I wish there was a rating between 'A-OK' and 'Meh', but since it really wasn't 'A-OK' to me, I'll have to go with 'Meh.' The pizza here is more frustrating than anything else. It has potential as the crust has a nice texture as it is semi-flaky and crisp, it's cooked well and not rushed out of the oven too soon, BUT, it has no flavor whatsoever. This drags the taste of the whole pizza down. There is very little to no salt in the dough and it tastes like it. The toppings are very generous, actually a little too generous and this unfortunately is probably to make up for the bland crust, which is impossible to do. My other major complaint is their large pizza is not very large at all. In fact, it's probably what most pizza joints sell as their small size. Deano's has been around a long time and I think they just take their pizza for granted because people keep coming in. It's time for the owners (who I hope read this) to go back and honestly re-evaluate. The most basic thing they could do is to season the dough properly with salt. You just cannot make a good pizza with a bland crust. Lafayette is a world-class food town and deserves to have at least one good pizzeria. So far I haven't found one. We shouldn't have to live with "Well, it's good pizza for Lafayette." UPDATE 4/13: I'm not sure if they altered their dough recipe or we just hit an unusually good night, but the crust actually tasted more savory this time and properly salted. Maybe all the negative comments about the blandness of their crust helped, but it did improve the taste of the pizza overall. Giving them one more star. read more

We went for the Pizza, declared it the best we have had in Lafayette, and better than most anywhere. I always look for crust, and something unique in a pizza place. Deanos has both. The crust is great for crispy crust fans. Not wafer thin, but rather a nice thickness, flakey, bubbly, more like a cracker crust. It was nicely baked, with that brick oven char. The special pizzas are an interesting combination of local flavors, hot and spicy, good sausage, shrimp, even candied jalapenos on one, but the star really is the Marie LeVeaux. Blue point crab in a nice sauce, nothing like anything I have had, my wife would probably make the 1000 mile drive just for that. Also had the muffalatta pizza, very good, but with ham, salami and olive salad it had the potential to push the saltiness quotient, but came out OK. Did not try much else, but must mention the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. The dip itself was just OK, but serving it with sliced thin and cornmeal breaded fried eggplant...genius. Several other items to try on future trips, but will always have at least one pizza. read more

OK so the very first time I ate here with my husband I was abysmally disappointed, I ordered just a straight peperoni pizza, eh it was to greasy and not all that good. then I bunch of people from work decided to go there and I ordered a lunch special salad and a personal pizza this time I ordered a specialty pizza, I cant recall what it was called but it was thin crust with olive oil base with chicken mozzarella and green onions, MUCH better.. very good in fact, for thin crust.. thin crust has its own charm and I enjoy it yet its not my favorite. Id definitely go back but Id be Leary of ordering anything else besides the chicken pizza.. service was slow but I tend to find that in Lafayette if you go to any non chain establishment that you find that very Cajun french layed back environment.. where people do not get in a rush and they take their time. read more

Having grown up eating some of the best pizza on this side of the Atlantic, my hopes were not too high about pizza in Louisiana; sadly, I was still disappointed. The service was great, but the food left something to be desired. The house special vinaigrette was tasty, unfortunately not much followed suit. Nothing on our pie was very flavorful, including the negligible amount of tomato sauce. The pizza arrived with meat all over it though we requested only half, forcing me (a vegetarian) to eat sausage-flavored artichoke hearts- had it not taken so long to come out of the kitchen leaving us ravenous we would have sent it back. Thanks to our waitress for being great & saving the meal. I think I will just eat Cajun food next time I'm in Lafayette. read more

I used to love Deanos when I lived in Louisiana. But now I find it to be way too heavy for my tastes. They do pile on crazy amounts of toppings..and all of their pizzas are unique, especially with the use of crawfish. But I now find that even a simple margherita pizza out here in San Francisco tastes a lot better than Deanos. Their crust is too thick and their tomato sauce isn't really appetizing. I think, however, that it's my palate that's changed and not the quality of their pizza. So I'm retro-rating them a 4. read more

It is my favorite pizza in Lafayette but I just cannot stand to eat in but only take out. Too many people. Nice selection of toppings and from what I remember the price is pretty decent. Then again I have living in a city right now where a 10 inch pizza that taste like garbage and has hair in it cost 25 bucks. So maybe my standards are lowered. read more

This is certainly an ok place to have pizza and their crust is really good but I was disappointed in what seemed like pre purchased fried ravioli. All in all I wouldn't discourage you from going here , but in my opinion there are better pizzas in Laffayette. On a side note this is one of my brothers favorite spots and he's a good judge of food in my opinion. read more

I gave it four stars because the food is always consistent and the prices are good. We went at least 1-2 times a week. The price is definitely worth it and the cheese they use is great. Great experience all the way around! Friendly greeting upon walking in, seated immediately, server was at our table within a minute to take drink order and offer help or suggestions about the menu. Started with the Fried Ravioli which was freshly fried, hot and crispy. The marinara dipping was very tasty and not acidic. Daughter went with just a simple cheese pizza which was delicious and they even cut into 8 child size pieces! Wife and I order a 10" half Marie Laveaux and half Cajun Canielle and a 10" mushroom and onion - both were absolutely delicious! Pizza was hot and fresh soon as they were out of the oven they were on our table. Our server was on top of his game, keeping our drinks filled and very attentive to our needs. The menu has many items other than just pizza and many different options if you want pizza. You can customize your own pizza or choose from many specialty ones - and best of all you can split your pizza into 1/4's and try 4 different specialty pizzas on one pie! I liked the unique pizza toppings & crispy crust on the 8" whole wheat Marie LaVeaux pizza I ordered. It somehow didn't overly impress me though. Pretty good lasagna, good meatball subs, and they'll get you in and out fast if you tell them you're in a hurry. Prices are reasonable and the servers are mostly students eager to please...those are the pluses. Unfortunately, because it's a good place to bring little ones, it can be noisy and the floor is often littered with food that has been dropped and ignored. If you eat "pieces" of pizza you might like it...if you eat "slices", try something else. read more

I was impressed that they let us get a pizza...half trex and the other half chicken fresco...and both was really good and the crust was crispy. I don't know if anything else they have is good, because I've been ordering the same thing since the late sixties: a pepperoni/Canadian bacon pizza. The Canadian bacon is indescribable. I don't like Canadian bacon anywhere but at Deano's. I've been going here since it was a college beer hangout in the late sixties. Now it's upscaled, but the pizza is still great. I no longer live in Lafayette, but when I visit, a friend and I usually go to Deano's for our traditional pepperoni/Canadian bacon pizza. I haven't even mentioned the sauce. It's unlike any sauce you'll ever sample anywhere--and tops. read more

Deano's on Bertrand Drive is the best place to get pizza in Lafayette. I don't know how many times I've been to this place but they have delicious pizza and salads. I had the famous Cajun Canaille pizza with the white sauce (not the red) and it was cooked perfectly. It's a very simple pizza: shrimp, Louisiana smoked sausage, and jalapenos. That's it. I also tried a Canebrake beer which I haven't had and it was pretty good as well. Great food, service, and beer is all you need. read more

This place ain't what it used to be. I have been eating here for years and have always been a devoted fan. The last few times the pizza has not been cooked enough for me. I like my pizza more on the crispy side. Tonight my T-Rex was soggy and not good at all. I must say the service was good and usually is. The mens rest room was disgusting. It was 5:30 pm and not crowded and the mens room was awful. It stunk and the walls need cleaning bad. I sure hope the kitchen is not that nasty. My major complaint is their large pizza is not very large at all. In fact, Dean-O's large shrimp pizza special size is 10" diameter cost is $19.20...overpriced. At the Pizza Village's large shrimp pizza special size is 13" diameter cost is $17.95 and giant shrimp pizza special size is 16" diameter cost is $22.50. The crawfish nachos are to die for! Prices are a little high for a pizzeria but the food is worth it! They have several specialty pizzas like Marie Laveaux and the T Rex or you can create your own from a vast array of toppings. My favorite creation is grilled chicken, pineapple and candied jalapenos. I know a lot of people rave about this place, but after a few visits to both locations I felt compelled to give my opinion. The service has always been pretty good, but the food is either "meh" or just plain awful. My friends and I always get two pizzas, half and half on both, and one guy in the group will sometimes get a half and half for himself (he likes to take home leftovers, lol) So, in total we have between 4 and 6 different kinds of pizza that we all try. I've never liked a single one. To me a successful pizza has a really good crust and a good sauce and cheese base. While I like the crispy texture of their crusts, they are all bland as hell. It's just not the buttery, flakey, crispy crust that I expect a good pizza to have. I've also noticed that their pizzas are never served hot, always lukewarm. About the base...they are not all about that base (pun intended). I feel like they put a couple of teaspoons of sauce and spread it as thinly as possible and then put a light sprinkling of cheese. Then there's the toppings. I feel like the only reason this place is popular is because of all the crazy topping combinations and names given to the pizzas. However, they do not do a good job at pairing the toppings together. They just throw whatever the f*** onto the pizza. You come out with some really weird tasting pizza. Now that I think about it, the only successful location is the original one on Bertrand. I think almost all of its repeat customers live in that immediate area. The location on the south side on Kaliste Saloom is pretty dead. I think on the south side of town you have a greater percentage of people from outside Acadiana and they are clearly not having it...Deano's pizza that is. Deano's is exactly like Alesi's, Judice Inn, and Don's dowtown...all are really old joints and all have pretty terrible food. Lafayette is full of restaurants and full of flavor, but apparently we're more about keeping traditions alive. If you are looking for really good pizza that is not from your typical Pizza Hut, Domino's, etc. I would suggest trying Rotolo's. I also love JJ's in Broussard. read more

Sad to see a Lafayette landmark going down. My friends and I have been going to DeanO's for years. Usually great food, nice atmosphere, and top-notch service. Not so for this week at Bertrand location. We asked for our cold crawfish nachos to be reheated! The waitress said ok then brought back the microwaved plate without fixing it up. Looked like a glob of mess. Pizza was ok. Sandwich ok but not the high quality expected. Fries sat out before delivered. The au jus sauce for my sandwich was cold. Our waitress was busy with other customers so I decided to go up front myself. Waited quite a long time. Everyone simply ignored me standing there. Finally, a nice young man helped me out. -He asked the takeout attendant who was on the phone what was i doing there and she told him she didn't know- My au jus was microwaved and left on the order pickup. When a waitress finally picked it up she walked up to another and said "what do I do with this." I said thank you and took it from her. As I was walking back to my seat, I looked at my boyfriend and told him we needed to get out of there. Never have we been disappointed with DeanO's. If this would have been our first visit, we would NOT be back. We will stick to DeanO's Southside. read more

My hubby has taken me here a handful of times, the most memorable and enjoyable was a few years ago when we arrived in town to visit family. I was just coming down with the H1N1 flu (I didn't know it until later), was dizzy and had a fever. Pizza didn't sound good at the time, but I was with family and they wanted to go, so I didn't argue. Well, it was SO good!! We'd arrived just at the right time of the year to experience the crawfish pizza and I LOVED it! We live out of state now, but we've been to Deano's a few times since and cannot catch them when they're using crawfish for the pizzas, even during crawfish season. My husband's long-time favorite is the Zuschlag's Special and our kids got the Hawaii Five-O, which I tried and found to be really good. The ZS flavor profile was good but a little too basic for me. The HF-O was intriguing, especially with the candied jalapeño! What will always stick in my mind, however, is that CRAWFISH PIZZA ... such a good flavor! I think that whatever else I get at Deano's besides that pizza will always pale in comparison for me. GOSH ... when IS crawfish pizza time at Deano's? Anybody know??? I couldn't get an answer to that question when I asked the last time we were there and so I'm not sure when to go get it! read more
