When I walked in, Chef Charlie's service was attentive and kind. I wanted only a sandwich but Charlie sold me on the BBQ. It smelled so good! I ordered a sandwich with Dutch Crust bread - this style of bread was the best I've had! My goodness the crust of it - mixed with a slight sweetness was Muah to my tastebuds! Then I'm driving to get on the Bay Bridge heading to the East Bay and the BBQ chicken was smelling sooooo good - I opened my to go container and went for my first bite. I smiled and couldn't believe what was taking place!! My Dad, may he Rest In Peace was from Kansas City Mo! Home of the best BBQ! I enjoy the sandwiches here. The killas que is currently my fave! Just had it the horseradish pairs well with the bbq sweet sauce . Love how it clears my nasals and is the right type of sauce. Deli man is super amiable and helps get my sandwich need filled. There's is a couple seats inside around a table which I used to dine in. Lots of chip variety and also Gatorade to rehydrate. I live around the corner from this place, and I decided to finally give it a shot: whomp. Paid ~ $15 + tip for a pastrami sandwich that was the size of store bought sandwich bread. When I called in the order, the guy on the other end said they only had wheat, and they literally had sliced wheat bread. I assumed it would be at least a wheat roll, which is something he should have elaborated on as a sandwich maker imo. I would say the sandwich was worth $8, at most. There was nothing remarkable about it. Pastrami was fresh, sauerkraut was alright, Swiss cheese was undetectable. Making a PB&J at home would have been better, seriously. Service wise... it was kinda grimy. The guy at the register put his cigarette butt into an empty bottle while I paid. Like, right in front of me. Ew. Both of them barely greeted me when I entered, and it just felt like the hustle was completely gone from this business. They looked inconvenienced to have a customer lol Roxie's is also very close, but I rather drive to Sub Center in West Portal if I want a sandwich that is delicious and worth paying $14+. We were able to try a variety of their sandwiches, and what sets them apart from the "fast food" sandwich franchises is the quality of the ingredients that they use. All of their meats, including their turkey and roast beef and pastrami, are all tremendously delicious and not overly salty. Their breads have the perfect bite, and their produce are really fresh. Surprised in a bad way. After being isolated due to Covid, it's been very difficult to concoct an appetite. I've been a huge fan of Ike's sandwiches with their generous portions and after reading absolutely rave reviews about this place on yelp, I decided to order via doordash. I ordered a "create your own" sandwich. I tried to replicate it to my order as close to my Ike's sandwich as I could from memory. My expectations weren't very high but unfortunately the sandwich I ordered can be equal to the climate of our economy, it felt like a shortage of everything in my sandwich (except for the bread which wasn't that good :( ) The ($16) sandwich i got was almost entirely bread! A generous and nice estimate would be me saying it had a distribution of 66% bread to 33% filling. And with that being said, I could barely taste anything but the bread which unfortunately wasn't even that appetizing. If you're hungry and have a go-to sandwich spot, I'd say it may be a safer bet going with your go-to. This place unfortunately didn't deliver this time, but maybe a different time. read more

Located on Ocean Ave. nearby Balboa High School and James Denman Middle school. I wish we had this back in the day when I use to go to school there. I ordered build your own on Dutch with everroast chicken, Swiss, lettuce, onions,mayo and mustard. I did not order them toasted since we weren't going to eat them right away and was afraid the bread will get soggy. Both sandwiches were delicious! The dutch crunch did not have the crunch but it was super soft and still soft the next day (was not able to finish the whole thing). The veggies were fresh and I loved that the chicken was deli sliced instead of thick cuts. Simple sandwich but packed alot of flavor. I ordered for delivery through grubhub, so I can't attest to any safety measures. Overall, the food was alright, nothing offensively bad but nothing great either. I got the breakfast sandwich with veggies, eggs, and cheese on a croissant. The croissant was fine, maybe a tiny bit dry; the eggs were a little gray but tasted fine; not a lot of veggies but there was a lot of flavor from the sauces (it's definitely on the spicy side). I also got some glazed donuts. These were alright as well but definitely not my favorite. I ordered the Charlie's Hustle, and it was perfectly toasted and the protein and veggie ingredients were balanced. The Dutch Crunch was better than I am used to at other shops - it actually had a crunch to it - and internally a nice doughy chew. The sauces here seem like they are homemade. You could easily walk by or dismiss this place, with uninspiring interior and inventory boxes everywhere. But the sandwich is pretty darn good! I will go back. read more

Roxie is legendary but expensive. Deli Man is new but cheaper. However Deli Man has milkshakes while Roxie doesn't and the sandwiches aren't as greasy. But enough about comparing two different places. Deli Man has nice people that work there that treat you like family or friends which of course shows the employees are treated well. The sandwiches of course are also great and I love that I can get a milkshake with my sandwich. So I call deli man and they admit it's because they forgot to take that off the app as sold out.
