I love dive bars and this had the right atmosphere. We decided to pop in on St Patties and the crowd was decent except for the table behind us that had a girl who was screaming at the top of her lungs. Tad annoying but I'm sure she had one too many. They left shortly so there was definitely a relief. Drinks are strong and fun. :) People were friendly but well, most people are when they're intoxicated. A guy that was sitting next to us offered to play some 2 player iPhone game with him. Icebreaker I guess. It wasn't cheesy so it didn't bother me too much. We were just out to have fun and socialize. This is one of my favorite dives. perhaps because it was the first bar I ever went to, ohhhh 3 years ago or so? $2 tecate, $2.50 PBR (on tap) yes yes.. classy with a capital K! their jukebox rules for having murder city devils on it, I heart wet panties is a great time. Their DJs are way legit. The bathrooms... not so much, 1 stall is no fun. It can get pretty sweaty in the back when it starts packing in with folks after 11, you used to be able to smoke in the back but then they got mashed in the butt for it and had to put up signs and scold people. Dunno if theyre still being nazi's about it, though the review below me claims otherwise. Whenever I read "unpretentious" applied to a bar in the Mission, I have shudders. I mean, thank god there's an unpretentious bar to counter all those pretentious mission digs - right?! I liked that Delirium had a back room for dancing - to bad the DJ couldn't figure out what a good "dance" song was. He also couldn't figure out how to mix songs which made him more of a glorified MP3 player than a DJ. Cmon, it's midnight on a Saturday and I can karaoke better than this crap. I just couldn't get a hold of the vibe here. Was it a dive bar with energy? A dance bar with no cover and cheap drinks? A hangout place with 80's pop metal? A place where I needed to be bombed out of my mind to enjoy? Maybe that's the problem - Maybe Delirium didn't click with me because it's not fun unless you're 6 car-bombs deep into a round of Hornitos shots. What I first liked about this place is that my friends and I were greeted by the most chill bouncer I have ever encountered at a bar. He even told us how to get free drinks from the bartender in Delirium, as well as at other bars. This is a really good bar to go to in the Mission if you are out with friends, and they all take a liking to dancing. It doesn't matter to what type of music, as long as they are drunk enough and want to dance. The room where the dancing takes place is the best, because it is A LOT less crowded than in the actual bar, and there is also seating for everyone. The bar does have some TVs, but they were playing movies off of TBS, which I thought was an interesting choice... ? The only thing to look out for is that the bathrooms are not that well labeled, so be sure to double-check before you enter. Overall, it was an okay bar. It didn't completely blow me away with awesomeness, but it wasn't a terrible place for a weekend night either. read more

This is one of my favorite dive bars in the mission. I mostly like that they have a dance floor in the back room and cheap drinks. However, this place gets super crowded on the weekends so it becomes difficult to to walk around or get to the bar. I recommend getting as many drinks from the bar as possible at one time to avoid being pushed around at the bar. The decor is very dive-y, with graffiti all over the walls. The bathrooms have no mirrors and are basically covered in writing. Overall, I would say that this is a good bar for those looking specifically for a dive bar. read more

Went here twice yesterday - once for a pirate treasure hunt, the other to finish off the night dancing. All in all I dug this place. I didn't spend much time in the bar section, but definitely hung out on the dancefloor. I liked the vibe of the people there and loved that there was room to dance even though the room felt full. I don't drink, but I still like to visit bars for social reasons. Anyways, if you don't drink and you're not eating in a bar, you'll quickly notice that if you order soda only, its more than the price of a two-liter in a pint glass. For me, the queen of "That cost HOW much?", this is one of the primary factors as to why I like Delirium: Go in any night aside from Friday, Saturday or possibly Sunday, and you can usually pay $1.50 and get all the soda you want. (Or at least the two or three times that I've been there on a weeknight this happens.) Plus, the smoking room in the back is a absolutely brilliant idea. One of my favorite spots in the mission. Period. I like this bar because it's in the center of it all. Amazing mexican food, the tamale lady, and if i feel like going to a different bar for awhile before coming back there's at least 8 good bars i can head to in the area. They play great music, have a dance floor and it's cheap! 2 dollar tecates all night every night. They have everything you could possibly want - You can smoke in the back and it's got pinball, a pool table and other arcade games. The only gripe i have about this place is it gets crowded and I mean crowded, which can seriously harm you getting a drink and fast. Confession: I don't think I've ever ordered a drink here. Or occupied the non-dance area for more than, like 15 minutes. But, then again, I don't come to Delirium for the ambiance or the drinks. I'm sure both of those things are fine, but they pale in comparison to the DANCE PARTY ACTION in the back of the establishment. When it's on (usually between 12-2), it's totally on here. The back room is like a sauna, which sucks, but it's a sauna filled with awesome. The DJs here always seem to spin exactly the tunes I want to hear, from 90s rap to 70s rock to 80s pop to Top 40. It's an eclectic mix of music that you can actually dance to, as opposed to a barrage of the same 5 hip-hop songs. And every person in that back room--mostly hipsters, yes, but incredibly nice ones--is having just as good a time as you are. read more

Maybe becuase I've only been on Saturdays, I heard weekdays are much better. $2 Tecates kinda suck because everybody knows Tecates DON"T GET ANYONE DRUNK, unless you drink a shitload of them. One of my first trips to SF I wandered out of the rain and into this place with a group of friends. We were just about the only people in there and had a great time thanks in large part to the drink selection, jukebox (Built to Spill on the box is a game changer!) and free pool. I can understand the afformentioned hipster warnings based on the ambiance of the place but saw no sign of such patrons while I was there. It's also incredibly cool that at 10pm the jukebox went off and the people in charge spun obscure Dead and Santana cuts and other psychedelic 60s SF music. I LOOOOOOVE this place during the day (3pm to 8pm ). 5 stars for the friendly bartenders, strong pours, and the free bbq. Yum! I HATE this place during the night. (8pm-2am). 3 stars for the drinks but minus two stars for the b$%tchy female bartender who gives everybody attitude. If you walk in and see her, go to another bar, you can get a better drink/atmosphere somewhere else. Update 01/13/2011: The female bartender is no longer a beeyotch. Every time I come to this bar with my friends, I have a blast!!! As my job is hectic and stressful, I need my ME TIME!!! Friday or Saturday nights, I like to round up my friends and hit the bar!!! I love coming here with my twin Jo!!! She knows how to bring my night from dull to maxxximizing my night! The drinks there are cheap, but the music and the vibe combined are what I need to unwind and have a blast! They have a wide variety of music. 80s 90s and today's hit songs. All the employees are upbeat and are very fast in making your drink. Everytime I go there, I have to have my Tokyo tea! Its hard to find a place to sit or even set your stuff down to dance. It gets pretty crowded by ten. My suggestion arrive by nine thirty so you have a chance to get a seat or a place to put you stuff in. Everyone, whether its the bartender or even people who frequently attend this bar, is so friendly that create a energetic vibe that fills up the room, that makes you want to shake, shake, shake,.....shake your booty, LOL!!!! Man oh man, where do I start with this dump? I really wish I never experienced entering this place. From the first step up to the door, I was asked for my ID by a already drunk bouncer who was being made fun of by other bar goes for being so drunk on the job already. He let us in the bar then asked for our ID's again about 10 minutes later because he forgot that he already asked for ID. It smelled horrible inside. Like mold and sweaty butt. I imagine it's a very rare a occasion that the floors are mopped here. We ignored the red flags and bought some drinks. The bartenders were very weird and not friendly at all. One of these dudes looked like Elon Musk and was just as much of a dick as Elon is. The other guy looked like Jonah Hills inbred cousin and he was an absolute moron. He tried to start a fight with my girlfriend and made a huge scene trying to claim that we didn't pay for our drinks... how does that make sense if he gave us our drinks? He made a huge scene about it outside which led to embarrassment and anger for the false accusations. They run an absolute mess here and I wouldn't be surprised if the bartenders were drugging people bc I've heard many cases of such things going on here. I always start my Mission nights here. The drinks are dirt cheap. ($4 tap beer and mixed drinks!) This place is on the smaller side so as the night progresses and more poeple show up, the less room there is to breathe. There is one pool table that is inconveniently placed by the door to get to the smoking room (only during the week days). The smoking room is also a dance room on the weekends! THe best night at this place is on Tuesdays where they have " Black Tuesdays "... They play a really good selection of late 70s/80s alt. rock / goth rock / electro... anything that wasn't popular... and dark music ofcourse. The crowd always gets into it later. I really can't find a place to hear this stuff unless I go to Black Cat and they only play a few songs... Miz Margo and Lance make the dancefloor Spellbound!! ( that's right like the Siouxsee & The Banchees Song ) Anyone looking for something exciting and different to do on a tuesday night should go to this place.. Did I mention the drinks are cheap!! Sometimes these bars with dance floors can out hipster themselves on music selection, but this DJ was spot on. Super reasonable drinks. Let me be clear about one thing: I like surly bartenders. Seriously. You know the ones I'm talking about--gruff and mean on the outside, but totally made of gold on the inside (gold that was paid for by your tip money, suckas). But, damn it the drinks were strong and if you minded your own business and didn't act too much like a drunken fool, you could develop a mutual, surly peace with the person behind the bar. The other night, Jay H and I happened to have the strange (mis)fortune of wandering into Delirium with a pack of corporate types dressed like Santa Claus (I however, was dressed like Santa Claus' hot, dirty mistress)... anyway, the story goes, the Santas were drinking and talking stocks and bonds or whatever they talk about, I was taking a shot of whiskey at the bar, and another lady Santa lost her wallet. Now, I'm sure that in a "dive" like Delirium, this was just too G-D much. And, I'm sure the bartender was thinking the whole time "Get the eff out of here you stupid *#@$%!-ers and I don't want to serve your G-D @#%#$^ers a single G-D drink. Go back to the Marina!" (if he had said that out loud, I would have been like, "Ha! Shows how much you know! I'm totally Bridge and Tunnel, jerk!"). But, is it really necessary to throw coasters and other flotsam from the bar at your paying (albeit, annoying) customers? I felt like I had gotten trapped in bad out-take of a primate documentary--the dancing monkey suddenly unleashes his mounting irritation by picking up and throwing everything in sight at the apparent offenders. Cuz it drives me crazy and i must exit. 2) reflecting a toxic state- I'm usually hammered and thats why i get dragged into here, and probably motivation for me to leave early. 3) marked by illusions, hallucinations, delusions- the smoke filled rooms filled with pretentious hipsters and cokeheads always make me question my reality. 4) excitement, restlessness, impaired memory, and incoherence- all very true too, especially because Delirium is usually just one stop of many in Mission pub crawling. So many mediocre bars in the same area make me jump from one to another, drinking, stumbling and the occasion puking outside of kilowatt....but thats another story all together. What do you do when the love of your life leaves you broken hearted and all alone in the big, scary world? Well, I get drunk and make an ass of myself. And let me tell you, Delirium is one fine spot for those kinds of assinine antics. Seriously, I rolled into this place four cocktails deep and proceded to the bar, where I was served up the STRONGEST vodka-sodas (yes...plural...oy...) this side of Russia. I then proceded to the back where it was an all-out freakshow dance party and gave that dancefloor all I had to give. It was a worthy performance and I got the cute boy to prove it. What I really love at Delirium is the people- these are some hardcore drunks. No one cares what you're wearing. No one can even see straight enough to pass judgement. These are the kids who, had they been born 10 years later, easily would have been diagnosed with ADHD and heavily medicated. That's what I call good times. I'll be returning again soon (who am I kidding? I'll be there tonight) for more drinking, dancing, and forgeting... PS- Did I mention that the folks running the place (bartender, door guy, random people on staff) are the NICEST ruffians in the entire Mission district? I like this place a lot.. If you are a hipster this is your bar. A lot of really friendly young adults here. The back rooms ceiling on friday night is dripping swet its so packed and hot. The music is very diverse, indy oldschool top hits to random classics.. $2 tecates/ pbr $2.50. This was a significantly less sexy experience than it sounds as said good looking boy was merely trying to push past in order to get to the bar where the crowd waiting for drinks was at least 4 people thick. This bar can be great - if you go before 7 p.m. After that, the door people let WAY too many people in and it ends up being wall to wall people. On the plus side, I can never get too wasted here because I can't physically get to the bar to order drinks. The first bar I ever went to when I turned 21 was a dive bar in San Diego... and it was nothing like this. Well, I'm being a bit dramatic. Delirium looks and smells like a dive bar, but it doesn't feel like a dive bar. Delirium this past Saturday night was filled with 20-30 something year old "hipsters" rolling their eyes at me for wearing 5 inch heels and a short tight skirt. In contrast, my first dive bar in San Diego was filled with ex vets, old dudes, beach bums... that didn't give a fuck about what I did or how I dressed. You don't get that "IDGAF" attitude at Delirium. You'll get that "I'm trying really hard to look like I'm indifferent and that I didn't try really hard." That being said, I really don't care about what other people think. I just wanted to go on a little rant about hipsters. Delirium was dirty, grimey, cheap... and the back room was great. Whoever was controlling the music was playing Prince, The Darkness, Nelly, Rihanna... you name it!
