Unassuming little breakfast/lunch spot near the intersection of Northlake and Prosperity Farms, located in the plaza with the used books and comics store. I honestly can't believe in all the years I've driven past this plaza that I haven't stopped in before. The restaurant is small and features counter seating (stools) along one side and booths to accommodate up to 4 people along the opposite wall. We got a booth without a wait around 930am on a weekday and had drinks and good within about 10 minutes, maybe less. The service was very fast. Overall, I'd say they've got a "classic" dinner type breakfast menu. I peeked at the lunch menu, which includes North Carolina style BBQ which I'd like to come back and try another day. All in all, I was pleased with the food I ordered (two eggs with hash browns, smoked sausage, and toast) and the service was speedy. Solid 4 star breakfast. read more

The food is good but on our second visit we ordered our lunch and noticed I kept getting drips splashing on me and worst of all I finally realized it had been dripping in my food for several minutes. I looked up and it was a rusty dirty air conditioner vent that had been dropping nasty water on my food. I mentioned it to one of the waitresses and her response was "yah, they're supposed to come fix it this afternoon and walked off. Sooooo okay? Would you want nasty water dripping down on your $17.00 lunch? I then told another server that perhaps she might want to rope the booth off so another patron wouldn't ruin their lunch either. Same response, "yah, we are getting it fixed later". Unfortunately we thought we discovered a cute little hide away breakfast place but I still can't believe how uncaring they were. I wonder if they would want water from a rusty dirty vent dropping their food. Won't be back or refer my friends. As a business owner who knows how much business they might lose by not simply even saying , let's move you to another seat, and I'll get you a fresh plate. This was the 1st time visiting this place. It's small, very busy and clearly a favorite place for locals. The staff was very friendly and got us 2 seats at the counter asap. I was thrilled that they offered catfish on the menu and we both ordered it with eggs. We made it very clear that my wife has GI issues and can't have the fish fried and they said they offer the fillets grilled as well which was great. The food arrived pretty quick but here's my 1st ding: her fish arrived fried as did mine. They took hers back to remake it but that left her eating the rest of her breakfast without the fish... not a huge deal: things happen but staff should have been more careful ... here's my main gripe: at the counter we were sitting directly under an a/c vent and it was pouring out cold air directly down on us. Now, if you follow my reviews, I 1st experienced this up in NYC at Joe's Pizza I think it was in the Village in the middle of winter. This I simply cannot abide! Small place, busy, they need to flip tables quickly. This "trick" is apparently a way restaurants use to get people to quickly finish their food before it gets cold so they can flip the tables. By the time my wife's reorder of fish came out, my eggs were "dead cold" as my wife put it pertaining to her eggs and grits. I've got a thing about my hot food food being hot and this REALLY gets under my skin. I spent the rest of the meal looking around noticing how there almost would not be any location where you wouldn't be under a vent or v. near 1... Look: I've been in LOTS of places where there's 1or 2 a/c vents to service the entire space. Why does this small space need like 10 of them?! We really liked this place. First off, not a warm and fuzzy type of place. Our waitress was cold and kind of rude. Her service was effecient and food came out fast and fresh. The prices and portions are outstanding. Less than 40.00 with 20% tip for a 3 egg omelet, chocolate chip pancakes that were hanging over the plate and loaded with chocolate chips, french toast meal with bacon sausage and eggs, and a waffle meal with bacon, sausage and eggs. New owners and they've destroyed the atmosphere, took down all the art, pictures! ( One was painted by a WWII veteran, painted the walls ( looks like a nursing home) and raised the prices, (a lot) after Donna the previous owner had done twice; understandably.. Nice people and good service. However they left the door open it it was hot in the place even with the air conditioning running, I should've shut the doors. My eggs were perfect over medium but the corned beef hash but I ordered to be crispy was burnt and tasted burnt, but that's on me because I did order it to be crispy. The hashbrowns however were awful because they tasted like they'd been fried in rancid oil. They took them off my bill and they were very nice about it even though I told them they didn't have to do that that wasn't why I told them about the off tasting hashbrowns, but they did anyway. Even my aunt said that hashbrowns tasted horrible, so I know it's not just me. No one tells you you don't know and you can't fix it so that's why I told them and that's why I'm hoping that they will fix it. We will go again. Hopefully they'll get up to five stars. read more

LOVE this place for breakfast; eggs made just the way I like them,, huge delicious pancakes that tastes homemade. Lunch was great as well! I've only visited Debra's a couple of times because it's not close to home, but they serve the best breakfast in town, hands-down. The menu is huge and has a tremendous selection of items. Their fried catfish is spectacular and goes great with their hash browns, eggs and bacon. The only complaint is that the place is very cramped and it's booths and counter seats are perfect for small framed folks. A big guy like myself has to wedge himself in to eat. That aside, the wedging is worth it because the food, service and overall experience is worth driving a half an hour across town for an amazing meal. read more

Born and raised in NC and now living in Florida it was hard to find Bbq that was to my liking. Finally a place where it tastes like NC

When you enter Debra's you're greeted by no one. Left to stand there wondering if you can sit down or wait outside while people leaving shuffle by you. One you sit down you're senses kick in and a faith smell of mold/ mildew are unquestionable. Mostly likely the drop ceiling or AC system which are decorated by brown water spots and thick layers of dust over the AC grate. Floors of the Kitchen have trash and dirt in places that are not well travelled all visible from the counter seating. DONT go into the bathroom, unless you want some sort of fresh eating virus. Honestly I've traveled the world and eaten out of shacks on the side of a dirt road and in unregulated 3rd world country and still felt cleaner than this s**t hole. Most of the staff is very nice but our wader was a jack***. There's too many nice little places to eat at this place. Go somewhere else. read more

Typical greasy spoon diner. No healthy options. Ordered the Wednesday morning special, which consists of 2 eggs, french toast, or bacon. Started eating half way through my eggs and found Something black what looked to be a half of a fly. I couldn't determine what it was and neither could the waitress...she said it was something from the frying pan...whatever it was it shouldn't be anything dark looking in my eggs. I am not understanding the great reviews of this diner. The appearance of the restaurant aside, the breakfast I was served was greasy and flavorless. The bacon was floating in a pool of grease on my plate and the hash browns and scrambled eggs where lacking. There was so much butter on my English muffin, I had to politely spit it out. Perhaps the lunch is better. It looks like a friendly family owned restaurant and judging from the previous positive reviews, they must have a strong local following. Hoped for some healthy options but none to be found. Settled for the breakfast bowl which was mainly potatoes. My wife had the pancake which was large but not fluffy although tasty. Zero stars. DIRTIEST place I have ever eaten. Had the cornbeef hash on the recommendation of the server. It was terrible. Not enough hot sauce could help me choke it down. It tasted like the can it came in had been open for a week and left that metallic taste you get from licking the tail pipe of a 49 Cadillac. The hash browns were burnt and left me tasting the entire weeks worth of food they had prepared because the griddle had not been cleaned. Worst breakfast experience ever. Avoid this place unless you want to get a tetanus shot afterwards. read more

I'd passed this place a couple of times and though it looked interesting -- then we made the mistake of coming here for breakfast, and it was one of the most disgusting experiences I've ever had. On a Saturday morning, this place was packed - which isn't hard, given that there are perhaps eight tables and a counter. No, they don't keep any kind of a wait list, so you basically have to stand there - and there is actually no space where you can stand other than outside on the sidewalk - and fight for your place in line. How hard would it be to keep a list and call people when there's space? Too much work for Debra's. Tired of the wait, we sat at the counter - unfortunately, in plain view of the kitchen and the tiny service window where dishes are placed before they are served. What we saw turned our stomachs. The health department cannot really be inspecting this place. There is a chaotic, inefficient system for taking, placing, and retrieving orders, which means that plates pile up in the service window. They LITERALLY pile up, one on top of the other, until a waiter takes them to a table. This means that another plate, which was first put down on one of the fairly filthy counters inside the kitchen, has been sitting ON TOP OF your food before it gets to you. While we were there, someone made a mistake on a to-go order, which was returned and left behind the counter. The waitresses were taking turns eating the food - WITH THEIR FINGERS - before going back to touching other people's plates and silverware, clearing tables, etc. "Gross" is too mild a word. Despite the small size of the place and the limited number of diners, the wait staff and kitchen seemed completely overwhelmed (one reason for this is that they are also fielding dozens of take-out orders - putting an end to that alone would improve things). The kitchen is tiny. Everyone is using his/her bare hands to touch everything, and there doesn't seem to be an effort made to wash up. Our order was "lost" (that is, the waitress forgot to put it in) and, when she came to tell us about it, she didn't apologize. Instead, she said, "Oh, you should have said something when your food didn't come." The young kids working behind the counter, who are supposed to be bussing dishes, refilling coffee, bringing condiments, etc., seem dazed and barely conscious. Good luck getting a refill. Good luck getting them to understand, when you say, "Please leave room for cream," that they shouldn't fill the coffee cup to the brim - even the second time. (The kid who served us just stared at me as though I'd spoken in Chinese.) Good luck getting any kind of service at all after your food comes. The eggs benedict was smothered in a congealed, bland, bright orange sauce that we watched the waitress slop out of an open container that had been sitting behind the counter in a service area that serves both for plating - and as a storage place for dirty dishes before someone (rarely) takes them back into the kitchen to be washed. A side of hash browns never materialized. The pancake was decent and large, but we watched it being cooked on a griddle that was never, the whole time we were there, scraped even once. Debra's wants to give you the idea that it's an old-fashioned, down-homey diner. That may have been the idea once upon a time, but it has turned into a place that is badly run, provides bad service, and serves food that is, to say the least, suspicious. They need to close, revamp the entire operation, and reopen with a new commitment to hygiene and to customer service. Until it does, Debra's doesn't deserve your money. read more
