Place was clean on the inside. Actually felt comfortable sitting down. Bathroom was cleanish. Was surprised when I seen the food. I was not expecting them to be that big. Fresh!!! Flavor!!! This was my first time trying out the food. I had the 2 piece fillet. Because I know real catfish, when I opened the container, I instantly knew the fillets were NOT real catfish, it's swai. Good point: drive-thru. Let me say my rating is solely based on the gumbo. On the menu, it's listed as seafood when in fact it's chicken and sausage with some shrimp thrown in it. It was a bit sagey/ bayleafy to me, so I'm not really a fan. Good point: it has just enough spice, not overbearing. Good point: it's $5.99 and you get a decent amount. Most of everything I have tried here is good. The fish has a great flavor, however it is fried harder than I would prefer. You MUST ask for seasoning on the fries if you like that because otherwise they will come without it. The people are friendly and always willing to accommodate. But beware, if you are in a hurry you may want to come back later... there is always a wait. That's lets you know your food is fresh. I have never gone inside to order, so I'm not sure what about the atmosphere inside. If you haven't tried, it is worth the trip! read more

Whew! I was craving seafood and got some! Thank you guys. The food was really spot on.

Food poisoning.......I got the shrimp fried rice and egg rolls and I have not be well all day. Had it for lunch and got a really bad headache right after. By the time I got home I was nauseous. I have not been able to even keep water down. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! read more

Delicious catfish. The filets were big and they had super crunchy breading which we love. The shrimp were just as good. We had hush puppies that were in an unexpected shape (I'm used to seeing them fried in a ball) but they tasted as expected and were good for dipping if you're into that. We got this order to go (Coronavirus time), and they didn't skimp on the amount of sauce they gave us. I almost always run out of sauce when we get food to go. But not here. Loved it. Came here during their grand opening, and the line was out the door! Yet, for a grand opening with all the chaos, things went by pretty quickly. Food wise, we ordered fried oysters, fried chicken, and fried fish. My favorite definitely was the fried chicken. It was so juicy! I also enjoyed the oysters. My wife liked the fried fish. They definitely put something in the batter, because I felt like I didn't need extra sauce in the fish. Beer was cheap, and the place was new. Would go again for sure. read more

Had been watching & waiting with much interest to try this place and on 10.8.2019 decided to give it a go.. and I cannot say that I'll be back. It was still a bit of steady flow both in and out, and the staff was on point - super friendly & super nice.. but the food was a total wash & waste of my funds (my husband's rather). He ordered the chicken strips n fries; I opted for the oyster po boy. Was so hungry and so disappointed. Got home and found 1) the chicken strips , while there was a good # of them included, were over fried, a bit dry, and as a result very dark, borderline burnt. 2) the po boy (and I'll admit I'm a bit harsh, being a native La girl, but they too were over cooked, had a dirty taste to them, and the batter used was just too heavy for a delicate oyster. The pickles had no flavor; there was no or not much mayo or dressing... just awful. 3) the fries on both orders were like cardboard and had absolutely no flavor or seasoning. Sadly, we both trashed the meals after a couple of meals - hard earned $$ wasted.. I was thoroughly disappointed. If this place is same as the Dan's located on Pleasant Run.. I'm not understanding why the food is so vastly different. I hope this place works out for others; I may check back to see if there's improvement at a much later time. read more

This is my 1first time to eat at Dan's seafood and chicken at location on 8360 S.Polk Street per a friend recommendation. They have 3 locations . It is really, really good and very fair price for seafood. They have great Combo shrimp rice......Sea food Fresh and very hot when you get your food. They only cook when you order...No pre cook. I love #4 four fish fillet...very yummy. The service is friendly and nice. Now they only have food to go . Can't wait to go inside to dine..They also have beer and frozen margarita drink...so delicious with the seafood. I had 3 drinks myself...Will come back again soon for my birthday. read more

5 stars for the shrimps!!!! Magnificent!!! They're jumbo size and only cost $10. Although I love spicy foods, I wished they forewarned others they're spicy. Popular to contrary belief, not all black people like spicy foods. The chicken tasted as if it was cooked in the fish grease so I won't be ordering that again. The fish is pretty huge.
