Yes, yes, yes! I ordered catering from La Puerta for a small get together and I was very impressed with everything. All of my guests remarked on the quality and taste of the food. We had street tacos with steak and chicken, which also came with rice, beans, onions, salsa, and cilantro. We also ordered cheese enchiladas and homemade chips. Everything was absolutely delicious. I will say most preferred the chicken over the steak. The prices were more than reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. The ordering process was easy and everyone was so nice and helpful. So I accidentally left a review for a place I thought was this one previously. I have eaten here twice now ; first time we came my cousin was in town from Japan and wanted mole so I yelped mole and this place came up. It first glimpse its unassuming and kind of hole in the wallish in a strip mall but I was very impressed. Although it's not fancy it appears organized and efficient. Both times it had plenty of people waiting (first a Tuesday then a Friday ) but we got seated pretty fast. The menu has lots of intriguing things from classics to some inventive original dishes. It comes of as somewhere between authentic and Americanized. The second time my son wanted tacos and they satisfied his craving. I had nachos and they were great with what appeared to be house made from flour tortillas so they stayed nice and crispy even after they sat with all the toppings. It would have been better if the used real cheese instead of nacho cheese but still great because of the chips. Service was fast and attentive even though it was busy. There are several Mexican food places I like in Brea (Pepe's, Cha chas and el Durango) all for different reasons but this place has great all around menu and reasonable price. Wow!!! This is one of the best barbacoas I have eaten anywhere in Southern California. Not greasy not dry just 100% delicious! They have a large dining room which sadly is (like too many others during Covid) empty. I am sure they have a great local following which is great for the neighborhood but this place deserves to have a line out the door right now. This place has some good items, but isn't worth the hype, and definitely isn't as authentic as it claims. My wife ordered the mole poblano and I ordered the huevos rancheros con carne asada. We were also attracted by the handmade corn tortillas. As soon as the food arrived, we noted that the beans had melted Jack cheese and not queso fresco. Not a good sign, but not a deal breaker. My wife's mole was good, but the tortillas weren't as great as should be expected for handmade tortillas. I ordered my eggs over easy, but over medium would be a charitable description. My carne asada was also dry, and the potatoes were clearly from a freezer. I also wasn't impressed with the ranchero sauce, which was basically served over chips, not the homemade tortillas as expected. The lack of alcohol was another demerit. Amazing sopes! I highly recommend the sope de chorizo, it is the best. The sope itself is made fresh and perfectly fried, the chorizo is beyond delicious, and the sope itself is huge. The agua de tamarindo is so good and sweet! read more

My friends and I came for a lunch after finding it on Yelp. I was very impressed by the quality of food and the authenticity. In my opinion the biggest way you can tell the quality of a Mexican restaurant is in the little things: chips, beans, rice, etc. Those were fantastic here and show the care that the restaurant places in their food. I got the goat which was pretty solid. Their horchata was not the best I've had, but still good and not-chalky. Only sad part was that they ran out of lengua. The prices were reasonable as well. Came here for lunch a while back and can't stop eating here. We eat here about 2 times a week and try to eat something different all the time. Everything taste just like it was home cooked and the freshly made corn tortillas are amazing. The green chilaquiles are to die for and the chicharones in salsa Verde will knock your socks off. The best part of my dining experience tonight was that the food was fresh and flavorful, and the staff was super friendly - definitely some of the nicest people I've ever met at a restaurant. I had the sizzling fajitas and they were great - good flavor, lots of chicken, comes with two flour tortillas. But what I highly recommend is the New Mexican enchiladas (you can add meat to those, which I recommend) with the green sauce. It was so good, and it's way cool that they let us customize it the way we wanted. As for the ambiance etc. it has a down to earth vibe and sort of that neighborhood feel like this is where locals come and the servers know them by name. Only suggestion would be different lighting, the fluorescent bulbs aren't that inviting. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and can't wait to return. read more

The only reason I am leaving two stars is because the service was sound. This was my first time visiting after their expansion and remodel. The larger size of the restaurant did not stop them from cramming everyone into one corner of the restaurant even when there were plenty of servers to go around. They crammed a large party behind us with a child in a carrier. The dad had to go get another chair from vacant table to sit the child. We got our chips and they were stale. Now that should have been a big sign to us to leave, but no we stayed. I ordered the Chili-Colorado breakfast with a scrambled egg and potatoes. Zero stars, one of the worst example of this dish I have ever had at a restaurant. The egg was a dark brown hockey puck devoid of any moisture. I actually had difficulty cutting it with a knife. The potatoes that did land on my plate, I think all six of them, were little rocks. Now the meat, the alleged star of the plate, was tough and lacked the cooking it takes to make a true Chili-Colorado. It looked like they took fatty pieces of beef and poured on enchilada sauce. The sauce was bright red and it was clear that it had not cooked for anytime. There are so many other options for good Mexican food in the area, we will be taking advantage of those and leaving this one behind. read more

This was a great find on Yelp just passing through the area on a cold, rainy Saturday morning. I had the Menudo and it was really good! I love a Menudo that is spicy. Also, it was a Big Bowl- Great Value. I had to try the Carne Asada Tacos on the Homemade Corn Tortillas- They were Awesome although pricey. We've been coming here for taco Tuesday for almost a year. We come at least once a month, usually more. Although we always love our food, the last 3 times we have had terrible service and several issues! In February we came 3 out of the 4 Tuesday's... Generally, we love coming here because we can eat quickly and fairly cheap. This past visit we waited a long time for our chips and salsa...we waited even longer for our drinks to come out. My soda wasn't good. It was just soda and no syrup. By the time they came back around so I could tell them my drink wasn't good, our food was coming out. Ended up having to pay full price for a soda that I only had 1 of because they never came around for a refill. When we finally got our bill the last 2 visits, we were being charged way more than the prices reflected on the menus. We asked our waitress each time about the price and they both brushed it off like nothing was wrong. All in all, it's good food but not the best service or customer experience. Be sure to check your bill thoroughly because you could be up charged for items! Sad that we will have to find a new taco Tuesday place! read more

We came in for the menudo, not much flavor to it, we asked for napkins 3 times, we asked for onions and cilantro 3 times as well so we could season the menudo. Alright my overall experience here was good. I had 5 street tacos. 1 asada, 1 pastor, 1 chicken, 1 carnitas, and 1 chicharone. The asada and chicken tacos were by far the best. I mean it's pretty hard to mess those two up but they were solid. Both 8/10. The pastor taco was very average I give it a 6/10, I normally love pastor tacos. Now the carnitas taco was garbage 4/10, it had no flavor what so ever. Even with onions and hot sauce it tasted like I was eating a plastic taco you buy your four year old daughter to play house with. But even worse was the Chicharone taco, the meat in that was the hardest meat I had ever eaten (no homo). I swear the meat was originally cooked in the 1800's and they let it fossilize before severing me it. You could have easily cut diamonds with it. It was ALMOST as bad as chick fila sauce but not as bad 2/10. Don't let my terrible reviews of the carnitas and chicharone stop you from coming in the other food was good, probably one of the best tacos you can get in Brea. I just don't want you to suffer through those two tacos like I did. My suggestion to order: a shit ton of chicken and carne asada tacos. Place is a 7.5/10 read more
