I've been to spot so many times, I think it's time to drop a review. I've tried to 3 different flavors of the cake with milk and by far rose has been my favorite. During the day from opening to about 5:30/6:00pm it's a good work spot and around dinner time to closing it becomes a bustling social spot. Drinks I've tried have been the iced delachai, delay mofawar, and rose latte. The iced delachai is a nice Milkie tea with spices. The delay mofawar was served as a warm coffee with milk and had a nice cardamom taste. Those two drinks taste simple with a nice twist of an aftertaste :) the rose latte is one of they're top sellers and taste great if you're not too spices in your drinks. The staff are very kind, patient, and welcoming. There's so many more things that I want to try at this spot! read more

Huge thank you to my wife for showing me this place! The second she showed me a clip of a video on this place, I knew immediately we had to go! Coming here brought me memories to the last time I had Yemeni coffee at Qahwah House in Dearborn, Michigan. My wife and I loved the interior decor of this coffee shop! From the amazing hand made paintings on the walls, to the traditional chair on the wall, to the food and drinks! Huge grand opening again today with lots of people in line and sitting down. We were so lucky to have gotten a table! We enjoyed a big pot of Adeni Chai and pouring the tea into traditional glass cups. This is the perfect beverage to have during long conversations with friends and a loved one. We also loved their Rose milk cake; this was almost like a tres leches cake where it was milky and soaked. The rose wasn't too strong which was excellent! Their pistachio baklava was good and had lots of bits of pistachio. My wife ordered their special iced Delah rose latte. I love the true presentation of this drink; the layers of bright pink on the bottom, coffee in the middle and milk foam on the top sprinkled with fresh rose pedals. I ordered a Yemeni latte at $6.50. I had it lightly sweeten because the cashier had asked, so I asked if it was normally sweetened. Cashier said yes, so I opted for lightly sweetened. Well, it was a tad too sweet and I'm unsure if I was able to fully taste the Yemeni flavor. It had a unique cardamom and spices. Just not my jam, so 3 stars. Cafe is actually more dimmer than I was expecting. It didn't feel relaxing, so good thing I grabbed the drink to go. Plus street parking was hard to find. My hubby had to circle around and illegally park at a fire hydrant while waiting for me. They had various Turkish treats and cakes, but they didn't look fresh. I was tempted to try the rose cake. I was so excited to try Delah Coffee for their cakes and cozy vibes! The entrance to this place is a little wonky, since the area currently has a lot of scaffolding. The coffees are pleasant, and I am not mad. I tried the iced yemeni latte and the delah rose latte. If you like floral drinks, I would recommend the delah rose latte. TL;DR: definitely check out this new cultural cafe! So glad a new coffee shop opened in this location. I haven't ever had Yemeni coffee or pastries and it was such a delightful experience, and great to try something new. When you first walk in you'll be drawn to the aroma and the bright display case of pastries, along with the beautiful/unique design of the cafe - love the art on the walls. It has a mix of table and bar stool seating and even a small couch/lounging area. They have a water station and seems like a great place to socialize or post up with a laptop. I tried what seems to be their most popular lattes - the Yemeni Latte ($6.75) and the Rose Delah Latte ($7.95), both automatically 16oz. and both were absolutely delicious! *The Yemeni Latte has warm cardamom and other spices; the staff recommend medium sweet, which I thought was perfect for that "treat yourself coffee" but not too sweet (and next time I may go lighter on sweetness if possible). * The Rose Delah Latte was subtly floral and I think edged as my favorite drink; easy to drink, great balance of coffee, and just the right amount of sweet. They definitely pack a caffeine punch too! Also had to try some pastries so had the pistachio baklava ($6.95) and the staff recommended the bee bites ($5.25) - described as cream cheese in the middle of bread and you drizzle honey on top. Both were pretty good! *The baklava didn't have too strong of a pistachio flavor to me but definitely flaky and sweet (almost more honey taste). *The bee bites were savory/sweet - the sesame seeds on top added a toasty flavor and overall the flavor of the bite was subtle; then the honey almost overpowered the bite. I think either was expecting more cream cheese filling or dough to balance it out. I'd love to try their milk cakes next time. My only suggestion here is unless you read other reviews beforehand, since I wasn't familiar with the desserts, it would be nice to have signs in the display case just to make it easier to learn what the desserts are or adding a description on the menu - though the staff was so kind and I'm sure they can/would help educate and make recommendations. A fantastic experience - highly recommend this coffee shop! We came here on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm, the day after their official grand opening, and the place was packed! Especially notable was the smell upon entering, you can smell the cardamom and ginger so well, it was such an enticing, warm, comforting smell. There were no seats available when we walked in but we were able to snag a table a few minutes later when a group left. I wouldn't expect to find a cafe this full this late into the day but Delah Coffee was! I ordered the Rose Delah Latte made vegan by substitution of oat milk and removal of honey. I specifically asked for decaf but since they freshly opened, they didn't have any, so I asked for 1 shot of espresso instead of 2 for less caffeine. Not only was the latte gorgeous, it was so delicious. Yemeni coffee is where it is at! The merging of the spices like cardamom and ginger into the coffee was such a unique experience and so well done. I absolutely loved my latte. I cannot wait to go back and try their other specialty Yemeni coffee and tea, some of which comes in cute cups and pots. I'm here for their unique offerings. It's not just your average cafe. The cafe interior is nice as well so you can enjoy vibes and ambience in addition to actually good beverages. The price point is definitely up there for their specialty lattes. Unfortunately this is one of those places where you have to pay more for plant based milk, so my latte came out to around $10 which is a lot! But again, it was absolutely worth the experience. I asked if any of the pastries were vegan and was told no. My nonvegan friend got the pistachio cake despite not liking pistachio because it's a popular item and sadly did not enjoy it. I personally love pistachio so I imagine I would have loved it but if you don't like a specific flavor, you probably won't like it in any form. My big ask would be to please add vegan food options. The removal or swap of honey or dairy seems pretty easy. If they did this and removed the surcharge for plant based milks, I would have no complaints. Definitely check out Delah for a unique experience. They had their San Francisco location, just opened this Oakland location, and are soon opening a Berkeley location. It's great to see how successful they are and I hope to keep their business going by visiting again soon. read more

The pictures of the rose cake, the Turkish delights, and the cozy interior speak for themselves. The service has been warm and friendly. No disrespect to the hardworking staff that worked at Starbucks who were wonderful, but we need more differentiated experiences and less homogeneity in our gathering spaces in Uptown Oakland. The first Yemeni cafe in San Francisco (and now Oakland)! The cafe gets its name from a delah, which is a classic Yemeni coffee pot. The family that runs the cafes is hoping to popularize Yemeni coffee culture, and I am all in for that. I wish we came here in the morning instead of late afternoon, so we could try their recommended drink, the Yemeni Latte or the Rose Latte (which apparently have 2-3 shots of espresso). Not sure if what we got was actually a less caffeinated option, but we ordered the Jubani, which is a combination of light roast coffee, boiled coffee husks, ginger, and cardamom. It tasted like a tea with a slightly bitter finish. Wouldn't be my first choice next time, but I'd love to try to rest of their menu, which is expansive. We also ordered a slice of the pistachio baklava and that was delicious!! Not too sweet, nice and flaky phyllo, and a generous, thick layer of crushed pistachios. If we weren't grabbing dinner right after, I would've gone for another slice or two! Definitely looking forward to the next time we're back to try more drinks, desserts, and support Yemeni coffee :). read more

Tried this new place out after seeing it on social media! The interior is so beautifully decorated yet still holds the same productive and home-y atmosphere of a cafe! I came with my partner and we ordered the Yemeni latte, caramel milk cake, and the matcha latte. The Yemeni latte was so flavorful with strong notes of cardamom and other spices. I really enjoyed it! The caramel milk cake was also very light and not too sweet. I liked how they gave such a generous slice. I wasn't able to try my partner's matcha latte. Delah is a great place to get work done as well! It's not too big of a place but there are plenty of seats accompanied with outlets so bring your electronics! Pretty strong wifi as well. Imagine dropping in for a visit to NorCal, alone in the Amtrak station with nowhere to go. What better option than an early 7am cup of coffee on a Saturday morning? There aren't too many options, but I'm glad I found Delah Coffee. Staff were up and ready to welcome customers, take orders, and serve with smiles. I ordered a cheese pastry and Yemeni Latte (light sweet, hot). There was a good portion of cheese, light in flavor. The pastry? Not crumbly, but smooth enough that it was a soft bread but still crisp that it wasn't a supportless pillow. The coffee? Smooth in texture, bold in flavor, and just dark enough but not bitter. Excellent cafe for early morning meetups to get away from the business of the outdoor streets. Popped in here after a doctor's appointment nearby. We had: - rose latte - this was beautiful! However it was too sweet for my taste. Also the dried rose petals are hard to spit out, but present a texture issue if you decide to eat them. Would not order again. - Turkish delight - a bit dry. I prefer ones from the Turkish bakery. None of the flavors are labeled though so we had to ask, but it was a bit hard to hear the cashier's voice over the music. - Adeni chai - this was really fantastic! Replacing a former popular coffee chain, I was very thrilled when Delah opened in downtown Oakland replacing them. Located on grand ave it is on your way or or from the bay bridge, so no matter the direction you go, you will have Delah on your way to your destination. I have only had tea and food there, but whoever I go with always likes their iced coffee. They offer milk alternatives and non coffee drinks as well for my caffeine free folks. My favorite is the food! I love the zaatar flat bread and the milk cakes the most. The bee bread is delicious but I am not that big of a sesame fan on my sweets, plus my grandma made the same thing growing up minus the sesame, so im pretty bias. All of the milk cakes are delicious so no matter what you pic, its fantastic. What's a milk cake? I like to think of it as tres leches cousin. read more

I'd give Delah 10 stars if possible for its ambience, tasteful decor, and cozy vibes. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was almost full; we snagged the only open table. The beverages we ordered were excellent though I found the food to be just okay. I highly recommended the Adeni chai, it hit all the right notes. The Daleh special Mofawar coffee was pretty good too. The chicken and beef pies were okay but a little overpriced at $7 a piece, even by Bay area standards. Plus, they initially mixed up our food order but promptly fixed it after we let them know. The Rose milkcake definitely looks better thsn it tasted. Nevertheless, I'd come back to this place in a heartbeat just because of the unbeatable ambience. read more

Had a lovely breakfast here last month! Enjoyed my Adeni chai with rose milk cake -- which was delicious! We also tried the stuffed pastries, which were good but overpriced. 2 pastries, 2 drinks, and the milk cake turned out to be $40 breakfast! But I was happy to support a local business with an authentic Yemeni touch. The interior is cute and quite spacious. Service was okay, only two people were working and it felt like they forgot about our order. But they were kind! I live nearby so will probably return, and try the other milk cakes! read more

What a wonderful spot this is. Bustling with people catching up, doing their coursework/projects, just a wonderful creative energy. It's not quiet enough to take calls but felt quiet enough to read or get some writing done. There is good amount of seating available. Their rose lattes, adeni chai, & the milk cakes were all delectable. Have been there more than a couple times and the staff always seems to be having a good time, definitely adds to the ambiance of the place on top of the artsy uniqueness of their interior. It was 6 pm on Saturday. There was no space for 3 to sit as all are occupied by people with laptops. Finally Got a sit on a couch , it was dirty . People are constantly moving by the coffee table, so need to be careful with the coffee. It will spill. The adeni chai was ok . Indian tea is more flavorful. Tea was already prepared before. Tea was served in a coffe cup, it's not appealing at all . Servers mentioned, serving in a tea pot costs 10$ more which is insane. I ordered a chicken wrap, servers warm it and placed on counter.
