Extremely charming tiki bar. It's the perfect blend of beautifully sophisticated and campy fun, which is pretty hard to pull off, but they do it with style. It's the kind of place you'd feel comfortable in no matter what you're wearing - fancy dress or farm overalls. No one judges, and everyone is welcomed with a smile. You go for the drinks and atmosphere, but the food and service are also top-notch. Our server Heather was delightful and on point, and the bartender made fantastic cocktails. Dead Man's Grog was probably my favorite out of the four I tried (thanks to having a partner there for sharing - did not drink all myself) but each one was uniquely delicious. If memory serves they generally ranged between $10-15 each which is pretty average for cocktails these days and actually on the low end for fancy tiki bar cocktails. My husband and I came to Astoria the first week of August to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Since our family just moved from Hawaii we HAD to pop into the local Tiki Bar and I'm so happy we did! We were in town just for two nights but we made sure to stop by this bar several times! The bar design: This place is gorgeously decorated. It's a bit on the darker side (which is expected for a tiki bar), so the ambiance is lovely with the candles at the tables. Every so often there is a "storm" that happens inside with "lightning." I've included a video of this in my review. The owners managed to decorate this place so well it feels as though it's a bar that's been there for years. Everything was done beautifully. We have been to many tiki bars and sometimes they can feel very cheesy and a bit kitsch, this bar doesn't look like that at all. Drinks: The drink menu was fabulous, I wish I could have tried everything! Different drinks come in different tiki mugs and glasses which is so fun. The first time we came by I had the purple orchid which was delicious. It was light and sweet but not too sweet. My husband got both the Mai Tai and the Mai Tai '85. Having lived in Hawaii, he tends to be a bit of a Mai Tai snob. He said both were solid Mai Tai's. He likes traditional Mai Tai's, so he preferred the "Mai Tai". The '85 has grenadine, which traditional Mai Tai's don't normally have. That is all just a personal preference! The next time we came in we got a Dead Man's Grog (and another drink that I included in the photos but I can't remember which one it was). It wasn't too sweet or heavy, just make sure to give it a stir before drinking. The third and final time we came in I had several drinks, all were delicious but the one that stands out most for me was the volcano because they literally light it on fire. A drink and a show! I included a video of it for your viewing pleasure. Every single drink in this bar we were happy with. They were complexed and didn't taste cheap or overly syrupy. Food: The only thing we ordered were the Pork Sliders. The first time we ordered them we made the mistake of sharing them. YOU DON'T WANT TO SHARE THESE! Having lived in Hawaii for 8 years I've eaten a lot of pig... these were the absolute best pork sliders I have ever eaten. I was so upset I had to share with my husband that I made sure to order my own the next time we came in. Merchandise: The bar has the coolest set of tiki mugs and many are available for purchase! The also have stickers, super unique stir sticks, and shirts. We stopped by the their tiki mug store next door in the daytime to purchase a couple tiki mugs, but we also purchased a mug directly from the bar. The owners have a history with tiki mugs that is very interesting, if you stop in make sure to ask about their backstory! The People: Every single waiter/waitress that I spoke to at this bar was SO friendly and served us quickly. They were also a great resource for recommendations! I also had the absolute pleasure of getting to speak with the owner and bar tender, Annie. I was already incredibly impressed with the establishment but Annie was the real cherry on top. I wish we lived closer because I swear her and I would be friends. Anyways, this bar is her pride and joy. She has absolutely put her heart and soul into it and it's obvious that's the case. If you are ever in the area, please stop by Dead Man's Isle! You won't regret it. read more

Came here last night with my husband, we made a reservation for 4 people at 5 pm. Came in right at 5 and were sat upstairs immediately, but at a very awkward 4 top, it was 2 small 2 tops pushed together over looking the bar, so two people sitting beside each other and 2 across. Luckily, our other couple had to cancel as we were ordering drinks, so my husband and I sat beside each other over looking the bar. Our waitress was great, so kinda and hospitable, we order drinking, they are all so festive and tasty, we had 2 more rounds after of other specialty drinks on the menu. We got our first round and the hostess came up and asked if she could split our table since our friends couldn't make it, we obliged, moved around the. The hostess asked if we had put in food yet, it felt rather rushed, there was a big party they were setting up for by us and maybe even with our reservation they were trying to get us out. Not sure. My hubs and I order the masubi, it was great, the crispy tofu salad was delightful, and the pork sliders were tasty. The atmosphere was quaint and we enjoyed the the pirate cove theme, it was different then anything else in Astoria. Been keeping an eye on this place, waiting for them to open and it was worth the wait. Visited on a Thursday right when they opened. They have a happy hour the first hour they open. They have many of the classics and some renditions of your favorite tiki style drinks. On the sweeter side but we'll made. Food options "You had me at Musubi." Some tasty appetizers and interesting plates. Scallion Pancakes? They were good. I think since we arrived early on a Thursday it was not busy and service was nice and helpful. And patient. With so many good looking options i can be indecisive. The ambiance was perfect for a cold cloudy day. A true pirates lair. With many nautical decorations and a thunderstorm from time to time. Keep your eye out for One eyed Willy. Exotica music in the background. So many things to discover. They even have a tiki mug Vending Machine. This is definitely a must check out place. I LOVE Dead Mans Isle!! Tiki drinks are delicious! Food is great, but I love the kimchi, pork sliders, and tuna tataki was fantastic. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because the drinks are very slow. I recognize it's a fully crafted cocktail, handmade, yes, but as a former bartender I know that it shouldn't take 20 min to make a drink. They get faster and faster the more we go, so maybe it's just a "new" issue but there's a limit to people's patience regarding craft cocktails--about a 10 min window is gracious enough. read more

Wife mentioned a co-worker said this was a cool place so we decided to visit after work on Saturday 07/27/2024. We live in Astoria but hadn't visited this place together. Arrived at approximately 7:45-8:00 pm. Sign inside said please wait to be seated. We were promptly greeted and asked where we would like to sit. We choose a couple seats at the end of the bar. We were escorted to the bar to our seats and provided with menu's, she even explained that they are difficult to read in the lighting and showed us how to put a napkin under the menu to make reading easier. We were served water within a minute. That was the last time anyone spoke to us. No one , and there were three women serving behind the bar, asked if we were ready to order, if we had questions, if it was our first visit, nothing. All three women were not busy. One woman was actually doing nothing. We "patiently" waited at least 15 minutes after setting our menus down on the bar expecting someone to take our order or speak to us. No one did so I told my wife I'm done, let's go and we left. Not a good experience at all is the best I can say. read more

This is a borderline perfect tiki bar. The ambiance right off the coast just adds to the fact that you feel like you walked into an old pirates watering hole. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and will help you find a drink off of their stellar menu. Their menu is separated in two between "classic" tiki drinks and the staff's own curations. The pours are generous without being imbalanced and the mixers are sweet and fruity without tasting artificial. Went with my girlfriend while vacationing in Long Beach Washington. Really neat place decorated well . Cocktails were delicious , we had a Mutant Skull , Isle of the Dodo and a Captain's Blender . They were all good and every drink comes in it's own different style of glass . The menu is small but the food was outstanding, the LocoMoco had curry which made it the best I've had . The drinks were very sweet but still good. Every drink on the menu seemed like it was rum with some kind of fruit juice. The only food we had was the lumpia which was basically a teriyaki flavored veggie roll. It was very sweet and served with a sweet soy sauce. Definitely not lumpia. It should be marketed as a veggie eggroll. The decor and ambience were amazing. If this place was rated on decor and marketing, it would be 5 star. The service was good but the drinks arrived after our food. The menu lacked protein choices...only pork or tofu added to high starch dishes. Not a stitch of seafood on the menu for our visit which is expected at a coastal restaurant highlighting a sea theme. Overall opinion.. too much thought on decor and marketing items , not enough thought on food and drink. read more

Nice decor. Interesting drink menu but super complex and the bartenders required menu cards and possibly a degree in chemistry. The place was half full with three bartenders and were unable to greet customers as were too involved with mixing. We ordered a vodka and tonic and a mai tai. The mai tai came first and was 5 to 7 minutes later before vodka and tonic showed up. Food menu was asian fusion but names were confusing especially if you know Asian food. After approximately 40 minutes, food had not arrived, drinks were empty with no refills offered and party that arrived well after us received their food order before a hint that ours might be on the way. I cancelled food order and asked for bill. They offered to comp meal, but i declined and went to the american legion. Drinks and dinner were fair priced and served quickly at the Legion. Wasn't fancy, but friendly and attentive bartender and we were able to get to Pink Martini in time. Two drinks at Deadman's were $18. Two stroganoff dinners, two vodka and tonics and a long Island ice tea was $24. Plus legion has beer and wine. Dead man's, no beer or wine. I get it. Cocktail bar. But at least offer me a beer while I wait. And a mai tai is usually understood to have a hint of red to it. read more
