I really enjoyed the level of service and attentiveness that Osaka delivered. Their special dragon roll was pack with fresh tuna sushi on top and crispy delicate prawn in the middle. Bento box was unique with a green soba noodle filled with tons of veggies. I wish there was a bit less sauce but other than that it was overall quite good. My favourite main of the meal was the tonkatsu which was abundant and perfectly crispy. Food fresh and very tasty but the service totally lacking. I am allergic to seeds, nuts and asked if they could make dish without and yes they could. When I received my dish lots of sesame seeds on top. There were four of us and first two came out and we waited maybe 3 or so minutes for our order. I noticed mine had seeds and told waitress and she just exchanged dishes which my friend had started eating. Two different waitresses. Also we had to ask for tea 2 different times and water never came so I got up and got my own. Very concerned about people with allergies. read more

Osaka Sushi is a wonderful little gem in the heart of Deep Cove, North Vancouver. Yes it's a little bit more expensive but that's because you're right across the street from a beautiful view of harbor mountains and ocean. I tried the dragon roll which was good, but I think they put a bit too much crunchy crumble stuff on it. The texture however with nice and it was full of flavor. I ordered the yam roll with avocado. The yam is deep-fried and is placed on top of the rice. Although it was very tasty, I didn't like how the yam fell off of the roll. I think they could do a better job of making it stick together. Great place for Sushi and Sashimi! Not many sushi places serves Uni(sea urchin eggs). This place serves fresh uni, and very generous about the portion. I also found that they serve Kirin's frozen beer in summer, which is a real treat! Yakidori with their own Teriyaki sauce was also great! read more

Very Mediocre. Deep Cove is a favourite location to relax of mine, and my GF had a hankering for Sushi so we went to try this place. After being seated at a table, we then waited about 20+ minutes for someone to finally take our order. The food was very lackluster. I had my usual staple, Chicken Teriyaki Don, and it consisted of this very small shredded-type of chicken served in a very small portion. The meal consisted of 75% bean sprouts, a tiny bit of rice, and some dry chicken with barely any sauce on it. The place was not well ventilated at all, and there were flies darting around here and there. It doesn't seem like a clean place. If you want bad service, and crappy food, feel free to visit this place. I will definitely not be returning here. I suggest going to the fish & chips place down the street instead, MUCH better food/service there. read more

4/30 day challenge Upon arriving in Deep Cove, my visting-from-out-of-town guest and I were starving and in search of good sushi. There aren't a ton of restaurants to choose from right in Deep Cove, and I think this is the only sushi place within a reasonable walking distance of the harbour, so we decided to try it. Luckily for us it was a gorgeous late summer day so we were able to enjoy the patio and a spectacular view of Deep Cove. I especially enjoyed this because I can't think of any other sushi restaurants that have a patio (except for one in Tofino). If the weather is nice but I want sushi, I normally feel like I have to choose between satisfying my sushi craving or enjoying the sun. The sushi itself? A tad more expensive than average and the menu lacked a decent maki combo that worked for me, but the rolls that I ordered a la carte were very good. Our server was very nice and brought us extra ginger and water no problem. Overall the sushi was very good and, like other restaurants in Deep Cove, part of what you're paying for (versus if the exact same restaurant was in Kits or downtown) is the Deep Cove atmosphere/view. But on such a beautiful day, I didn't mind at all. read more

Deanna L could not stop craving sashimi ever since her first bite arriving in Vancouver, and we could not have been happier with this surprise find. We had just finished the morning kayaking, and debating whether we could tolerate the commute over either bridge for our sushi fix. Thankfully, we found this little gem just up the street, and glad we never made it back across Lion's Gate or Second Narrows! The Toro sashimi was by far some of the freshest and most delicious we had during our trip, so much so that we had a second order! The Hamachi was also meaty and lush, full of flavour and substance. Although far from traditional, the "Dragon's Pillow" was a pleasant surprise. Not a sushi preparation but more so a Japanese tapa, perhaps; but the fresh crab, chopped scallop, masago, unagi, and tobiko stacked on top of a piece of sweet potato tempura was a pleasant bite, although each element was so fresh and tasty that I know that I would have enjoyed each on its own just as much. read more

I stayed in Vancouver for a week and lodged with a family on the NE end of town. This place was not too far from that, and I enjoyed it enough that I came back a couple times. There was one occasion where they didn't have items on the menu, but in large part I got great service, generous portions that stuffed me more than you'd expect from sushi and the quality of the sushi was consistently strong. It also helps that they're a block from the Deep Cove shore, which makes for a pleasant walk along the water. If it wasn't far from the center of town I'd probably come back a few more times the next time I visit. read more

Overpriced, sub-par sushi. Nigiri was humongous in an unappetizing way. I find that a sushi joint's saba is a good indication of overall quality and at Osaka, it was just extremely fishy and tough. Tried their brown rice sushi and it was hard, dry, and unpleasant. I suggest not offering it at all. For the doubters, good brown rice sushi does exist...just not here. read more

We avoided Osaka Sushi for a while, as quality in Deep Cove is pretty iffy at most restaurants, but after a hike along the Baden Powell trail to the rock, we wanted a refreshing dinner and a cold drink. Talking food: it's good, though not spectacular. We had the Osaka Combo, which had a few pieces of nigiri and two rolls. The nigiri portions were seriously large (too large?) but tasted fresh. We also went with the spicy tuna sashimi, which tipped us off to the fact that this is yet another Korean sushi restaurant - the taste of gochu jang is unmistakeable. That's not necessarily a bad thing (see Bella Sushi in Lonsdale, for example) but worth noting. One more food tip: go for the desert gelato. It's made by Mario's, and anyone who has visited Mario's in False Creek will know that it's deeelicious. Decor is modern and clean, though lacks much in the way of personality. The gas fireplace is a nice touch, but the huge TV above grabs all the attention - as it's generally showing sports, that sets the tone for the place. This could be a bonus or a drawback, depending on what you're looking for. Prices are fair, and service is casual and friendly. Three stars means it won't be in my dreams (that's for Honey's donuts), but we'll likely be back! read more

Hands down the worst Japanese food I've ever had. We had a Don and the Teriyaki and both were sad. The Don was watery, no glass noodles, no sauted onions, a few slices of cabbage, mostly rice, just tasted like mirin and salty water. The teriyaki wasn't even hot, the gyoza not fully cooked re-cooked---packaged stuff for sure. Not sure about the sushi and will never know, no thanks. Servers were very nice though. read more

Never expected food at sightseeing places to be any good. But this one was very good indeed. The rolls were nice. The Tuna don is really worth it. Tons of sashi on it. Visited Deep Cove for the first time today and we decided to have a sushi dinner after kayaking. We sat on the patio which was lovely, and quiet. Service was great, everyone had a smile on their face and was super happy to see us. The yam salad roll was unbelievable. Tempura was really tasty. Everything was fresh and came out very quick. The spicy dynamite roll was good but I was expecting something more than just hot sauce on a dynamite roll. A little pricey for sushi in Vancouver, but I suppose that's to be expected with the touristy nature of Deep Cove. All in all, I would go back and recommend it! read more

A gem in the deep cove area. We came here for a simple Sunday night dinner and we were seated next to the fireplace which gave off a very pleasant warmth. I ordered the appetizer sashimi and a chopped scallop roll. The sashimi came with 3 tuna and 3 sockeye salmon pieces for $9.95. I had expected them to be small pieces but I was wrong - they were very generous pieces! The salmon pieces were cut a little smaller so there were 4 pieces instead of the advertised 3. They tasted fresh and I was pleased. The chopped scallop roll was awesome as well. It costs a little more than other places at $5.50 a roll, but I think it's worth it. Osaka excels at their presentation and the end pieces of the scallop were so pretty with pea shoots coming out of them. They tasted fresh and they were light with the mayo which is exactly how I like it, not to mention the amount of scallop was very generous as well. My boyfriend ordered the veggie sunomono which again, looked beautiful. He also ordered the chicken yakisoba which I had a bite of and it was very flavourful. He enjoyed both his dishes as well. Although this place is Korean owned, it tastes pretty good. And the service is very good. All the staff from the servers to all the chefs behind the counter greet you as you walk in and again as you leave. You definitely feel welcomed and it makes for a very pleasant atmosphere and dining experience. read more

My family and I eat here regularly and we are never disappointed. Everything is delicious and the fish is really of superb quality. Service is always quick and friendly and the chefs really look like they know what they are doing. They've got a nice mix of the usual Japanese dishes and some kind of speciality things that I miss when I go to other sushi places. It's kinda pricey but you really get what you pay for. The one time they messed up our take out order (they forgot an item that we paid for) they apologize profusely and offered us a free one next time. So the next time we called to order a take out they recognized our name offered us the free one before I'd even remembered it! That's some diligent service. Definitely recommend in you're in the Deep Cove area. read more

But I spoke to 2 different people to ask where my order was and they kept saying "it is coming". I was supposed to pick it up at 6:30. I arrived at 6:25. At 6:35 I politely asked how long. They said not long. But the first person must not have even asked! At 6:42 I asked another person. Same response. At 6:55 (25 minutes after it should have been ready) I went in and asked the cook. I have been to Deep Cove sushi a couple of times but was never impressed. The sushi rolls are quite small for the price. A yam tempura roll, chicken teriyaki roll, and a miso soup came to around $12. There are many other sushi places in North Van that cost less and are better quality. The service I received here has been poor. I was not offered any water or tea and had to wait awhile for the server to come around (so that I could ask for it). I also had to ask for a soy sauce dish after my food came. I had to ask to pay after my food was finished and the server just pointed at the cash register at the end of the restaurant and said "please pay over there"... no smile, no eye contact. Overall I would not recommend this place, especially since there are so many other (better) sushi restaurants in North Van! read more

Other than the TV, the place is lovely. Clean, pretty design. Counter, tables, and private rooms. Nice lighting. The first time we had various rolls -all wonderful. The next time we ordered the Dinner Box B. $19, lots of quantity and variety, and utterly fresh and delicious. Sitting at the counter/bar, I really enjoyed watching the chefs at work -they seemed so gentle, focused, and happy! I'm convinced their happiness shows up in the food. The servers were helpful -I needed to ask how to eat one item- but not overly friendly/gregarious, and I found that refreshing. I did consider taking one star off for the giant TV -I prefer a gentler, more mellow environment when I go for this level of dining, definitely not a massive visual of hockey. The sound is off, but unless taking a private room, there is no way to steer clear of seeing it. But, all its other awesomeness makes even the TV part worth it! read more

Very acceptable sushi spot. Decor is comfortable without being fussy and the place has a clean, bright feel to it, although we could have done without the tv screen projecting huge fish. Service was prompt and friendly and our dishes arrived in good time. The sushi was fresh and the tempura was crispy and light, udon soup was generous but could have had more in it.
