Sandwich baguette bread was much smaller in size a few months ago. I'm glad they plumped it up again, so that customers can feel the good value in their delicious all time Banh Mi sandwiches again. Owner is still there. Everything still tastes good here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tiny store, but with option to dine-in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] People are always chatty here and lines grow. Expect long wait times for your orders since there's not many employees inside. Customers enjoy playing CA lottery scratchers inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Smoke/cigarette smell is still noticeable by the entrance doors and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Yes, Banh Mi sandwiches are $7 each now. Better than $10-$12 for Banh Mi at popular and larger chains these days. It's your most affordable eats during inflation times. Baguette bread looks more crumbly or wrinkled up. Overall, flavors and selections are still good. Cashier is efficient and organized. $7 Banh Mi? No complaints. Noodle soup bowls are hovering around $17 and under. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This old place is surviving.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Meatball sandwich was good (tasted a bit of corn in it which made it unique). Roasted chicken sandwich was good as usual. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place can use a major remodeling or upgrade in future.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Rating 2.5 The place has good reviews on here thus came here. Really sad that both Banh Mi we got were far from being good Banh Mi. Lets break it down. 1. The bread was a little stale. It lacked the crunch on the outside which is a signature of a good Banh Mi and separates it from other sandwiches. The bread was like a subway bread. 2. Inconsistent mayo and lacked moisture. The sandwich was dry. 3. Do chua (carrot and diakon pickles) were not crisp. This sandwich is supposed to be textural experience, this one lacked it. Didn't have enough jalapeño. 4. Bbq pork was dry and piled on one corner of the sandwich. All in all there are many places around this area that have better Banh Mi experience. Really unfortunate as this place comes highly rated. Place is clearly family managed, have other things to try. Might be back to give another try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place has 3-4 long tables for enough work lunch kind of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Randomly craved banh mi and noticed this spot nearby, so we decided to check it out. You already know the food is going to be good when the menu photos look a little faded . They have a wide variety of options, but we tried the shaking beef, banh mi, and spring rolls and everything was solid. The shaking beef was well stir-fried, nicely coated in sauce, and came with tomato rice. The banh mi was affordable, and the bread was super soft with a nice crunch when you bite into it. For the spring rolls, it seemed like they were wrapped in double rice paper and packed really well. Communication might be a bit difficult due to a language barrier, but the food definitely speaks for itself. Always happy to support spots like this.

Vietnamese sandwiches and dishes with solid execution at competitive prices. This casual eatery serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine, specializing in sandwiches, is your quick and affordable fix. Nothing exceptional but the value is there and the variety of options is nice for repeat visits or picky eaters. Payments options are limited to cash and Venmo but the prices are a bit lower compared to other Vietnamese sandwich shops. We ordered a few different options to give them a try and were pleasantly satisfied with the general amount of food per sandwich. The inner ingredients were reasonable in quality and quantity and the bread is very generous in proportion to everything else. Pate Chaud - this crispy little snack is hefty and while delicious, not exactly what I had expected. It wasn't so much pate as it was more of a chunk of ground meat. It was still good in flavor, but the texture missed the mark for me. Combination sandwich - this loaded meal has the texture and flavor to hit the spot. The cold cuts were portioned well and with each bite, you get the different flavors bounding in your mouth. BBQ pork sandwich - delicious and seasoned well. The portions could be more balanced in my opinion but still a solid one to try as a first timer. Grilled pork sandwich - this missed the mark for me. The pork was a bit dry but the flavor was decent. I don't personally like this type of sandwich anyway so I wasn't particular ecstatic about it to begin with. Overall, for what it's worth, Dakao does a good job offering decent Vietnamese sandwiches at reasonable prices that will also fill you up. They're not the best in my opinion nor are they going to win any awards when it comes to quality and flavor, but for value alone, they can hold their own. There are many other sandwich shops in the Bay Area and you really can't go wrong with any of them from my experience but if you are in the area and looking to dine on a dime (less than 10 bucks), Dakao may be an option to consider.

This place is small but has an extensive menu of Vietnamese food. I was craving a banh mi and grabbed the #1 dac biet cold cut sandwich and added an egg. It was average. There wasn't a lot of meat and there was way too much onion and not enough daikon and carrot. We also ordered with banh hoi with BBQ pork. Overall, also not bad and average. This place is a choice it if you are just craving Vietnamese food at 8am and no one else is locationally close or open for business yet. Casual. They accept cash, Venmo, or Zelle. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Indoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Please come and create your own adventure.

A truly underrated Vietnamese eatery that's been around for nearly 20 years. My co-workers and I would come by for its grilled chicken and pork bánh mì served on a crunchy baked baguette with pickled carrots, daikon, cilantro and cucumber slices at $7 and drinks for $4 cheaper than its competitors. Located in a small plaza with surrounding business with ample parking. Came by on a Saturday and they're open at 6:30 in the morning whereas are a lot of business are still closed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only drawback is limited dine-in seating though most of their business is for take-outs and service has been very efficient so no complaints.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Patê chaud (miniature meat pies) are my favorite comes in pork price at $2 and a Thai iced coffee for a mere $4 simply cheap cheaper than eating at some of the fast food joint. By the way it's cash only!

I was in the area and I was Looking for banh mi restaurant. I Yelped of course and found Dakao. I ordered number 1 with ham, head cheese and pickled daikon and carrots. Not all banh mi restaurant had this banh mi. It's my favorite since the first time I ate banh mi. If the restaurant do not have this type, I will not go. I always check the menu first. Anyways I ordered #1 with extra pate and jalapeños. I took it with me so I can eat it while I sat in the traffic going back to our office in Oakland. I really enjoyed it. You can tell from the crumbs on my shirt, pants and seat! Lol. I also have to drink soy bean milk whenever I eat banh mi. The service was fast and the price was not bad. $6 plus $.50 for the extra pate. Come by and check them out, I know I will.

Quality/Quantity - We have a tight schedule full of appointments today, so only shopping at quick or self-service businesses today. Grabbed a roasted and shredded chicken sandwich - The roasted one had more flavor. Small hot food ready to-go deli, see picture. Simple menu done well. Catering available. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere - Small mom and pop business. The husband seemed happier than his wife, but everyone seemed to be working hard.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of indoor seating, as most people buy to-go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Open 7 days a week from 6am to 6pm; Yelp hours differ slightly. Plenty of mall parking. Service - No nonsense. Take your order, tell you to wait aside or take a seat. Then they will call you when your order is ready. Simple and quick. The only confusion was that I was following the "arrows" on the floor to get in "line." But everyone else went in a different direction...? So should I NOT be following the arrows? I was in a hurry, but not so much as to cut in line. Price - $6 each (including tax), $12 cash only. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success for 20+ years and for your two locations...?

Bun Rieu. They gave me complimentary tea. Really good tea. Vietnamese ice coffee is really good too and only $4. Homemade tasting food

Found another good spot for quick Vietnamese grabs, although we only tried their Vietnamese sandwiches this time, I'd try some of their other offerings. Very small hole in the wall kind of mom and pops shop that is littered with a bunch of stuff that almost makes you think it's one of those California "bodegas". Family oriented and neighborhood store where you can tell that this place is visited by regulars on a weekly, if not daily, basis. CASH ONLY! But they will accept Venmo or Zelle. Banh Mi were good, although I felt like there was some more vinegar usage than I'm used to. Still, well made classics that you can not go wrong with ordering. And the pricing gives you good value. Simple service. Nothing special, but just keeping in tune with the California "bodega". Ample parking in the lot.

Ask the Community - Dakao Sandwich Two

    What sandwich is highly recommended?

Do they offer Pate Chaud? Is it served fresh or warm when ordered? How much for one or six peices? Thanks

Yes, they do (as of a month ago or so) have pate chaud. I think it's cold. They of course have all the other bakery stuff: "fresh spring rolls with shrimp), gelatins, and they sometimes have baguettes, which are really good.

What day will they start selling Banh Tet (the long cylinder kind) for lunar New Years? Or any other better places?

Yes, it's definitely worth going to if you've never had Vietnamese beef 7 ways or baked catfish…read more There's not many of these types of restaurants around. General for celebratory reasons and it originated from the south as well. You can find many other Vietnamese cuisine out there, but unless you have a bigger Vietnamese population, this is a much more rare find. So when our friend from NY was visiting for Fanime, we had to get this. Though, I will say this to start with, nothing can ever beat my dear Thien An Bo 7 Mon from SoCal. I'm biased and I'm not afraid to say it, but I know that NorCal is lacking in many ways and with that in mind, it makes sense that the prices are higher (rent and costs of operation are much higher in NorCal, I'm sure) and the other differences as well. Regardless, the service was attentive and welcoming and they even chased my bf outside to his car when he foolishly left his card in the restaurant. There is a policy that the 7 course beef is 1 order per person and minimum 2 orders. I have not seen that in SoCal and they let us grossly share 1 order between 3 people, but things might have changed. With that in mind, 2 orders split between 3 people was more than enough. For drinks, my boyfriend got some local brewed IPA and when I sent my dad the picture (he's a Viet refugee), he immediately got triggered by the year that was on the can before I explained to him the origins that were on the label. I got a soda chanh muoi (salted lemon sparkling water and you pour the sparkling soda water from a cold can yourself into the mix in a glass). Refreshing and a sharp salty sour bite in between courses. The 7 course beef came as it would any other restaurant that does it: 1) Goi Bo (House Special Beef Salad) 2) Bo Nhung Dam (Beef in Wine Vinegar Fondue) -Not sure why it's translated this way but it's raw beef slices that have been seasoned in vinegar with some onions on top and you cook it in a hot pot broth. 3) Bo Cha Dum (Steamed Beef Patty) 4) Bo Cuon No Chai (Grilled Beef Sausages) 5) Bo Cuon La Lot (Beef wrapped in Lot leaf) -Easily the favorite of the table. You can never go wrong with leaf wrapped meats as you can see that it is a worldwide dish and phenomenon regardless of the protein and the vegetation used. -Savory and a bit smoky with a kick from the leaves. Good stuff. 6) Bo Nuong Xa (Beef roll with onion and lemon grass) 7) Chao Bo (Beef porridge) - the version I had in SoCal had cute beef alphabet and star pasta soup and I'm not the biggest fan of porridge so this was just okay to me. All the beef was seasoned well and moist, not too dry or tough. Definitely more than enough to share especially with the generous amount of rice paper and veggies to roll in. Again, just my qualm because I'll always compare every Viet 7 beef course with my OG in SoCal, but they had a vertical rice paper water rolling dish that made it easier to wet the rice paper without it getting soggy and without the water getting gross or the bowl taking up too much space. We additionally got vermicelli noodles to stuff our rolls too, which would have been nice to add a little bit of carbs into our meal, but if you're more into protein and veggies, this was good. Overall not bad and a must to try at least once.

They are perfectly fried without being too greasy, and tossed in a sweet and savory fish sauce glaze. The chicken was juicy too. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.
