My Canadian friends insisted we come here to try poutine. I had never heard of/tried it before. Evidently it's fries with gravy and cheese curds. I'm a malt vinegar on fries type of girl so this seemed weird. I gave it a go and it's not too bad but not my style. They all RAVED about it though-cleaning their plates and groaning in pleasure the entire time. I had their fries alone and an ice cream cone (the name is DAIRY belle) and both were awesome. The service was fast and kind, and the place is a cute outdoor covered patio not unlike a Dairy Queen. The prices were a tad high but it was worth it and it seems to be a mom and pop operation. 2 big thumbs up-this is a 10 minute or so drive for us, so next time they're in the mood we will likely make the trek over here. I really don't like giving a one star review because the staff in the restaurant are actually very nice. The fact is that I asked for a vegan poutine and the gravy is vegan but the cheese in it is not so it is 100% not vegan. I ate this before he got there because like a good date, I didn't wanna look like a pig in front of him. So I in fact was fed animal product when the menu says vegan. I have not had animal product in 9 years so I'm actually worried about what may happen tonight when I get home in the bathroom. My boyfriend was actually really seriously pissed off and raging and it took my entire dinner service to calm him down so he would not blow up at the owners. It was not a fun time at all. As nice as the employees are. We will not be going back there ever again. If I can't trust the food I'm being served, what's the point? I don't like giving a negative review. I really don't. I went there before and asked if the barbecue poutine was vegan and the employees there told me yes. Today I asked for the vegan poutine and they sold it to me without blinking an eye. That is not my fault. I am just seriously irritated at the fact that restaurants aren't taking things like this seriously. It's not just you guys, it's a bunch of people. We tried the poutine, caramel sundae and strawberry sundae. I had never tried poutine before, it was essentially French fries with beef gravy and cheese curds, it definitely had a very interesting flavor, but I enjoy sweets and would rather just have old fashioned fries and ketchup. The ice cream in the sundaes was great, it was rich, creamy and thick, some of the best soft serve ice cream I've had. The caramel sauce was also very rich and enjoyable. The strawberry sauce for the sundaes was a little disappointing, I was expecting fresh strawberry and syrup and it tasted more like a store bought strawberry jelly. read more

Visited this place mainly because Jackson's line was outrageous as it is always the case on the weekends. I got an Oreo tornado which is suppose to be kind of like their version of the McFlurry except with less Oreos, and to me that was a disappointment. My friend got the Resees parfait and it's basically plain peanut butter at the bottom with ice cream and Reeses on top and she too complained to me that it was disappointing. Can't say anything about their food cause I didn't try any. If you do decide to go, stick with the classic sundaes. I saw some that other people ordered and they looked better than what my friend and I had. read more

I first went to Dairy Belle years ago when a friend asked if I ever had something called "poutine" (which I've never even heard of, and I'll explain in a bit). This prompted a quick trip to this Dania Beach gem. When we pulled up I realized ice driven past this place at least 1,000 times. It's rift off of US1 - you can't miss it (if you're looking for it, haha). The establishment is pretty much a walk-up window style restaurant with tables outside, which are protected from that elements. Don't be surprised (or discouraged) if there's a line going out to the parking lot... It usually moves very quickly. Now back to the poutine... Poutine is basically a fresh pile of french fries covered in a tasty brown gravy with chunks of cheese curds (think... Soft, but chewy cheese) tossed up in this delicious mess. It. Is. Amazing. They have a few variations, but the original is the best. You must try! They also have hotdogs, soft serve I scream, and a bunch of other tasty treats... But I really only go for the poutine. Don't know about the Canadian food but the ice cream and now it's prepared is great. The banana bread is so good I buy slices to take home.

As luck would have it, I was in the Fort Lauderdale area on Saturday night (the day before my cruise). I spent about 2.5 hours in my hotel gym so I needed away to destroy my exercise regimens. I found this great little eatery right down the street from my hotel. It was almost 10 PM and my expectations for a treat were rather low. I was attracted to the establishment by the American and Canadian flags flowing in the wind. Also the bright lights from the business drew me in. I was impressed by all the other menu items such as their hamburger and hot dogs combinations, but what most attracted me was the extensive ice cream menu. What caught my eye was the classic banana split! My only signature to this delight was crushed Oreos sprinkled on top. I was the customer of the night, so I wasn't expecting good service. I couldn't have been more wrong. The order taker had the biggest smile on her face as she talked me through my options. My only minor complaint is there is a no substitution rule in place and if you wanted to add other elements it would cost about $1.50 per item. I was feeling cheap, so I opted to go without my roping of choice (crushed Oreos). I could tell the kitchen staff were tired and kind of going through the motions so close to closing time. I heard my order taker yell back "banana split, no nuts!" And guess what I got? It's a good thing I wasn't allergic to those things because there they were, as clear as day... I brought back my treat and verified my order. The person immediately realized the mistake and made everything alright by giving me complementary crushed Oreos! I don't blame her for the mix up. At that time of the evening as well as going through the motions of making yet another ice cream dish could have tripped up the best of us. I am impressed how quickly they remedied the situation by first offering to do the whole thing again, or offering the item that would have costed me extra money. I was very pleased with the outcome and completely enjoined my ice cream. My only error in judgement is I'm lactose intolerant and had no Lactate with me (in hotel room). So I suffered a little later (we won't go into that here). Next time I'm in the area I will have to try their other menu items because the people sitting at the picnic tables seemed very content with their selections. read more

The poutine here is amazing. When i go to Canada i always eat poutine. This place is the only place i know in south florida that has poutine that taste like the ones i've tried in Canada. The only thing is if you are looking for some complicated poutine like with meat, extra onions etc, it's not it! If you want the simple fries with cheese curd and gravy, you should stop by. Went back for a second visit and unfortunately the food wasn't as good the second time around. The cheese curds were still fantastic but they forgot the marinara sauce. The chicken sandwich was just dry chicken breast in two slices of plain bread. The galvaude came without peas and again dry chicken. The fries and gravy just were ok. Maybe it was just an off day but definitely disappointing considering the distance we had to drove to eat there. read more

Ice cream was amazing! I had the dipped vanilla cone in cake batter and it was literally one of the best ice-creams I ever had! The poutine was good, but if I felt for it, I can tell it would taste 10x better. To conclude, it was great food, great ice cream, and great service! read more

Went for their famous poutine today and no cheese and no poutine avail . Had a club sandwich instead and very disappointing for $12. 1 very thin piece of lettuce , 1 paper thin bacon and very dry . I saw the "Check Please" episode on PBS last night about poutine, so I decided to drive the half+ hour to try it. I LOVE POUTINE!!!! Dairy Belle's poutine "curd cheese" is FANTASTIC - loved it - and unfortunately that is where the ecstacy ended. It has frozen french fries (the place I go south of Montreal cuts their own fresh potatoes), the gravy may be from Canada but it tastes like it's out of a jar, and the chicken I requested with it was extremely dry white meat. Overall, it left a lot to be desired. I did pay the three bucks for "extra" curd cheese without even tasting it and I'm glad that I did - I can't stress enough how good it was. I was concerned there would be a long wait/line because of their television feature the night before, and their advertising pictures of long lines at their only window - but was pleasantly surprised to walk-up and order with no wait. The food was quick and the service/help was nice too. The place is extremely clean with outdoors eatery only. I sat at a picnic table myself and others sat at the table with me and it still felt comfortable and okay. And, while it was extremely windy, and I had to hold my napkins down with my car keys, the breeze felt nice. I seemed to be the only one there eating poutine in spite of all the picnic tables being full and the poutine being raved about on television the night before. Perhaps I'm not the only French Canadien used to something better - although the place was packed with Canadiens and everyone seemed to be specifically there for their own favorites (which was not the poutine :( It's unfortunate that one of the TV reviewers had his 1st poutine ever here - and he didn't get to taste what a real poutine with fresh potatoes, better gravy and moist chicken would taste like with fabulous curd cheese. For all the times that we had been in the area on vacation we never heard of this location. But once my husband looked it up and saw that they had poutine of which I never had he said we have to go. It's in a lesser busy area of town which is good. The sit down area to eat is a bit small but we were eating in the car anyway. Well I am now a convert and loved the poutine as did hubby - the fries were perfect, the gravy hot and fresh, the cheese curds fresh - such a guilty pleasure. Terrible customer service! We arrived at the restaurant thinking they closed at 11, but apparently they closed at 10. They rushed our orders. My husband asked for a vanilla swirl. The menu says vanilla or chocolate swirl. They gave him vanilla and chocolate swirled together. He told them he did not order that and wanted only vanilla. They said that's what you ordered and refused to give him a new cone and charged him for the one he didn't even eat. When we sat down they started their closing procedures and turned the light off on us. They did put them back on when they realized. We have been there many times since they opened the new location and even went to the old location for years before. I can't believe how rude the staff was. read more

At first, we tried the ice cream. The sign says "BEST SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM EVER". This is a true statement. I'm 100% sure this it is a fact. So then I tried the banana split. But now it's the "BASILE BANANA SPLIT". Here's how to eat the banana split at The Belle. *switch out the strawberry for the Reese's peanut butter sauce. *a tad less ice cream. More fudge, peanut butter & pineapple. *No whip cream. Extra peanuts & cherries. Then, kill yourself. It's so good. Every time I order it, it's gone in 5 minutes or less. It's fucking crack. Ok so, it was finally time to try some of this silly food. I ordered the fried chicken samich with onion rings. BEST CK SAMICH EVER. BEST ONION RINGS EVER. Poutine? The first thing I thought when I walked up: What in the world is poutine? There is a large picture with a description. Poutine is apparently french fries, cheese curd, and brown gravy. This didn't sound very appetizing to me and so I ordered my vanilla with hot fudge. As I was paying the lady I heard shouts of glee and delight behind me from adults and children. They were excited to find poutine. I looked to my right and saw several tables with the poutine; mainly empty plates. I turned to the family that was "oohing" and "ahing" and asked them about Poutine. They said that it is a very popular item in Canada that one would eat as a side. They all scoffed at me as though I should know this. I will try the poutine in the future since my ice cream was good. It wasn't necessarily the ice cream that was good as much as it was the hot fudge. The ice cream is like any other no-name brand of soft serve ice cream. What made it for me was the hot fudge. It wasn't overly hot, it had good fudge flavor, and as it cooled it didn't turn into lumps that stuck to everything. I rather enjoyed the hot fudge. Next time? This is definitely Elvis approved.. Of course if you're looking for something healthy, you should just eat lettuce and be unhappy.
