Great food - I really recommend it. We were craving Korean food one night and came to dine indoors. We ordered a seafood pancake, a dolsot bibimbap, and a soondubu. Everything had huge portions and tasted great. They also had a big set of tasty side dishes. We couldn't stop eating and still had leftovers for the next day. It wasn't very busy on Sunday evening, so it's pretty convenient to come dine in. I prefer that to waiting at one of the other restaurants down the street. read more

One of my favorites is the tofu soup with ramen. It's not watery like many places; it's packed with flavor. It beats the best of what the Los Angeles Koreatown has to offer. I'm honest about this. The side dishes are excellent too. I often go alone for lunch and I still get the same amount of side dishes as if there were 4 of us. Clean and friendly. Absolutely recommend for price and quality. ** The following review reflects my outdoor dining experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** What a smart idea for the Temescal neighborhood association to hold an "urban picnic" on a recent Sunday and block off the restaurant row stretch of Telegraph off 51st Street. Otherwise Jamie W. and I wouldn't have paid attention to the variety of eateries here, especially overlooked during the pandemic. One such spot was this newish Korean spot which took over the late, lamented Casserole House. I remember they served a mammoth helping of steamed pig's feet which I attempted to conquer myself. Well, sure enough, over as I returned eight years later, I was immediately and unsurprisingly drawn to the $30 Bo Ssam. Pricy yes but not for the quantity, and this time, I had Jamie to split it with, one of the benefits of marriage, being able to convince your spouse to eat a side of pig. The restaurant set up quite a few well separated tables onto the street and a few smaller ones on the sidewalk. We took one on the sidewalk in order to avoid the passing groups staring at the food. Our order started with the requisite Banchan. It was a rainy day in Oakland and this meal hit the spot! Ordered the galbi and sundubu combo which came with a bunch of banchan. The galbi was sweet and smoky. Perfectly meaty and fatty. The sundubu was good but not great. Could have used a few pinches of salt but otherwise still hit the spot. Also this mom and pop had really kind service even though I was just picking up food. Was craving for some Korean food from Daol Tofu today so picked up lunch at this spot. We placed an order through GrubHub at 11:20 AM. Because the order was kind of big (meal for 4 including myself), the time our order would be ready by was estimated to be between 12:00-12:20 PM. My family ordered: 1) Galbi + Yachae Sundubu 2) Dak Gul + Yachae Sundubu 3) Ramen Sundubu and 4) Kimchi Al Dolsot for myself. The order came with a box of various Banchan to share. Note: the streets around Daol Tofu are going through some construction, so driving around and looking for parking may be a little harder than usual. We picked up our order right around 12 PM. Didn't see anyone at counter, but our order was labeled and ready to go, so it was a quick in and out. A bottle of hand sanitizer was available to use. Their Banchan changes from time to time. This time the box of Banchan included some potatoes (sweet), cabbage kimchi, bean sprouts, fish cakes, and some broccoli. All of them were tasty, but my preference usually leans towards fish cakes and kimchi. The bean sprouts were a favorite among my siblings. It's coated and/or coated with a bit of sesame oil, so it makes it slightly fragrant. As for my Kimchi Al Dolsot, it's my first time opting for this Dolsot, but no regrets! It was so good! Just a tad bit saltier than I would have liked, but overall, it was beautifully put together and made. The fried egg was just a tad runny, which was perfect. There were lots of mushrooms, cabbage kimchi, seaweed, and variety of other cooked veggies, just to name a few. The fish roe adds a really nice color to the mix. The rice was amazingly crunchy. I'm not exactly sure how they pulled off the crunchy rice with a takeout order, but they did it, and they did it well. You could probably split this into two separate meals if you wanted to. I usually get their soup here, but everything that I've tried from this place so far has been really good. Will definitely come back again when I'm craving for some comfort Korean food. read more

My new go-to spot for soondubu, jeon, and banchan. Starting off with the banchan, it looks like they've downsized a bit post-pandemic, but you still get a healthy amount of typical Korean side dishes / more so than other places. All very good, and honestly, a meal in itself! For the main, I got the Sogogi Sundubu (beef) medium spicy. Finished to the last drop. SO comforting. I also tried the Dakgogi Dolsot Bibimbop (chicken), and it came loaded with your classic veggies and chicken, accompanied with Korean chili sauce. A common theme at Daol was the healthy portion sizes - I think the Bibimbop could be shared between two somewhat hungry folks. I'm also a huge jeon / pancake fan, and the Kimchi Jeon here was really good! Crispy outside with lots of kimchi throughout. I also appreciated how it was pre-cut. One order will probably be sufficient to share for a group of 4. Can't wait to try the Haemul Jeon next time I go. And finally, the value: I already mentioned the generous portion sizes, but the prices are also very reasonable for the Bay and considering all the banchan you get. I'll definitely go back for the Sundubu, but I also look forward to trying their other items (BBQ, Naeng Myeon, Kal Yugaejang, Bo Sam) in the future! read more

I'm always on the hunt for good Korean spots​ because I just LOVE the countless complimentary banchans that come with a​ typical Korean meal. Banchans are the small side dishes that usually include kimchee, fried anchovies, and a bunch of different vegetarian items. I had 11 banchans here! Yup, a whopping total of 11 different banchans here for just one hungry person...ME! In other restaurants,​ you might only get just a few. I love the idea of having 11 different items without any of the dishwashing! Who doesn't love that? I sure did! ***Tofu Dolsot ($14.00)*** In addition to enjoying a vast amount of banchans, I also really enjoyed my entree, the Tofu Dolsot. For just $14.00, I got a complimentary cup of broth and a ginormous sizzling hot stone bowl filled with generous amounts of veggies (mushrooms were my fave) and pan-fried tofu. It also came with a raw egg for you to crack, or you can request a cooked egg. A squeeze bottle of hot sauce is also available if you want to add some kick. The BEST part though, and why I love dolsots, was the perfect​ crispy scorched rice at the bottom! They did a great job with this! It wasn't a bit burnt and I didn't have to work at scraping it off the bottom, as I sometimes do at other K-spots. I was totally starved and polished the dolsot off all by myself, but it can easily feed two. Just be sure to keep your hands off the crazy hot hot hot stone bowl or your fingers will be scorched like the crispy rice! Seriously. The stone bowl was so hot that it sizzled for several minutes after they placed it​ in front of me and was still warm after I finished my dinner. Nothing fancy here. Ambiance is minimal and dated, but ​service was friendly. Daol is located on Oakland's Telegraph Avenue, among the dizzying array of other Korean options nearby. Rest assured that you'll get a solid authentic and reasonably priced meal here. Tip #1: Check-in on Yelp to unlock your Yelp check-in offer for a FREE soda! I can't say enough great things about Daol Tofu. We had a big event for work a few weeks ago and wanted to provide our attendees with authentic Korean breakfast. The staff was incredible attentive and worked with us throughout the way to make sure we had everything we needed. Needless to say, everyone who attended the event LOVED the food. First trying mul naengmyeon and I was not a fan, but I loved the banchan! Free refills of course and the barley tea was delicious. My friend loves the naengmyeon! This has been our go-to Korean spot for spicy squid (Ojingeo Bokkeum) and Kalbi. Was so sad to hear that they no longer have their famous squid dish here anymore. Ordered through UberEats since I had a promotion, and was super happy with the food! I got the bibim naengmyeon which is korean spicy cold noodles, and also a side of kimchi for just having around. It also came with an assortment of banchan, which were all really fresh and seemed homemade! The noodles were amazing--thin and chewy, and the spicy sauce added to it was so good. It also came with half an egg, beef slices, apple slices, radish and cucumber. All of it came together super well, and it was actually a bit spicier than I expected. There were about 9-10 side dishes and they were all delicious. My favorite ones were the potato and dried anchovies. It was so good that I ended up buying an order to go. We ordered japchae, spicy pork, and octopus rice cake. The portion was huge and it even came with a side of soup. The food was just okay. Japchae didn't have a lot of flavors and spicy pork wasn't flavorful either. I would try something else next time. Overall, this place is decent for the price of food and portion size. Parking can be tough in the neighborhood -- there is a small lot around the corner (just four spots). It seems like people maybe do more carry-out than dine-in, so it's been easy to get a table inside. More empty than I would expect given the high quality of the food but perhaps I've been going at off-hours. Very reliable, delicious neighborhood spot. I look forward to trying more of their dishes. Our toddler loves the steamed beef dumplings, my favorite is the seafood tofu soup, and my husband loves the dol sot (bibimbop in a hot clay pot). I definitely needed some soondubu (Korean soft tofu soup) after a cold and rainy day in the Bay Area. This place really hit the spot with their delicious and comforting food! I came around 8 PM and was seated right away. I got the short rib and soondubu combo and wanted to upgrade my soondubu to the spam & dumpling one. However, the waitress misunderstood my order and I actually got two soondubu. Not a big deal because the food was good, but I definitely didn't want to pay $14 for more food. I also got the seafood pancake which was divine! It was packed with mussels and octopus. The service here is pretty slow. It is a mom and pop establishment so I try to be more patient. My husband and I came in for dinner on a Monday night to a mostly empty restaurant and ordered: Tteokbokki - yummy and chewy rice cakes. The sauce was more tangy than spicy. A few piece of fish cake scattered here and there. I enjoyed the inclusion of cabbage and carrots too. Haemul Dolsot - omg this was the best thing on the table. I love seafood, rice, and anything spicy and this hit on all 3! The rice had good texture and especially the more charred bits on the bottom. Good portions of seafood and veggies too. 6/24/22 I liked our server at first because she was nice to us, and brought many extras to us, many for my 2.5yr old kid like seaweed snacks while he waited for the food, and a yakult drink later that we didn't order. But the kindness wasn't enough to offset the worse-than-average Korean food... 1. Jjin Man Du $10 "steamed beef dumpling (8pcs)": It was fine, but totally tastes like the frozen kind you can buy at Korean and Chinese supermarkets. It's not the huge handmade types you'll find at nicer Korean places. The skin appears to be won-ton style, but cut round. Anyway, tastes fine but cheap. 3/10 2. Mul Naeng Myeon $15 "cold noodles and sliced beef in a chilled [illegible]": Completely standard in all ways. Hit the spot for my gf who was craving this, but the soup wasn't as flavorful as some, and the noodles were completely standard. Pork was dry (but it's always dry at 95% of Korean places.) 5/10 3. Haemul Jeon $17 "seafood pancake": I liked it just cause it was fried crisp and wasn't too bready, but objectively it wasn't comparable to nice versions. For one, the only seafood I could find was squid. No clams. No mussels, oysters, fish, whatever... just squid. If there was anything else, it was microscopic. 4/10 4. Galbi $30 "served with steamed rice, house soup, [illegible]": Not good for the price. The beef was a little under seasoned, quite thin, and generally just not good. Definitely not good-quality cuts. Unlike the cold noodles for my gf, this did NOT hit the spot for my carnivore desires. AND....... I JUST realized this was supposed to come with soup. We got none.
