I was recommended brisket tacos here, and I wil" tell you hwat" Hank Hill style.....that's the type of brisket you will knock your mom out for the last bite. The ambience here gives off the feel of a hunting cabin mixed with Texas pride, and it felt downright cozy. The lady at the front was very kind and welcomed me and took my order promptly. She let me know I could come back for more coffee and they had a bar with pickles, onions and some fresh in-house made BBQ sauce to the left of the counter. The star of the show next to the savory and slightly sweet BBQ sauce was the brisket tacos. These babies come fully loaded and nice and tender. I loaded mine up with onion and BBQ sauce and was in BBQ heaven! I was told they also make their own salsa as well, and have some great homemade desserts. We came here for lunch during a trip. There is a small parking lot. The restaurant is counter service with a small amount of indoor and outdoor seating. There is a drink station with sauces, pickles, and onions. We got our food to go. We got the three meat plate with pork ribs, brisket, and sausage. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the person behind the counter, who was friendly and welcoming. As the first customers of the day, we had the freedom to choose our seating, which was a nice touch. We ordered several dishes featuring brisket, along with some ribs and sausage. While the brisket was decent, it didn't stand out as particularly memorable or something that would draw us back for another visit -- I do remember the styrofoam plates and plasticware that was provided for our meals. The overall environment was average--the seating felt a bit low for the tables, and the surfaces had a slightly sticky feel, likely from wear and regular use rather than cleanliness issues. It seems this establishment could benefit from a remodel to better accommodate its customers. That may draw me back...the quality of food is another story. This place was HORRIBLE. When I come to Texas, I expect some of the best places to get homemade barbecue. But this was MID at best. Here's a list on all the things you can improve on: 1. The "homemade" barbecue sauce is just ketchup, it has no other distinct flavor that makes it different from just Heinz ketchup. 2. The Mac and cheese should just be called Mac because when you put a spoonful of it in your mouth, I dare you to try and taste the cheese in your mouth, it's like a challenge. No cheese flavor at all in the Mac and "Cheese". 3. The ambiance in the place was making me uncomfortable all the different chairs and weird tables, the napkin holders were falling apart and everything was sticky. The one GOOD thing I can point out from this restaurant is the service, they staff were kind and overall very helpful when I was ordering. In conclusion, this place was a mediocre place to go if you're trying to enjoy barbecue. But if you're coming here just for a quick bite then this might be your place to go. read more

The people here are extremely nice. You go in and place your order at the counter and then seat yourself. Someone brings the food to the table. Put in a mobile order for 11am Sunday morning the night before. 1lb of brisket was very good and even the lean cut was tender and had good flavor. 1lb of pork ribs, they were okay. Potato salad is Oma's favorite and a solid basic. Pinto beans could have used some salt and were cold but potential is there. Green beans had good flavor but were mushy. Mac n cheese was very basic watery Velvetta but not bad. Didn't get any of the jalapeños we paid extra for, or any onions, pickles, bbq sauce. Usually pretty understanding when small things are forgotten but there wasn't a single person eating there when I went to pickup the order so all of the employees were just chatting. It is very disheartening to see only 3 stars for this place. They deserve 5 stars. The food was great! The ribs melt off the bone and the sausage was on point. The best part is their in house sauce. Ordered a cinnamon roll with the assumption that it was greasy Lu made as the guy at the counter indicated the one sitting in the. Saw had just come out of the oven. On the way through Fredericksburg, we decided to opt out of our usual German lunch and scratch the itch for some barbeque that every Texan can only fight off for so long. We stumbled upon David's Old Fashioned Pit BBQ at the end of Main street and what a pleasant find it turned out to be. As the name announces, this place looks and feels like the old fashioned Pit BBQ joints that are unfortunately becoming more rare as time passes. It is the traditional order-at-the-counter set up and then you just sit where you like. I was with my mom at the time and she did not know exactly what she wanted. The gentleman at the counter was very helpful and patient with her order and truly seemed that his only goal then was to make sure that she got exactly what she wanted. Once everyone placed their orders we were given drink cups and then we headed over to the soda machine and tea dispensers. I can't comment on how the unsweet tea tasted as I rarely sin my mouth with such a creation, but the sweet tea was fresh, tasty, and not over-sugared(and I went back to get at least one more cup before we left). When the food was brought out a very short time later, it was given to us by someone coming from the kitchen that was just as pleasant and welcoming as the first employee that we encountered. Two brisket sandwiches, a brisket taco, a side of potato salad, and some peach cobbler were now ready for our consumption. I sauced mine up with just a bit of BBQ sauce, pickles, and fresh onions from the condiment station and we dove in. The taste and texture on everything was tremendous and tasty and watching the interactions between the customers and the staff, it was clear that this is a place that is always enjoyable to visit and share a meal. Small adequate dine-in area. Much of their business while we were there was takeout. Loved the potato salad and cole slaw. Beef brisket was fall-apart tender with good flavor. It was very lean which made a little dry. Plenty of David's spicy BBQ sauce available and some bottled Sweet Baby Ray's original for people like me who like a tamer sauce. I think we went on their worst day of the week, Wed., July 6th, 2022. First, the barbecue chicken was dry and re-heated from several days ago. The cashier/server said he'd never used the cash register before and was so confused with our order. There isn't much teamwork here nor energy to greet and serve customers. I wonder how this place stays open. Maybe it can become a self-serve like at the H-E-B to walk up and scan what you want. When we got home, we realized that the order was incorrect. Then there's the "bbq sauce". It resembled a tomato bisque and someone decided to add liquid smoke and call it bbq sauce. Just terrible. Stopped in to buy lunch for 4 of us while working in the area. Turkey tasted like reheated oven baked Thanksgiving Turkey. Zero smoke flavor and dry. Brisket had no smoke ring, no smoke flavor. Fortunately the beans were edible so I was able to eat something. Threw away 80% of my pound of Turkey and 75% of my 2 pounds of brisket. Sauce was strange, loaf of bread was from wal mart and was stale. We are from Lockhart, The BBQ Capital of Texas,this is far from Texas bbq. We were pleased to see a sign on the door requiring masks. However, once inside, we saw that none of the staff were wearing masks. We were hungry, though, so we ordered to go. When we opened our bag, we saw that they had included neither napkins nor utensils. I found one plastic fork in the glove box which we shared. The food was so-so. I had the two meat plate. Brisket and the pork ribs. The sides were coleslaw and mashed potatoes. The pork was really good and fell off the rib very nicely. The brisket was also great. I liked the mashed potatoes but the coleslaw wasn't my favorite. This being said I believe the coleslaw was very good. So the spices fit nicely together and made a great coleslaw. The price was also nice and it even has parking. Fredericksburg is know for it's German food but I would prefer this over any americanized German food. Something you shouldn't forget is the staff, they were really nice and I had no problems at all. In general when I go to a new place I ask them about the food and their favourite food and it was easy to talk to the staff.
