Great experience. Came here for a birthday party on the 15th floor of the hotel and made reservations at Dawson's. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and professionally. Finally dined it at Dawson's. They validate for the Hyatt parking garage, which is very accommodating as opposed to finding street parking. The pan seared scallops were delicious. I love the mixture of the green pea hummus, lemon vinaigrette, pickled ginger, and the cucumber relish. The Australian wagyu with the black garlic butter crust was very flavorful. I was slightly disappointed with the texture of the steak. It was not as tender as I would prefer. The Vietnamese coffee crème brûlée was just okay. I prefer the traditional crème brûlée. I would rate this place a 3.5/5. We went here for my boyfriend's birthday. The waiter was kind and attentive and the service from our experience was great. We walked in and were surprise that people were wearing T-shirts even though there was a dress code but it makes sense since the restaurant is located inside a hotel. The bread that we were served had a very hard crust and the butter was a cold block that made it difficult to spread on the bread. Not the best first impression. For appetizers we ordered a Caesar salad ($14) and crab cakes ($30+). Both were good but it came with a high price and not the biggest portions. For entrees we ordered a filet and prime rib eye. Both were cooked to our liking. The flavors wasn't outstanding but it wasn't bad either. Overall, it has above mid food but with everything taken in consideration, price, and ambiance it's a 3.5. It's very nice inside, has a fancy steak house vibe. The staff was just as incredible as the carrot cake! So friendly and tentative. I do feel the steak could've used more seasoning, but it was still so yummy. The lobster tail was so worth it! For drinks I LOVED their lemon drop. It wasn't on the menu, but Brandon heard my ideal type of cocktails and suggested that one and he did not miss! I ordered like, 3 of them. When I mentioned the food was cold they said how come I didn't say anything so they could reheat the food. I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. Located on the lobby floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, you get greeted by the entrance person, who takes you to your seat. Next, we had 3 waiters/waitresses all with roles of taking your order and making sure your water glass is filled and you have unlimited supply of bread and butter. As far as drinks, my wife Sokny had 2 cups of Rose wine and I had a corona brought out in a tall glass. For our appetizers, we went with the Dungeness crab cakes. It had a hummus sauce on the bottom and cajun seasonings put inside the crab cake itself, along with a guacamole sauce on top. Only 2 come per order, so if you have a big party, order more. For our entree, we both went the fish of the day, which was Black cod with a chutney and sweet potato purée. The pasta in this dish almost looked like risotto. We also had a side of asparagus. Now because it was our anniversary, our waiter gave us a complementary dessert, which we ordered the Japanese cheesecake. Also, Sokny got a Billy Smokin gun from the bar after paying for the food, and that was on the house as well. All the food was delicious. Lastly, the restaurant validates your parking inside the garage up to three hours, which means we didn't have to pay for parking either. In all, we spent $225 between the two of us. A group of us started our dine downtown week at Dawson's. We arrived without a reservation and the hostess gave us an hour expected wait. We were fine with that because we were waiting on a friend. But somehow she ended up squeezing us in at a table in front of the kitchen after only 10 min. The table location was pretty cool because you could see the dishes coming over the pass and the chefs cooking away. We all had their $45 prefix menu and some drinks. Our server was so attentive and even though we were only getting the "cheaper" menu he treated us like we were buying their $100 steak. I really appreciated his kindness and attentiveness. The appetizers (duck confit pot pie and tako-tacos) were both very flavorful. The confit was more cozy and the octopus tacos were light and fresh, wrapped with a wonton shell. The sea bass was also very good the compote was made with beans and something sweet like apples maybe, and sweet potatoes. The sea bass was good but the short rib in my opinion was better because it had more dimensions of flavor in every bite. The sea bass was kind of one note. The short ribs had several root veggies with it and what looked like mashed potatoes was definitely a mash of root vegetables like parsnip or rutabaga. I did not enjoy the chocolate dessert at all but my husband enjoyed it just fine. I felt like it lacked sweetness and was just a slab of flavorless chocolate. The twills were really good and tasted like banuelos. The mont Blanc however was amazing. It was interesting how the sauce in the top had a matcha like flavor but wasn't green and eating it as a whole was very rich and sweet, creamy and flavors balanced very well. We also bought a bottle of dessert wine, which was a bit pricey at $60 but tasted so devine. Our server let me try it before buying and it was just so sweet and delicious. I have been to Dawson's twice for dine downtown and I feel like they do a really good job at creating these menus. You can taste the leeks and lobster so it wasn't just one dimensional. The maitai felt strong! It's house made so if you're into tiki drinks, it's a solid choice. The steak was delicious! I would recommend the chimichurri over the bernaise sauce because it was just too fat, thick, and Rich. You would have to eat the sauce in 30 seconds to actually enjoy it, otherwise its a pass. The service was mediocre...nothing particularly attentive or memorable. The Caesar salad was decent if you enjoy a strong, fishy flavor. The steak, however, was extremely disappointing: overcooked, lacking flavor, and nowhere near what you'd expect from a steakhouse. The Brussels sprouts were also underwhelming and tasted like something a kindergartner could have put together. Dawson's is a decent restaurant located in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It has the higher prices of a high end steakhouse, but I found the food (particularly the main dishes) to be okay. The bread and appetizers are great. The main dishes we had were lackluster for the price (these were in the $65-70 per dish range). For example, they have no bone-in steak options and the cuts that did come out seemed to lack a good sear and were on the rarer side of medium rare consistently. I ordered the cioppino and it was lacking. The sauce was not the classic rich tomato sauce with a bit of acid and garlic goodness but a champagne type sauce that lacked flavor and felt more brothlike. I spent years in Sacramento and am particular about my cioppino (shout out to Betty Lou's in SF!) and this was not a classic cioppino. Oh well. The service is friendly and ambience classic steakhouse with wood tones. Overall, it's good for Sacramento but I recommend other options for steak. read more

We planned to have enough time to eat dinner before the show but, we went to a few restaurants in the area only to be turned away. 2 restaurants weren't accepting guests without reservations and another had over an hr wait, it was disappointing. With the Kings game also happening at the arena that same night, it was very busy at the other nearby places such as Cafeteria 15L, Mayahuel, Ella, Capitol Garage, and Prelude. Have been to Dawson's a few times before, and they do participate in Dine Downtown Sacramento Restaurant Week pretty much every year. Located inside the Hyatt Regency. Fresh bread basket and salted butter for the table, a tall bottle of still water. Our server was Ardy, great service! For starters, we shared an order of the pan-seared scallops. These were tasty with the smoky chestnut puree. They also have crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, lobster gnocchi, several salads, soup, crostini, deviled eggs, or a cheese plate. For the main course, we each got an 8-oz Niman Ranch filet with the red wine demi-glace (other sauce options include bearnaise or chimichurri, or even crusts like garlic butter, truffle butter, horseradish butter, or blue cheese butter). My steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare, and came with a side of cauliflower (even a purple floret) and the red wine sauce, yum. They also have a 16oz ribeye, 12oz NY Strip, 8oz Top Sirloin. If you're not into specialty meats there is also a pork chop, lamb, chicken, seafood cioppino, market fish (swordfish or halibut), a burger, or mushroom pasta. We also went with Ardy's recommendation for a side of the garlic parmesan tator tots. So gourmet! They were kind of like arancini/risotto balls but smaller. We didn't have room/time for dessert, unfortunately. The dessert offerings though include chocolate espresso cheesecake, pineapple coconut upside-down cake, carrot cake, chocolate bombe, key lime tart, vanilla gelato, or blueberry pinot noir sorbet. I had the Harvest Green Salad. For our second course I chose the Pan Fried Salmon while hubby had the Grilled NY Steak. The salmon was complimented by delicious mushroom barley risotto which was excellent. I had a taste of my hubby's steak... the meat was tender and was grilled just right to my liking. For dessert we had a choice of Chocolate Espresso Cheesecake and Pineapple-Coconut Upside Down Cake in which we chose one of each. However, after spending way too much time on DoorDash and the room service option for Hyatt, I finally just went downstairs to the steakhouse. Upon arriving I was greeted by the hostess who seated me at a high table by the bar (perfect!). The bartender/waiter came by and I ordered a Ketel One and soda water, extra limes of course! I was pleasantly surprised with the actual extra limes cause most the time I get maybe 2 small wedges and that's it. I asked him what he would suggest and he gave me the obvious, steak steak or steak cause they're a steakhouse but he also recommended the rack of lamb and seafood cioppino. I started with the shrimp cocktail. I'd give it a 3/5 - I didn't love the cocktail sauce. Personal opinion, I'm sure many love it. I then ordered the filet, medium. It was cooked absolutely perfectly! Typically I won't order a steak out because it never comes out correctly. This steak was AMAZING (5/5)!
