Before our trip to Raleigh, I looked up a few places to eat that would be within walking distance of our hotel and this was the closest (and most highly reviewed!). Yelp did not disappoint and David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar had some amazing food and a great atmosphere. We arrived for dinner at 5 pm on Valentine's Day, just beating most dinner go-ers. We had a party of 9, including two children needing highchairs. The hostess and waiter were very accommodating and friendly. We looked over the menu and I decided to go with the Pad Thai with chicken and everyone else chose their items. Someone ordered the fried dumplings and I tried one and it was delicious! My Pad Thai was AMAZING and so good, but my mother tried and it and thought it was a bit oily, but I didn't mind that at all. I thought they were perfect. My mother ordered a bowl of noodle soup and she couldn't stop talking about it all night. She is Korean and very picky and critical of Asian restaurants, but she said this was the best noodle soup she ever had. For the kids, I just ordered plain white rice and steamed broccoli and gave them some of my chicken and they were happy. Everyone in our group loved the food they ordered and if we return to Raleigh, we will make sure to visit David's again. read more

My new favorite Asian spot in Raleigh. Cheaper than Bida Manda, but just as delicious. Our waiter was attentive, the atmosphere was nice for a casual date night, and the food came out perfectly and on time. We got David's original dumplings, crispy fried wontons, and shrimp rangoon to start - all were delicious, but the crispy friend wontons (which really are just a dumpling and are not actually not spicy) were the best. The shrimp rangoon had the perfect amount of cream and a delicious dipping sauce, and the original dumplings were fried just the right amount. For our main dishes we got fried rice and the Malaysian chicken curry. The curry was delicious and just the right amount of heat. Will definitely be returning to David's! My mouth is watering while posting the photos onto this review.. I took a short visit to Raleigh back in March, and David's Dumplings was within walking distance of my hotel so --loving all things Asian food-- it was an obvious choice. The restaurant had a clean and quiet atmosphere, which was perfect for a solo diner like me. I ordered the Malaysian curry noodle soup during my first visit to the restaurant (note: multiple visits in one weekend). The soup was fantastic. Very flavorful, not too spicy, and the noodles/fried tofu and dumplings inside were perfect. I wish I didn't live on the other side of the country, because I still dream about this soup. The NEXT DAY, I came back to David's again for lunch because I enjoyed it so much on my first visit. This time I ordered the moo shoo pork, which was also delicious. I would say if you're an adventurous eater who enjoys Asian curry, absolutely go for the curry soup. For anyone else who is still developing their oriental palate, the moo shoo is a safe bet. If I'm ever in Raleigh again, I will absolutely be camped out at this restaurant. read more

My entree was pretty good, but do not get the dumplings. They were deep fried and just soaked in oil. They were not traditional dumplings at all and definitely not what I was expecting. The one and only reason I order from David's is for the dumplings. So when they're the ONLY thing left out of my Uber Eats order, it's incredibly and ironically frustrating. The seafood noodle soup is absolutely delicious. The broth that it comes in is unable to be described by words it's soo good. It's served with shrimp, fish ball, and scallops! Good service. Delicious food. My only complaint is that the portions are much smaller than a typical Chinese restaurant while the prices are higher than average. Not a good combination. However, the dishes we ordered came out amazingly fast, were hot and freshly made to order, and we appreciated that we could finish our entire dinner within half an hour (because we have a 2 year old who's not great about sitting still for a long time). If it wasn't so far and portions were bigger, we would be regulars here. read more

We ordered a number of things, and I tried the Green Papaya Salad with Shrimp (it wasn't the best papaya salad I've ever had, but it was good and fresh, shrimp were cooked well and the fried scallions were an interesting touch), the vegetable spring rolls, and the General Mao's Chicken (not something I usually get, but the crispy honey chicken was delicious and indulgent). No portions were huge, but if you get a couple of items and share, it will probably be more than enough. There were other items that our group ordered that I didn't try but I was limited since I don't eat beef, pork, eggs or mushrooms. I would order again or go to David's after Covid. read more

I came with my family. None of us were impressed with our inauthentic, sandpaper-tasting meals. I ordered a noodle soup dish. I don't even remember the name.. that's how little impact it had. All I remember is that it was bland and lacked flavor. Why serve food that doesn't even have flavor... My mom ordered a curry noodle dish and said it was way too salty. My dad ordered a rice dish and thought it was average. No one around me even seemed enthusiastic about their meals. I was thoroughly disappointed after seeing such rave reviews and not enjoying the food at all. The service was also slow, and other customers were being tended to a lot more than my family and me. Servers treated us like an afterthought and barely asked if we needed anything. They walked right past us to talk to other families. First time at David's this weekend and we sat at the bar. We both got a speciality liquor drink. I got the cucumber mule drink from the menu and it was good, but not great. Definitely didn't get a buzz off of it. It was relatively cheap $7, but next time I think I'll just order a beer. The bartender wasn't very friendly so probably won't sit at the bar again. We just ordered small plates, and the half fried dumplings were delicious! Love how they came with 5 instead of 4, it was great for splitting. The yellow chicken curry was delicious and the bread that came with it was spot on. The Shrimp vegetable spring rolls had very little flavor which was disappointing. And the sauce it came with did not pair well, so we had to ask for soy sauce instead. I would like to return to try more items on the menu. read more

We visited David's with our parents around the holidays. The atmosphere and service were very nice and everyone enjoyed dining close to the older NCSU campus. It's been a while, but if I'm not mistaken we had edamame, vegetable spring rolls, edamame and mushroom dumplings, eggplant, and vegetable pad thai. I wish there had been more vegetarian options, but I thought the atmosphere made up for it and I imagine the kitchen would be willing to adapt a dish or two. read more

Our meal started off questionable with how that server not taking our drink order and running away as soon as she had poured our water. Once we placed our order, the food came quickly. The appetizers (half fried dumplings and shrimp Rangoon) were enjoyable. However, our entrees were not great. The mu shu pork (sp.) was on par with what you would find at practically any hole in the wall takeout place. The roast pork soup on the other hand was not good; under seasoned, bland and generally unpleasant. These were almost like meatballs where you cannot taste or distinguish the different meats and vegetables that go into the filling. I was disappointed. I've been waiting to review David's until I ate here on my own and not in a big group. My first try at this place was in a large party in the back room and I wasn't terribly impressed. There were about 30 of us and we were assigned one server. Needless to say, drinks took forever, appetizers went to the wrong people or went missing, and one or two isolated people didn't get their entree until everyone else was finished. I don't blame the server, I blame the management for staffing our party inappropriately. The one server we had was working their tail off. After all the service flubs, I wasn't impressed with the food. Much came out cold because it had been waiting for other meals to get batched. I was hoping to have a better experience in a small party with my family which wouldn't have any extra service requirements and had a legitimately unsatisfying experience. My mom has facial problems and needs a straw; had to ask for one multiple times. Drinks went unfilled. Had to ask multiple times for a refill of our hot water for tea. And my entree came out so late that my parents had both almost finished their meals. That really gets my goat. I pretty much spent the whole meal picking at my parents plates so I wasn't just hungrily watching them eat. When my curry soup came out, I thought it was good-tasting, but the service had kind ruined it. And then it was my parents' turn to sit and watch me eat. All in all the food is good enough that if someone else wanted to take me there and pay for it I would probably be willing to try it again, but I won't go back on my own after two service fails. read more

So disappointing. This place has completely changed and lost its authentic hand-made dumplings and wontons with delicious Chinese vegetable garnishes and all of its amazing menu items of real authentic Chinese soups and noodles. This was around 2016 and earlier when the original founder and owner David was still managing the restaurant. None of his creations exist now. We only see very generic dishes and ready-made wontons and dumplings that all taste about the same-- none of the dishes were authentic or especially notable. This used to be a hidden gem but no more. The upside is that the setting and the interior rooms of the restaurant have remained the same-- great ambience but food just mediocre to not great if you are familiar with real Chinese food. read more

I ordered Cashew Chicken for takeout. It tasted great and is a solid dish. That being said, I felt the portion size was insufficient for $14 (including tax). I ordered at 9:30 and the restaurant closes at 10:30 so I understand if they didn't want to make more work for themselves but I was looking forward to treating myself and I was let down. I also felt the staffperson I spoke with was dismissive when I brought this up with them, saying "no that's how much there is, because it comes with rice..." but I don't want anyone to lose their job so no names. Great service, not-so-great food. Atmosphere was nice and had me looking forward to the time I would spend enjoying my meal in there. My server was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. I went in thinking I would try Singapore noodles for the first time, but with no egg. He knew enough to inform me that the noodles themselves in that dish contain eggs. He suggested the Pad Thai as that dish is made with rice noodles instead. I agreed to try it because I do like Pad Thai (but I've only ever gotten it from dedicated Thai restaurants). Food came out pretty quickly. Vegetarian dumplings were very salty and majority shiitake mushroom (like basically one whole shiitake mushroom with a couple edamame beans deep fried in a wrapper) which are actually my least favorite mushroom. I ate them anyway because I was so hungry. I was surprised to find that my pad Thai came out with egg in it, even though my server and I had the exchange about the eggs and chose the dish because it could be made without eggs. What made it more awkward was that there was no one around for a few minutes to ask for a new dish (I had enough time to finish my dumplings that came out at the same time and sit waiting intently). I was seated sort of behind a brick wall so no one could really see me if they did venture over and it sounded like most of the other diners were on the other side of the wall. I was able to waive the host over and ask for help. He got the manager to come over and assist me. A few minutes later a (noticeably smaller) plate of Pad Thai came out sans egg. Though it looked like a nice Pad Thai, the taste was more of a salty Chinese takeout lo mein. A decent lo mein, but I ordered pad Thai, not lo mein, so it was a little weird. Maybe they mixed up the sauces in the kitchen? When my server came back, he was very kind and apologetic. I liked him and actually felt bad that he felt bad about my order being messed up. Overall, I spent over $20 (with the 20%tip) on water, salty deep fried shiitake mushrooms and a sodium rich plate of tofu/veggie lo mein. Some may say this dislike is my own fault - but this place is a cilantro hater's nightmare. I don't like like cilantro. Yes, it tastes like soap. But I don't let that get in my way of enjoying Asian cuisines. Most places that are delicious prepare their food fresh and can omit their cilantro but David's was unable to...even though I was told that they would. Lo and behold my first bite - dish soap! After bringing it up I was told by the staff "can't you just pick it out? At least it's not too small!" I give a four star on this because i thought the food was good, it's nothing out of the ordinary and I've had plenty out there that's been better. I ordered David's fried rice, the shrimp, chicken, and Chinese sausage was good in the rice. The portion size was decent as you can see in the picture but I didn't think the price fix the portion. The restaurant had a nice feel to it and was a nice place to dine. I do wish they would've have shrimp sauce and sweetened chili sauce. Those are two important sauces when eating Asian cuisine. The spring rolls looked good in some of the pictures I seen on here but I opted out since there was no chili sauce. Although this may not seem like a 4 star post the restaurant is really good and some of the things that I didn't think was great may not effect many of the people that don't eat Asian food as much as I do. read more

I can't wait for this place to be open for dining room again! A staple in our go-to noodle/Asian food fare. We live the veggie dumplings. The perfect spice and crunch. Pro tip: dip in the sauce and add a little slaw to your bite for flavor explosion. Other favs; the Sesame tofu and the pad Thai. The sesame tofu, is so crunchy and taste just like General Tso's chicken but perfect for vegans are vegetarians. This place was pretty good. Not outstanding. Our server was perky and kind and fun. We mostly took her recommendations on things as I like to do that in a new spot I am trying. I ordered a ginger sake mule. It was good tasting but tasted kind of weak. Not tasting of any one thing in particular and I do like the prominent ginger flavor in a traditional mule. For dinner I ordered the Singapore noodles with shrimp. It was kind of sweet tasting and pretty oily - the tamarind sauce in the dish. The server offered some chili oil - made a huge difference with the taste. Made it a bit spicy which cut the sweet and I loved it. My friend ordered the mooshu pork. Very tasty. Maybe more buns should be served since the helping of the pork is pretty substantial. I would go back. Maybe try something different. The soups look great. read more

Delicious affordable Asian cuisine! I've been meaning to go to David's for years and now I wish I hadn't put it off so long. Terrific location near NC State and downtown Raleigh. Close parking. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She helped us with suggestions and descriptions of dishes, which i greatly appreciated since there is a variety of dishes I wasn't familiar with. The shrimp Rangoon are something special. A great spin on a crab Rangoon. I thought all the prices were great and the portions generous. My moo shoo pork with steamed buns was umami deliciousness. My friend liked her Singapore noodles with shrimp. The food came quickly, fresh and hot. My cocktail combined lemonade , sake and cucumber. It was refreshing! The restaurant is open with nice natural light. I'll happily return to try more dishes. read more

Not really the best place to go for wontons and dumplings. The name is misleading. None of the wontons could be made without shrimp (literally not a single one), which is a common food allergy. Dumplings were expensive and not that great. I left hungry after having paid $20 for salty dumplings without any real flavor to them. read more
