other southern food as there's usually a little bit of sugar in there, the mac and cheese is absolutely epic, It's done with penne pasta and so much cheese You might as well sign up for your cardiology appointment before you get there, It's truly a one-of-a-kind experience, I've switched to ordering off the buffet as it's too hard not to overeat at this place because the food is just so gosh darn tasty, If you don't have gastroesophageal reflux disorder before you go here, you'll definitely want to take some omeprazole first If you're over 22 , seriously save room for dessert, I've had cobblers here, banana pudding, and even some darn good key lime pie. While in the area I looked on Google and Yelp to see what was around. I seen this Soul Food place and since we enjoyed a place in Vegas we went to and figured it would be worth a shot. The reviews sounded good I had been in the mood which was a odd craving for a greek salad , I had asked the waitress if it was a good size order since there was two sizes. She said the one was small like a side salad. The bigger one was $9 something. There was a menu online I found but must have been old and not updated cause prices were cheaper, and the salad was only 6-7. When I got the salad I thought it was a joke. This was a greek salad? I have had with cucumber, peppercinis also added before. This was lettuce and tomato some black olives and feta thrown on top. I learned a valuable lesson you don't order a greek salad at Soul food restaurant. The other dinner dish was like $13 that was with a added breast I wanted to have with the Salad. Plus I ordered a side of Mac and Cheese for almost $2 and the cheese was more on top then mixed through it. The fried chicken was really good. Other than that it was not worth the prices they charged. I understand business may not be the best because of covid but don't over charge customers because even though the chicken was good I wouldn't go back. This is the place for true authentic southern soul food! I wasn't sure if it would be as good as some other places we've eaten in the Deep South, but it was every bit as good! We ordered the fried catfish, Mac & cheese, black eyed peas, hush puppies & sweet tea. That catfish was the biggest piece of fish I've ever seen! Usually, the restaurants I've been to gives several small pieces in one order, but I think that even if this whole piece was cut up into pieces it wouldn't be the equivalent to the one piece I had. It also tasted really fresh. I'm not sure I've ever had fresh cat fish. I don't even know if cat fish lives in the Pacific Northwest. The hush puppies were fabulous too. Usually the ones I've had in the past, the hush puppies were just corn bread fried into smaller pieces. These hush puppies were tasty enough to know they weren't just fried corn bread. They were the best I've ever had! Too bad we were so full after we ate. I would have loved to have had one of their desserts. Maybe we'll go back to visit sometime soon. For example, the macaroni and cheese was macaroni and real cheese actually baked in a pan to perfection, not those bland boiled noodles swimming in watery cheese flavored gruel that high-priced restaurants foist onto city-slickers. The green beans were cooked well done, not just dragged through the kitchen and served unseasoned and nearly raw as is fashionable elsewhere in Hendersonville. In my opinion, raw green beans save time and energy but are not a gourmet touch. The absence of banal recorded music at "pain," "stun," or "kill" volume allowed pleasant conversation with my best friend. And the waitress (whose name I don't recall) was gracious, efficient, and delightful. Composed this review from memory since my contemporary Yelp review seems to have evaporated.
