Dad's Diner a Go-Go is a definite must visit! We were lucky enough to hit it on a Sunday morning at 8:30 am in February. There were only two other tables, but by the time we left, it was getting packed. My wife had the Biscuits and Gravy. Unique. One of a kind. The biscuits were obviously homemade, and lightly fried so that they were crisp. The gravy had bacon, ham and sausage in it. She was thoroughly impressed. Heart attack on a plate, but you'll die happy. I had the Franco Mexican Toast. Savory French Toast with stuffed jalapenos wrapped in roast beef and drizzled with a crema sauce. It was served with 2 eggs. It was absolutely amazing! I loved it. All of the different flavors worked well together. Service is good; the food is excellent, and definitely a little different. My wife and I stopped here prior to catching the ferry to Orcas Island after we read the reviews. It was so good, we made it a point to stop here again on our way out of Anacortes. After eating breakfast here the first time, it was obvious this place was special from the service to the food. Matt's Big Breakfast in Phoenix is the best breakfast restaurant I've ever been to and it's consistently ranked in the top 20 places in the US. Dad's Diner is the first place I've ever been to that I would put in the same class. The pancake was top notch. My wife said it was the best pancake she had ever eaten and thought about it all week. It's huge and has a similar consistency to a crepe, except a bit crispier. I had the regular Dad's breakfast and although it was "just" bacon, eggs, toast, and potatoes, the ingredients are just that much better than anywhere else. I've since moved from Anacortes, but Dad's Diner holds a special place in my heart! I'm married to Navy, and we moved to Lemoore, CA for a few years (low expectations for dining there), and we're now in Monterey, CA (much higher expectations), and while we've found some decent places (minus really high prices), nothing compares to Dad's. I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy, the hash, buttermilk pancake, Cuban sandwich, and burger. We love the food so much that we got a bunch of brisket and pulled pork with sides to feed our wedding guests! I wanted to leave this review because Dad's has ruined me for other perfectly decent restaurants around here and I don't want to slam them because I've had better. It's not their fault they aren't as good as Dad's. Plus it costs $50 for breakfast for 2 around here, and Dad's is much more reasonable. PS. We've been here twice now and both times we had excellent meals. The brisket Reuben and the Party Melt were fantastic. We did experience an incident that was annoying the last time we went there, but it won't keep us from going again. Some entitled, selfish people came in with their dog in a stroller and parked the special little mutt (no it was not a service dog) right next to our sandwiches while they stared at the chalkboard menu (it really is time to get some menus printed guys). We asked the waitress if they allowed dogs. She checked with the manager who also didn't know so the dog stayed. We love our own Labrador retriever, but we wouldn't dream of taking him to a restaurant. Check your dog privilege folks. If you can't even go out to eat without your precious doggie it's time to reevaluate your relationships with humans. An update: the law says this -- David Gifford from the Washington State Department of Health answers our question. I took my husband here today for Father's Day breakfast. The place was really busy but the staff was still very friendly and welcoming. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, and then waited a while for menus, what we didn't realize is that the menu is on the wall. We had hash with pulled pork, biscuits and gravy, and the dads breakfast plate. Everything was fantastic. It was obvious everything was made from scratch and tasted delicious. For all the great reviews we expected a breakfast less overcooked and more "appealing." The eggs were nicely cooked, the huge biscuit was fluffy and tasty, the hash browns (country fries) were way overcooked, and the sausage was pretty bland. We have had their BBQ further south on Commercial and it is fabulous (take out only), so our standards were higher than delivered. For what we received the breakfast meals seemed $3 - $4 overpriced each. However, the service is great - efficient and friendly - the diner atmosphere resonates with a laid-back "dad" attitude that is replicated with the "dad" pictures on the wall. I'm quite late in writing this review, I have an excuse though. I didn't have Yelp when I went. I ordered 2 pancakes, 1 biscuit and a few sausage links. The wait to get seats was extremely long because there was so many people we waited 1 Hour and we finally got somewhere to sit down. The portion sizes were way bigger than I expected- the pancakes were the sizes 2 of my face I'm a 12 year old boy so imagine how big that pancake was! Would come back just to try the pulled pork on a sandwich with some sauce and slaw. Franco French Toast - what a bizarre invention. I didn't know what to expect, and when it came I wasn't sure how she'd eat it. But boy, it was tasty. Interesting flavor combinations. Again, better for me for brunch or lunch. So savory. Biscuits and Gravy - awesome. Biscuits were buttery, soft, and crumbly. Gravy was chock-full of meats. All kinds of meats. It was exceedingly meaty. Again, not overly salty (thank you!). The hotel recommended this as a breakfast place and we wandered in on an early Sunday (glad we were early because a line quickly formed). I loved the layout and historical feel of the building and the waitstaff was incredibly nice. All selections were on a blackboard that was not the easiest to read and interpret, but that was part of the fun and the staff was patient in repeating what was on the board. I ordered the corned beef hash and my companion ordered the smoked brisket hash. Here is the thing about hash, everything is supposed to be diced, cut small, so that the flavors blend and one gets a little of everything in each bite. The potatoes and onions were cut huge while the meat was fairly small, the meat to potatoes ratio was off (especially at those prices), and there was an odd flavor... too many herbs perhaps. Yet the meat....when I could find a bite in the hash it was like discovering gold. The corned beef was tender, juicy, flavorful. I learned that they do all their own smoking and curing, from the bacon to the brisket to the pastrami. On my way out of town I passed their food truck selling their smoked meats by the pound. I picked up a 1/2 slab of ribs and some pulled pork. The ribs were the best I have ever had. Hands down. So while the breakfast itself was only a 3-star, the service and the smoked meats raised it to a 4-star experience. read more

Holy Cow! This place is ridiculously good. It's a small diner in the port town of Anacortes. If you've ever been there, you'll know the town is about the size of a back yard. JK. But really, this small town is something right out of a movie and this diner is the place to be. Our group came in on a Friday morning and ordered off their giant chalkboard menu which is relatively few in items but, boy, do they make up for it with the quality. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over easy and a biscuit and a coffee to drink. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything tasted so fresh. There was ACTUAL corned beef in the hash and not that pink, canned stuff most places try to pass off as beef. The seasoning was bit salty but I like it that way. The home-style potatoes were done just right and didn't have that burnt or overcooked taste. And the Horseradish Crema sounds like a lot but don't be deterred; its horseradish taste isn't overwhelming and, in fact, it was very light and completed the overall flavor profile very nicely. The biscuit was fresh and fluffy; coat it with some butter and honey and your mouth is swimming in goodness. Can't be any happier with this place. Great job guys! read more
