It was Sunday, on way with motor home from beach area to Desert Hot Springs. Lots of parking on Sunday late morning at this shopping -commercial center. It was a mistake going to Desert Hot Springs that week, temperatures into the 108 degree range...but stopping for lunch at the La Puerta Restaurant was an excellent decision. Great Mexican food. I ate the Lengua Tacos made with hand-made tortillas...very tasty and generous portions of Tongue. Also I ordered the Tortilla Chicken Soup, best I had yet, had generous pieces of chicken, carrots, squash, potato, celery, topped with Tortilla strips and cheese, just the way I like it. My wife had the Pozole, she wanted more hominy, but I like that it had lots of meat. Only reason I did not give it a score of 5, is because it only had one toilet room for both sexes. However it was immaculately clean. I love the place, will come again. Waitress offered to re-fill our Horchata drinks. She explained about her clients wanting a egg atop of the Enchiladas, so that is why they have the New Mexico style Enchiladas on the menu. Restaurant is very clean, lots of room. Their were two waitresses working the room, service was excellent and attentive. I'm a big Street Taco fan and this place have really good street tacos. They also have taco tuesdays. I'm giving this place a very solid 4 star as the place is clean/ friendly/ and have a lot of space. Taste-wise, it's very authentic esp in the North OC area. Please note that their Dollar Taco Tuesdays is now at $1.25 and you have a selection of Asada/ Pollo/ Carnitas/ Pastors They also have Cabeza (Beef Cheek) and Lengua (Tongue) for $1.75. Note that most of their tacos and salsa are VERY hot... overly powering spicy.. Asada- it's more of crumbled steak. The tortilla soaked up all the juice and tends to be on soggy side. Very spicy.. but it's a very solid taco Pollo- I really don't care much for chicken tacos... it's plain.. and it's chicken. nothing to get excited about. Pastor- roast pork taco. very tasty. but very spicy. Cabeza- although this is $1.75, it is by far the best tacos that they serve. also not as spicy as Asada/ Pastor. so you can actually taste the meat. Go for THIS!!!! Lengua- This is $1.75 but is as close to authentic as you can get. very tasty. if you don't mind you are eating tongue. go for this as well..!!!! Very very solid place for street tacos. 4 star!!! took a point out because it's too spicy and some of the tacos have room for improvement. read more

We used to live a couple miles from this place and yet never checked it out, too bad. However it's still near my work, so we went here for lunch one day with a big group and it was great. I had Chile verde - nice pork, very good green sauce. It also included quite a few slices of pepper, I would have preferred a little less of that and a little more pork, but it's a minor detail. Rice and beans were good, chips and salsa were good. I would definitely check it out if you are looking for a nice family-run Mexican restaurant. read more

Came here with the family for some tacos. Street tacos are kinda small but with pretty decent flavor. I got al pastor. Kids got bean and cheese burrito nothing special. Mom got the mole tasted different like to much curry spice on the mole we both didn't care for it. Stick with street tacos on taco Tuesday's. read more

I've been several times here but most likely will not be back because they've raised prices so that it's now overpriced for the quality. The service is great but hard to pay $12-$15 for plate of mexican food. The rice is Tex-Mex Style with corn, carrots and green beans mixed in. Sometimes the refried beans are great and other times they're very blah. The chips and salsa are free but will be charged for a refill without warning. They should let you know there's a charge. The chips are cold & pale on top of it. The salsa is rather spicy at times. Flutas & chimichangas are decent. The chicken was easy to cut but the beef was stringy and hard to cut through but good flavor. They put one full flauta on a bunch of water that came off the lettuce on the plate. I don't care for their enchiladas... the sauce is weird. Typically really like enchiladas but learned not to order here. Truthfully didn't mind quality when was $8 or $9 a plate but at $12 it's hard to justify going. read more

This was fantastic! The food was excellent and the service was fast and friendly. First, the salsa that they serve with chips while you wait for your food was great - it had that perfect medium kick and full of flavor. Then I got the carne asada and camarones. The meat was tender, full of flavor, and there was not even a touch of gristle - a good cut! It looked thin, but I was 100% satisfied! The shrimp was with the garlic sauce and let me tell you, the garlic was wonderful! The shrimp are already peeled and ready for you. The beans are tasty, the rice is tasty, the corn tortillas are excellent! And the price was good - I felt like it was completely fair for the food and service. 5 stars. Go and be pleased. read more

I love this restaurant for my taco fix for my family. We always order 50+ tacos and they always deliver in taste, presentation, and customer service. We have a big family. Sometimes I give only 20 minutes notice because it's a last minute decision and still they deliver. I have to mention, they also have the best green sauce. I know this restaurant has mostly good reviews, but unfortunately my experience was the opposite! I ordered the carnitas plate and it was awful! Most of the pork was as dry as jerky, and it was deep fried to the point that I had to wring out the grease with a paper towel. The beans and Spanish rice were bland. The "pico de gallo" served on the side was about 6 small cubes of tomato. I definitely won't eat here again. read more

I have to give them 5 stars for there Asada Wet burrito, the asada is always on point, they make there flour tortillas fresh there, and the red sauce is just hot enough to make you want to sip on your ochata drink! I've tried the wet burrito in chicken as well and the diced chicken is a nice option if your not able to eat meat. The place is always packed but the wait for food is never long. The employees could use more training but this is a new restaurant so I guess it's going to take some time. read more

La Puerta is located in an unassuming plaza on the corner of Kraemer and Birch. You can expect a very reasonable $10-$15 average per plate. I had the Carnitas Dinner Plate for $9.99 which was delicious.The meat was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp on the outside. All the sides were great as well, and I especially enjoyed the spoon of guac the plate came with. Two thumbs up for the side of homemade tortillas, which was a nice touch. If I had another thumb to put up, I'd give them one more for the service. The waitress was friendly, checked on us multiple times, and gladly refilled our complimentary chips and salsa with a smile. El Farolito reigns supreme in this neck of the woods, but La Puerta gives them a good run for their money. Give this place a try! read more
