BE CAREFUL! This place will charge you different prices if you seem americanized or not knowing the real prices of these food items. Last time they charged me $4 per banh gio wrapped in plastic bag (should be banana leaves and $2.5-3 max everywhere else). Serving banh cuon my all time fave Vietnamese dish ~ A local cousin introduced us to the abundantly delicious tray of steamed rice pork rolls here a few years ago when it was $25 and it's been the only place I've gone to grab this whenever I'm passing through Orange County. Usually I've bought a couple trays to drive several hours out of town to take to friends and family since it's hard to find or seldom served. I only wish I could speak Vietnamese because our cousin-in-law translates or calls in to pre-order and gets better customer service. Not sure if the ladies speak English because I had to ask for the essential dipping sauce which wasn't offered or included and was a bit of a communication challenge when I was there by myself. From what I remember, the first time I tasted the banh cuon here I was hooked and looked forward to these. The savory pork woodear mushroom crepes are steamed and rolled perfectly, there's generous toppings of fried garlic and the sweet spicy sauce brings harmony to all the flavors. I haven't ordered from here in a while, however, because the last time the seasoning of the ground meat seemed a bit off and had slight aftertaste. For what you pay for an order of this size, quality has to be consistently on point. Otherwise I feel like the entire tray is a miss. I wish I read Cat N's review before coming here. It was the second week into the lunar calendar and Bolsa was blocked off for some Lunar New Years parade so I was unable to get to my go-to spot for party trays (Lam Van -- off Magnolia and Bolsa). As the police officers forced us to make u-turns in the middle of Magnolia I was rerouted as I turned onto Hazard and this was the first food to-go/party tray spot I ran into. I ordered banh bot loc tran, goi du du (papaya salad) and goi tom thit (shrimp and beef salad). The party trays here are about $20-$25 depending on what you ordered... which is fine. They are definitely cheap on proteins though. The biggest problem is EVERYTHING TASTED SO SALTY!! Instead of throwing on more protein they probably substitute it for salt. The salad dressing on Vietnamese style salads are usually like a sweet vinaigrette. My cousin said she tried to make her own vinegar mixer to offset their crazy-salty salad but it was impossible. My poor cousin rarely gets to enjoy Vietnamese food so she is not even picky but our whole family agreed not to come back here. I had to go buy better quality food trays elsewhere the following week for a redemption luncheon. Not only do I want to avoid this business, I want to avoid this plaza. It was so sketchy!! Good Food to Go, Nice Selection and Fresh Fruit! Dakao is on my top five list for "Food To Go" Places. I don't think anyone has called it Seaport Seafood for years. On the weekends, this place is a five star. They have great cut fruit selections including papaya. It is always different so you kind of roll the dice. I am not a big fan of their cafe sua da. It has a flavor that I can't just make out what it is. It covers the roast. I prefer going a few doors down to Gala and getting it. But, theirs is too sweet, aslo. A few times I picked up the Com Ga. It looks like a healthy portion, but usually has a ton of bones. I really dislike bones in my com ga. Another negative aspect is that the ladies are always rude. Anyways, for the most part this place is good. It is also consistent. Weekdays are four stars and the weekends five stars. The selection is fantastic. I drove to the area and decided to come in to pick up a $30 tray of Yellow noodles with shrimps, chicken, etc..I don't know how long the tray was out on the counter but it looks pretty good. Brought it home to share with another 5 ppl. My sister asked me why did I buy from here? She said she heard complaints and people came returning the food last time she was there (months ago) . I said it looks good today, and I already bought it so let's try. We each had a plate of noodles, and by the end of the night, three of us experienced stomachaches, One had to visit the bathroom many times during the night. Another successful holiday season without fail! Our food selection for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years was a complete hit. Lines are usually out the door so it helps knowing exactly what you want when it's your turn to order. There's nothing more annoying than a customer who takes FOREVER to order when they've had all that time waiting in line to figure it out - can't fault the store for that though! I picked up some food on Christmas morning and ended up needing more since the platters kept getting quickly demolished. Luckily, I recently moved close by so I bought more food later in the evening. BTW, it was the same people working! I have a lot of empathy for the employees working here especially during the holidays because it gets pretty chaotic. They are also spending the holidays working and serving so many demanding and mostly rude customers instead of being with their families. Extremely grateful for businesses like this one that stay open during these times so lazy people like me do not have to cook! I have tried all the fast food in town but for some reason have never been around this mini mall. I bought a few items to try right there before I ordered everything for our annual Christmas party. Service was amazing, the owner was very polite and helpful. 1) Bo La Lot, grilled beef wrapped in wine leaf was just so delicious. The sauce that came with it just hit the spot! 2) Chao Tom, grilled shrimp wrapped around a stick of sugarcane. It was also mouth watering unlike in many restaurants, they mixed in chunks of fat as to make it a health hazard. The sauce was just so authentic. Most restaurants diluted w who knows what, made it yellow and so sweet, it tasted like a taco sauce! 3) Chicken salad, the ginger sauce was good, I wished they shredded the chicken, I was so busy and had to shred it myself but it was Ok, they gave us 2 sauces, the vinaigrette and the ginger sauce. Some of my guests cannot eat ginger and peanuts, eveythig was separated here so it was awesome. 4) eggrolls, they were a little bland.
