Open-air restaurant with a super vibey atmosphere that reminds me of Tulum or Bali. The area outside is a little questionable, but the solid food and drinks make up for it. I started off with the cock and bull cocktail. It was bold and strong and hit all the right spots. Kinda tasted like an old fashioned but heavy on the orange flavor. For food we shared 7 plates among 5 people. We got the the empanadas, short rib tostadas, clams and chorizo, and lamb chops. All of them were great. The short rib in the tostadas was juicy and flavorful, but I was a little surprised that each order only came with one tostada, so we had to order 4. Lamb chops were tender and light on the lamb flavor, although I personally prefer more gamey flavors. The clams and chorizo was my favorite dish here. The broth was packed with flavor and the crusty bread it came with just soaked up all the goodness. Delicious food, strong drinks, romantic vibes. I'll definitely be back! read more

Great atmosphere, good food, great service. Came here for a birthday dinner with friends on a Sunday early evening. Made reservations for 5:30 and upon arriving, initially was a bit puzzled as there were no more than 2 parties at the restaurant. But as the night progressed, the tables started to fill up. The bar in the center of the dining room is beautiful, and concocts tons of amazing cocktails. The menu is simple, dishes were all well prepared. Pricing is on the higher end but, I do feel for special occasions it's well worth the experience and atmosphere. Our server was super attentive and did such a wonderful job of recommending and explaining the menu (both food and beverages) and at fhe end of our meal, the manager was so kind in capturing an admittedly gorgeous picture of the group to remember the night with. If you haven't tried DAMA yet, definitely give them a visit! read more

Had dinner at DAMA and it absolutely delivered. The atmosphere feels warm and upscale without being stuffy. The flavors were bold and beautifully balanced, and the cocktails were just as impressive as the food. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Perfect spot for a date night or special evening out. had dinner at your restaurant a few times, but never on a holiday. Had a dinner here, February 13 a day before Valentines. Reservations at 8 PM and I was seated promptly, However, I did not the restaurant until 11 PM due to the tardiness of the meals. This was the worst experience ever . I ordered three small plates , Which they all came 20 to 30 minutes apart from each other I ordered a soda that never came. I ordered a side of veggies, which never came. we took our friends and we were excited to introduce them to this restaurant that we like so much and Dama failed miserably. I was extremely embarrassed. I don't believe Dama has a capacity or is he equipped for a good experience on a holiday like Valentines. read more

The ambiance was very nice and the service was good. My issue was the food. I was very excited about the lamb chops and was grossly disappointed . They were very tough and lacked seasoning. They were extremely bland and for the price point this was the reason we didn't spend more money and double down on a larger dish. I intended to order the dry aged steak, but after the lamb chop situation, the three of us decided to cut our losses. We tried the squash flowers, potatoes and Brussels, short rib tacos, churros, and ground beef empanadas. Out of those items I wouldn't recommend anything except for the short rib taco but you would need to order about 3 to get satisfied. We went to bed still hungry and spent about $200 with tip. The churros were very tasty but for 15$ you are getting one small thin churros cut into 5 - 2 inch pieces. read more

Came to Dama last week for food and drinks. It was delicious. Everything was great. The only bad thing was the service the hostess had. There were plenty of empty tables and only offered a hi tops because there were later reservations. By the time I had finished eating tables were still empty. I can't sit on high top tables for long because of knee problems. We ate left and decided to come back again since the food was delicious. Give it another try. Same thing. Same hostess. Empty restaurant. We left. Won't be coming back. read more

Was invited to have dinner here and it was great! It's located in an unassuming area of the fashion district. The property is very nicely decorated and kept. It has a spacious surrounding area and lots of outside seating. The decor feels modern, open, and green. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. The food was just as good. It's a Mexican inspired place with a touch of Latin to it as well. We had several appetizers and the rotisserie chicken for dinner. We also tried a couple of cocktails and churros for dessert. Everything tasted delicious. Only thing was that the churros were a bit under cooked and gooey in the middle. Overall an excellent experience and would recommend to anyone! read more

I've been looking forward to this quaint venue in the middle of the Fashion District...disappointed! As I sat at the bar, I had a vent blasting away with heat right above my head. Soon after as I was reviewing the menu, a staff member took it away (kinda funny). Soon after...another waiter gave me a menu. Food: Crispy Potatoes - 1 Small slices of potatoes that were crispy and some burnt...brussels sprouts were just ok...condiments were a bit too much (cumin?) It was a mix of confusion. Tostada (beef) - 5 Tasty and tender beef with minimal toppings (mini size) Calamari - 5 Breaded to perfection...topped with pico, serrano and lemon flavors! Mind you...I don't typically order calamari but this little dish was delicious! Beer - 2 Lager was a tad hoppy (known for their cocktails not beer). Temp wasn't up to par (not my favorite). Ambiance is very dim, staff was fine and music was good. Might give it a second try or not. read more

What a great place! Food, drinks, ambiance, all perfect! Food- Whole snapper, empanadas, lamb chops, bruschetta. Favorite had to be the lamp chops and empanadas. Everything had so much flavor. I am very picky with lamb to the point where I don't usually order it, but they cooked it to perfection. The whole snapper was beautiful plated and refreshing. The service was great. My boyfriend and I both work in the restaurant industry in Pasadena. We hardly ever get time off together but our schedules finally coordinated. It was no doubt that we were choosing to go to Dama. We talk about it all of the time. I've even recreated the celery salad at home. It may sound simple but Chef Antonia hit that out of the park. It is incredibly flavorful.we love the lamb and also the clam dish! To top it off the craft cocktails are amazing! On our date night a few nights ago our server was Josh! This is the best Spanish food in LA, you can't beat it! They have everything from a great atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating, fast service, some delicious food, and of course a variety of selection for cocktails. Love the pina coladas here! I am all for tapas and ordering family style so this place is perfect for that. They also have bigger dishes like the paella (you can't miss it!) and a roasted chicken with fries (also very savory). You can't go wrong with no matter what you order. For the tapas I do think the beef cheek tostada is a must and the chicken croquettes too- they literally melt in your mouth. I'd add the empanadas, quesadillas and elote on there too if you come with a bigger group. Guacamole is solid and so are the potatoes. I've come here on multiple occasions and it's consistently good. Prices are fair- especially for the quality. Come for some great food- easily one of my favorite restaurants in LA! read more

Came with mignonette, fresh horseradish, hot sauce & cocktail sauce. A perfect starter. $24 AGUACHILE: my favorite dish of the night! I've never had aguachile with kanpachi (fish) before & loved it! AMAZING! $18 CRISPY SQUASH FLOWERS: although I usually love cheese filled squash blossoms, compared to the other dishes, this was just OK. $15 FLUFFERNUTTER: it was WAY bigger than I anticipated. We could only eat a few bites and then threw in the towel. The outside was like a thick & dense donut? Filled with marshmellow fluff & not much peanut butter & banana. I should've just scooped the inside. I'd pass on this. We both didn't like it. SERVICE (4/5): Our waiter was helpful in telling us his favorites since this was my first time. Came here on a rainy LA night to catch up with a friend. We made reservations and were seated right away, however, the restaurant was quite empty so we could've done without a reservations. They also have street valet parking right outside for $14! Service was friendly and prompt! When we didn't know what to order, the waiter happily gave us some recommendations. As for the food, it kind of fell short for me. Everything was good but nothing really stood out. This goes for the drinks as well. There wasn't a huge selection of cocktails to choose from and the presentation was lacking. We ordered the crispy potatoes, octopus, and the crispy squash flowers. Surrounding location isn't the greatest, but inside is nice! Staff is friendly and helpful. I have been once before nearly 2 years ago and was surprised how little the menu had changed. I was hoping for some newness. In general I will say the drinks are good, and the food is decent, but nothing was particularly memorable. For drinks I tried the Bourbon Gun Club (basically a whiskey sour) and the Commodore #2. Both were good, but at $20 a piece it wasn't anything you corkscrew get elsewhere. For food we shared a bunch of things. We had the corn (this one is pretty good and I'd recommend), the arepas (which I liked, though it was small), the gem salad (didn't care for this one - no real flavor to it), the bread (which was good, but not $18 for two slices good), and the lamb chops (which were decent). For the mains we had the paella and the ribeye. For nearly $100 the ribeye left a lot to be desired. The paella too was just ok - though maybe better if you get it with seafood. For dessert we had the fluffernutter (would not recommend - way too heavy), the banana Sundae (nothing special), the smores sundae (which was good) and the churros (which I would recommend). Overall I can't say anything was particularly bad, but there also wasn't anything memorable or noteworthy. Stay Cheerful read more

Decided to celebrate a birthday dinner at Dama. Parking was easy to find on the street. Not sure if we walked in from the wrong side but we didn't see the sign of the restaurant until we walked in. The place was packed so I'm glad we made reservations beforehand. Everything we ordered from the menu, including our cocktails were delicious. I think the dish that stood out to me was the Aguachile. It was so good I almost licked the plate. Would highly recommend this spot as we'd definitely come back again to try their other menu items! read more

I've always came across this place on Yelp, and finally decided to stop in and I'm glad I did, We ordered a few rounds of drinks and they were really good. We only tried one appetizer which was the squid ink calamari, to my surprise it was really good and tasted more like your normal Calamari than squid ink. It also carried a hint of lime flavor. The vibes, the drinks, the ambience was great. Can't wait to go back (They offer valet, but if you go at night after all the fashion district shops are closed there's plenty of street parking) read more

Even though this restaurant is in a really odd location, not quite art district and surrounded by fashion district establishment it is lowkey a hidden gem. I had multiple dishes here and I have to say all of them were complex in flavors and were a home run. The rotisserie chicken was a major star and so were the whipped beans. The service was great and attentive but not too attentive where you felt annoyed. I would highly recommend this place for anyone that was looking to have a nice meal in a nice establishment as the decor inside was also relaxing and nice to look at but did not feel over the top. read more

Reserved dinner at 6 on a Saturday. Place was kinda empty when we sat down but got busier as the night went on. They have "outdoor" seating but it's enclosed by plastic/cloth with heaters so it doesn't get cold. They have a nice bar in the middle. Good drink selection. They have everything from smoky to sweet. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. She recommended the calamari. It's different from ordinary calamari as it comes with cilantro/onion, which was tasty but I thought it was all right. I really liked the croquettes. It was really flavorful and creamy. We also got the clams&chorizo and the red snapper. My friend rally liked the clams. The sauce was very good when you dip the bread. The red snapper had a nice kick. We walked to the restaurant but we had to walk through some very sketchy streets. read more

Dama is beautiful. The covered patio was nice and toasty. The ambiance was top notch. The drinks were okay, but sadly the food did not knock me off my feet. We tried the empanadas, lamb chops, crispy potatoes, beef tostada, churros, and the crispy squash flowers. The empanadas were my favorite. I loved the light dough and delicious beef filling. Although I was excited to try the lamb chops, I found them a bit chewy and tough. The Brussels and potatoes were interesting, but not super memorable. The crispy squash flowers were light and filled with goat cheese so the whole dish sort of melts in your mouth. The churros were a nice sweet treat. I also enjoyed the tangy beef short rib tostada which we added to the order later. read more

Let's talk about it! Reserved a party for my b day. Excited to try this place out as it was recommended by a friend. The area IS super sketch but they do have valet for $14. Ambiance is chill, music playing on LOW so don't expect even a light vibe. Server was nice, explained the "smalls" were shareable for 2 ppl at 15min wait and "large" options could take anywhere from 30-45min to prepare?? mind you our reservation was at 915p We opted to order "smalls" and the table was underwhelmed. Nothing really stood out or was very flavorful. Wanted to enjoy the empanadas but bland. Seafood tostada was... decent. Tried several different dishes and general consensus was... MEH OH!! Don't order wine or Prosecco because they'll charge you $16 for a wine tasting portion smh Then to top it off ... they offered NO birthday juj!! I came to DAMA with a group of four. The food was delicious. We ordered the guacamole, aguachile, taco flight, and the tomato toast. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The ambiance was very nice, with reggae music playing and a lively vibe since it was taco night. However, the service was disappointing. We waited about fifteen minutes for our server, who seemed preoccupied with a large party. In the meantime, we had to flag down a busser just to get our waters refilled. Eventually, our waiter came back, but the lack of attention left a bad impression. This was my second time here. While the food and setting are great, the poor service makes me unsure if I will return. read more

I had been meaning to try this place and came here finally for a girls night out. Reservations are easy to make and I did like the ambiance of the restaurant. Service was pretty friendly and even though there is street parking (limited), I preferred valet parking due to the part of downtown this restaurant is located in. Now for the part which matters the most when I'm dining out: food! We ordered a number of dishes and most were lackluster. The paella especially left a lot to be desired. It wasn't bad but wasn't something I would order again. I did like the white bean appetizer, it was pretty good. Again, it's a cute restaurant but I wasn't blown away by the food. read more

Came here for Galentine's day and this place did not disappoint! Food - We had a set course meal which everything was delicious. Starting with the first few appetizers such as the Aguachiles, Corn, Fried Quesadilla, and Empanadas, everything was delicious. Although I was a bit worried that the set menu was not going to be enough because we only got 1-2 pieces each for the appetizers and I tend to eat a lot lol. Then came the main meals! Rib Eye was delicious and cooked perfectly with the chimichurri sauce they provided. Also both the Rotisserie Chicken and Crispy Pork Shank was so juicy and tender. All of those three. I would say the Rib eye and Rotisserie were in tie for first place. Then our last item which was the Churros came. I was not a big fan of these and I'm a huge churro fan so that was a bit disappointing ending our meal with that, but otherwise, everything else was amazing! Service - Service was amazing! The team helped the server with anything he needed. Refills, bussing and clearing, and bringing us new plates, and also running our food! 5 stars forsure because of the service! Ambiance - we sat in the patio and we were the only table which was perfect. We had the heat lamps right under us so it wasn't cold at all. Service, ambiance and food always exceeds my expectations. Definitely worth the trip from the West Side of LA, especially if you have out of towners visiting. Valet parking is convenient and safe. Came here over the weekend with some friends and was surprised to find such a lively area in the middle of Fashion District. DAMA staff were very friendly and the restaurant is beautiful inside. Although maybe a little too dark at night? Food was amazing. They have tons of different small plates and a handful of larger plates, all to share for the table. Since we had a larger group, we were able to order a lot of different dishes. My favorite was the rotisserie chicken large plate and the crispy potato small plate. Located in Downtown Fashion District, DAMA is a popular restaurant and bar. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. There's plenty of seating but I highly suggest you make reservations as this place tends to be busy. My party and I ordered the Aguachile, Calamari, Empanadas, and cocktail drinks. Our waiter was great, drinks were ok, food was served quickly. The aguachiles were my favorite. They really had a kick to them. The decor is really cute, but parking can be a bit challenging. There were definitely some great things about the food at Dama but there's also a few things about the experience that could be improved. The highlights of this tapas-style dinner for me were the lamb chops and the crispy pork shank. The lamb chops were super juicy and the pork shank fell right off the bone. These were definitely shareable and delicious. The fish taco unfortunately comes with a single taco which is very hard to share. I felt that was an impractical dish for a tapas menu. The empanadas are quite frankly the smallest empanadas I have ever seen. It's almost comical they would think a group let alone a pair would be able to divide these for a tapas plate. The neighborhood is mysterious to me, sort of pricey grunge & hipster, iykwim. But! Once you are inside, you are in a completely different world. Bright, clean, genteel, muted, with dappled sunlight dripping through various apertures and alighting in a soft glow here and there on shining metal tables. It's beautiful. Some catchy upbeat contempo-pop music streamed steadily at just the right volume overhead. I found myself resisting the temptation to get up and dance. There are several rooms from which to choose, but I wanted to be seated on the wine-red suede banquette that gave me a view of the whole restaurant and out onto the tree-canopied street. From the time we arrived to the moment we left about an hour later, we were showered with warm smiles and attentive service. And the food? Exquisite. See my pictures. It was hard to choose. One tiny disappointment was they were out of the biscuits that I wanted to start with, but I enjoyed the crusty tender Clark Street bread slices served with warm creamery butter instead. She looked sour and annoyed. Definitely not welcoming or gracious whatsoever. She asked if we had a reservation. Told her no. I ignored her demeanor at that point. Another female employee was standing next to her. Danni turned her back to us to whisper to her. It was odd and awkward. Bad vibes. The other woman walked us to the back of the restaurant and seated us inside, at a table by an open exterior door directly in the sun and close to the sidewalk. I asked if we could be seated elsewhere & the young lady said, "I was told to seat you here." I asked her to ask if we could sit elsewhere since the entire large restaurant and patio were completely open and it was only 5:15 on a Monday. Only after I raised these points did the girl finally say she'd ask Danni. We stood there while she walked back, she and Danni talked, they looked at us for awhile and the girl came back to finally seat us elsewhere. Our waiter was wonderful and the meatballs were deliciously unique so I gave two stars for them. My daughter and I ordered the lemon pasta, two orders of the meatballs, salad and carbonara. The whole experience was ruined by how it started so unpleasantly, making us feel very unwelcome for some inexplicable reason. The entire time we were there, only a couple of parties had come in to dine. The majority of tables were available throughout the entire time. The unpleasant interaction with Danni made me feel really uncomfortable and it was hard to relax and enjoy the dinner. At the end of the dinner, I asked a female employee for the hostess' name and rather than giving me her name, she said she'd go get her. I watched her walk to the hostess, they both talked, looked at us and the hostess stood there staring at me. I approached her and asked her to chat if she had a minute. I did not want to resort to writing a review without giving her a chance first. I told her the way she started our dinner was really distasteful and I wanted her to be aware how her behavior makes customers feel and colors their experience at the restaurant. I tried to discuss it with her but saw that her attitude was not going to change. Super disappointing. I hope others don't experience this and I don't understand why she behaved this way. Complete waste of my time and money. I unfortunately cannot recommend this place based on my experience.

We had a perfect view of the activity below us on Fig, a nice vantage on the scene within the restaurant, and a nice view of the sunset. The space inside Checker Hall is warm and rich in texture. The unique position of the bar adds many points of visual interest. We started off with drinks, all of which were excellent. I had a classic martini and another guest had a really complex cocktail with a big chunk of dried pineapple. They made us a special request iced tea, and the coffee service was great as well. All the food was delicious. We started off with the feta, which was amazing. This dish could use one more piece of the delicious pita. Two of us chose the salmon skewer and another went with the basmati rice. Each of us was very satisfied with the flavors and portions. Throughout the evening we had excellent service from Gage. Thanks for adding to our pleasant experience. We did not check out desserts as we'd already committed to Foster's on the way home. We will try them next time. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. The cauliflower was a bit overcooked. Salmon kebob - fish was very overcooked. No seasoning or flavor. We didn't finish it. We also had a beer (they have the Craftsman 1903 which was great) and a gin and tonic which was good. Overall - I was expecting more. Had heard a lot of good things about the place. I did like the space. Would have liked a table closer to the window (there were several open but the hostess sat us far away from there in a corner even though we had a reservation). There is a Jeni's ice cream shop across the street so if none of the desserts are speaking to you, that is another option. Would probably come back to sit at the bar but likely not for dinner.

I recently dined at Dama and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! Every dish we ordered was nothing short of phenomenal. To start, we ordered the Strawberry Daiquiri, which was expertly crafted and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The oysters were incredibly fresh and the ceviche was packed with flavor. The white whipped beans were a unique and tasty addition to our meal, and the empanadas were hands down the best I have ever tasted in Los Angeles. The standout dish of the night, however, was the ribeye. Cooked to perfection, the meat was tender and full of flavor. The dish was perfectly complemented by the street corn, which was also a highlight of our meal. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients at Dama is truly impressive and it shows in every dish. Our bartender, Oscar, was another highlight of our experience. He was professional, personable, and made us feel like we were dining among friends. Despite a bit of a wait for our table--about 12 minutes--which made us feel a little rushed, the overall experience was great. The restaurant had a busy vibe, but the moderate noise level was perfectly fine for a family setting. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the Oysters, which were fresh and served with coriander mignonette, cocktail sauce, horseradish, and lemons--absolutely delicious! The Fish Tacos with striped sea bass, avocado crema, and a touch of lime were packed with flavor, and the Lamb Chops with olive salsa verde and arugula were cooked to perfection. The outdoor seating was beautifully decorated, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Prices were fair and reasonable, making it an excellent choice for families. If you are not from LA then the location may seem a bit unusual and off the map right until you arrive, but it is worth the trip. I had dinner here and I ordered the oxtail tostada (incredible), a delicious and perfectly seasoned oxtail onion and spice blend with a few pickled vegetables on a crispy tostada. Great contrasting textures, each mouthful was better than the last. The celery salad was also fantastic, a bit of a spin on a Caesar salad but actually much fresher and more interesting, with fresh lemon and scallions and a perfect dressing. The grilled octopus was on point, the octopus was cooked perfectly and the flavors were good. Ended the meal with the "cookie" which is easily a nice shareable dessert for two. Only penalty is for the mosquitoes here! Weirdly persistent, the staff seems aware and works hard to help. Most other guests did not seem to notice much. Pumpkin florets are the perfect light snack if you're craving something fried. Whole sea bass is not the best, but a fair share of the main course for four people. The dish is prepared from a large number of fresh herbs. All in all, Dama is perfect for a party with a group, a couple or business. Our server was very friendly, and the small dishes looked appealing. Their drink and cocktail menu also felt thoughtfully curated. Had a great meal with my friends here on a Friday night. The food was delicious. We ate family style and got like 1/3 of the menu. We really were blown away by the service, and specifically the diligence of our waiter, Cindy (great name, easy to remember). in a party of 5, we had a vegan, vegetarian, and someone who was gluten free. Cindy made us up all individual menus that detailed what was safe for each of us, as well what items could be adjusted to separate out items or replace things. So grateful to be able to order the paella and have it work for everyone at the table! An excellent menu made that much better with her and the team's amazing service. The bar program also was great.
