Steak and Spicy Eggplant Pot Rice
    Winn H.

I visited Damsot with a friend to try their steak and spicy eggplant pot rice. After hearing so may good reviews, I really did need to! They do have parking and validation if needed, though there are two big parking structures nearby, so parking isn't an issue! Once you walk in, you're greeted by light brown, woody interiors, and the light only makes it ever more relaxing. The staff were attentive with getting orders in. After placing down our orders, they walked us through how to enjoy their pots. We later learned that our sauces were missing, which for steak was a HUGE game changer! For the most expensive and premier item, we really expected a little more... maybe it was a busy night, though there were no lines. The spicy eggplant pot rice was tasty and probably my preferred of the two. Something about an eggplant with chew... nothing beats it! The steak was a bit on the tougher side, cooked a little over medium. For both pot rices, I felt that the entrees were a bit weak on flavor, almost as if it was "too safe." Unfortunately, neither felt too exciting to eat. My favorite part of the meal was probably the miso soup and being humbled to really use that tea to finish off the charred rice. (I may have been rebellious and overzealous in trying to go at it raw... dog.)

We ordered the beef bean sprouts pot rice, steak pot rice, and mackerel pot rice. I really like kamameshi, so I actually came here twice. Everything I tired was delicious both times. The service was also very good. I would definitely recommend this place.

My friend brought me here to have some lunch because she said it was so good and I had to try it. And she was right! Once we arrived, there was parking downstairs which was validated for a portion of the time. Once we got upstairs to the restaurant we had to wait maybe five or 10 minutes while they were clearing up the table then we were seated. Once we were seated, the staff introduced the menu to us and explained how to enjoy the entrées. I ordered the beef and my friend got the salmon. It comes in a cute set with a couple appetizers and soup. And overall it was super tasty and I can't wait to come back and try a different entrée again.

Damsot in Ktown served sotbap (Korean stone pot rice) and I've been craving this for a while! The menu isn't huge, which I actually appreciate--it keeps the concept focused and not overwhelming. You're really there for the stone pot rice! The crispy rice at the bottom was perfectly browned and so satisfying to finish with the barley tea poured into the pot afterward. I ordered the beef belly bowl and especially loved the chicken karaage on the side--super flavorful and crispy. The main dish itself was delicious though I personally wouldn't wait over an hour for it again. We went on a Friday night, so that probably contributed to the long wait, but the restaurant also seemed a bit understaffed. One really sweet touch was the probiotic drink they give at the end (similar to Yakult). Overall, the meal was satisfying and worth trying--I'd just probably come back during non-peak hours next time. Oh and I'd probably try the spicy eggplant next!

Parking in Ktown is always a struggle but luckily they have a garage downstairs that you can park at. The fee is not completely waived but discounted we paid $5 for about an hour vs $20 if you didn't get it validated which I think is a good deal to not deal with the hassle of street parking. We came on a Saturday afternoon and only waited about 10 minutes! I ordered their steak pot rice and the server kindly explained to us how to enjoy our meal when they brought over the tray. The steak itself is a little tough and from how this place raved about this particular meat, I would have expected it to be more tender. Overall was still delicious but not worth how much extra you pay compared to the other dishes. Next time I would want to give their spicy eggplant or beef belly a try as recommended from other reviewers.

Damsot has been on my list for a while and it did not disappoint. I got the eggplant pot rice and my partner got the steak pot rice and we were both really happy with our orders. The eggplant was cooked perfectly and the rice at the bottom gets that crispy layer which makes the whole thing so much better. We kept stealing bites off each other's plates. The food is really the main event here and it delivers. Already thinking about going back to try the spicy eggplant version because if it's anything like what I had I know it's going to be also good. Parking is easy compared to restaurants in LA but we still had to pay 5 bucks with validation. It's situated in a small plaza with mainly other Korean restaurants.

The steak is what went viral here but what you need to come here for is the spicy eggplant and pork. I still can't stop thinking about how flavorful the sauce was and it coated the rice very well. On the other hand, the steak was on the tougher side and didn't make me wanna go back in for seconds after I sampled it. It's limited to 15 portions for lunch and 15 portions for dinner and they still had it available when we went for dinner on a Saturday night at 8:20 p.m., so maybe that was a sign. All of them had perfectly crispy, golden bottoms and each bowl was made to order. The mackerel was also good and a close second, only because the sauce was so good in the eggplant one. We also ordered the salmon sashimi as a shared appetizer, and it interestingly came with a creamy sauce in addition to soy sauce. It was packed, though, and we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated after waiting on the benches outside. It made me stressed that the waiter looked stressed and kept rushing back and forth between tables since it was so busy. I appreciated that they gave us the Korean version of Yakult at the end to end our meal.

STREET PARKING Visited on a Friday night and surprisingly had no wait. There's street parking available and plenty of restaurants around this little plaza: boiling crab, 85 degree bakery, and more.. even Hmart across the street :). Once you arrive, you can put your name on their waitlist. INSIDE & SERVICE The inside was nice and cozy, clean, and we were seated immediately. The server was also very kind in letting us get seated first even though our full party wasn't here. NOTE: Their menu states their steak rice pot is limited to 15 orders for lunch and 15 orders for dinner, but this only applies to their Korea location and not LA. They just kept it on the menu so they didn't have to reprint :-) FOOD I tried their steak rice pot for $26.99 and it was very delicious. The steak was medium rare, tender, and perfectly cubed and lightly salted. I thought some chunks were too big in which I would need to cut them, but they were pretty tender I didn't have to! The meal even came with a raw egg, side of seasoned salad, wasabi, kimchi, radish, spicy squid, miso soup, and barley tea. The rice was flavorful paired perfectly with the meat and runny egg along with all the delicious sides. They recommend scooping the rice out to your bowl to enjoy and then pouring the barley tea into the rice pot with the leftover crunchy and crispy rice on the edges and cover with the wooden lid to soften the rice and enjoy. I really enjoy barley tea so this was good and also was great to just drink the tea itself. They ended the meal with a refreshing Yakult and my tummy was happy. OVERALL Would definitely recommend stopping by and trying their steak rice pots :) and thank you Damsot for the wonderful experience!

I visited Damsot Saturday morning and it was already a bit busy, but it did not disappoint. We ordered spicy eggplant, chicken, beef loin, and steak pot rice. We thought all of them were great. I also really liked how they gave us yakult to end the meal! Staff was great and the vibes were cute inside.

Have been wanting to check this place out for awhile and was great I got to come in here to check out their steak pot. Walking in, totally felt like I was back in Seoul. It's got the look and feel of a lot of the restaurants that are in metro Seoul and the meal sets are made that way too. Full experience with the hot bowl of rice that creates the crust when you press it into the pot and let it sit in and cover it and you eat the beef with the sides/banchan. It's traditional to pour the tea into the crust that the rice makes and eat it afterwards for a great digestive soup at the end of the meal. Vibes are casual... wooden bench and chair seating in a no frills but very clean restaurant, fast service and very nice employees. Overall definitely enjoyed it. Maybe I'd only say the beef wasn't as tender and as flavorful as I expected but it was still really good and worth checking out. Some of the other dishes my group got looked really good so I'd definitely look to get something else for sure next time. This spot is in a plaza that does have its own parking or you can try to find metered or street parking. Koreatown can be a bit tough as these days everything is paid parking so just be prepared for that no matter what (or watch for signs!).

Damn Damsot! In the heart of Ktown, my buddy recommended this Korean pot rice spot and it was super good. I went on the weekend for lunch and it wasn't crowded at all at opening. I've been reading online that it's always packed but luckily we were good. The Steak Pot Rice caught my eye as it's limited per day or for lunch/dinner. They only serve 15 of them for lunch. I asked the employee and he said he recommended the beef belly one more. Surprisingly I ordered this one and the beef wasn't too fatty and I liked the crispy rice in it. When you put your meal from the pot to the stone pot, your supposed to put the barley tea inside the first pot where the rice is stuck to it. I wasn't intrigued so I put the tea in but didn't want to drink it. I'm sure its good, it just didn't seem too appetizing haha. Would come back forsure!

Located in the Honeymee plaza, parking is $5 with validation up to 3 hours. If you take the elevator up in the center, it takes up directly up to the restaurant storefront. Walking in, the interior and clean and minimal. We ordered our own individual pots, so I got the beef belly pot and others got a steak and a salmon pot. It didn't take too long for our order to be ready, but the salmon pot came out first. The portion size is pretty on point for the price they offered. Everything was pretty sizeable for the price. Next came the beef belly and lastly the steak pot (which they only make a 15 a day!). Starting off, it reminded me of a meal set in Japan! Especially the use of tea to mix the rice and protein. I had the beef belly and it's already quite flavorful! Very flavorful and crispy. With the tea, it's does make it feel less heavy, but hearty, which was a really nice combination. Everyone else seemed to have enjoyed their entree a lot! The miso soup and the sides were a nice touch to complete this meal set. Everyone really enjoyed that I picked this place out haha this was really good! Would definitely come back again. The meal is pretty filling for lunch.

I came with a few friends here for dinner after a nice day out. I got the Spicy Eggplant Pot Rice as recommended by lots of yelpers here. Despite seeing the comments from people saying that the dish was flavorful, I unfortunately did not get the same experience. I mixed the bowl and it still tasted lackluster. Service was decent and the place was packed when i went. I'll try something else if I happen to come by another time.

What seemed like a deceptively simple bowl was one of the most delicious and flavorful meals I've had - I'll be thinking about my bowl for a long time. I got the plain kalgaksu, mainly because it included pork potstickers. The anchovy broth isn't fishy (which I was concerned about), it's deep and full in a way that's hard to describe. It penetrates the noodles and potatoes well. The broth is similar if not the same between most bowl types. The cold noodles were also delicious, which a couple of my friends ordered. Quite large portions, as just about everyone had to take some home. They also have bibimbap if you're craving a rice based meal instead. I can't wait to come back - maybe not on a Saturday night next time so I don't have to look so long for parking!

I really wanted authentic Korean food that was not kbbq and not tofu and this place delivered! This restaurant is in a small strip mall. The strip mall has other Korean food options. They have a valet parking system of sorts but we didn't pay, we self parked. The attendant told us we were fine. It was approx 9pm when we arrived and also a week night. I have no idea how much valet parking is here. We were a small party of two. Upon arrival, we were notified they were out of RICE. Um..what?? That's a good problem (for them to have) but not for consumers. I feel this really limited our options to just soup. I honestly didn't want soup but there wasn't much else we could order. The bowls were large and came out piping hot. It was a satisfying meal and not too heavy. The price point was on the pricey side. Our waiter told us business has not been the same post covid. Some dishes are between $40-$60. I asked for a soup and they were able to make it less spicy. My friend got a soup with dumplings in it. He put a good amount of soy sauce to give the broth some life. Also, the banchan is on point. We asked for a refill and devoured the second portions. If you wanna impress friends with Korean food, bring them here! Its a casual place.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
