Extremely disappointed with this place, especially after seeing the great reviews. This is my first, and possibly my only, time here. I came on a Saturday at 9 and the restaurant still wasn't open despite the sign saying it opened at 8:30 a.m. I decided to wait a few more minutes to give it a chance because of the reviews and I was hankering for a good breakfast burrito. Ordering was fine, took the servers a bit to get settled in and take my order. I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito which came out to $9. I was very disappointed in what I recieved. $9 for this small burrito just as big as the of my hand, and I have small hands. The taste was okay, nothing amazing, typical of a chorizo burrito. I asked for extra salsa, and they gave me one more flat Ramekin . Not sure if they had made the rest of the salsa for the day yet and were keeping their reserve? This was our first time here. I got bacon wrapped shrimp, my husband Birria de Chibo. First of all... the beans were amazing! My bacon wrapped shrimp was super yummy. My husband said his Birria was yummy. Yuri was our server. She was very nice and attentive! It appears that the wait staff all work as a team. Great job!!! Came here for lunch today and while I thought the food was good, I wouldn't call it amazing. The service was exceptional, everyone was very nice and helpful and the restaurant was packed with people. You could tell that It was a very popular lunch spot in Brea. I had the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and everything tasted fresh but slightly on the bland side. I eat here about 2-3 times a week because it is conveniently located in the same shopping center as my work. All the ladies who work here are lovely, really. Friendly staff, prompt service and some really excellent dishes. I usually order the crunchy potato taco or shrimp taco on a flour tortilla. I have ventured out and tried the shrimp cocktail (fresh) the ceviche (perfect summer lunch) pozole (tastes just as good as the one my mom can bang out) cheese and chilies tamales (excellent!!) I notice that their street tacos are also popular but I haven't tried them and one of my regulars always orders their Chile Colorado burrito and I trust he has good taste in Mexican food. Overall I'm just stoked that there's good Mexican food so close by and I wish them all the success in the world! :) read more

If you read my reviews, you will see that a large percentage are for Mexican Restaurants. De Oro La Puerta is as good (if not better) than anything I've found in OC. I first tried the Al Pastor plate and it was as good as anything I've had in Baja. Homemade corn tortillas were spectacular and they brought me two separate spicy salsas that I loved. My wife had a chimichanga and devoured it. Not greasy at all. Could not wait to go back and I tried the chile relleno. Made with a pobalano chile and they nailed it. The breading is usually a relleno's downfall but this was perfect. Try De Oro La Puerta. You won't be sorry. read more

I usually get the Chile Verde breakfast. My daughter loves the Nutella pancakes. She just added Albondigas soup to her fav list. Tried this place for take out for the first time tonight after seeing it on BreaNOW.. did not disappoint- the food and customer service were excellent!! Ordered for the entire family so we had the carne asada wet burrito (red & green sauce), tacos with the homemade tortillas, and albondigas soup.. all awesome!! Also got both the red & green salsa, some of the best salsa I have ever had. It's the only walking distance Mexican food near my house so I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered tripas, Asada, Pastor, Pollo, and shrimp tacos. The meats quality was not actually too bad. But I was pleasantly surprised by the Tripas tacos. They cooked it where the meat is extra crispy and crunchy with every bite. Made me happy. They have regular tortillas and handmade tortillas. The handmade tortillas are not too bad but for the price I think it's better to just go with the regular tortillas. The price is more than a taco truck but the portion is moderately sized. The workers are all friendly here and restaurant is clean. There salsa verde and tomatillo salsa is homemade and you can the burnt flavor of each. Overall, pretty authentic Mexican food in the area. Now I have somewhere to go when I have the taco munchies. Salsa was delicious and spicy!!! Food was ok. Our friend referred us here, said it was the best Mexican food. I ordered Shrimp cocktail, friends ordered tacos, and kids ordered quesadillas. They were super greasy quesadillas so the kids didn't eat them and typically they love quesadillas. My friends tacks had salsa on them that was so spicy she couldn't enjoy her tacos, so she didn't eat them after a couple bites. When we told the waitress, she laughed and said "next time ask for no salsa" and walked away..didn't offer to make them again or anything. Second time here and never again. First time we dined in we both had menudo and it was so bland beyond bland (Before corona). Today may 5 called food in Togo and that was it for me asked for no sour cream and I just love opening up my food to find a nice helping in between the guacamole and pico de Gallo. Also all the pico was so juicy that it made my food super soggy! Thank god I had some condiments left over from north gate it kinda saved my food. Also got tacos for my son and it just amazed me how you can have meat that's cooked and meat that looks like it was just thrown in there and not even cooked it was so pink not one ounce of color on it. My fiance and I thought that the food was very good, but not the best out of comparable dishes we've had at other places. -Enchiladas (red with cheese): The sauce had a unique flavor but we thought it was a bit underseasoned and could use a bit more complexity. Overall an enjoyable dish. -Mulitas (with lengua): Soooo delicious!! The ingredients were lengua with cheese, refried beans, and guacamole inside two crispy corn tortillas. Paired with the green salsa, it was awesome! Maybe it would have been good with chilena (green avocado salsa) too. -Sope (with asada): Solid but not particularly special Overall, portions are huge, so the prices are a bit higher than you might expect. I would say the price mostly matches the quantity of food. Maybe each dish is $1 more than average per equivalent portion size. read more

Amazing. I got a burrito with guacamole, sour cream, and chicken(rice and veggies too) and it was amazing. Although I never really order burritos at restaurants(usually tacos), this may or may not be the best burrito I've ever had. I also got street tacos and they were definitely up to par, with perfectly cooked chicken and fresh tortillas. The service isn't anything special, not something to increase or decrease the star rating, but they do have indoor dining at the time of writing. This place was my oasis after a night of drinking and no dinner. I came in feeling like paper and left a happy blob. First off the people here are very warm and welcoming. I looked a mess and sat by myself for lunch at 4pm, yet I was still treated with dignity. First came the chips and salsa. These were really delicious. I destroyed the whole basket with ease, while receiving funny looks from the other patrons of the restaurant. Then came my mole poblano, rich and dark, spicy and soothing. Along with it came the best corn tortillas I have ever eaten in my entire life. These little corn blankets were thick, fresh, and nothing short of amazing. I want to come back just to eat other things with these tortillas they were so good. I left super satisfied with my meal and I was so happy to discover a hidden gem of a restaurant like this. I ordered a breakfast plate previously and it was delicious. It was the Chilaquiles and carne asada plate. I loved it. I ordered it with a sunny side up egg, I devoured it. I went back about a week later. I ordered over the phone. This time I went with the Shrimp Cocktail. I was excited. I put my spoon in and didn't feel the usual resistance that a packed shrimp cocktail usually has. It was all liquid with two little avocado slices and 6 shrimp! Only 6 shrimps, I counted em. 17$ I would expect at least 4 avocado slices and maybe 10 shrimps lol? If you can't give me that many shrimps at least fill me up with other ingredients. So we normally go to this place all the time actually we do takeout once a week and usually everything has gone well. However this time i place a take out order and the order was incorrect. When I called back to see if they could exchange the order as I was not far away, they said no and that I ordered a burrito and not a "torta" first of all standard customer service you cannot tell a customer what they ordered. We literally go there all the time and get the same order. I know what I ordered. Second, I wasn't sitting there asking for my money back or anything like that I just wanted to exchange a burrito for a sandwich? Like it's really not that difficult I was even willing to drive back. The food was just ok not a lot of flavor on the asada burrito to much fat pieces. If you like Hot salsa this is the place burned my taste buds. Overall (2.5 Stars) Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to the reviews. I will likely not be back because I did not enjoy the food at all. In fact i threw most of it away. The asada and al pastor completely missed the mark and my chips were stale. As always, try it for your self. I could have gone on a bad day. Service (3.5 stars): The employees are extremely kind. I called an order-in and was told that it would be available in 15 minutes. I arrived at the 15 minute mark and had to wait an additional 5-7 minutes. While this is not necessarily a big deal, it definitely created some challenges bc I was on a tight timeline. Hence me calling the order in. Location (4 stars): The location is in a shopping center with ample parking. The interior was very comfy and their was a waiting bench for to go orders. Food (0 stars): First I love Mexican food and enjoy trying new locations. My method on a first trip is to try 3-4 things which will give me an indication of how much I will like the restaurant. I try Chips & Salsa, Asada, Al Pastor, and Re-fried Beans. These are common items and should be a great identifier as to how good the food is there. On my visit I ordered 2 Carne Asada & 2 Al Pastor street tacos with Chips and Salsa. The chips were not home made (no big deal) but they were stale. Seriously stale, they barely had a crunch. The red salsa had way too much chilli powder and the tomatillo salsa was palatable. The asada tacos were not good at all. They were topped with onions, cilantro, salsa, and guacamole. The asada did not have a good flavor to it and it did not have the look of flap meat. The cure all for bad asada is to drench it with lime juice and salt. I didn't have any limes. The guacamole did not taste authentic (not saying it wasn't but it certainly didn't taste like it). The Al Pastor tacos did not look like pork at all. I could not taste the marinade on them either. To be honest it took me a moment to realize there were al pastor bc I thought they accidentally gave me all asada. read more

The Enchiladas New Mexico are to die for...basically two cheese enchiladas topped with fried eggs. Good chips and salsa, friendly service, and good enourice, beans and potatoes. Only downside is this place doesn't open too early, 9am? It's a heavy breakfast that is good enough to serve as brunch. read more

I was in the area and wanted a breakfast burrito to go so I stopped here and tried their chorizo burrito and it is easily one of the best I've had. Amazing seasoning with big chunky potatoes in the burrito. It's very filling but it's not the biggest burrito I've had. I was able to finish the whole thing, which I think means it's too expensive at $8. But I will definitely go back and try more things on the menu. Very disappointing day with this restaurant, first of all every time I try to get it delivered they have it shut off, they forget to turn it back on after the crowd is left. This could be days. What I've heard even sitting there is Flan...The worst it's cake like it's awful I'm not sure where the recipe comes from if it's a chef or the owners.
