Dad's is our weekend go-to place for take-out (and eat-in before there was a global pandemic.). The menu is standard bar food fare but they do an awesome job! I usually get a fish sandwich with fresh-cut fries. The sandwich is big enough that I can have what's left for lunch the next day and the fries are the best. Husband gets the cheesesteak and it is the bar by which he measures any other cheesesteak sandwich (meaning it's the best in his opinion.) When we order wings, we get the hot and they are really good as well. The beer situation is a whole other discussion. They have many on tap and coolers upon coolers of cans and bottles. We grabbed takeout from here on a Saturday. We have been inside once and it's got a different vibe. It's very clearly an old Pizza Hut. It has that distinctive look outside and inside as well, but it really doesn't matter. There's a nice bar and a ton of beer to choose from in the coolers if that's your thing. We could have gotten beer or a growler to go too which is a nice option, especially now. Takeout isn't ever as fun as eating inside and rarely as good because of the transit time and what it does to hot foods but regardless, we were all happy with our food. The hotdogs here are really delicious and the salad I got was made exactly as I requested and everything was ready on time. Prices are fair. If your getting takeout during the pandemic, the pick up process is easy and efficient. A girl greeted us (while masked) and asked for a name. She handed over the food and we were on our way. There are lots of places in the monroeville area to get takeout from, but we like to give our orders to the smaller guys. The food is better and something like a closure hits them so much harder. First time here and it's a locals place to frequent. The personnel were very friendly and helpful. We were only there for a late dinner/bite to eat as it was 8pm. It was still rather busy but it was the day before the 4th of July. The food was good and they had a good selection to choose from. They had ample parking behind the building. Steve greeted us at the door and we were told by the hostess our wait was going to be 45 minutes. Not an issue as this was a Friday night that we dined in. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, as well as helpful when it comes to people who are indecisive. I've been hearing about this place from co-workers for a while but never got to go until now since it's out of the way. To my delight, I had to visit Monroeville for an errand and when my boyfriend and I looked up local lunch spots, I said we HAD to go to Dads due to their reputation. I'm so happy we've finally visited and so sad that I don't live closer! This was pure comfort/bar food and they've perfected it. As soon as I saw the buffalo fries I knew I had to get them. I ordered them with a hot dog and both were great. The fries definitely had a kick which I love. The hot dog was even super good. Hot dogs are hard to mess up but it felt like they really went above and beyond with this one. My boyfriend had the Italian hoagie and it looked delicious. He said it was as good as it looked! I really enjoy the food here, along with the laid-back sports bar atmosphere. I've previously had a pizza here, which was delicious, and any of their fry options are delicious. On my most recent visit, my boyfriend and I ordered the fresh-cut fries, which were tossed with seasonings and Parmesan cheese. The portion was huge and they were amazing. Both of us ordered a half dozen of the whole wings tossed in a dry rub. Both of us also had to take boxes with us. Have gone to Dad's every time we are in town, today was very disappointing. Took our Mom out for Mother's Day, she wasn't wished Happy Mother's Day, did not receive her complimentary drink or 50% off her meal. The cheese sticks were amazing but the fish sandwich was very salty, could have used lettuce and tomato, won't get it again The bartender/waitress was not all that great, not personable at all. Dads pub and grub is a one of a kind elite restaurant. If you are in the Monroeville area please consider going. The wait time is enormously long but is completely justified by how good the food is. When I say the food is great I'm not exaggerating. When the server brought out the food I was simply amazed. My meal "easily" racked in at the top 3 best meals I've ever had pertaining to bar style food. This caught me off guard as my meal was somewhat cheap. The price is also in your favor. I got an appetizer including a milkshake and my cost came to less than 18 bucks. So I would go in assuming you are about to pay less than 20 bucks. An the atmosphere is distinct as Dad's building is out of a old Pizza Hut space. Which is a nice contrast and I think it fits well. I can easily give this place a 10/10 read more

This is a hidden gem in Monroeville. We'd never tried it before, even though we've passed it a kazillion times. It's not much to look at from the outside, which is probably why we never gave it a shot. But I'm glad we finally did! I could kick myself for not snapping any photos of the food, which is usually the first thing I do. But I was with a group & everyone (including me) just dove right in to the food. Sorry! We started with the "OUR FAMOUS 'PUB' CHIPS" which are homemade chips that come with ranch dressing & your choice of seasoning. We chose the seasoned salt. The chips were really good and were gone in no time between the three of us eating them. The youngest got a hot dog kid's meal. Next one got a Classic Red pizza (small) with pepperoni & bacon added. He kept eating until he was stuffed. There was a half of a slice left, so it must have been good! He's a pretty picky eater. Third kid got an adult burger, plain, just cheese. She said it was a bit salty. But she liked the battered fries. My daughter and I got the cheesesteak sub. It was a good size, too. They certainly don't skimp on food here. It's served with homemade chips, but substitutions are allowed (for an add'l cost). I have to tell you - that sandwich was GOOD! Seriously, I haven't stopped thinking about it & have been planning on going back there again just to get it. The service was great. Went to Dad's tonight for dinner. Normally it's a pleasant place to go. However, today it was so cold in there it was unbearable. I asked the waitress to see if the air conditioning could be turned up to no avail. I asked to speak with the manager, who came out and told us the temp couldn't go above 68° to keep the kitchen workers at a safe temperature. Personally I believe that was b.s. having worked in many kitchens. Your customers shouldn't have to freeze to keep the kitchen staff 'safe'. If your HVAC system I that bad, upgrade it. read more

My continued quest to find good food led yet to another disappointment from Dad's. I've been craving a gyro. I miss the delicious gyros from NY. I miss watching them cut the meat from the ever rotating lamb. I ordered a takeout gyro in time to return home to watch the Steelers game. The order came with an option of sides so I asked for their fresh cut fries, extra crispy. In summary, I found the gyro meat to have very little flavor. There wasn't enough cucumber sauce, and the fries were super soggy. After COVID, I may consider going back to Dad's to watch a game. It seemed like a fun place. But I definitely won't order a gyro. Hands down the best burger I have had in my life, and I did not expect to find it at Dad's. Decided to stop here away from downtown Pittsburgh to avoid rush hour traffic, so I Yelped restaurants and they led me here. Clearly it looks like an old Pizza Hut location which made me pause on how the experience would be, but am I sure glad I stopped here. It was a beautiful and cool sunny day, and after working inside I felt like sitting on the patio. There were two dogs sitting with their owners at other tables, which at first I thought may be annoying but then appreciated the fact they were allowed to be there. As I sat outside, about 4 other groups of people showed up from different parties, and everyone seemed to know everyone, a very nice home town feel. Based on the full parking lot I also felt like I was making a good decision. I ordered the loaded nachos without jalapeños, and the chips were very good, I was just hoping for more cheese sauce. Next is the burger: medium rare to perfection, and I was able to customize my burger with mayo, American cheese, ketchup, and lettuce- a nice simple burger. Well.... I can't quite pinpoint what it was, but it was the best burger I ever had, and in Monroeville of all places. The bun was the freshest and softest bun ever, almost like they made it in the back! And the fries were heaven, although I was too full to even finish. I will ABSOLUTELY come back here the next time I'm in the area. I loved the hometown and relaxed vibe of this place.
