And my toddler loved it too, so that's a huge +! We got the beef momo, great portion and tasty. We also got the been hand pies. Yum!! I could have eaten a ton of those! Wonderful!! I really had high expectations for this restaurant but it wasn't really up to the mark. The chicken dumplings tasted pretty good however the laphing had a weird taste to it. Delicious!! It was one of the very few places open on Christmas Day, but I am super glad I stopped in for brunch. For the starters, we had their Momo dumpling and Shabaley. I really enjoyed the Shabaley and if its one appetizer you should get, it is this! It was fried to perfection and reminded me of empanadas. Each order comes with 3 beef patties and although having 1 of them is filling enough, I think I could've kept on eating. Their hot sauce is delicious. As a fan of spicy food, their hot sauce had a good kick and it makes you want more!! For my entree, I had the baked eggs. There was a lot of veggies baked into it with the egg. They had cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, peppers when I went but they are a farm to table so I think it may vary. We also tried their jasmine kombucha on tap which was fizzy and sparkly and full of jasmine taste. If you like jasmine and kombucha, this drink is perfect for you. My fiancé ordered their fried chicken sandwich. He really enjoyed it as I was able to sneak in 1 bite of it! He really liked it and he wished there was more to eat. Dawa's is probably the hottest and newest brunch spots in Queens at the moment. Better yet, it is something unique and different to the brunch scene. It is Tibetan-American style! While there are already established Tibetan spots in Queens, having it as brunch is a first for me. Dawa's serves up American breakfast items such as french toast, pancakes, baked eggs, and etc. and they have Tibetan Momo dumplings. Baked Eggs dish is probably the most popular item here. The one was with two eggs, garlic scape, roasted potatoes, asparagus, and a sourdough toast in a super hot skillet. I loved the spicy red sauce that tops the eggs. It was pretty good when you mix everything together! Momo Dumplings are surprisingly really good! My party shared a Vegetable, Chicken, and Beef dish. The orange spicy sauce was amazing! I feel like a 4* rating is a tad high, as I wasn't hugely impressed by Dawa's and found my meal pretty good but not amazing. There are other places that I'd rather go for brunch and given that Dawa's doesn't have a liquor license, other restaurants present as more appealing brunch destinations. The food here is prepared with care, and they use quality ingredients, but the waits are long and the food you get here isn't worth a long trek. That said, I haven't tried their Tibetan food so I can't comment on that (though there are a number of Himalayan options in the Sunnyside/Woodside/Jackson Heights area). The much-hyped fried chicken sandwich: just as everyone describes, this is a skillfully executed dish. The chicken is moist and tender and the fry coat is perfectly crispy, crunchy, and not too heavy. The brioche-y bun stands up well to the chicken, and the only changes I would make to this dish are: adding more pickled onions for flavor/texture dimension, and subbing the potato chips (which are excellent: thin, crispy, and fresh -- but not a great match for the sandwich) with some other sort of side, maybe a slaw. The fish tacos were totally fine. However, you can definitely get better tacos for less money at any number of Mexican trucks/restaurants around here. Dawa's is a cute, light-filled, and hip-looking place (and they carry fancy Dammann Freres tea), with friendly service and reasonable brunch prices, but I'm not sure I'd venture out here if I weren't already in the neighborhood. read more

Hands down, one of the best restaurant in Queens. My fiance and I learned of this spot a few years ago when they attended a Brooklyn Night Market. It was such a great experience that we needed to find out where their restaurant was. When I found out it was in Queens, we knew we had to visit since it was near where we live. This was our fifth time visiting and have always enjoyed all of our experiences here. The food is always on point and always great. We ordered the Thebthuk, Tsel-baley, pork chili, and Jhasha Katsa. We enjoyed all of our dishes and they never disappoint. We will definitely be coming back every now and then when we are in the neighborhood. W O W! the interior of this place is so aesthetic and on point! I like how chill and cozy this place is and how there are flowers everywhere around the resto. Thenthuk 4/5 - bone marrow broth was so good and homey. Love how there was a nice spicy kick to it. The hand pulled noodles was chewy. The beef was tender. Highly rec to try! Chicken momo 4/5 - the momo was so flavorful and the sauce that came with it has a nice herb taste. Really interesting! But, was slightly disappointed because I was expecting it to be a little spicy. Baked egg 3/5 - the sourdough bread has a nice flavor to it. The dish itself was ok, a little too oily for me. The taste was somewhat a hint of salt and pepper and a little a sour because of the sauce that they used for this dish. Dawa's has been killing it. The menu has been changing frequently lately, likely to accommodate the new produce of Spring. And it's always a joy. Sometimes things we enjoy leave the menu, or move from the brunch menu to the dinner menu, but there's always a few things that really excite us. This past weekend it was the new squid dish. While waiting for our food, we smelled the unmistakable fragrance of a salty sea thing, wreathed in aromatics, coming from the kitchen. And we were overjoyed to discover it belonged to the squid we ordered, served charred atop a bed of artichoke hearts, rhubarb salsa, and toasted bread. The squid was incredibly fresh and fragrant, and it paired incredibly well with the tartness of the rhubarb. But also worth noting were the sunchokes and soft-boiled eggs. Admittedly, whenever sunchokes are on a menu, I'm smitten. They're like potatoes that have been shrunken down; smaller and kinda funny-looking, but with much-improved texture and flavor (thicker, nuttier skin, but creamier on the inside). And you can't go wrong when they're slathered in a rich, bright, herby tomato sauce, which is apparently the same sauce served with their momo, just without the hot pepper. Service here is fantastic, and the coffee quite wonderful as well. Nary a bad weekend could be had, if it started at Dawa's. read more

I came here with a friend after searching for some breakfast spots. This was our first time eating here. It's a cute, slightly rustic and small space. We only tried their breakfast items as that was all they were serving until brunch time (starts at 11:30 on weekdays) I ordered the French omelette with Gruyere and kale inside. It came with a small side salad with potatoes. My friend ordered the platter that came with ham, sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs, toast and potatoes. I thought my food was decent. Came here on a Tuesday night for dinner 2 hours before closing. It's a small cafe, with a few people drinking tea and using the cafes wifi. The barista/ waiter gave us the option for dinner or to just just something for the café. Since this was my first time, I decided to get dinner there. I ended up getting a few things from the menu. I got the pancakes from the brunch menu which were amazing. I have had some bad pancakes before (too dry, too big, too bland) but these were just the right taste. From the "Ethnic" section: I also got the Shabaley, which are the Tibetan beef patties. So crunchy and good. There could have been a bit more meat in there but the shell was amazing. Got the noodle soup. I thought this was kind of bland. Mushroom soup had a kick to it, which I enjoyed. Went on a Sunday morning for brunch. Had a little bit of a wait, around 20 mins, and a little more when waiting for the food. I love the simple menu, which covers the standard brunch items: egg Benedict, pancakes, eggs and toasts etc and some traditional Himalayan inspired food. I had a butternut squash soup, and a Himalayan inspired dish: homemade beef noodles. I love the butternut Square soup, it's the real deal (not canned or soup paste), and sweet. The noodle itself was god, but the presentation wasn't very appetizing. I don't think there were enough beef, which made it look like just noodle drowned in soup, and like someone ate everything on top before it was served. My fiancée suggest this place after hearing great things about it. Upon arrival I noticed the B grade given to them by the department of health, but I didn't let that deter me mainly cause i trust my fiancée's decision. Anyway we were seated immediately and our server was ready to take our orders. Just a heads up they do not serve alcohol. We mainly came there for the Himalayan food. We started with the vegetable momo, which is basically Yu-choy green, potatoes, and fresh coriander. The vegetable momo was good, especially when paired with hot chili sauce. For my main dish I had Shogo-Numtrak Baley. This is basically potato sautéed in shallot and spice served with home made fried Tibetan flatbread, which was delicious.I also added the hot chili sauce to the potatoes to give it more of a kick. I literally left nothing on my plate. My fiancée had the Thenthuk. This dish consist of Tibetan pulled noodles, beef, and daikon in bone marrow broth. We're vegetarians so she requested it without beef and as a result she did not enjoy it. According to her the Thenthuk lacked flavor and I believe that was because the beef wasn't applied, which deprived the entire dish. I'd like to return and try the vegetable stir fried noodles. Every dish I've tried I've been impressed with and love that their menu is a combination of Tibetan and farm-to-table brunch choices. That said, it'll satisfy most members of your group as well as your sweet -- and savory -- tooth! Food: Where do I begin? I've tried half their menu by now, so here's what I've enjoyed thus far. (1) Their pancakes are delicious. Made from scratch and adorned with fresh in-season fruits. If want something savory and eat pork, add a side of bacon. (2) The buttermilk chicken sandwich is savory in all the right ways and comes with handcut chips. (3) The baked eggs, which come in a burning skillet, are tasty and perfect for dipping. (4) One of the best momos I've had and on par with the Tibetan Dumpling Cafe. (5) Their burger is surprisingly good! The meat has a lot of flavor and is very high quality. Totally exceeded my expectations and easily has become something both my husband and I crave. (6) French toast. Delicious! (7) Butternut-squash soup. I personally like this a little bit saltier, but it hit the spot on a cold winter day. Drinks: They have good/strong coffee and a small, but good selection of tea. The juice is a bit on the small end so caveat emptor. Decor: Beautiful. From the fresh cut flowers in vases and Edison bulbs to the actual earthenware flatware. After seeing Dawa's recycled wine punts, I went out to buy myself a set! The tables and chairs are a melange of mixed individual pieces that together go really well. A+ / I wish they could decorate my apartment! Service: Friendly, quick, and non-intrusive. Everyone there is a joy to chat with and very friendly. I don't know the waiter's name, but he's fantastic and always in a great mood! Price: Good value. Since opening, they've increased their prices, but definitely worthwhile based on how fresh and well prepared their dishes are. This place is absurdly, ridiculously good. We stopped in late one Friday night where it was empty, so we weren't sure what to think. The dinner menu doesn't have the fried chicken sandwich FYI, which I was really looking forward to so I'll have to be back anyway! We got the strawberry lemonade (refreshing) and the beef momo dumplings, beef patties, and stewed pork with bun. That stewed pork was so stickily good, with enough red pepper and spices that I wanted to eat it every time I was sick. Just pure comfort food. The bun was large and fluffy, and dipping it in the sauce made it all the better. The need patties were kind of like an empanada but circular. It came with a super spicy chili sauce. It was the best beef empanada-like food I've ever had. The dumplings were great as well. Kind of like soup dumplings but shaped like normal dumplings. The sauce at the bottom was refreshing too. The only thing bad thing I can say is that a waitress spent the entire time taking to another table and they forgot about our strawberry lemonade until I reminded them. Came here to grab a quick bite with a friend and we were both pretty blown away by this local Himalayan/ American fusion cafe. First of all, woodside is changing and it's been a while since I've stepped my way around this neighborhood. The cafe is very clean and has such a "Brooklyn" vibe to it. Ordered their beet + orange juice which to my surprise costed about $3.25 which was actually less than a cup of latte. Extremely fresh. 5 stars. I had the baked eggs which came with sizzling home fries, seasonal veggies (they change it here and there) tomatoes and a slice of toasted sourdough for you to dip in the eggs. Duh. I've always said that for a real culinary vacation, one could spend a week in Queens. A lot of these communities are incredibly diverse....and a true window away from the Disnification/Gentrification/Economic Ethnic Cleansing that Manhattan has largely become. We were down here for the fireworks on the East River..my friend's wife is from Nepal, so we Ubered into Sunnyside Queens. I cant say I had a wave of nostalgia coming into this borough (I spent the first three years of my life here..), but more of an amazement of the diversity of this neighborhood...a lot of Irish still live here but it's increasingly an incredible quilt of pan-Asia, India, and Mexican. Arrived at 1:45pm on a Sunday with four friends and was able to be seated right away, the lunch/brunch menu is divided into two sides of a sheet of paper, one side American and and the other, Himalayan options. One of our group is a frequent patron and confided to us that basically everything was good. Though we stuck mostly with American menu, we did try the veggie momo from the Himalayan side which was not bad, though the flavor (chive?) could be a hit or miss. The baked egg skillet was hearty and delicious. The fish was well-prepared and paired nicely with fritters. The spaetzel was out-of-this-world. WOW. I walked passed this place a few weeks ago and put it on my "Brunch Collection", with the hopes of getting to it someday. Today was that day! With a group of five of us we made it happen. There was little bit of a wait for a table(we didn't make a reservation), we got the table near the window. Service was perfect, with only two waiter and so many tables they made it seem easy. As it being our first time here we decided to try the Himalayan menu. As a avid "bruncher" the uniqueness of the dishes was a welcomed change from my norm. Oh my woah! We were in town on vacation and booked an Air BNB near this gem. We followed some yelp reviews and decided to give brunch a try at Dawa's.... best decision we have ever made (other than finding each other of course :)). Anywho, we had the baked eggs with seasonal vegetables (and a side of bacon cause I need meat). Absolutely fantastic , so many flavors , colors and soooo fresh!! My boyfriend had the buttermilk chicken and barely spoke while we ate (also barely shared ...). The sandwich was also freshly made , juicy, flavorful ...and filling. We highly recommend trying it ! Momma bear had picture perfect pancakes with strawberries and Blueberries (and bacon). So fluffy with organic syrup served in an adorable little tin thing. Service was great !!!!! Our server (Matthew) was so friendly and attentive. If the food wasn't bomb his service alone would have forced us to leave a great review .... but the food was also bomb so... double whammy :) Overall - Recommend recommend recommend.
