I used to go to Davio's in Back Bay all the time and it was a favorite. I haven't been in years and now live closer to the Chestnut Hill location so I checked it out with a friend because they can accommodate vegetarian and gluten free diets. Service was fine, and I appreciated that they offer a gluten free roll in addition to the yummy cheesy popovers. My friend enjoyed her warm spinach salad with mushrooms and peppers as well as fish, but my dish was horrible. Years ago I used to order this delicious, velvety soft baked eggplant (it was only $9 as a side), so I ordered the eggplant on the menu ($29 now). First, it was chewy and tough- I didn't even know it was possibly to make eggplant that texture, and then after a few bites I took a bite of burrata that I had to actually spit out because it tasted moldy! I don't know why I didn't say anything to our server (maybe because I didn't want to make a scene and ruin our nice conversation or maybe because he didn't even ask if anything was wrong with the food when he took away a full plate), but it's really sad that this dish has become so awful. Davio's interior reminds me of a motel breakfast area or a senior living facility. Known as the upscale Bertuccis, Davios offers great steak and italian options. Lunch review. The beef tenderloin sandwich was fantastic and well worth the $18 as it came fries and incredibly tender steak. I asked for the horseradish sauce on the side as a dipping sauce. The calamari was amazing while the crab cake was mediocre. My fellow diners also ordered steak and salads, all of which were good. The truffle fries however came out incredibly sad with tons of bits and ends as if it were the end of the last batch of fries. The staff was understanding and offered us a new batch which were exactly what we were expecting initially of truffle fries. Definitely a business meal location or a place to take your grandparents. It took an HOUR to get our food, the waitress never came to check if we wanted refills or anything and the food was extremely horrible. We had to call the waitress over a few times to get service. Came here for my boyfriends birthday. I made the reservation through OpenTable and added the feature that we were celebrating a birthday. The customer service was through the roof!! Each staff we came into contact with wished him a Happy Birthday which was a really nice touch. Second time visiting. My husband and I grabbed two seats at the bar, I had the gnocchis and he had the rib eyes. Service was good and the food definitely were on par. (The ribeye was $62 but you can taste the quality in the meat). By the end of meal, 2 person dinner were about $200 with tips. So, we will save this place as special occasion. read more

Very disappointed in the restaurant and wine switching! Three of us went to Davio's last night for a birthday celebration (which we told the waiter after he asked). It was a Wednesday night so it was easy to get a table; the restaurant was less than a third full. Our waiter was good, attentive for the most part, friendly and definitely wanted to make sure we enjoyed our experience. Sadly, he never introduced himself. We started with cocktails. Two of us were having cocktails, one wine which would also continue through dinner so we wanted a bottle. He was helpful with the cocktail selection and brought over a separate menu. I asked for a taste of 2 wines which are served by the glass and he brought those right over from the bar. The wines by the glass were not great so we ordered a Ridge Zinfindel ($110) bottle. We also ordered the 2 cocktails. The cocktails arrived no problem. He brought the wine over and it was a totally different bottle than we ordered and less than 1/2 the price (Bogle). When I told him it wasn't what we ordered, he apologized and went to research what happened. About 5-10 minutes later he returned and said they were out of the Ridge and this is what they gave him. We were very confused by lack of communication on the bottle and the "replacement" rather than just saying "we don't have it". We then ordered a bottle of 2020 Daou Reserve ($110) (note: there is a much lower priced Daou on the menu too). About 20 minutes later he returned with a bottle of Daou. I looked closely at the bottle and it was a 2022 bottle and not the reserve (not the bottle we ordered). He was confused about the bottle, apologized and returned again to the "wine people" to find out what happened. Over the next 30 minutes or so I could see a couple of people in suits helping our waiter out and a bit of discussion. Our waiter tended to other tables and clearly was avoiding our table, probably because he didn't know what to do or what was going on with the wine. (apparently, at Davio's, the wait staff puts the order in the computer and someone else is in charge of getting the bottle, so the waiter just takes what he gets (assuming it's correct) and brings it to the table. I finally flagged him down and he said they were able to get the correct bottle. He brought that over and it was correct (except is was a 2021 not 2020). The entire process to get our COCKTAILS took over an HOUR and 2 of the cocktails were left on the table diluting while I was waiting for a glass of wine for a birthday toast! We finally ordered dinner which came promptly. The food was good and plentiful. Two of us ordered the halibut special which was good but we both commented it was very over salted. We did not complain and tried to keep the mood light as this was a birthday celebration. At no time did a manager come over to ask how things were, apologize for the wine debacle (which he knew about because he was involved) or offer anything to us. This is the most disturbing part of the night. The manager is responsible for overall customer service and when things go wrong, they are responsible to make it right. The manager should have proactively taken control of the wine mix-ups and it taking over an hour to provide the first drink on the table! The restaurant was almost empty so the ability to make that contact was not an issue. Our overall impression was less than satisfactory and we won't go back. Food is good but not worth the price, customer service at the management level doesn't exist and there seemed to be some "bait and switch" with the wine which is quite offensive, not to mention the lack of communication between the "wine person" and the wait staff. Without doubt, we would have been charged for the expensive bottle of Daou and given the inexpensive version had we not been as diligent checking the bottles! Be mindful of the wine you order and the wine you actually GET!!! read more

Overall rating was that it was nice and food was good but, all things considered, I found it overpriced for what it was. I wish I could tell you the meal was so bad I've overcome my addiction, BUT DAVIOS NEVER, EVER DISAPPOINTS. So good. Screaming crying throwing up about it honestly. Why can't dining hall food be like this? How was Trader Joe's not made a freezer bag version? Obviously because they don't want to start the next opioid crisis or, rather, "davios dilemma." Such a lovely dinner experience at Davio's. As someone with Celiac I had to do some research but they took all precautions necessary. I had the most delicious roll and dinner. My salmon was cooked to perfection and a side of roasted potatoes I so enjoyed. My husband and I had some delicious special summer Rose and he enjoyed his filet and blue cheese potatoes. We had our department holiday dinner here and OMG! I don't have one bad thing to say about this place. I've been seeing Davio's for years and years and never even thought about going there. That has changed! I cannot wait to go back! The lobster risotto was AMAZING with big chunks of lobster in EVERY bite and SO flavorful! The chicken was a little bland but the mashed potatoes were great! The maple creme brulee is seasonal and quite good. I will definitely be back to try some different menu items. I always host professional private events at this location, but in May I came here with friends and family for a graduation dinner. Their appetizers are tasty, service is beyond and there is parking which makes life easier. The entrance is near the theatre, so not ideal. I love the fish dishes and the cheesesteak eggrolls. I would recommend this spot if you are in the area and want nice food in a lighted restaurant. You can actually see in this restaurant, it's not dark. We went for dinner last night, at 7:45pm the restaurant was empty, the staff greeted us and we thought we were in for a good dinner, the waitress was amazingly attentive for the first 2 minutes! Drinks came, expect one of ours, which took another 20 mins, then dinner after we sat for 40 mins to place our order it took another 40 mins, I should have left.... My Dad, my wife and my daugther went to celebrate my Dad coming to town. It was terrible, the food was so medium, if medium, would never come back. Went for Dine Out Boston dinner menu. Limited selection but their full menu was also available. I happily chose from the Dine Out Menu and selected arancini for my antipasti, salmon for my dinner and a plum & nectarine crisp with vanilla gelato for dessert. All 3 courses were great! My wife is gluten free and their regular menu had a very extensive gluten free menu for her to choose from. She went with gf gnocchi (hard to find for the gluten sensitive). She was pleasantly surprised with her dish, commenting that she wished the gnocchi had a little crisp to them but enjoyed the dish all the same. The waiter even brought over a gluten free biscuit for her to enjoy while I chowed down on their very glutenous popover dinner rolls! We were both impressed with his thoughtfulness as we didn't request the gf roll but we're happy to have it. She had the affogato for dessert for which she'd give a 6/10 due to the hazelnut gelato being a bit icy. My fruit crisp and vanilla gelato however were delicious 9/10. Prices are reasonable for a 'steakhouse' on the outskirts of the city. Ambience was different than other steakhouses (ie. Capital Grille) because Davio's was bright and bustling. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic meal, request to be seated near the bar. Service was great! Love the forward thinking of our waiter with the gluten free bread. read more

A panino (a simple sandwich which had no cooking/pressing) was not delivered with the other meals. A fish plate ($37) had nothing on the plate aside from a piece of cod. Service was really efficient, friendly and not over bearing. We ordered off the lunch menu. My husband (a very picky eater) ordered the tomato soup and loved it. I loved that my cesear salad came with anchovies. It makes me nuts when restaurants don't even have anchovies in their kitchen and serve a cesear which (w/o anchovies) is essentially a parm and crouton salad! The salad was dressed right (not too much dressing) and was quite good. Only reason for 4 and not 5 stars was that our server was somewhat confused and (even though the place was fairly empty) sat us in a booth near other diners after we asked to be seated well away from others. Took my work staff for holiday lunch. It was strangely quiet there, but very pleasant. Overall the food was very good and beautifully presented. Started with the spring roll sampler which was enjoyed by all at the table. A very nice way to start the meal. A colleague and I split an arugula salad which was very fresh and flavorful (having added a bit of olive oil as it looked a bit underdressed.) Entrees included a pizza, Caesar salad with salmon, a spinach salad with grilled chicken and a daily special of shrimp and linguini with pesto sauce and grape tomatoes. All were excellent. The service was very attentive and the waiter was easily accessible and filled water constantly. Prices were surprisingly reasonable. Our server wheeled over the dessert cart and offered a detailed description of the huge number of offerings. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. As an aside: the bar near the kitchen looked like a terrific place to come on a cold winter night and enjoy a warm meal and a few drinks. read more

They weren't even separated from each other, but rather held together with uncooked batter. The fryer later oil was already exhausted. Were they using it just to save money? I don't know. I tried to ask the owner. I called numerous times to no avail to get this person to return my calls. They brought out fish. The manager said he apologized again, as he agreed that it was inedible. This was arguably the worst meal I have ever had at any price. Things happen. The owner not calling me back after numerous tries is inexcusable. You don't have to believe me. The bartender told us he was short staffed, because management sent his help home not expecting it to be busy on Halloween. Unfortunately for us, it was very busy. We ordered three drinks, and got two. Clearly, he forgot to get the draft beer. He came back about another 15 minutes later, and we reminded him for the third drink. He got it, but didn't apologize. We wanted to order food too, but after waiting so long for drinks, and having a movie to make we didn't want to risk the timing. *After posting this review the General Manager reached out and immediately invited us back to try again. I am giving two stars because of the hostess and our excessive wait time to be brought water/bread/be greeted by the waiter. The hostess area had 2 women, both asked my name. I told them, one turns around and grabbed menus and walked away. Neither one said to follow or anything like "right this way" etc. Then the other woman eventually said "...go". Not exactly a lovely welcome. We got to the table and no one greeted us for 12 minutes. We timed it. One person brought us water and then another 7 went by before a waiter came by. When we asked if he recommended any wine it was as if he had never heard that question before. The way he described the wine he eventually got us to buy was weird. All he said was "yeah it's good". I am sure he wasn't a wine sommelier but I feel any waiter at a half decent steakhouse should be able to recommend a wine with better vocabulary than "yeah it's good". That kind of pissed me off. Strega, Capital Grille, Del Frisco's, etc all have had much better and attentive waiters and hostesses, and i expected Davios to be on the same playing field. The food was ok. Obviously the appetizer spring rolls are really good. Everyone likes those. My filet mignon steak was decent (prob not worth 48 bucks or whatever) and my fiancé's lobster risotto kind of sucked. She didn't enjoy it, but didn't send it back. The risotto wasn't done well, and there was very minimal lobster in the dish. We took it home to try and give it a second chance but threw it out once we walked in. The deserts were good. The white chocolate cheesecake was amazing, and the chocolate molten cake was great as well. Highly recommend the deserts. All in all, if you're in chestnut hill and want a nice dining experience I would probably go elsewhere than this particular Davios that is built into a movie theater. read more

Bartender is completely inattentive and everywhere except where he supposed to be, the bar. After finishing my meal, I and another person sat for 15 mins with empty glasses. Eventually I managed to flag down the bartender and request another glass and the check. Completely ridiculous as there were maybe 6 people at the bar and maybe three seated tables in the entire restaurant. This has happened before. No more. read more
