My waitress came right away, and I ordered unleaded (decaf for those in the know). It came in a little pot, ala IHOP, and was really, really GOOD. Wow. Decaf has come a long ways from the Sanka days! I ordered the INN-CREDIBLE V.I.B. which allowed me to order 4 yummy items of my choice - I chose the french toast (yummy and spiced just right albeit w/room temp syrup- not a deal-breaker but notable), a strawberry crepe (totally awesome strawberries, but the crepe was a bit colder than expected); scrambled eggs (always a nice stalwart) and two turkey sausage links (as with the frenchie above, nicely flavored!). The ambience was modern, updated, and felt welcoming and (thankfully) a bit familiar. Brought back some good ol' memories even if only the Baker's Square part of the menu was just pies nowadays. But the Village Inn lives on! And that counts - and I'll return. You should check it out too if you enjoy a good brekky at a classic American diner!

Not many husbands would tell their buddies from work "my wife would love this place", but when a place is as amazing as this, he just couldn't help himself. He ended up taking me, and he was completely right because the service was impeccable, the owners were kind and gracious, but most of all, the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Not just picture perfect, but flavors and textures that complimented each other in a way that I have never experienced before. This isn't just a "sandwich shop", it's simply amazing! I purposely made an account, just so I could write this review. Guarantee you won't be disappointed, unless you don't go and try their food. Its not a bar, but definitely gives you the "Cheers" where if you went back a few times, everybody would know your name type of feel. Unsure of which soup to order, I asked about the chicken tortilla soup, and the owner simply offered a sample to us. One taste is all it took for my husband and I to order a cup to go with our sandwiches. As an Italian girl, I'm pretty picky about anything with Italian meats, but went ahead and tried an Italian type sandwich, and it was easily the best Italian sandwich sandwich I ever tried. The combination of American, Mexican and Italian on their menu would easily make anybody happy. Especially how they were able to even put those combinations together in quite a few of their original and unique sandwiches. I could go on and on about this place, and I would if it meant that this place could forever be around. My only concern is that if word doesn't get out, that I'll be stuck attempting to make my own versions of their food, which I know I would never come close to. Best sandwich I've had in a long time. BONUS nice outdoor tables & umbrellas and close to the train. Thanks Sherwin for talking up the Cubano. The Cubano is now our standard sandwich to take to the airport. I like the Cubano better on the ciabatta bread than the Fiesta on pianini bread, just personal taste. I think the Cubano's also got a little more heat and we order ours extra spicy. Dario's has a Build Your Own Sandwich option, so you can customize anyway you want with their build your own sandwich option. We split one and it's plenty for us, almost too much bread. We call ahead, it's hot and ready in 10-15m. The loaf ciabatta keeps the Cubano hot for a long time, we have picked them up and eaten them downtown and they are still hot. Really nice people, check the hours. Probably no problem with an under the radar low key BYOB if that's your thing. All Dario's needs is Italian Ice to be almost perfect. Now coming to the food - its fabulous, we ordered a chipotle hummus wrap and a pesto panini - both were very well done, I have seen some of the others sitting around us order some salads and they looked really good . first of all great food... the southwest chicken was outstanding. the problem was the i had to wait 3 hours for it. the employee said it would take about 15 minutes until i got a call back saying it would not be ready til 5 o clock or right at the time they closed... not sure if this was a mistake as some of my buddies who are regulars said this has never happened. just frustrating none the less read more

Went in today after going to the farmer's market, shared Mediterranean salad and the Margherita flatbread. SO DELICIOUS! Everything was made fresh right there, which made me feel good knowing that my food hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp. Clean restaurant, so friendly, artsy-urban feel in downtown Palatine.
