I had seen really good reviews about this place and decided to give it a try, unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The place is nice, they have free lemon water, and plenty of seating. Went up to order and the person behind the desk recommended I get the onions with the burger, said that the onions were what made it! I loved that enthusiasm and asked for it as is. I don't usually post about businesses in Montclair but I have to say how disappointing it was with Diesel & Duke on Church today. I was with my kids playing chess on the boards outside. My daughter needed to use the restroom really badly and she has a hard time holding her pee but she said it was poop. Didn't have much time to react. So, I went into Diesel and Duke to use the bathroom because the store was empty and it was literally right next to us. I took my daughter to the bathroom without issue. Then as I'm about to walk her back outside to sit with her brother on the chessboard before coming back in to get a drink at Diesel, the person at the register gets all belligerent and says "that's not right" with the nastiest attitude. I simply responded that it was an emergency for a little girl. He in turn responded that "it didn't matter." I'm guessing he got that way cause he thought I wasn't going to buy anything. But, at that point I did even tell him I was about to buy a drink that I was just walking to the door to let her sit outside because honestly, he didn't deserve an explanation. I mean how tough is it for a vendor in town to be nice to its community members, a child at the very least. I mean that interaction with a child watching, for what a few dollars?!?? Kindness goes a long way. I was so upset that as I was walking out I told him how he lost my business indefinitely and his response was "oh wow.." as though it didn't matter. Clearly. And, good to know. With the all the burger places in town--I would say go else where. Kindness matters. read more

Got Diesel and Duke's to go and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. This thing traveled in the car 20 minutes before I ate it at home and it was still incredible. The bun is soft and you get the melted cheese and burger taste on it. The bacon was crispy, and the burger was so flavorful and came with some awesome sauce and grilled onions. Great burger experience at Diesel and Duke! First time at this local burger spot in the Montclair area. Not really a sit down spot so order ahead for a quicker turn around. We got the standard and the holypeño burgers. Both were full of flavor and very satisfying. They don't shy away from adding jalepeños so make sure you're okay with that before ordering. Add a fried egg if you love yourself. Cajun fries were great too, first time having these, they were crispy and salty with warm southern feel. Service was delightful, very nice people working the orders. They also have mexican sodas for sale which was also my first. Would return! read more

Diesel and Duke has to be one of my all time favorite places to grab a burger. They're greasy and delicious: everything a burger should be! I've been to about half of their NJ locations and tried the burgers and fried dessert options at each. My go to is the standard with bacon tossed ontop, a side of the cajun fries, and you cannot forgot to try their fried Oreos! (even if you had them 100xs before) This location has no parking, a small amount of indoor seating, and a small offering of outdoor seating so be prepared to possibly take your food to go. (TMI but there is no guest bathroom) The staff is extremely friendly and happy to help make suggestions if need be 10/10 read more

This place has good food, but the customer service sucks. I had a good experience the first time, but the cashier was not very courteous this time on my 3rd visit. When I explained to him I ordered my 5 items through the Class Pass App. He just kept telling me I had to "wait for the time slot you selected for the items and that's how it works." I explained to him the last time ordered through the app they were all ready when I got here and that these were the only time slots they gave me to order everything. I can't wait hours at a place waiting to get my food. And the app wouldn't let me cancel the other orders. He could've easily looked at my order confirmation and pushed my order up as if I was ordering there. It was already paid for I didn't see the huge deal he was making out of it. I've never had the problem with any other business I ordered from. They were all extremely accommodating. After trying to reason with him he finally said, "I don't want keep going back and forth about this so I'll do it this time". That was hurtful. I didn't appreciate his attitude about it all. And I've supported this business and came back for their special Japanese collaboration and paid their exorbitant prices for the event. I didn't expected this type of service after my first time. This place has really great burgers and even has an impossible burger option. My favorite so far is the Holypeno burger which has caramelized onion, bacon, Jalepeño, cheese and a spicy mayo on it. You can get single patties or double depending on your appetite. The poutin fries are pretty amazing, best fresh. Comes with little cheese curds and gravy. Upon returning to the work place the to go bag order was a burger but a chicken sandwich was ordered. We went back to fix it and were told that we must have eaten the wrong sandwich. The burgers are a bit smaller than I liked so if you can eat well then I recommend getting two. If you decide to get the fried Oreos, make sure to eat them first or take them out of the box so they do not get soggy. Big mistake on my part but still tasty. The man at the counter was chill, nothing special but seems like a nice guy. I recommend ordering for takeout if you are with a lot of friends because there are not many seats. I had them bookmarked forever so i can try the falafafel burger and the oreos, however i should have checked the menu before coming. falafel burger is no longer on the menu, and like the majority of burger spots that dont cater to veggie peeps, they have the impossible burger. im not complaining, this is a burger spot - what would i expect? however, 4 stars because ive had the impossible burger plenty of times so to say i can try a burger here wouldnt be fair. however, the topping i chose to get on top were good. i opted for the impossible burger with the "smokeshow burger" toppings. first off, i love the mix of BBQ sauce and onion ring on top. however, i think they had a heavy hand with the BBQ sauce. i wouldnt drown the burger in it. the grill at diesel and duke really char grills the impossible burger so damn well. i was in love! the cheese came through too. it was very messy thanks to the abundance of bbq sauce. fried oreos are a must get. they are fried well, covered in pancake dough and a really nice touch to end a meal. hand cut fries were pretty close to perfect. the potatoes taste good and overall they had a slight crunch. i cant try any other proteins, maybe in the future if they had another option for me - again im not crying, its a burger spot - i never expect special treatment. maybe one day ill be back =D read more

Let's get this out of the way: the food here is delicious. Two Rivers Brewing in Easton, PA years ago knew about the wonderful alchemy of peanut butter and bacon on a burger. Now Diesel & Duke are offering something similar but with sriracha that helps to balance that sticky sweetness of the peanut butter and I couldn't eat it fast enough. (My kids weren't all that impressed with their 'Standard Burgers' though.) The french fries (a seriously large portion) have a nice snap when you bite into them and they're generously seasoned. Small menu. Small cooler with just a few drink options. Small counter space (with eight chairs) if you're eating in. Not cheap (but what would you expect in Montclair?). This budding franchise is already better than Zinburger for sure. (Thankfully this outpost isn't in a congested part of Montclair.) read more

Stopped in at this location in Montclair for a bite to eat while cruising around with a couple of friends. I tend to order the most unique thing on the menu, because... YOLO I guess? I got the Peanut Butter Bacon Sriracha burger (the PBBS) and a couple of fried Oreos. To some people this may be a bit adventurous, but I'm all-in on Elvis' PB Banana and bacon sandwich, so it wasn't an outlandish order. The peanut butter played really well with the sriracha - I'll make a note to add for extra sriracha next time to kick up the heat a bit. Oreos were good - I didn't get a chance to have them fresh out of the fryer because we sat outside on a pretty windy day and I jetted after wolfing down my burger. Had the opportunity while in this town to grab a burger and then some.. Pros: tasty burger... friend enjoyed his too.. can't go wrong with any burger on the menu.. - fries - fresh cut and a full bag... Cons: no restrooms.. tight place to sit inside (6) chairs.. outside seating... not ideal in cold weather - need a restroom -- has to drive 7 min away to use the restroom and wash hands. 30 min wait to receive the burger.. The manager was happy to tell me there is a 30 min wait..I didn't really think that was cool the way he was acting like bragging, yo, just a burger spot chill dude. Made a choice, we were hungry and from the looks of the hood not too many choices so we stayed and loaded up on food.. fried Oreos with cereal toppings, good idea but overkill you ask me.
