The Yerba Buena, SF location has been my wife and I favorite spot for well over 6 years. We'd gladly take the drive from San Ramon for the mussles and chicken parm. However I ordered other items, which inevitably lowered the ratings. - Butternut squash soup: needed more flavor - wasn't salty enough. - Mussels: yikes - didn't taste the freshest, but maybe I just had bad luck by picking out ones that tasted the fishiest. - Brocollini: mmm soggy and flavors were disappointing. Disclaimer: this was right when they opened on a crazy Friday night at City Center (tree lighting). I fully believe the flaws mentioned here are aberrations and won't be an issue when we come back next time. This review only addresses our first visit - despite the imperfect rating, I can safely say we will come back, because the good stuff was soooo good. Highlights: - the pizza! We got the Italian ham and prosciutto pizzas... both remarkably flavorful and baked to perfection. Fresh ingredients. - loved the kale & beet salad as well - the demeanor of the staff (despite being absolutely slammed with a long line of hungry folks right at 5 on an unusually busy night). This can't be stressed enough. They cared. They worked together with a smile on during absolutely nuts circumstances. They were attentive to any concerns that arose and tried their best to make it a great experience. Areas for improvement next time: - part of the order seemed to be lost in the chaos (one of our two pizzas... but it made it eventually and was also amazing) - the wine pour was unusually light. I'm not a heavy drinker but I know it wasn't a full glass. I think it was a byproduct of the rush. We are regulars at Delarosa but after today I'm not sure. It's Sunday evening and my wife and I went to Delarosa like we typically do.. When we got to the restaurant the person that greeted us wasn't very friendly. He didn't engage us at all. Very robotic in his approach. Took us to our table and walked away. A few minutes later, after we placed our order with our waitress, the same guy brought our appetizer. He brought two of them when we had ordered one. As we started to let him know that we had one too many, he just walked away and didn't pay any attention to us. I then started to observe this person and he was fairly friendly to other patrons who weren't our ethnicity. I then let the waitress know that this man was just terrible at customer service and seemed very disinterested and disrespectful. I asked if he was new and if I could speak with the manager. She said he was the manager and apologized on his behalf several times. Our waitress was nice and she shouldn't have to make up for this manager's shortcomings. I have his name but am not about to publish it here. Delarosa needs to seriously consider the kind of managers they have representing their brand. I wanted salad for dinner and hubby wants pasta. All sit down restaurants were full so we chose Delarosa because they had a table available in the next half hour. Off we go, not really expecting much but perhaps some decent food. I had the Beet salad. Our friendly server asked if I want chicken, steak or shrimp with it. Did not know that was a choice. I asked for extra goat cheese and our server, of course. The photos I saw before coming here led me to think that there was gonna be a lot of beets and also kale, which I was not fan but it comes with goat cheese, so I figured it will be okay. At first bite, the kale was screaming Kale. But it did not take long and it just went well with the goat cheese, and everything else. It was so good!! My husband has the pappardelle and was not sure what the sauce was but the server said it was like bolognese. This one was really good as well. Who knew? Thank you for reaching out. I understand the Roman style and know there is a bit of "char" to the pizza due to the oven. But, this particular pizza tasted more burnt and I doubt that is part of the "flavor" of the Roman-style. As my picture shows maybe it is. The business has responded very kindly. I am always in the "mood" for a great slice regardless of style. I understand this is not a New York slice but the Roman style should not taste charred/burnt and blackened to the point to where it is not edible. This is not a complaint but more so a reflection of the fact that maybe, just maybe, the pizza I had was in fact burnt thus affecting the "Roman" pie I was given. There are all types. There is Sicilian, Neapolitan, Chicago, etc. Roman style generally has a crust that is flecked with dark spots, not an entire area or areas of the crust that has a continuous burn the length of the slice's crust. The slice tasted burnt & charred as I pointed out before. This review isn't meant to put a bad mark on the business since businesses nowadays rely heavily on stars and ratings from a collection of patrons. Maybe I should have taken a picture of the entire pie to demonstrate that it wasn't just one slice. I understand the "pride" a restaurant takes in their food and wish more restaurants would do the same. This is just clearly a review of the pie I was given and that it was not what I expected since it did in fact taste burnt and not just from a little char of the crust. I know some reviewers place reviews to knock a business and some place reviews to help a business improve upon a method and if the business feels their method is exact and will not admit that that evening a customer was in fact not happy with their product then there is no room for growth. I do not own a pizzeria and am by no means an expert on pizza but I do know what burnt/char tastes like and when it is more than flecked. read more

Mediocre Food and Terrible Service by Management. We have been customers of Delarosa at City Center for quite a while. It's generally been a dependable go to option for pizza/Italian food while out with the family. However, we ordered the penne with cream sauce with sausage as well as the meatballs as part of our order. The pasta was under (not al dente) but severely under cooked. We also ordered the meatballs for appetizer and the bread accompanying our food was burnt. It was blackened to the point of being inedible. We shared our concerns with the manager, Geffrey Perry and he was quite the braying donkey. He was extremely rude. He said well if you don't like the food, we'll take all of of the charges off as long as you give you me all of the leftovers from your order. (this would have been fine except he charged us for all the kids food which they didnt finish which he confiscated). I asked him after the fact whether he thought that was right approach. To whomever is the owner, this person is in a leadership role and is an absolute terrible brand ambassador for your restaurant. The food is nothing to write home about. When I get a thin crust oven fired pizza I expect it to be crispy, not soggy. I also don't expect for all the toppings to slide off the pizza as I'm pulling a slice off to enjoy it. I also don't expect to be overcharged $4 on my beer after the menu clearly states that it's $12. I also don't like how this restaurant charges an event/banquet fee for a party of 4, when they are neither serving us a banquets or catering g to us. So that's something that needs to be addressed as well, because if that's your way of charging an auto tip then your stuff did nothing to earn it as they were barely around. From the tepid drinking water to the over charged beer and the soggy pizza, do you really think forcing me to pay an additional 21% gratuity is warranted in this situation? read more

I was excited for a pizza from Here but my 3 year old son wanted a grilled cheese so we went next door Mendocino to pick up a kids sandwich and then came to the restaurant for the adults. We were informed that you can't bring outside food. I explained that the adults were gonna order a lot of food and drinks and that's what's in the bag is only a kids sandwich. This is a very popular spot but that's for a reason, good food and good place for bigger groups of people. It has a delicious variety of different kinds of pizzas and pastas. We come here regularly with a group of about 5-10 friends for lunch or dinner and we like how it is family style seating with benches, a nice vibe and we're usually able to get a seat even though it seems busy. It is a bit loud sometimes. Plenty of things to do nearby so I'd say its good for groups. read more

The shrimp pasta dish was poor. Pizza was good, no complaints there. The smallest glass of wine you have ever seen, $14.00. Happy Friday! Went to San Ramon to visit my brother and lunch there together. We suppose wanna to sit inside as the weather was pretty cold , however my brother forgot to bring the phone where he saved the vaccination record there so he couldn't prove for vaccination , so we had to sit outside. Luckily they offer the seat right under the heater , lol good enough . We felt like to have a light lunch but somehow we still ordered a lot , :( Had mussels with a fresh lemonade as starter . The mussels was kind of average as some of the mussels seems like smelly (I were surprised ) , but the lemonade was good and fresh. My brother ordered a soup and he told me the taste was pretty good. We had mushroom portobello and spicy marinara pizza , the portobello was well made and creamy , fresh mushroom . The pizza was not a thick crust type ( which is good yey) but the pizza size was small . If you wanna to have a light lunch , this restaurant should be a good choice :) read more

I've been coming to this place since last year and it doesn't disappoint. They follow all COVID protocols. Their Minestrone Soup is the best I've ever had. The last time I was there with my friends, the majority of whom are vegetarians. They have a good selection of vegetarian dishes and a good collection of wines that go well with the food. read more

Single hostess on the phone taking a long order, people backing up.. 2 managers talking glance at the door, but don't make a move, they look but don't see (bad news for managers) actually talk for 10 minutes ignoring the line building ..ten minutes later asked a server for help, she said there is a hostess. We said, looks like she has her hands full, maybe a manager standing over there can help. Server said, that manager is training a new manager. Hmm, so neither are doing anything to help with service? On March 8 I had lunch here with a friend and we ordered frutti de mare and another dish. To our surprise we saw a hair ball in one of our dish! We alerted the server and she changed the dish. I am disappointed that it was taken care of in such a casual / non apologetic manner. No apology from the manager, no offer to compensate our meal, just business as usual. I wish I took a photograph of the hair ball that came with our seafood. Of course we tipped well and didn't reflect this in our tip but now I think of it I shouldn't have tipped at all due to this poor experience. I will never eat here again as I have serious doubts on the hygiene of this place. I want to give this place a 5 star because my family loved the food; but I had a not so great experience. We had reservations for 7 for our youngest sons birthday and because of COVID, they can't seat 7 on 1 table so they had to split us into 2 tables. The problem started when our party was late around 15 minutes. I asked to be seated twice and I was met with an answer that we need to have everyone with us. So we waited. The rest of our party arrived. We were seated like 15 feet away from each other. 4 on one table 3 on the other. There was a table next to the table where my birthday celebrant sat, like 3 feet away with a couple already seated before us. I noticed later they had two other people arriving About 30 mins late that sat with them. I also noticed 4 place settings, meaning it was not a surprise visit from two friends that happened to stop by. My question, if we had to wait for everyone to arrive before we were seated, why was the other table allowed to be seated when all their party has NOT arrived yet? I felt this was a little biased, not sure if it had something to do with my race. The person behind the counter, I believe he was the manager was not nice to me. Totally rude and dismissive. I was cool, a bit annoyed by the treatment but my family was there and we had a nice time. The food was good, we spent about $250 plus a 20% tip. The waitress was extra nice and up-sold some of her items. The only thing was my pizza was soggy in the middle preventing me from thoroughly enjoying everything. I would give them 5 star but the bias treatment and the soggy pizza is only worth 3 stars in my eyes. Sad. read more

I dined with my family this evening, we ate in restaurant and I ordered the bistecca (hanger steak $24.00)to take home to my 19 yr old son. Upon opening the box, I saw a very small amount of steak, some potatoes (larger amount than the steak) and some arugula salad. I looked under the salad to see if there was more steak, but no. So I measured it, only 3.2 oz of meat, not even a full dinner portion, the waitress said it would be 7-9oz of steak. What a rip off! I won't go there again. read more

I don't see what the big deal is here. Came here once and wasn't impressed but friends live by here so thought I'd try it again. Started with calamari fritti which was a little too rubbery and didn't seem cooked well. Also ordered the burrata bruschetta but the honey was an odd, unexpected flavor and there were three very small pieces so not work the money. My main dish was the gold and red beets salad. It was pretty flavorless and could definitely have used a more inspired dressing. Meatballs were rubbery and not browned? and the sauce is not like usual, and the beet salad with arugula and ricotta salata is one of their best menu items and they don't have it in San Ramon!! Music is WAY too loud, it works for SF but not San Ramon, we were there on a Thursday night and the crowd is mostly 50+ and lots of kids. Totally different clientele.
