Two Disappointments: 1.) Betterful blueberries were the poorest quality. The flesh was mushy and no flavor. 2.) Vegan Burrito was terrible. Overly spiced and all seasonings were raw and the burrito was unbearably dry and gritty. Won't be returning to the deli for any store made items. Stopped here for a healthy lunch on way home to SF. I got the salad bar, and my guy got a deli sandwich. Both were super fresh and delicious. Sandwich took some time to make, but you can tell it was made with care. While waiting, I wandered around and thought they had great selection and reasonable prices (a fresh slice of pie for $1.65??). Great customer service, full service meat department with high quality and often organic meats, extensive organic produce selection from local farms, large beer and wine section with some select hard liquor choices available. This place is so temptingly good! Walking through the aisles I want to try everything, food, makeup, beer, bulk snacks, and then take home a new plant as well. I have walked over here a few times during my lunch break and I have picked up a slice of lingonberry pie (1.99) and a can of matcha green tea (1.50). Find the complimentary compostable fork at the front of the store. Another day I picked up a pack of Justin's peanut butter (.79) and a single piece of dark, organic chocolate (.99), They have great deals on in season produce and was also able to pick up a tub of lactose free sour cream (2.99) since my Citrus Heights grocery store doesn't stock it, This store also has a SAFE Bank ATM which is conveniently my bank. Such a great store with unique finds. I love the Sierra Nevada brand's cream cheese and butter and it's pretty difficult to find, but this co-op had it for comparable prices to other delivery services that sell it. They also have a whole fresh bread section that looked great. They also had a variety of local eggs which I appreciated. Definitely will be back, highly recommend. read more

I am in love with the Sacramento Co-op but this one is pretty solid as well. Just stopped in here for some last minute ingredients but from what I saw, they had a good selection of produce, grocery items, breads, etc. I did notice that they had a well-stocked craft beer fridge with a wide variety of interesting options. Can't comment regarding the prices since I shopped here without a membership. They did send me a $10 off coupon so that was pretty awesome of them. Ample parking! read more

Great selection! I really appreciate the Co-op's bulk section, and gluten free options. Everything there is so aesthetically pleasing and there's such a variety of produce and natural, organic products including essential oils. The staff are incredibly friendly and have always seemed ready to lend a hand, and last but not least, their SANDWICHES are amazing! You pick what you want on it (gluten free and vegan options available too). This spot has the best vegetables unless you go to the farmers market. All the produce lasts forever in the fridge and it comes mostly from local farms. Everything is marked if you are into where your food comes from. The deli has some nice things and lots of gluten free items. It's a little pricey however there's less shopping long term because the items are fresh and last. I tend to avoid the meat department because over the years there's been some dubious looking selections however perhaps they've improved it. I've bought meat and it was bad smelling that day at home and it's so expensive I can't do that. And I hate returning stuff. Like I said it's been a few years since I've bought meat there. Perhaps it's improved... maybe it's because all the vegetarians shop there. Overall I love our food co-op and enjoy shopping there. Thankful we have this little gem in our community. read more

I adore grocery shopping. It never used to be that way, but now it's almost become a hobby. I love picking up packaged products and reading ingredients. I love perusing delicious moist baked goods. Seeing what freshly caught fish is at the deli. Marveling at the robust fruit and vegetables in the produce section. It's exhilarating. David Food Co-Op may be one of the best grocery stores that I've encountered in awhile. Their hot food section smells amazing. Their deli staff are personable and each sandwich is made with love. They carry a wealth of Sugar Plum Vegan baked goods. They carry a plethora of Fair Trade/Locally made clothing and household items. And their produce section is absolutely dazzling. They have it all here. It's well organized. Massive. Their staff are helpful. And it's a Co-Op. I could have easily spent half a day in here - beaming at all of the colorful, healthy, well stocked aisles. Trust. read more

We are co-owners with the Co-op, and it's been a good experience! The bulk sections are great - the fact that you can get bulk coffee, bulk flours, etc. is awesome and makes us feel a little better about doing our shopping here. They have great natural stuff, including soaps and shampoos, which is nice if you want a bar soap, but you don't want to feel bad about all the packaging that comes with it. This place has a lot of items that other stores in Davis don't, especially when it comes to vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and keto options. We always find something that looks good here and fits our dietary needs. I like their desserts, as well, and I can usually get a few easy lunch items here. I am happy to be an owner and like the location. However, I don't come here as much as I'd like to because the prices are not super affordable compared to other stores in town. read more

Ah Davis, grab your bike and head on down! Love the atmosphere here and the vibe. Great spot to grab a quick bite to eat from their deli section. They have a kale salad that makes you realize you're not even eating kale! Although I am not a member, I like to stop in now and then. There is a very comprehensive supplements section. Many more homeopathic remedies here than Whole Foods, for instance. Their beer section rocks too. So many different bottles, so little time! I made the mistake of buying maple syrup in bulk thinking that I was saving a lot of money. It was around $12 a pound and I had a mental image of a pound being a huge container! Not so. A pound, folks, is about two small coffee mugs. Oh well, live and learn. Call me mainstream, but I find the prices of their bulk food 5X higher than WinCo. Okay okay, WinCo is NOT the Co-op. Not by a long shot, but their bulk food section is sooo much cheaper. And when you are unemployed, you really count your pennies. Long story short, if you are on a decent income, are a member and value organic and quality produce, then this place is up your alley! They also stock Bundaberg ginger beer from Queensland, Australia. You've gotta try this! It will put hairs on your chest. read more

I paid a high price for a container of pineapple chunks. When I ate the chunks almost 30% of them were inedible chunks of pineapple core. Disappointing & upsetting to say the least. Who cuts up the core & sells it as if it were edible at a premium price? Lesson learned. Buyer beware at the Co-Op. read more

What a great community market. I always find wonderful, new surprises in the produce and cheese departments. I especially love that they cut the cheese in the specialty cheese department into small sizes so you can get a couple of different things to try. Very nice affordable grocery store with fresh produce available. We stopped here as we were seeking quality ingredients for our Weekend BBQ.

The co-op offers many food options, from a hot bar to cold salads to super fresh sushi. I believe I even saw a take-and-bake section. It was a miracle to find at least two options at the hot bar I could eat with so many food sensitivities! Everyone was quite helpful. The sushi chef was more than willing to make me a custom roll with white rice. He told me where all of their fish comes from. It was by far the freshest tasting salmon I have ever had- so much so that it threw me at first! We enjoyed a delicious lunch on the patio with the background music of someone practicing on the available piano nearby. read more

I come by once in a while and I think it's just okay. The produce looks fresh, but way too expensive and the sales aren't exactly sales. Their prepared food gets kind of dry.. I've tried the soup and the refrigerated packaged food and it was whatever and tasted a bit stale. They carry Sugar Plum Cafe's zucchini chai muffins which I LOVE to get if I want to spend some extra money (they're like $3.50) and they have tons of other baked goods. I have gotten the vegan blueberry muffin which was a bit dry. I liked the ones at Whole Foods better. I have also gotten the pumpkin bread, which was really moist and good! Most of their items are pretty expensive, but their bulk items are something to really look at. It's a good place to buy spices or flours that you only want a little of. An ideal place for people who only bake or cook a little bit. read more

My family used to get groceries here when I was younger. They have awesome snacks and organic foods! I got a sandwich here for the first time today. It was around lunch time so there were a lot of people. But the employees were super nice and offered us free samples while we waited. I think the build your own sandwich is pretty worth it. You can add everything you like, and it's only $6.99 with meat. The sandwich was huge too; probably 2 meals for me. (They have a coupon in the Davis green machine for BOGO). The only thing I didn't like was the bread. I got a sourdough roll, and it just didn't taste like sourdough at all. read more

The co-op is a special place in Davis. They always have an amazing selection of fresh produce, unique beer, and delicious prepared food. I love coming here to find those hard to find items for recipes. The best part is the bin section where you can find everything from A to Z. This is a way to get small amounts of everything you might need and not pay too much! My boyfriend is a member of the co-op and it's a real treat to come here! They also threw an amazing members party to celebrate co owing the store :) so if you live in Davis make sure you also become a member! read more

Heaven for a zero waster! I bring my own Mason jars and load up on pantry items in the bulk section! The bulk section itself is a work of art so I'm impressed. They even have bulk shampoos and soaps. I also can buy zero waste meat here which is amazing! The butchers section in the back allows you to bring your own containers which they tare and then directly add the raw meat to, so there's no disposable packaging! The entire staff is super accommodating with the zero waste lifestyle and when I signed up for membership the coordinator even allowed me to pick up my card in person so it wasn't mailed with the unnecessary envelopes! The only downside to the co-op is that the produce can sometimes be a bit expensive compared to places like Trader Joe's but I think the higher cost is worth it when you're supporting local farms and going zero waste! read more

Organic Food!! Holy moley do they have tons of organic food. The place is jam packed with all kinds of products. There are grains, fruits, frozen prodcuts, paper towels, just about everything. I'll admit it's no Trader Joe's, but it's just as good. I also love how they're not limited to organic products. They'll still have big name things like Cheetos and Doritos. It's brilliant to offer both a healtheir product and unhealthy if you really want it. However, go for the healtheir one. I don't want someone having a heart attack on my account. But, the place is huge and the staff is great. They're friendly and know a lot of info. What I love are the little price tags that let you know if the product is organic or not. However, it still doesn't touch me like Trader Joe's. read more

I cannot put into words how much I love the DFC. I've been to many Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Berkeley Bowl, but no other store gives me the same sort of "I belong here" or "people care about me" feeling like the DFC does. I became a member 5 years ago because the DFC is the only place where I can find a lot of dried fruit without added sugar or preservatives. Then I eventually started buying cereal, bread, and produce from here. The co-op has, hands down, the best selection of cereal and produce in Davis. No where else even comes close. Their bread is also great. Acme and other local bakeries deliver every morning and some are even baked in-house. (btw, the carry Village Bakery's sliced sandwich bread, which is only sold here or at the Saturday farmers market, not even at their own bakery!) The hot food and salad bar has lots of fresh and delicious items to choose from, and is $8.99/lb. If you buy them after 7pm, its half off, but some items may be gone. My bf loves to buy his deli meat and fresh meat here. The Saag's deli chicken meat is sooo much better than Nugget's, and its actually cheaper too! The co-op meat and seafood counter carries all kinds of varieties and cuts, the only place comparable might be the UC Davis meat lab. Their meat comes from sustainably raised animals, and taste fresh and delicious. They also make fantastic sausages with natural casing. Our favorites are the Italian turkey, chicken curry, and tandoori lamb =] The only thing I don't buy from the co-op are my eggs and milk. Their organic free-range sustainable hormone-free happy farm dairy is just too expensive. Although I must say their cage-free eggs taste a whole lot better. Go to Trader Joe's for cheaper dairy. Yogurt, however, is really cheap here, and the options are endless. Much better than Trader Joe's! read more

I'm posting this here because today I experienced some of the rudest customer service I've had in my life, in one of the least places I would expect to experience that. My intention to post is merely to call attention to your workers conduct in hopes that you will be able to avoid circumstances like this in the future. This employee was not only rude in acknowledging the fact that she had a customer in front of her, as she was mostly engaged talking to another cashier while ringing me. No greeting after I said hello, however, it wasn't the lack of acknowledgement that offended me. After having to look at the total on the screen because she did not bother to tell me that - it's like I was invisible-I proceeded to go ahead and swipe my card. Usually, at least it's always been my experience at this establishment- I am asked wether I want my receipt or not so I looked towards her expecting she will at very least do that. Instead she dismissed me with a childish "goodbye" that had more attitude than friendliness while waving her hand at me. She quickly proceeded to ring the next customer. Ideally I would have gotten her name and call a supervisor. But given that she did not provide me with a receipt or the opportunity to do things differently, I am posting a picture of this staff person here. As a women of color you often wonder about wether these type of micro-aggressions and wether that was racist. I believe that when you hand your hard earned money to someone , the least that you should be greeted with is a good service.
