Working with the manager, Lucy to help coordinate catering from Darda was a great experience for my recent event. I highly recommend their food and the delivery services on providing hot and delicious food, delivered on time. We ordered the Mongolian beef, chili chicken, orange chicken, garlic eggplant, and chow mein. We also have some nut and sesame food allergies and they were able to accommodate that for their catering. We all enjoyed the food! The food is good, but it is a little oily and greasy. When I ordered online and picked up, there was no lunch buffet and even if there was, there would only be 6 options. The service was friendly when I picked up the food and the food was done in like 20 minutes. For 13 dollars, the mapo tofu was a steal, it was flavorful and had that nice numbing flavor. The kung pao chicken was nicely fried and coated with sauce. The fried rice was merely just alright, there are better places for fried rice. Inside is just the little corner shop that has always been there, seating inside and outside. Plenty of parking in the plaza. Very disappointed. We had hoped to love this place because it's close to home, but we will not be back. The tables and chairs are nice and comfortable... but the temperature inside was only 61 degrees. They turned up the heat, but it only went up to 62. It didn't help that the owner's child opened the door for fun, did cartwheels between the tables and argued loudly with his father. We then opted for takeout. We asked for everything mild spice (NOT no spice), except the Mapo Tofu we requested normal spicy. Hot n Sour Soup: pretty good. Not the best in the area, but enjoyable. Chicken in Plum Sauce: the sauce was overly sweet and didn't taste like plum. The chicken was coated (perhaps with cornstarch). Garlic Beef: blah. Not much flavor. Mixed assorted vegetables: very good Mapo Tofu: sooooo very greasy and NO meat! There's supposed to be ground pork. The flavor was just ok. See photo. This neighborhood restaurant is convenient for take out orders. On my first visit at dinner time, service was nice and friendly. Great service, but mediocre food. I tried the chow mein as a test of quality, but it was a disappointment. The noodles looked low-quality and were unfortunately tasteless. We've enjoyed the food at this restaurant several times. It's the best Chinese fast food that has ever been in that location. If you don't say otherwise, the food is on the very spicy side, but since we don't care for super spicy, we request less spice and they do it nicely. The service however could use some work. We usually call in our order and whoever answers the phone says nothing but, "Hello." Not a friendly hello either, and they don't mention the name of the restaurant which is just - odd. It's not professional. It's the same when you pick up the food. They are not very friendly. I wouldn't say that they are rude, but curt. I think they need to warm up their welcoming some if they want to build a loyal customer base. I can't speak to the ambiance because we've only run in to pick up for home. I haven't paid much attention to what is looks like to dine in. i am a frequent customer at the Darda Milpitas. This place is an express version. I ordered a Tsa Ma Mien. They don't have a choice of noodles. The soup is still good. I think the one in Milpitas is better. Also got chicken wonton soup, general tso chicken and green beans. The food is fine and service is one waitress take orders and serving. Previous Chinese places in this location have been primarily places to get a decent quick steam-table lunch. This one is less ideal for that purpose. The steam-table offerings are very few (rice & chow mein, 2 meat entrees, 2 veggie entrees) and the food is not very good. However! They also have a full cook-to-order menu, which you can also access online to order in advance, and the food made that way is, while not great, certainly pretty good. It's a little odd. The cumin lamb was more hot-spicy than cumin-flavored, and the meat was shredded, while the chicken in the kung pao appeared to be glazed. But as a neighborhood pickup, closer to me than other places I get takeout orders from, it was satisfactory enough that I'll use it again. They don't use those traditionally leaky cardboard boxes, but plastic clamshells for a generous quantity of food. And the order was ready right on time when I arrived. I'm always on the lookout for restaurant offerings of healthy eating, as I'm basically a lazy cook but force myself to mostly cook at home, as frequently restaurant foods are too oily and salty. - spicy chicken: so skillfully done! Tender, lightly batter-fried. I'm usually not a fan of fried foods, but for this dish I'll make an exception! - vegetables shrimp: wholesome, flavorful without being overly salty. Respectful amount of shrimps, and cloud ear is a bonus. - cumin lamb: my usual go-to lamb dish. A bit more oily than I'd like, but forgiven with its good flavor of spices and fresh tasting lamb! My second visit to Darda Express did not disappoint. My mother just had dental surgery and wanted some won ton soup. Lucy the store owner, had it made for me. The soup was delicious. Just the right amount of savory tenderness that makes won ton soup so good. I will buy this again from Darda Express. Lucy goes the extra mile when taking care of her customers. She has a warm smile and gives a feeling of family that I would have never expected. This is the Mongolian beef (pictured) is fantastic. It has the correct blend of onion and spiciness that you expect from a correctly made dish of Mongolian Beef. The beef is tender and the onion is a bit crunchy while still buttery. I ordered online through their website but when I arrived they were unaware of any online orders. After arriving home with my food I found that one of my entrees wasn't what I had ordered. When I called to request to come back to get what I had ordered I was told that the chef substituted my dish because "what I had ordered would take too long to make while I was waiting" at the restaurant. A request for a refund for the incorrect dish was denied. Their cashier in training was kind and apologetic. TToday was my second time trying Darda Express. The first visit was about a year ago for dine-in, and this time we ordered takeout -- which turned out to be a much better experience overall. During our dine-in visit, we found it a bit difficult to enjoy the food using plastic utensils and paper plates. However, the lady at the counter was very kind and accommodating, doing her best to make us feel comfortable despite the setup. At that time, we also noticed the food was a bit too salty and oily for our taste. This time, we ordered: -Wonton Soup (comes with 12 wontons) -Hot and Sour Soup -Mongolian Beef -Kung Pao Chicken Enjoying the meal at home in proper dishes made a big difference. The salt level was much better this time around. The wontons could use a bit more filling, but for the price, it's still a good value, and the taste was satisfying. My picky eater even enjoyed both soups, which is always a win! The Mongolian Beef was slightly on the oilier and saltier side, but still flavorful. We didn't need to order rice, as we had some at home -- which made the meal more budget-friendly. The restaurant itself has ample parking space, and our order was ready right on time. There's also plenty of indoor seating if you prefer to dine in. The restaurant decor and signage outside makes it look like it's a new location and ownership but she said it's the same people and no change. Ended up getting kung pao chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce. The chicken dish was serviceable, taste wise but pretty oily. The eggplant was awful - we threw most of it. Seemed more like eggplant in a thick soy sauce. Not tangy, spicy, sweet, or any of the taste profiles you would expect. More salty and the eggplant itself wasn't too quality. Ambiance and decor for sit down dining is basically like a Panda Express. Save your money and go to Epic Dumpling a mile or so down the road. We have been eating at Darda since 1999. The place has had its ups and downs with prices. Their service is pathetic and still they will charge you on your receipt for dine ins without you agreeing to it. Our food bill was 48$ and 5$ tax. I ended up paying 62$ with their added hidden fees.
